I was prescribed that for a year after surgery (that was seven years ago, though, before the new-ish research came out on PPI's. Now they usually prescribe it for 3-6 months). So yes - that should be fine. I didn't have to break mine open though (cant' remember if I had capsules or tablets, but I never crushed or open them)

Hello everyone, My name is Jennifer and I live in Tempe, AZ. I have been considering getting the LapBand to help with my weight loss, but I'm not sure where to start my research. I've been to the seminar at the Bariatric Services at Banner in Mesa, but I found them to be very impersonal and they rushed me out instead of answering my questions. I also had one person in the seminar tell me I shouldn't be there because I wasn't "big enough". Whatever that means. If you have had the procedure done or are in the process of it, I have many questions for you. Such as: What are the steps prior to the procedure? I've heard various stories anywhere from they starve you for 2 weeks all the way to requiring to see a psychologist to make sure you can handle the life change. Can someone clear this up for me? Also, choosing a doctor. How do I know I'm getting the best possible care and I'm not dealing with a doc who just wants to make a quick buck? I've been under general anesthesia twice for knee surgeries and it scares me to know that I'll have no control over what they do when I'm out. The first time I was under, the doc botched up my knee. The second surgery was to correct what the first doc screwed up. I don't want to make the same mistake with my organs! Are there any websites for surgeons in the area where I can check their backgrounds and get reviews from former patients? Here's a questions for those who can answer: Is this thing removable? If I decide several years after the procedure that I don't want it in my body anymore, will there be complications to removing it? What are the follow-ups after the procedure like as far as frequency and duration? What's the recuperation time after the procedure? How much work could I expect to miss? My email is Siobhan_Ra@hotmail.com is you would like to email me any information you have. Thanks for looking! -Jenn

Can I still eat Keto/LCHF after RNY or sleeve?
CrankyMagpie replied to 🅺🅸🅼🅼🅸🅴🅺's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
You can definitely do keto, but it might not be especially high fat for a while--most bariatric nutritionists seem to favor a low-fat, low-carb diet for new patients. And very few people get through the first few weeks without something artificial. (I relied on sugar-free jello, sugar-free popsicles, and SO MANY PROTEIN SHAKES.) If you're really dedicated, though, you could probably minimize most of that. For instance, Eggface suggests "double milk" (1 cup Milk mixed with 1/3 cup Nonfat Dry Milk Powder = 16 grams of protein per 8 oz. serving) as one option. Most plans won't force you to eat beans or fruit or high-carb veggies, though; the focus is very much on protein sources, mostly animal-based ones. If you're worried about dumping from high-fat keto, you might consider discussing the option of the sleeve instead of the bypass with your surgical team. (There are people with sleeves who experience dumping, but it's pretty rare.) But like Matt said, not everyone who goes bypass has a dumping problem from fat, either. -
Saw PCP today, Not supportive to go to Mexico
serenity1959 replied to becksnky's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
My gyno was a firm supporter from the outset. My PCP, not so much, initially. She has some RNY patients that come in frequently with stomach pain. However, when I told her several weeks before I left that I was having the surgery, she wasn't so negative. She now has some sleeve patients and has seen how well they have done. She still wasn't happy about the Mexico part, though. -
Saw PCP today, Not supportive to go to Mexico
dork replied to becksnky's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
After doing the research I printed out all of the info, drs credentials, everything I could find. He read over and said by all means go for it. He has seen me struggle the last 20 years. He told me to make an appt for 1 month after surgery. When he gave me his blessing I booked it right away, for 2 weeks later, giving me the time to do my preop and get plane tix. When I went back to him after that month, he said he saw me weigh in and was going to look over my shoulder. He was surprised at the weight I had lost since his visit. He checked my wounds and all was good. I was off the sugar meds...and now off my arthritus meds. I had no problems....I can't wait to go back and see him next month. My dr is a big supporter of weight loss and has walking programs for our town. He's got a great sense of humor and he's pretty cool. All is good. -

I am so there with you!!! I had lost 85 pounds and have gained back just over 20 in the past 2.5 to 3 months and I hate myself for it! I miss my size 16's!!! Granted, I'm thankful to still be much smaller than I was this time last year, but when I think of where I could be it makes me sick. I went this morning for a fill and made the decision to start over. No more will I give in to this awful cycle of feeling bad about myself, eating for comfort, and then feeling even worse. I feel like I just set myself up to fail over the last few months. I actually thought more than once, well, a size 16 is about the best I can probably do so I guess this is it... at my lowest I was 204 and now that seems so far away again. No more though!!! My doctor said it well this morning as I was leaving - welcome back on the "band" wagon, lol. Good luck!!!

