    Weight Gain

Hey everyone I have had my band for around 5 years noq my starting weight was 128 Kgs and got down to 78 kgs !! Im 30 years old female and from australia, My husband and I started trying for a baby we fell preganant so I went adn got 2.5mls taken out of my band I had 3.5mls in the start with in 6 weeks I put on 12 KGS !!!!! we lost our baby due to a misscarriage this was a hard time for me as it was my secoud in about 2 years, We are ok though I have awesome support from my husband which is great! My issue is that after 5 years and sitting on around 78-82 kgs I really thought in my mind I had it under control my eating.... as soon as I knew I could eat I did!! I was out of control I went to see my doctor today he put 2mls in so I now have 3 mls I need to get myself back into it and lose the 12kgs I pt on !! It actually freaks me out to think that this band is so important to me as I need it more than I thought I did ! Why do I always think of food? has anyone else felt this way ? A x

    Making bad decisions

Thanks for starting this thread. I have made more bad decisions than good for the last 2 weeks so as soon as I get home I plan to regroup. The one thing I have done is to have 2 shakes a day - and do I have great nails.. No more drinking with meals, no more eating after I am full, no more skipping my walk after meals, no more drinking wine... I am so scared to weigh in when I get home. I know that I haven't lost anything - even inches - but I sure hope I haven't gained. But I have had an awesome experience understanding life post-conflict, seeing the destruction of war, the anger and hopelessness of the people, etc. Oh yeah, and I am bored today also. They came and got my passport, bags, tickets, etc. The embassy handles that for us here since there have been alot of airport visa problems and baggage issues. I can't really help work on project for the next 3 hours so I'm just wanting to eat my leftover food. And I can't leave the apartment because I had to turn in my embassy ID to get back my passport so when I leave the apartment I can't return. Thank the Lord for the internet.

    Work

I went back to work at six days post op. I traveled from Mexico to Alaska on days three and four. I would have loved some more time off, but I've managed. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  4. This is embarrassing but I hope it will help someone. When weighting my weight would fluctuate up and down during the same weight in get off the scale and get back on and it would be different was driving me crazy, lat week I used the as seen on TV spin pedi and took dead skin off my feet since the consistant weights! Help with the emotional what's going on??? Hope this helps someone else as well!!!
  5. Hi, I had a lot of heartburn yesterday, I am okay today. I drunk my Protein this morning. Will drink another 23 grams today. I want to lose weight, that is why i had the surgery, but my weight is coming off fast. I had the lap band before, and revised to the sleeve. My goodness, I am 5'9", and I weighed 220 before surgery, lost 10 pre-op (230), I am nearing 200 pounds. I have not been heavy all my life, I know how I will look at 160, and 170m, I had the surgery done to maintain my weight. I have HBP, High Cholestorol, and a knee injury that hurts if I gain over 200lbs. Sure, befoere I could gain 80 and lose 80, and gain most of it back in no time, once the knee goes out from running on it. My goal is 170, I look great at that weight and not mal-nutrition, 160 is pushing it, I look frail. I am in a size 10 at 170, and that is great for me. I am figuring that once i reach goal. I will up my calories. My question is will my capacity increase at 6months, so I can increase my caloric intake? I am a gym rat, always have been, just mainting weight was an issue. 165 would be my max loss.

    Payments to hospital??

Went for pre surgery testing on November 6th and surgery is scheduled for November 21st and no one from hospital has yet to reach out to me to say what I will need to pay before surgery. I have 2 different insurances one deductible is 2,900 and one is $750. At the pre surgery testing they did have me sit down with registeration but she just verified my insurance and employment. I am just about a week out and nervous about a surprise from the hospital after reading other people’s post. Should I reach out to the hospital? I wouldn’t even know where to start.

