    Fruit

I ate fresh fruit around month 3 months after surgery. Usually watermelon at first as an afternoon snack. Then I added berries & grapes. I added some dried apricots to my rolled oats occasionally but found them too sweet. Check with your dietician though as fruit with seeds & coarse skin aren’t allowed in most plans for the first months. In maintenance I initially ate most any fruit again as an afternoon snack. Now I tend to only eat blueberries with my rolled oats at breakfast & rarely any other fruit though with summer coming I’ll probably have some cherries & lychees. Fruit is my main source of sugar cause I cut so much out of my eating. Eating really only one serve of fruit a day is my personal choice not because I can’t.

    Starting my ESG journey!

Hello, I am scheduled for ESG on Monday and I'm getting nervous. I previously had VSG about 8 years ago and have regained about half of what I lost....I am on the lower end of the BMI, but have hashimotos and PCOS so its impossible for me to loose weight. This is the only thing that has worked. I already eat super low carb and my diet isn't the problem. I belelive it's from my stomach stretching out. Anyways, I am so nervous for the two weeks of the liquid diet and feeling hungry through that time. Did you guys experience hunger? I'll get shaky and a little hypoglycemic so I'm dreading this part. It gives me comfort to read your experiences and am thankful to have this platform to ask questions on! Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

    Fruit

I have only just had enough room in my tummy for fruit. I struggle with skins so peel everything. So, grapes are off my menu, no time to peel a grape. I eat 4 or 5 small meals a day and to up my calories and give me more energy, I drink a homemade milkshake every day. I still like banana and peanut butter in my milk. Breakfast is a protein yogurt with raspberries, or porridge and banana. My fav small snack is a sliced peeled apple with an ounce of cheese. I have always eaten loads of healthy fruit. I tend to buy what they label kids fruit, small apples or small snack packs of cut fruits. A normal pack means lots get wasted. No food is off my menu if I can stomach it. Will I ever eat rice, noodles or pasta again? I don't know this. I don't want to be on a diet anymore. I just want to keep my restriction to limit me.
  4. Yup. I did. I lost about 170 around 8/9 years ago and had about 17 lbs of skin removed. Surprise surprise: Got fat again, fatter actually. Had bypass this year, it was a non issue. Recovery was easy peasy too.
  5. Hi Friends, New here…I am wondering if anyone has had experience with having any laparoscopic surgeries after getting a tummy tuck. I had an abdominoplasty in 2013 after having a child and losing weight and having a lot of extra skin. Now almost 10 years later I am looking into having a gastric sleeve done. Looking for anyone with experience. Was it harder for the surgeon due to scar tissue or things moved around? Thanks in advance.
  6. So far I haven't noticed people treating me differently. I have read and heard on MANY occasions females tend to get more attention or treated kinder in general by the public but I haven't noticed it for me. probably because I am still fat even after loosing 150 lbs. haha I do however notice I treat myself differently, unintentionally. Pre-op I would wear big clothes, to "hide" my fat body. Always jeans and a tshirt, and always preferred the tshirt loose. Now, post-op and 150 lbs less, I noticed it annoys me when my clothes are too big or loose. If my jeans are falling off, I am anxious to buy smaller ones. I like my tshirts more fitting. I also notice, I tend to migrate more towards "non" tshirts too. (I don't know what to call them..hah blouse?) Probably because I actually look smaller when things fit, and I can see the change massively!
  7. did you notice people treating you different after loosing weight ? good, bad, crazy?? family? coworkers? acquaintances? i have lost 100 lbs but just kinda proportionally shrunk a little, not huge transformation yet. (skin is starting to be a little jiggly instead of tight on my fat and a slight reduction to my many chins) so haven’t experienced a big difference, yet! what have you experienced?
  8. good goal to have for you!!!!! hope you can reach it as easy as possible i got a long road ahead of me - i would love to loose about 160 more to be under 200… some days i think that’s waaay too low after how far i was… sometimes i think “aim for the stars, ya never know what might happen;)”
  9. Hahaha my my ass and boons are not a glimpse of what they use to be!!!! I didn’t end up with to much loose skin either. I do work out too try to a minimum of 3 days week.
  10. Greetings, Going to celebrate out loud today! I have lost 100 lbs from my July 2021 highest recorded weight and all in PRE op!!! 85.8 Lbs in 2022! Damn, this has been hard. A lot of emotional and behavioral change went into this effort. A lot of re-education about nutrition and choices. A lot of forgiving myself for getting to this weight. A lot of healing. A lot of journaling. A lot of reminding myself that I am worth taking care of. It also has been easier than I thought. Once I gained the confidence that I could, I did. Yes, I have had doctor support and taking Ryselbus helped, but mostly this is me making true and long lasting change. I am comforted by the fact that if for some reason I could not have the sleeve surgery on November 3rd, 2022, I would still loose weight and feel better and my LIFE would be better. Everyone has this in them. Its a tough road, but we can all achieve better in our lives.
  11. Hello, sorry to hear your struggle. I know of a few people dealing with this. Do you track your foods? Maybe you are not eating as many calories as you think? If not, try tracking for a while and keep adding calories until you stop loosing? Just a suggestion. Good luck.

