    Purée ideas

I started the purée stage of my diet today....everything I tried was disgusting. Anyone have some good meal ideas? Unfortunately I don't like yogurt so that's out.

    Purée ideas

pureed foods make me gag. its a texture thing. except for Soup. so i figure, i'm gonna make a lot of pureed soups! one thing i do love is roasted and grilled veggies. figure they can be made into a dip type thing with olive oil. my sheet says soft fish, so i'm gonna try that, cause we do like fish around here! figure i'll cook it in little parchment packets and mash mine a bit with a fork. refried Beans come to mind too. i'll have to make mine myself though, since gas is an issue for me. refried beans, little diced veggies on top with greek yogurt and tiny bit o cheese. i like cottage cheese all different ways, sweet, savory... blame my mom, beng gluten free in the 60-70s was not easy! when i was nursing, i made a supercharged rice pudding with no added sugar. it was mochi (short grain) brown rice, milk and eggs. you can make this with any kind of milk beverage you like. i wonder if that would work, though i know some people dont eat carbs... my nut sheets say 1-3 whole grain products a day.

    Lunch With a Friend

So I call up a friend from work and we agree to meet at a diner for lunch-it's around 1pm and all I have had so far was yogurt in the morning. I am hungry-I really want to eat and I feel as though I could eat (unlike mornings). Anyway this friend knows I have the band...I order a garden veggie egg beater omellet, fruit cup (instead of home fires) and no toast. Well, I could barely get 4 bites down. I had to ask for a to-go box and I ate 2-3 small pieces of fruit. I guess that wasn't a good choice for me. I am thinking eggs over light might go down better-geeze! Tonight we are going out for my daughter's birthday-I was going to do Hibachi -but no way can I do that and not stand out. Only thing I can eat is seafood and at night I can mange more.

    Why is today so tough?!?

I too am almost one week through, but mines a three week liquid, so two more weeks to go. I had a real bad day yesterday. Stomach cramped and burned all day. I really drank up the broth and had a Oikos triple zero yogurt which is thick and filling. The warmth from the broth and the thick yogurt really helped. Like Dale said above. Just get through today. Today has been pretty easy so far. My biggest challenge has been having to cook dinner and not get to eat. I planned menus my kids can make (their 14 - 21) , so i don't have to be in the kitchen much and plan crock pot meals I don't have to worry about either so much. this helps a lot. Out of site, out of mind... keep busy and the time will fly. Blessing on your journey.