Sorry it took so long for a reply! I went on vacation after my 3 week checkup! Tomorrow makes a month sleeved for me. I asked my doctor if there was such a thing as "drinking to much water" and he laughed and said he would never tell me something that wasn't true and told me to drink as much as I wanted. I have absolutely no problem hitting my goal of water unless I make it a problem and just don't drink enough that day lol

The less you have to lose, the slower it gets. But 10-12 lbs in 2 months is within the average range of 1-2lbs a week and is not slow.

@@jenengelmann Im sorry I mis-spoke, True Results charges are $75 per visit OR the 6 month plan where U pay $45 a month and Ur allowed unlimited visits & monthly xrays I had to get a slight unfill this week. Apparently I'd eaten something too heavy & began night coughing. She removed 1cc Thursday morning and Im eating and sleeping fine now I go back in two weeks. Praying I dont regain anything.

Hi all, I was banded on 9/20 and my doctor wanted me on Clear liquids for 3 weeks (up on 10/11). I went to see her yesterday and the visit took no more than 3 minutes (she diditn even look at my incisions) and gace me the following instructions "after your liquid you can go on to mushies for 4 weeks, then come back on 10/31 and we can discuss food". No talk about fills either. Is this insane????? is anyone else going thru something like this???? Its not like I want to eat a steak but I could barely get thru 2 weeks of liquids much less 4 weeks of mushies. Im down 30 pounds....happy about that!! Thanks.

Strange Instructions...
Rachel412 replied to RosyG72's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Did you know about this post-op eating plan before you had the surgery? I don't think it sounds soooo strange... different than what I had. but usually you don't have a fill until 6 weeks past surgery at the earliest... I DO think her brusqueness was weird! -
I guess each Dr. has different instructions based (hopefully) on patients. I was on fluids for 10 days, then mushies for 1 week, then onto food after. I would stick w. what your Dr. is telling you - if you feel that you can't do it - call them up and ask if you can move onto the next stage. Good Luck =)

Strange Instructions...
mint2bskiny replied to RosyG72's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
On my thick liquid stage I added Water or milk or Protein water to anything and blended it!! HAHA taht got me thru 2.5 weeks of liquids! And my mushies and soft stages lasteda bout 2-3 weeks also. At week 7 I got my first fill. it was tiny but i got a fill. lol. then every 2 weeks after that i went back to get more fills. I am at 5.5c amd very satisfied. it didnt take long for me to reach restriction. -
My 2 week post op "clear liquids" included protein shakes. Any kind of protein shakes, not just the clear ones made with water.

Congrats! My date is the first of march! SURGERY DAY: 3/1/17

Last week I had consultation with Dr. Salamatari. He seems to be a very down to earth person. I just wanted to know if anyone had a bad experience with him. My endoscoptomy is scheduled for Friday and my Pre Op will be scheduled right after but i have not been approved for the surgery yet. Is that the normal process? Please help!!!

I have learned that I can't expect weight loss results when eating for maintenance rather than weight loss (including carbs in my diet). Increasing fitness can help. Going back on Protein shakes (at the direction of my surgeon) for two weeks also really helped shrink things back.

Hi all, I'm very new to all this but I felt like I needed somewhere to go where people can relate. I had my lap band surgury on Aug. 9th. I went to Hamot in Erie PA. I had a wonderful experience there with my surgury and the staff. That's not the problem. I was 270 when I started out. I have only lost 20 pounds since. The band itself I feel is not the result of my weight loss. It was the grueling low calorie diet I was on before surgury and the 3 weeks of liquids after. I have had 3 fills with the last one being last week. I feel the hurt when I eat too fast or too much but I can still snack away. My doctor has now prescribed an appetite suppressant for me. It gives me a little energy boost and I am hoping for some results soon. Anyone had any similar problems? I have slipped up on the exercising and trying to eat better. I am trying to get back on track. I think I lost hope after so many months of no weight loss. Any suggestions?:help:

What type of surgery are you having? I had a regular LapBand at another place but with a surgeon that also uses SCOR....he kept me about 3 hrs after surgery. Unless they have worked something out by now, SCOR won't take insurance for fills (they are $150 cash), so I'm having to go to another clinic (I get them there for a co-pay each time).
