  1. I workout 5-6 days a week. Alternating between 45 mins on the treadmill at the gym and a 30 min. step aerobic routine I do at home. I also do weights 3 times a week with a trainer. That's great you are joining the gym! Start out slow so you don't make yourself miserable (then you might not go back lol). Slowly increase time and intensity. Getting started is the hardest part. You can do it!
  2. I went in on 8/4 released 8/7 and my doctor told me I could eat pureed foods not just liquids, told me I would get tired of that quick. Suggested buying real Soups and puree in blender. I have had pureed soups and meats (underwood devil ham and chicken, soft scrambled egg, poached egg, cream of wheat, plain greek yogurt (with juice added for taste), cottage cheese in my first two weeks post op. Check with your doctor, everyone is a little different. Except for occasional overeating I have put down a cup of food at at time for meals and rather large gulps for liquids. I often wonder how much stomach he left in, I seem to take in more than most people.

    ready for my first fill

I wouldn't think so but every surgeon is different. Mine waits six weeks.

    Cant keep meds down

Some people experience strictures and this can make it difficult. At 4 weeks post-op, you might be experiencing one of these. Since you can't even keep Vitamins down, this might be a cause. Your taste buds generally change after surgery. This can make Protein shakes difficult to drink. But experimentation is the key. Just keep trying all the different options available until you can find one you can tolerate. You don't have to like it, just tolerate it.

    Just Starting Out!

my requirements and timeline are in my sig. I could have scheduled the surgery for sept 30, but had to wait til november bc of work. otherwise I would have been in and out in about 6 weeks total.
  6. I gained 5 lbs during the two weeks that I was on solids before my first fill.
  7. No I am definitely not miscalculating calories. I am as strict as they come with not only my portion sizes but my calories and Protein intake as well. I was banded 9 weeks ago and have lost 21lbs to date. I called my doctor's office yesterday and she told me that I am right on track with my weight loss. She said that the average weight loss is 1 - 2 lbs per week and right now I am above that. I guess I just get anxious and want it all off immediately and I have to realize it is going to take time, just as it did for me to put the weight on. I just didn't know if there was a correlation between fills and weight loss because so many people on here say they didn't "really start seeing the weight fall off" until after 3 or 4 fills. Thank you all for your comments and posts.

POLL: When could you wear a bra post-op?

I never had that trouble. I wore a bra home from the hospital. Maybe you should try a sports bra for comfort over the next few weeks.....
  9. That is very encouraging. I am goning to be banded on 7/15. I am also going back to work after one week.
  10. I've been having a soury taste in my mouth, I guess it's acid, I dont take PPI's any more, 7 weeks out, but it doesn't really bother me (the starnge taste) and since I stopped taking them I'm hardly hungry anymore! Will ask my surgeon on thursday if i still need tto take them cause i ran out

    weight loss normal?

My dietitian said that a great result is to lose around 30% of your excess body weight in the first three months. So subtract your goal weight from your highest weight and work out 30% of that figure. However that's the bench mark for a fantastic result there will be a lot of variations of that some higher some lower and as long as you are losing its a good thing [emoji3] Sent from my CPH1607 using BariatricPal mobile app

    Surgery was last night

I can't believe how lucky I was. I see all these posts about extreme pain. I was hitting the morphine button pretty much every time I remembered it was there the day of surgery but I really don't remember any pain. Never had any of the gas issues. The worst part was no liquids. Surgeon said no liquids for 24 hours after surgery and I already been with no liquids for 12 hours prior. Day 2 I was taking liquid Vicodin but only had two doses. I was only able to get a few steps at a time but food was going down okay. Day three, there was that was really bad nausea and I had to take three different types of anti nausea medicine to get under control but that was it. I had one dose of liquid Vicodin in anticipation of a long car ride and a half a Vicodin when I got home but nothing since. One of the posters who was sleeve that pretty much the exact same time I was still needs Tramadol and Oxycodone to sleep. I do have problems with pressure in my chest when eating and often all day but nothing to the level of true pain. I've got to pray to the gods of weight loss surgery for sparing me some of the stuff that you guys are going through. You have my sympathies. HW 385 SW 359 Sleeved 10/5/16

    weight loss normal?