    Confused, upset

protein, protein, protein and water, water, water Protein is whats goingmto keep you from chewing off your arm. Greek yogurt, creamed soups with greek yogurt added in(boost the protein). My fave was tomato with yogurt. Low fat ricotta cheese, cottage cheese and eggs are good in the protein dept. Really hungry, have a cup of hot decaf tea,my fave is Chai and diet hot chocolate a good go to. Right now it is mind over matter. You gotta make up your mind that you really want this and you're willing to suffer through the hunger. Do things to keep busy and your head busy. Clean closets, drawers, cabinets, whatever it takes to not sit around thinking of food. BTW. I'm 6 1/2 mths out and can still eat anything I want, just smaller portions, smaller bites and chewing it to mush. You can do this! Tell your mind to shut the hell up.lol
  7. I found this article to be interesting. I have been at the same weight for about a month now and this gave me a little insight on the Protein vs. carb issue. Hope others find it useful as well. Eat Your Way Slim SELF.com By Lucy Danziger, SELF Editor-in-Chief - Posted on Tue, Jan 27, 2009, 1:08 pm PST Grab your fork: Filling up on healthy foods is the best way to say sayonara to those stubborn 5, 10 or 15 pounds. A few years ago, when I complained about the extra luggage I was carrying, a trainer told me, "That's between you and the bread basket." And she was right. I went on to lose about 25 pounds without counting calories or cutting meals, but rather by reducing refined carbs such as Pasta and bagels and increasing the amount of fruit, veggies and lean protein on my plate. Science helps me understand why: Studies suggest that we absorb 6 percent fewer calories when we follow a diet with at least 34 grams a day of Fiber (which is chockablock in produce). We also know our bodies expend more energy digesting protein than fat or carbs, and eating at least 50 grams of protein a day can delay hunger pains and boost energy. Try these other tips from our Jump Start Diet to whittle your middle and achieve the healthiest weight for you. Ruin your appetite: If you only eat three squares a day, you might be getting too hungry between meals, causing you to overeat when you finally sit down to dine. Treat yourself to two 150-calorie Snacks a day to keep your blood sugar stable and rein in hunger. Try a string cheese with an apple or lowfat yogurt and fruit. Supersize your eats: Sometimes bigger really is better. Selecting a high-volume version of the food you want can help you eat less. People who had cheese puffs for a snack ate 21 percent fewer calories than those given denser bites, researchers at Penn State University at University Park found. Because the food looks bigger, you’re happy and satisfied with fewer calories. Try rice cakes, popcorn or puffed Cereal instead of chips when you want a snack. SELF has more ways to trade up to healthier treats. Don't fear frozen meals: Eating an entree out of your freezer isn't something you want to make a daily habit, but once in a while it can be a smart way to refresh your memory on sensible serving sizes. Choose ones with about 350 calories, at least 3 grams of protein, 1.5 grams of fiber and no more than 1.5 grams of saturated fat per 100 calories. Put it on a plate and snap a mental picture of it before digging in. This will help sidestep portion distortion in the future. Plot your path: When you map out your meals for the day, you’re less likely to stumble on diet setbacks such as unhealthy takeout or king-size treats from the vending machine. Take a moment to jot down what you plan to nosh for the next few days, and check back to see how you did. This will help you pinpoint trouble spots (such as a few unplanned scoops of ice cream in front of the tube) and allow you to Celebrate when you help yourself to healthier fare. Sleeved 7/31 whats everyone eating?

I'm 5 1/2 weeks out and on soft foods (after a long 4 weeks of liquids). I eat alot of chili, mashed potatoes, eggs, oatmeal, yogurt, turkey deli meat, and cottage cheese. I'm also bored. I want a big (make that little!) juicy steak, a salad, grilled chicken, and bread. I know, I don't want much, right? LOL You're doing great. I've lost 17 lbs, gaining and losing the same 1 lb over the past week. I started at 174 on july 16th so I know it'll come off lsower than say someone who started at 250 (which was my orginial weight when banded 4 yrs ago). I had the same dr also. 3 hrs away. Thats sucks but I really luv my dr so it's fine. The dr in my town doesn't take my insurance (Medicare, they only cover Centers of Excellence). Good luck to you. Expand ur eating so ur not so bored. I luv me some chili with a little melted sharp cheddar on top! Dip some melba toast in it...yummo
  9. I was on a pre-op diet for two weeks, but it wasn't a liquid diet. I had two protein shakes, one fruit, one yogurt, 4 oz lean meat (turkey, chicken, etc), 2 slices light whole wheat bread, unlimited non-starchy veggies per day - (abbreviated version). It seems there are as many diets to no diet as there are doctors. I know it will be hard to handle a liquid diet while you're traveling for business. Best wishes to you.
  10. This depends on the Dr. I also thought that it was necessary but discovered that is not true. When I had my hysterectomy last year my Dr did not require that I get an unfill. The only issue that I has was that the hospitals idea of a light diet did not tie up with what I considered to be a suitable lapbanders light diet. they kept trying to feed me sandwiches so all I got to eat was the soft stuff like icecream, jelly ,custard and yogurt which was not very satisfying.

    Delicious Protein

I put this stuff in my greek yogurt in the mornings. Love it!
  12. OMgoodness! I agree with you on the food commercials. I have a 16 month old, so most of the TV I watch comes from DVR after he is in bed. So I fast forward through those babies! Ya know what else I notice.....food billboards. I don't know if I paid that much attention to them before. We don't or hadn't been eating out much anyway, but now I see them and think grrrr. :cool2: Ha! Not to mention that everything looks and smells better now too! How funny huh! When I hit the drinkable yogurt phase I was like YUM!

