What's great about intense machines is that you do get a very good workout in a short period of time! I burn 100 calories in 10 minutes on the rowing machine....but I'd have to walk 35 minutes to burn the same amount! I'm all about getting out of the gym ASAP!! And I am only able to do about 10 mins on the rower before I poop out, too! But I started out doing 4 minutes 3 weeks ago...so I'm already making progress. You'd hate the treadmill eventually, too! You made a very good choice. Just be patient with yourself.

Jacqui, thanks so much ... i will definitely take your advice! the fastest i've ever ran is 5.2 MPH and that was for about 5-10 seconds . i normally go about 5.0. do you think that's still too much? i truly value your input. i guess i just dont really feel like i am 'running' if i dont go above 4.7ish. i am about 5'9" and have longish legs. thanks, C

Hi! Got banded on May 22. I lost 10 lbs the first week while on liquids. The next week I started on some soft food and started gaining back some weight. Is this normal? I am a little disappointed.

It feels strange, it doesnt feel like running. But being a distance runner is ALL about pacing yourself. If you can slow it down you will be able to run MUCH further. But the simple action of jogging over walking seems to make you much stronger. I'm 5ft 10 and I"m sure I looked VERY strange at first, but the speed comes later. The main thing now is to keep going. So slow down and then slow down some more.

So people talk about rest days and all that. But this video is for 30 days in a row. Is it ok to do it? People exercise everyday right? I hear you are supposed to switch up routines so you can give certain muscles a rest but this is set up so you do the same video 10 days in a row. Is this ok?

9/11 One Week Post
Uniqueladybug replied to Shelly's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wanted so bad to have a sip of anything after I ate just to clear my palate! This does stink. It's an hour of time gone! I've noticed my pouch can't handle anything but liquid after about 7pm. It took me a few days to figure it out. I would get nauseous and feel horrible! As we figure the little things out it does seem to get better... One day at a time is all we can do! How long did it take?
ElfiePoo replied to sandralee's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My seminar and first doc visit was on 9/29. My preadmission workup and nutrition counseling was on 10/15. I had my psych eval somewhere in between the two. My surgery was 11/3. I'm told this is unusually fast though. . -
You will have a hard time on a liquid diet pre op. It is hard post op. If it were easy non if is would have needed surgery. Cut calories by 500 a day, up your water and exercise. Keep your carbs at or below 40 if you can. 10 lbs in 2 weeks is a lot.

Advice please band to sleeve
meandtheboys replied to socialbutterfli's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Wow - our stories are so similar! I was banded for the second time in dec 2010 after a removal for slippage. Lost about 70 pounds, had an unfill due to nausea that just got worse and the 'zone' was never to be found again. The only thing I found was about 40 pounds of the weight I lost. Mead the band out on Oct 29, 2014. Gained about 30 more pounds and was approved for the sleeve. Had it done on April 10 and have lost about 20'pounds so far. I'm getting used to this new way of living - feels very different from the post band surgery from what I can remember. Had my first over eating episode with nausea yesterday. Learned my lesson! Have had slight mourning for old habits - Friday night pizza and drinks on the deck .... But then i step on the scale and realize how good I feel, dinner hour passes and the food is forgotten, the excitement about losing continues!!! No regrets, just hopeful feelings - something I haven't had in a while! Good luck with your journey. Rely on your family and friends, do your own research, and be honest with yourself about whether you are willing to make the serious changes necessary to be successful. The surgery is just a small part, you have to be ready to take control! -
My daughter lost about 100 lb in a year, without much in the way of exercise. I have had less to lose, but have lost 68 in 10 months (counting my pre op diet time) and ride my bike 5-10 miles a day for exercise. It is definitely doable.

Sandy, you certainly are an inspiration! I just read your blog post, Use It Lose It, and I found it amazing. Right now, I am not doing any exercize, although I need to be. I have membership at the Y, but I have only gone once in the 2 years that I have had it. I too don't even do my own grocery shopping, I send my daughter to do it for me. I have a pool and don't use it because I panic when I get into water over my head (I am a real shorty), I just can't swim anymore with this weight. When I walk, I cramp up and lose my breath and need to sit down. I am really frustrated because I am not able to get up and make myself do anything! I have 10 months to go before I can get banded, and I just don't know to get started. Maybe if I follow the way you did it, I can do it. I am really frustrated with myself....

How long did it take?
Patterba replied to sandralee's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I too went through the process fairly quick. I have BCBS PPO. Went to the seminar in September, submitted info to insurance and had my pick of dates in October (selected 10/29 because of committments). -

I went to my seminar on 7/1, first Dr appt on 7/21, three months of supervised diet, and was approved through my insurance on 10/1. Had my surgery on 10/19. Every surgeons office is different, and I hope your processing goes well! Best wishes! -
Sandi, thanks for your inspiration! Lots of perspiration, too- what do they say, "10% inspiration, 90% perspiration"? I'm up to walking two miles a day, which is enough for now. Next will be joining a gym.