Sounds better than me. 310 at start on Sept 13, now im 287. 23lbs in 8 weeks (2 months!). What a crock of **** this procedure is, for me at least! Ive been the same damn weight for the last 3 weeks, then 2 weeks prior, i was the same damn weight for 3 weeks. Only reason i lost weight was because straight outta surg (iv probably) and i got sick and couldnt eat another week. But being not sick, eating right, exercise ever single day...nothing. You have no idea how disappointed i am at this procedure in me. Its not like its been 10lbs a month either. Like i said, it was 10lbs loss in 1 week from sickness, 9lbs first week out...and thats it. Im so disgusted.
  14. I had my band placed 6 weeks ago. First 2 weeks were great! Then the trouble started - couldn't keep anything down for 3 weeks, was told it was "soft tissue" swelling - last week doc went it to "unbuckle" the band - and I came out with a drain, NG tube, antibiotics, and doc said "your stomach looked like a hard piece of rubber - an abscess had formed next to the band btw my stomach and liver - finally went home - no band - just lots of antibiotics to hopefully keep the abscess from returning and aspiration pneumonia in the process. Lap band surgery - $3200 for "what insurance doesn't pay"; complications - 1 week out of work with no pay - hopefully living through this with no more hope of losing weight - priceless. I have lost 25lbs in this nightmare of 6 weeks and still keep nothing down except liquids - and sometimes the antibiotics. The band is an invasive, tricky surgery and although my surgeon states she has never seen someone reject the band like this - I don't believe her. I would NEVER recommend this surgery to anyone. I said 2 months ago that I was going to lose the weight or die trying - it looks like the latter is more likely to be true. Orange Coast Memorial Center for Obesity is not where you want to place your life.

    What's the skinny????

The first 6 weeks is not about losing weight - its about healinggggggg. This is normal After you find your sweet spot then you will lose the weight and it might or might not take a couple fills.

    Tossing the Scale??

I weigh myself once a week. I have been really good about that since surgery. Well- I cheated twice (in almost 6 months). The daily flucuations would drive me crazy. However, I think different things work for different people.

    Heartburn/overfilled

My weight is down overall. I recently gained 5 pounds since I had an unfill 2.5 weeks ago. However, at about 24 weeks I am at a net loss of -11 pounds (154 at conception and currently 143). My band tightened sporadically during pregnancy. I was fine for the most part but occasionally with drift from eating fine to having trouble with liquids in a couple of days which led to 3 emergency unfills. I now have to stay empty until the baby comes. Just keep in mind, heartburn is a common side effect of pregnancy as well as banding. Either factor could be causing it. I am happy the slight unfill will give you some relief.

    Heartburn/overfilled

never had heartburn. The first few days post-delivery I was open. Not wide open, but open. Then I clamped down. Had a significant unfill, then had another due to significant refluxing. Have been good since, no reflux at all, PB once, tightness but not sognificantly so. Have a fill scheduled this week. I've gained 11 lbs back and I'm not happy because one of those 11 was the one that kicked me into the next size up in my clothes.

    Weight loss stall

You can expect stalls throughout your entire journey. It's unfortunate but normal. I've read of stalls lasting a couple days or weeks. I personally had about a two week stall a couple weeks after surgery.

    Weight Loss Stall

I am now 5 weeks out I went through my stall I'm week 3 and 4 then week 5 I lost 6 pounds I was pretty worried I was doing something wrong but my doctor said it was completely normal
  22. I am 15 days post OP sleeve and over the last 5 days I haven't lost any more Weight! I did look it up and it seems it's a normal thing around this time, but I wanted to hear your opinions or if anyone has experienced this as well? If it matters, I'm up to about 59 oz of fluids a day and soft foods (eggs, low-fat cottage cheese, protein shakes, etc). What are your experiences? Sorry To Complain

Something your not going to want to hear is this is normal. Maybe if they had better prepared us for these feelings it may have been different, my doctor told me that before I had my first fill I was going to be hungry. I was lucky I didn't really start to get hungry until about week 3. What I suggest is that you drink some of your soups or liquids every 2 hours. The first 6 weeks are your time to heal and adjust to having the band, you will not really have the benefit of the band until after your first fill and I am sorry to say it may take several fills before you really reach that Green zone they talk about. Patience is hard, but remember this is a life time journey and nothing worthwhile happens over night. But your not whining your hungry and that is normal. Are you allowed protein shakes yet, if so that is another option to help stave off the hungry. Hang in there it does get better.

    Second Fill WOAH!!!

I had my 4th fill 3 weeks ago. I've never had a problem with a fill until this time. liquid went down fine and still does. I just can't get any solid food down yet. I think the band might be too tight. I see my doc this Thursday. Every time I try to chew chew chew and swallow food it hurts and comes back up within 15 minutes. (even soft and mushies) So.. I'm sticking with Protein Drinks and broth until I see my doc. Hope you are doing better.
