  1. I am having the revision with Lopez. I too am hoping to wake up with the sleeve. I've had the band for almost 9 years. No major problems other than foods getting stuck ugh.

    Any March 2021 Sleeve Patients?

I had surgery on 3/1 and had a few complications but still got to go home after about 24 hours. I had a band to sleeve revision and my band had slipped and was doing some damage to my liver - so I have a lovely drain on my side for another few days. Thankfully very little nausea or pain. The worst has been the gas pain that is near the drain site - it is stabbing. Showering has been difficult but I still get up and (slowly) walk as much as I can. Staying hydrated too. Looking forward to getting the drain removed next week which I think will make me feel 1000% better.
  3. Is that Dr. alejandro lopez? If it is, I am also thinking very seriously about having a revision from band to sleeve with him, he seems like a very capable and experienced surgeon. When are you going? I would be really happy to receive any feed back from you. Good luck!

    Need AUGUST bypass buddies!

Becky I am kinda hoping for the bypass myself. After reading and learning more about it these past weeks - I am not afraid of it anymore and in fact think it would suit me much better then the sleeve. Sweets has always been the hardest thing for me to let go of - the bypass would help to make me suffer if I dont let them go! though I also know some people are still able to tolerate them - but I wont risk getting sick... I'm only on a 3 day liquid diet, my surgeon tailors it to your starting BMI. food funerals are very common and I'd be lying if I didn't say I'm enjoying some foods that I love knowing it could be the last time ever if I have bad dumping and if not at least for a while. Though, if you get the sleeve you will definitely be able to eat your favorite foods after you heal. I'd also be lying if I said I'm not praying hard for you to get a bypass, I know you wanted the sleeve but your GERD worries me so much since I had the same thing and am now in bad shape 2 years later and revising. Don't overdo the food funerals because you don't want to put on weight prior to surgery but I don't think it's too naughty to enjoy some food before you have surgery

    I Was Too Afraid...

I ended up having RNY once it was determined that it was the best surgery for me given my severe Gerd. I wanted to have this surgery one time. It has been. One of the best decisions of my life. I no longer get any type of reflux, heartburn and no longer take medications for it. I would give serious thought before proceeding with the sleeve given your history. You may just end up with yet another revision. I have seen many people on this site have to revise twice before they finally get what they need, several have complications due to all the previous damage from the band, sleeve and reflux made worse. I would suggest talking to your surgeon and doing some research before deciding for sure. Good luck to you!
  6. Tina - I was reading about revisions from band to sleeve and they said there were less complications when the band and port are taken out and then after that heals they do the sleeve. I can't remember the main point of it but you might want to check it out - not sure how Kaiser does it. I'm interested to see what they tell you - I would be surprised if they will pay for it if their is no medical reason to have the band removed.
  7. Cole I worry to but I have lost almost 50 pounds. Once I hit the 50 pound mark I am considered a lap band success!! So I have been successful I try to focus on that to.......I just want to lose another 50 to consider myself a success!! But I am off the blood pressure meds, the GERD is gone, and the irriatable bowl thing they told me I had is totally gone too. So if I am down 50 and considered a success than maybe revisions are not an option. Like Annalyn said the goal is to lose and maintain lose. Maybe I am already a success and the rest is extra :-) That might be closer to reality My mom is driving my crazy lately wanting to know why I am not down the 100 I aimed for in the beginning!! Ughhh...sorta annoying me cause than I start to wonder the same darn thing!!
  8. Wow I was surprised to get emails that this board was still going!! How are you ladies?? I had my band removed on 12/17/14 because it has erroded and I had a hiatal hernia. I got revised to the sleeve. So far so good. I was off track for so long because I had all of my fluid removed when I got pregnant. I was empty for over two years and when I went to go get some put back in my dr did an upper GI and saw the issues. I was honestly so happy to get the band out!! But yea the brain is the hardest part of this whole thing.

    Pondering Question to ask...