  16. I was sleeved on 9/21, too. I can tolerate every food I have tried. I typically can eat around 3 oz. of a meal with dense protein. I can easily eat a 5 oz. yogurt, though, or a small bowl of soup. You are supposed to be able to eat more as time goes on, so don't worry about that! You can't survive on 3 oz meals forever. Try not to compare yourself to anyone else - you have lost 39 lbs and are doing great! I definitely understand your fear, though, because there are days I worry that I am losing too slowly or eating too much, too.

    I am a caffiene addict-HELP!!

Don't worry. MY doctor said I COULD have caffine and I actually had some coffee right after my surgery!!! I had a caffine headache and he said I could have a few sips. The only reason you are told not to have caffine is because it dehydrates you. My Dr. said that I could have a cup of coffe in the morning as long as I get in ALL my fluids during the day. (64oz.) So, relax and have a cup of coffee on me. Some of you may disagree, but I am doing what my Dr. says. I was banded on 9/30 and am eating small portions of cottage cheese, yogurt and mushy life cereal. I guess my Dr. is a bit more relaxed than others, but that is ok with me! I feel fine and am not overdoing it. Good luck!

    "You will fail"....question

Even though the pre-op liver shrinking included sweet shakes and bars, I am 6 weeks post-op and only occasionally feel a little pull towards cake, chocolate, pie, dessert. Mostly I can walk right past shop displays and can even watch those close-up food-porn shots on TV cooking shows without wanting to join in. A couple of spoonfuls of slightly sweet yogurt or maybe a couple of dried apple chips fix any desire for sweet food after dinner. For snacking, lite milk is sweet enough and has the Protein to get rid of hunger pangs. Four weeks post-op I was feeling over-confident because everything had gone smoothly, so I resumed my weekly trip to the farmers market and while I was there I bought a slice of quiche and ate half the filling. I thought it was only egg and milk or cream, and wouldn't be a problem. But I had eaten lunch only half an hour before. Whoa! The reaction was so extreme and awful - sweating, dizziness, needing to vomit, couldn't sit down, couldn't stand up, had difficulty catching my breath - for about 15 minutes that it put me right back on track. If that was dumping I never want to go there again!
  20. Some of my favorites were cottage cheese, Greek yogurt, and scrambled eggs... also you could try baby cereals with a little flavoring and/or pureed baby foods with some flavorless protein powder. Good luck! Sent from my Alcatel_5008R using BariatricPal mobile app

    Help! Please...

My program allowed many soft foods between weeks 2 and 6, but I had trouble too. I had to eat very tiny bites, chew for 30 seconds, wait 30 seconds and then another bite. I used a clock with a second hand and demitasse spoon. I could only manage about an ounce. Most of my nutrition still came from Protein drinks and greek yogurt. And like someone else noted, if something is bothering you, just drop back to your previous stage for a few days and try again. Lynda

    Be Careful Food!!!

Wonder I'd you can do something like a soup with high amount of protein, cream of wheat, a frozen yogurt (Tasso) has 6 grams protein in it. It's in form of a creamsicle.

    Help! Please...

after a week I moved to stage 2 and I basically ate mashed potatoes and yogurt along with my protein shakes of course

    Struggling badly...

I've always been one to get hungry quickly after eating a breakfast of Cereal or oatmeal - carbs. I find that Protein stays with me much longer. A scrambled egg or some yogurt works well for me. You should check out the Surgical Weight Loss 5 Day Pouch Test. Lots of folks here swear by it for helping get back on track. In fact, there is a whole thread dedicated to getting ourselves back on the bandwagon: http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f178/starting-holiday-detox-early-anyone-wanna-join-me-84070/ . Lots of good support and advice there!

Nervous about eating...moving to soft foods

I am also nervous to try anything new on mushies. I seem to be sticking to full liquids rather than mushies. One night I did have fish and green beans. It was good but I chewed it to death. That should count as part of my exercise! LOL I eat refried beans and mashed potatoes and other than that it is still yogurt, pudding, SF popsicles, juice and broth. I am so scared I will over eat. When I first had the refried beans I did eat too much so I now I am nervous.