    Anyone for October 2020?

I settled around 135-140. I get obscenely tired if I eat bad food, too much, or too fast - like so tired I literally feel like I will die if I don’t lie down!!! I feel like it is my version of “dumping”. I avoid high fat and sugary foods on work days to keep this from happening at work. When I eat too many carbs over a few days I get very lethargic. If something isn’t going to agree with me I start burping and get the hiccups within about 5 mins. I cannot eat ice cream 😭😭😭 It is the only sweet food so far that I cannot touch without feeling like death! Not even a bite or two. Also, I need to have a drink with electrolytes twice a day. I have noticed a huge difference in my mood and energy level when I don’t have them. I drink 60-90oz a day. I didn’t end up with much loose skin, but my boobs hang super low haha 😂 . I also have “four butt” (like four boob, but on my butt). Any underwear I put on has part of my cheeks inside and then the rest of it hanging below the panty line. Four butt cheeks 🤣. A guy in my support group developed bad dumping syndrome between 2 and 2.5 years out. He said he could only eat 12 grams of sugar in one sitting or else he would dump. You may want to check how much you’re having - you may still be able to eat some sugar if you count it out.
  14. Thanks for the responses… to some of you… I don’t drink. It was a question just to hear the answer to when I asked it and was shocked that the answer was NEVER and I was just trying to figure out the true why….. Thanks for the supportive and factual answers to my concern. I will loose zero sleep not being able to have a drink…..

    August surgery buddies!

Well I’m down 50lb, and feeling wonderful. Only thing is I cannot eat according to what I was told. Same with liquids. I crave very cold water and ice pops. I recently started fruits like grapes and pineapple. But other than that I’m stuck with one egg and 2 meatballs max. Health benefits are worth it though. I’m down to a large loosely. Be encouraged everyone and we must learn and maintain discipline.

    Regained it all

be proud that you know you need to act and are reaching out! life is hard and we all need to start again sometimes. how long ago was your surgery? what eating style made you successful in loosing weight last time ? what do you think your biggest issue is that is causing weight gain ?
  17. HI all, My sister is planning on having the gastric sleeve procedure done in Mexico in a few months. I am going to go with her and I am considering liposuction. Basically, surgery buddies, but different procedures. I know a lot of bariatric patients end up needing some surgery for loose skin, etc. But I'm not sure which practices provide both. Does anybody have any experience with a bariatric place in Mexico that also provides plastic surgery? Thanks, Kelly
  18. Hi everyone just checking in since all of us have or are near our 2 year anniversary date. Started at 220 I stopped loosing weight current weight fluctuates 146-140 My eating habits have been pretty much the same eating every 2-3 hrs and my drinking of fluids is about 40-50 oz some days more some days not even close but try to stay on track with that as I noticed when I don’t drink enough fluids I eat more junk. Started to develop dumping síndrome or what ever it might be but mid morning I have to rush to Amy bathroom afraid of an accident :( How’s everyone else????

    September surgery buddies!!