I was a pure volume eater before surgery. Meaning, I would eat 3 large pieces of pizza, and would be full but I would go back for more. The sleeve has changed my outlook and relationship with food. I no longer need or want to eat huge amounts of food. I still love food, I love to eat, I just make better choices. To answer your specific questions: How does your body/stomach react? Early on, you can only take small sips of Fluid because the stomach is swollen, and irritated. As the weeks progress, you can consume more fluid in shorter amount of time. In the beginning, the fluid going in, kind of feels weird, I burped a lot after each sip and that lasted a couple of weeks. But, it dissipated as time moved forward. How do you feel? When you overeat, you know it. There is discomfort, you may overprodcue saliva, and that's pretty gross. Vomitting as I knew it before surgery is not the same anymore, and hasn't happened to me in months. But, I have had one bite too many, it kind of creeps back up the esophagus, and I spit it out. There is no wretching, gagging, or trying to get something up. Is it painful if you eat too much? I would have to say it can be painful depending on your pain tolerance. It does cause discomfort which can be relieved by walking around, or burping sometimes. Do you feel like throwing up? It's not the same as needing to vomit. But, it can happen if you are not aware of what you are putting in your mouth. What is it that stops you from bringing that fork up to your mouth? The feeling of being satisfied when I eat small portions. There isn't any room in my stomach for any additional food. Overeating constantly can cause issues such as esophageal dilation, and excessive vomiting which can lead to other health problems. I had already had figured out the learning curve with eating because I had the band first then revised to the sleeve. Eating slow, chewing well, enjoying your food, and measuring your portions early out until you can "eyeball" stuff is a great way to keep yourself in check with portion size. I used the little 1 ounce measurement cups that comes with children's OTC medication.

    9/30

I had surgery in 09/16th, so 3-weeks and 2-days ago and I had a lap-band removal and revision to RNY. My doctor has me progressing with food such as crumbled hamburger meat with cheese. Hopefully, you can have that soon. I am drinking plenty of fluids everyday and taking the Vitamins as directed. It gets better.
  11. Hi Becca and welcome to Bariatric Pal, Congratulations on your surgery. Here is the url for the December sleever forum. http://www.bariatricpal.com/forum/679-december-2013-sleevers/ and two threads http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/266150-december-sleevers/ http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/289778-december-2013-sleevers-this-is-our-month-are-yall-ready/page-17#entry3289359 I am not sure how many people in this group are revision patients. I am a band to sleeve revision in one procedure. I had my surgery on 10/25/13.
  12. I was banded May 19, 2010. Revision in one procedure December 9, 2013. Surgery Weight: 306 Current Weight: 273.4
  13. Hi earthless, Welcome! I'm also new here, and hoping to gain lots of help, ideas and tips on this site. But, what do u mean got stalled at week 3? Don't u find it super hard to only be on such limited food/liquid?? I had revision surgery band-sleeve on 12-23-13. Which makes me 7 days post op...almost. I am starved!!! What is wrong with me??

What's so bad about being fat anyway?