4 weeks post op today... :(

Well unfortunately I'm writing today's blog with such an attitude. At 4 weeks out, I still can't even keep liquids down comfortably. I hate it! I was so stressed out and tired last night that I just got on my knees and prayed. I'm tired of crying, tired of the thirst (not hunger, but thirst!)... I'm sure when I get to my post op appointment I will be put on an IV for dehydration because I've taken in less than 20oz each day over the last week. I feel so unhealthy and can't even complain because I elected this. I'm sure this is PMS or one of those emotional stages we all go through.. But I definitely don't like it! On the other hand, I'm down 30 pounds. Here are my stats: HW: 256 SW: 247 Day I left surgery: 258 CW: 226 Not too bad considering all of my clothes are sagging but my body feels really jiggly so I know I have to get in the gym and do sme weight lifting but I vowed to not do anything until I can keep down a set number of calories... Keep me in your prayers for I know better days are just ahead!!!

Bumps in the Road to Happiness...

hi jillian, i'm sorry to hear what a bad time youve had personally, but there is light at the end of the tunnel, you are going for this amazing surgery and it will give you much more self confidence. I am only 3 weeks out, but already feeling more attractive and better about myself. I am also a woman who has delt with infidelity and I know how bad that is on your self esteem. But remember they become x's for a reason!! I am now happily married and have been for 5 years (he was also cheated on) life gets better and with the new you around the corner there will be no stopping you healing that heart!! best of luck rachel.

day one at home after surgery

I have been doing very well. I love my doctor for sending me home with liquid pain meds and a pain pump. I feel that I have been eating all day! I have had around 20ozs of water, 2 sf popsicles, 1 fudgesicle, broth, and some jello. I ate a the popsicles and the fudgesicle. A little bit of the broth and jello. I have not gotten sick and hope I don't! I also have not felt full yet either! Will give an update later in the week. Carla

    Borderline - 38%

Just one word of caution. (I am a Brit and know nothing of US financial issues!) Banding is the cheapest surgery initially but has long term, on-going costs. You can probably find a package which includes a certain number if fills but you need to allow for further expense. I paid for my own surgery and now that it is done, our national health service picks up any costs. I am NOT trying to frighten you out if being banded! I love my band! Just making sure you're aware of possible later costs. But you may need: Fills beyond the number in your package. Defills if the band tightens over the years because of scar tissue. XRays if you have problems. Leaks in the tubing or port -these require operations under general anaesthetic. Slips, can require operation to reposition. Worst case scenario, removal. My own package included my fill for a year. My band has not caused me any major problems but if I had had to pay since my package ended, it wouid have cost me maybe £4000 (£ not $). I have had two small unfills, three routine annual barium swallows, an XRay to identify a problem, an operation to repair a leak. Now none of that cost me anything. But I have a long term online American friend who is appallingly in debt because her band was causing her major problems and her insurance company (even though they initally paid for the band) refused to pay fir its removal as it wasn't an emergency.
  12. Hey all, I''m right outside of Albany. I was just banded in April, actully will be 4 weeks tomorrow. Looking for some local people who have been banded. My friends don't quite understand the socal changes that I had to make and looking for some new things to do since I'm not into the bar scene lately.
  13. Thank you - all your comments have been most helpful. Everyday I lean towards the band. I am now ready to verify my weight for the 2nd time (-5%). I will be referred to my center and good to go. Sweets note - I don't partake daily anymore - in fact I can walk away for weeks at a time but the days I do hit a cookie - I feel really bad (physically) - so I think I can walk all the way. I do get cold feet about this now and then. I feel bad guilty that I need this procedure. My family history is loaded with obesity and I fear that I am on that path no matter how hard I work at this. It all started with cholesterol numbers then my scale numbers then my liver started to yell at me then my gallbladder. How can I lose 5% of this weight and not more or keep it off? I work out daily and yet - the numbers do not go below 200. I am 5 2. See PCP today

Am I making the biggest mistake of my life?

Quite normal reaction. I was banded on 4/16, and up to the point when my doctor left my bedside (pre-surgery) I was nervous. I remember my doctor asking, "ready kiddo"? and I said "no", yes, no, yes, I'm not sure, yeah I'm ready". You've made this decision because your are disgusted with life/weight as it is, and nothing else has worked, right? Go for it, girl. Within the first week of post-op, you'll never look back. Go to U-tube and look at all the success stories. Just do a lapband search on the site. Beat wishes!!!!!