I’m pretty short so I’ll probably have lots of skin but that’s another problem for another day lol. Hope you are doing good and thank you for responding- it’s so nice to share this journey
  20. You are a pretty low weight so your journey may be a bit slower. In some ways the slower journey is better because you may not have as much skin.

What is wrong with the medical system

I can relate to this on so many levels. I went to the ER with a blinding headache once and was told once that I was not going to be given the drugs I was looking for. Fortunately the neurologist I saw at the time was on call came down and saved the nurse from my temper. I could only see out of one eye and she wanted to send me out the door with a Tylenol. The neurologist snorted at that and loaded me up with with the rescue protocol for my pain. My surgeon who did my gastric bypass insists the issues I've run into are all anxiety. I had to push for testing because I know something was wrong...yeah, I have a staple line ulcer and a slightly twisted ulcer. She wouldn't answer my questions. Atleast my GI doctor did. By far though was when I was pregnant. This damn near killed both me and my daughter. Because I could stop vomiting, I was losing a lot of weight quickly. Yet the chief of the residents clinic insisted that I didn't need nutritional support. At one point I started having pain and my skin took on a yellow tone...that was gallstones. The surgeon was furious that I was essentially being starved, called the residents clinic and made it known how unacceptable it was. I was admitted and 5 days later had a feeding tube in my chest. I went into labor early and labor/delivery insisted I didn't need to be seen because I wasn't in pain. Thankfully a medical assistant wasn't having any of it and pushed for an exam. Yes, I was in labor and they had to rush me because my fluid levels were low and my daughter was very breached. The OB/GYN said had I not gotten in as soon as I did, my daughter would have died and I might have too from further complications.

    Food confusion

I found the standards I was given were quite strict and still reasonable. These are used Provence wide here and I found little deviation to different plans offered by other hospitals here in Ontario. My hospital is involved with The University of Toronto medical school as several hospitals are all involved together. A large group or team gives me confidence in their work and structure they offered me. I was also given the option to vary my plan slightly but I personally recommend being a bit more strict with yourself and allow your body to transition and heal. Time and your body mechanics will tell you when to progress. It is a long journey we are all in. I spent 30 years being fat and unhealthy and I will not loose the weight in fast succession. It will take lots of effort and time to make real permanent changes. I wish you all the best on your weight loss journey to better health. From Canada Cheers!
  23. I feel your pain. I’m maintaining between 214-220 lbs at 1000-1200 calories. There really isn’t anything to cut out and still be healthy. I’m fighting to stay at this by logging meals, measuring but not being totally obsessed. The goal all along has to be as healthy as I can be, not wearing a bikini or posting on popular social media. I hope your health choices are what you can live with long term. That’s what I ask myself too, every day. Are you mobile, in reasonable health, can you continue to do the active things you love with people who love you? Is your health limiting your job choices? I feel that this is something that we don’t talk about enough on here. What happens when you stop loosing weight and you are not at goal, and the calories are as low as you can reasonably eat? I think this happens more often than gets posted.

    Spatial awareness

I pick up shirts now and I instantly think there's no way it will fit. haha We went to a show over the weekend and I wanted a shirt. I asked for a XL and when I picked it up to look at I was like that's not fitting but I will get it for later. haha I went home and put it on and SURPRISE! It fit, a little tighter than I would probably wear because of my skin rolls but another 10 lbs and it will be perfect! PS: I was a 3-5X depending on cut. So exciting to know I am almost out of the "X"s. haha
  25. Don't panic. 1500 calories is not a lot. If you are still loosing (even slower) then you are fine. If you are comfortable where you are and stop loosing, then you are fine. Either way, just try it an adjust. Everyone is different and there are so many factors to take in account. My Dietician told me at my last apt that I will most likely be around 2000-2200 calories (very tall) once I get to maintenance! I eat around 1000-1200 a day now and on the higher end days I am munchy and having snacks. I am already trying to figure out how I would double that. It makes me worry about eating more high calorie foods or more snacks and then spiraling out of control. I am trying not to over think it as I am still a bit away from that point. My point is, I understand your worries but slow down and take it day to day. You can do it, hell, you already have.