Jacqui, I'm happy for those for whom the LapBand has--so far, anyway--caused few or no problems, but that group is not a miniscule as you might believe...nor are the problems as minor as one might assume from reading your post. A young woman on another board I frequent, who was LUCKY because her surgeon was Rumbaut, just spent 9.5 hours in surgery and 11 days in the hospital having her band revised to an RnY. If it took Rumbaut, one of the most experienced band surgeons on the planet, 9.5 hours to fix something...it was a mess. a mess that MANY other doctors would not have had the experience to repair. I never said that mental health was not important. If someone is unhappy being obese, that's just another good reason to do something about it. But if anyone is having any wls in hopes that "the other kids" will like them better...they need help. There ARE people who have surgery for all kinds of reasons...and doctors who, for their own reasons, actually perform surgery on people with bizarre reasons...like the doctor in Scotland who amputated the healthy limbs of people who just felt they'd be happier with only one leg. But to tell the truth, I've encountered several people who have learned AFTER having wls (or various types) and losing substantial weight, that not fitting in and not being accepted and all of that was NEVER about their weight.
  15. My original surgeon moved farther away, so with traffic it would have been a four hour round trip. So I found a new surgeon. She removed my band last year and will be doing my revision next month.
  16. Can you tell me more about the PH monitoring? I don’t know what to expect if we go ahead with this. I thought finding a hernia would be enough, but my doctor submitted me a GERD revision.
  17. HEY PINKGIRL, WHERE IN JERSEY ARE YOU FROM. So you had a revision from band to gastric? hmmmm i take it you hated the band huh? Why did you go to rny instead of the sleeve? im just curious because our stats are very similiar. 5'9 240lbs goal is 175 the least (i think)lol i think 145 would be way too small for me and my height. What made you decide on 145 were you ever that.. i was, in the 9th grade.lolol.. Well congratulations on your weight loss. What was the lowest weight you went from and to with the band ...What were your complications with the band.? My doc is in Paramus, NJ Hospital he performs surgery is Hackensack Hospital..keep up the good work. Are you happy with the RNY are you losing at the rate you want to. Im sorry if i ask to many questions. i like to know and learn everything i can when it comes to WLS..
  18. I'm not sure what I would do, but I was definitely disappointed with the band. I had great success and lost 120 pounds in 1 year, but then everything came crashing down and I started having lots of problems including several ulcers. So, ultimately I had to have it emptied...and gained all of the way back. I am, however, happy to say that on Friday I will be having the band to sleeve revision surgery.
  19. I thank you for this. I have given it more time. I’ve been eating healthy and exercising. This has only gotten me to maintain my current weight. I would do the reset as you suggested but it was extremely difficult when I did it preop and trying it now, although somewhat easier after the ESG, is still a struggle. I’m honestly kind of stuck in limbo here. I have looked into a very reputable surgeon in Mexico who is highly skilled at performing revisions. I wanted to achieve greater weight loss and believed that ESG would do that. The only benefit I’ve experienced was the initial 10 pound loss and then maintenance. The trama you mentioned is more mental trama. I feel like such a failure and it’s because I didn’t get anywhere near my goal. I hope that getting a gastric sleeve the results will be a greater weight loss. It will come with hard work and more pain and discomfort, I’m prepared for that if it means I will finally feel comfortable in my skin. For me, the physical pain would have been worth the weight loss. I would have traded having more pain and discomfort with the ESG for a losing more weight any day! Thank you so much for kind words of concern. I hope to find continued support here with whatever decision I make. I’m leaning towards getting sleeved though. I’m tired of the mental struggle.

    New 60+ Thread

Well, unfortunately I had to switch to a night time weigh in this week (TOPS), so I had a gain! Boo Hoo!! Hope next week will be better. A new TOPS group started up at our RV park so we don't have to travel up the road now. But, it meets at night!! If you want to come down and warm up, don't go to Florida!! We're in the Palm Springs area...... CALIFORNIA!! And it hasn't been a GREAT winter so far. We just had a week of wonderful weather and then came yesterday!! Our Valentine's plans had to be revised because they included going to the Palm Springs Thursday night street fair and it was TOO COLD to walk around outside! It even snowed in Palm Springs yesterday!! I think it's a little warmer today and the wind isn't howling like it was yesterday. So we are getting ready to go to the pool for Water aerobics! We chickened out yesterday!

    Port revision question

I just had it 2wks ago. My port flipped completely over. My Dr said I'm only the second one after hundreds of surgeries he has done. I'm so special, lol Any ways, this surgery is much easier than the original surgery. You don't have the chest and gas pressure , as with LBS. They also give you pain meds that work well on incision sting. I had to do 24hrs of liquid b/c I also had a 1.5cc fill at time of revision. Needless to say, I'm being very careful not to lift anything to heavy this time. Oh, another thing, didn't have to have to be intubated(?) air tube down my throat and they used local and different sleep meds than LBS. My daughter met me after surgery and said "you look great for someone who just had surgery" and I did feel good, not the WTH did I do to myself after LB! Good Luck, you'll be fine!
  23. My band was placed in Aug 2008 and eroded and removed in April 2011. Since I was so sick, the surgeon opted to do the revision in two seperate surguries.

    NEWBIES..... LETS STICK TOGETHER

I'm a newbie to the sleeve although not to WLS. I will be having lapband to sleeve revision surgery June 23rd. I am so nervous about the possibility of my doctor finding a lot of scar tissue left over from the lapband. I'm just really ready for it to be over already so I can stop worrying.