Am I making the biggest mistake of my life?

I was banded 18 days ago, and I had the worst jitters. I was approved for the surgery in Nov.08, but kept changing my surgery date due to fear. I suffer from panic disorder that takes the smallest fear and turn it into a major event. From the bottom of my heart I will tell you that I wasted 6 months worrying for nothing. The procedure lasted 45 minutes. I woke up to a small tummy ache, but no real pain. I felt sore for the first 48 hours and its been all up hill from there. The hardest part in the first week was me getting bored with the liquid diet. I went to creamy and soft food the second week and I am a happy camper.

I'm 1 week post op and started work Wednesday. I work from home so it's not too much strain Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  18. Yes, they are. I'll ship them out this week. The only request I have is that you pay it forward by giving some of your clothes away to someone that needs them when you lose out of them. Thanks!

    Sinus Drainage!

I am almost 3 weeks post op. I can tell when I've ate too much by the slight pain right above my collar bone. However when I wake up in the morning its not slight its MASSIVE! I know its sinus drainage, for reasons too gross to post. I obviously haven't had a fill yet so can this stretch my pouch? I already feel like I can eat a lot more than I could. Which could be because swelling has gone down. I just don't want to have a stretched pouch because my sinuses decided to go haywire! Anyone else have this problem?
  20. Hi all- I was banded on April 27th of this year. I have lost all total (including pre-op) 58 lbs. I am so thankful and happy for that. However, after my last fill, I have lost maybe 2 lbs...and it has been three weeks! I am now not making great choices as far as food ( but not horrible either). I am so frustrated as I am (and have been) about 4 lbs from a MAJOR milestone on the scale. I got on the scale today and it showed I gained about 1.5lbs....from what, I am not sure. A little weight gain from the choices I made maybe but not 1.5 lbs! I am even exercising 3 times a week for 1.5 hours. I would love someone that I could talk to, who can understand, who can be an accountability partner. I can be that for someone else too. Thanks- Jen
  21. My name is Knapptown and I have just completed my Lapband surgery on 5/29/14. A little background - I am a 45 yr old male 6'3 - former football player. My weight had been gradually increasing since I laid my helmet down in 1994. When My career was over - I weighed 295lbs. The month prior to my operation - I weighed in at 355lbs. Although the weight I picked up in 25 years was just 60 lbs.... Carrying 295 lbs as a football player @ 25 is VASTLY different from carrying 355 lbs as a 45 year old man. I had no interest in carrying this type of weight into my late 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s and beyond. So I maned up and banded up. I have several complications that go along with obesity - low back pain, high blood pressure, sleep apnea and a host of others. Furthermore, I am in love with food! Not just the eating part, but the pageantry that goes along with dining. Fun to me is a 4 hour dinner at a great restaurant with 20 friends. But a week after my surgery I can already tell you it was the best decision I ever made. I am down 20lbs in one week and I realize that I have completely embraced this new lifestyle.
  22. In a number of posts lately, opinions have been expressed that some people are gaining or at least not losing weight due to a lack of carbs in their diet. I've spent the better part of my spare time for the past three days trying to find any scientific proof of this theory. All I could come up with was a discredited study from some years ago. If any one has proof that this theory has some basis in fact, could you please present it on this forum so we might have a new reason for lack of weight loss.
  23. Yes! Dallas and Cinc, right? my husband is a huge Dallas fan! we will be watching. things will get better just got to get us through the next couple weeks or so.
  24. I'm sorry to be blunt, but to do that without your surgeon's say so is just out and out crazy. You are risking your band. The transition diet is there for a reason - its to allow your stomach to recover and the band to heal into place - so that its held firmly where it should be. You may *feel* fine. But it wont feel so fine if you have your band slip somewhere down the track because of what you decided was OK in the first few weeks. Every surgeon differs, so I wouldnt say that because i had liquids for three entire weeks that the next person should have to. But solids after 9 days isnt on any regime I've heard of.