What did you tell your teen children?
Acts238girl replied to Deb100's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I have a huge age range of 8 kids: 22, 19, 18, 14, 8, 6, 4 and 1! I felt the same way you do, and totally understand. For some reason I didn't want to tell my daughter (14) because at that age I didn't want her questioning her body or self image. I told my 22 year-old the day before. He is stationed in CA in the Marines and I figured ...if something happened. He was pleased with my decision and I got the thumbs up! The other two older boys I told the truth too: my blood pressure has been high for years, high cholesterol, and now diabetic, all genetic. They KNOW I am always going, and busy - seen me going to the gym, walking 10K steps in JUST my daily routine, so they know it's not from lack of trying. They also said it was a good choice, but "surgery" made them nervous. It made ME nervous! Lol! Initially I told my 14 year old daughter that I was having a hernia repair. I told the little kids that I was just having surgery on my stomach to fix something. After I had surgery, I did tell my fourteen-year-old the truth. I figured she was smart enough to put two and two together and I didn't want her to be hurt that I lied. I explained it just like I did to the older kids and she seemed fine with it. I also told her my reasoning for not telling her right away. The good part about the kids knowing, is it a chip in and help a lot more. I couldn't pick up the one-year-old for two weeks and they were all fabulous to help. In the long run, I think the truth is better because your kids have seen you try to lose weight. They've seen you check out Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig, paleo diets, Etc. Yes, this is an extreme measure but you want to be around for years to come, and they want you too! Just ate a lot - scared
Introversion replied to KaiserKid's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No, you haven't lost restriction. Unless your stomach has stretched to the preoperative 40+ ounce capacity and you can easily accommodate 10 bacon/egg sandwiches at one sitting, your restriction is still there. People seem to be under the impression that the immediate post-op phase in which their tight, swollen sleeves allow them to become full off 3 to 5 bites of food lasts forever. Nope...the stomach continually relaxes and accommodates more food over the years. Per bariatric surgeon Dr. Matthew Weiner's videos, this is a normal phenomenon. By 3 to 5 years out you can expect to accommodate three-fourths to 1 entire plate of food (8 to 12 ounces). But just because you can eat this much doesn't mean you should. Good luck to you. -
Struggling to find things to eat at 10 weeks out from RNY. Chicken and beef make me so sick I just have horrible pain and throw up over and over. I am eating greek yogart, snow crab legs and some soups .. green pea and barley. I eat salad with diet dressing and peeled green apples. I snack on chick peas, soy beans and small pretzel sticks. If I try to drink protein drinks it makes me sick and I struggle drinking anything but herbal tea. Anyone know if it will change in the future? Are you able to ever drink and not sip water? Are you ever able to eat normal meat again? Wondering if it gets better .... is it that i don't chewy enough ?

What did you tell your teen children?
Sosewsue61 replied to Deb100's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
You have to let go of the shame, you can't move forward unless you are kind to yourself. My two grandgirls age 8 and 10 live here, they don't know what kind of surgery I had but they understand Grandma is on a specific plan and getting healthy. My adult kids know and where very on board with it and cheer me on. I did not tell a lot of other people, only a select few. -
If it involves belching or farting, it is not from the gas pumped into your abdomen. What AdaGrey describes is gas pain from the gas pumped into the abdomen. It's ENTIRELY DIFFERENT. Walking (heck, moving around period) is the best thing for that kind of gss. A couple of possibilities. Are you drinking a milk-based Protein shake? You could be a bit lactose intolerant and are taking in more dairy that you used to. You can buy a shake powder and mix with soy milk or lactaid milk. It could be the liquid diet. My my post-op liquid diet was only 10 days so I didn't really have much adverse reaction other than runny stools (liquid in, liquid out). Basically, move around, use Gax-X regularly and it should get better. However, I will say that I belch (no lady-like little burps for me) now, usually when I am hungry, LOL.

Weight lose after 2 weeks post op
Ginger Snaps replied to mrs.papa923's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I think it varies so much how quickly/slowly/erratically people lose. People with more to lose may lose faster in the beginning but I also have a friend who just had surgery that is much heavier than I am and I lost faster than her in the first two weeks. I'm a relative lightweight but my loss after those first two weeks has averaged about 2 pounds a week. Slower than I'd like but it's going the right way and I can manage my eating, something I've never been able to do before. Don't set yourself up for disappointment by comparing yourselves to others. If you're very concerned that the weight loss is too slow (10 pounds in 2 weeks is not slow) talk to your doctor. My doctor probably thought I was disappointed in my weight loss because when I went in for my 1 month appointment he said 'if you had come in here at 300-400 pounds, I would have expected a 50 pound weight loss... 22 pounds is more than 10% of your total body weight -- that is GREAT!" Try to avoid comparing yourself to others and know that the scale will keep moving if you keep to the plan -- food and exercise.
