    5 weeks post op

Frozen yogurt Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  2. I am almost 5 weeks post-op and have been having trouble with eggs, hummus, Greek yogurt, oatmeal, protein shakes it seems just about anything that I eat. My stomach does this sickening feeling which causes me not to want to eat. I have only been able to take in 100-250 calories on a good day and that's if I eat crackers and peanut butter. That's the only thing that doesn't make me feel sick. I need help!! I want to be able to eat more.
  3. Well just wondering how those of you who have started their pre-op are doing? I don't "officially" start until Monday but, I did try it today and whoah boy was it hard! I think my biggest problem is drinking plenty of water. I'm not an extremely busy person but I am VERY forgetful and I plain forget to drink. My pre-op diet is not as strict as some I have to have 4 servings of protein drink 2 w/ milk, 2 w/out. The ones not mixed with milk are TOTALLY disgusting I have to choke it down! I''m also allowed low carb yogurt, SF jello, SF pudding, unsweetened applesauce, tomato juice, certain raw veggies, and cream of wheat. I can't do tomato juice or the cream of wheat, I've tried and it's just nasty. I was starving and ended up eating dinner with my kids. It's no biggie as I'm not supposed to officially start until Monday but am worried I won't make it without cheating and I REALLY don't want to cheat but DAMN I was starving most of the day today! So I was wondering how some of you are doing and if you making it through and HOW?!LOL!

    How's the pre-op going?

Breaking the need to eat something crunchy is a bit odd for me on this diet. I am a crunch-o-holic. I am hanging in there because the end result will be well worth it but crunchy would be nice. My diet is mostly liquid with a bit of fruit, yogurt, and cottage cheese. Rather boring but doing the trick.
  5. Make sure you are on the solid proteins if your diet allows. Yogurts, ricotta and all that are slider foods. I was told by docs office to get solid proteins in with three meals and that has made all the difference. I think we are still figuring this thing out as I had my surgery 2,weeks before u... Learning what works and what doesn't. Drinking water helps also and I had to up my carb intake ( complex) to curb hunger and do more exercise to speed metabolism and burn it off.

haha I'm glad I'm not the only one! I think that no matter what, I'll always be a foodie...I just love extravagant meals and really want to start taking cooking seriously, so I can't wait until I can eat solid foods! I've actually never had any prior interest in cooking, but I think refraining from "normal" foods for so long really helps you to appreciate all their individual qualities. I did a 2-week pre-op diet and now I'm starting the second week of my post-op clear liquid diet (I can only have diet, non-caffienated fluids and the protein shakes they provided me). I suppose I'm getting restless because all the pain/nausea from last week is gone and I'm starting to feel more "normal." I never thought I'd be SO excited over the thought of yogurt and vegetable juice haha I'm also looking forward to cheese and refried beans we'll get there somedaayyyy

    Question

Yeah all dr's seem to be different. I'm 3 1/2 weeks out and I'm still on mostly liquid. My dr wants me to be on that until next week. I've been trying things though here and there. I've found that I seem to be now lactose intolerant to the non-fat milk products like yogurt. Which bums me out because I love milk etc. I have been trying beans, eggs, and I tried a bit of potato. I know others are usually on the full mushy or soft stage by now. I honestly think it depends on your body as well

God, yes... I could not WAIT to get to mushies and have the refried Beans with taco sauce and a little cheese. I craved it, and it's not something I'd normally have on a regular basis. What saved me from all the sweet stuff during the liquid phase were the Soups, particularly tomato. Tomato Soup with a dollop of Greek yogurt was pure heaven for me for those couple of weeks.... are you on clears still, or on full liquids yet?
  10. when i was first banded i was filled to 3.4 before i had any restriction. the BOTTOM line is you keep getting fills (and following rules) till you have the desired amount of restriction. my dr made me wait 2-3 weeks between fills. it may take several more fills! the last fill i had (tuesday) i got .1 fill and i went from eating three eggs for Breakfast or one of those jumbo 1 inch thick porkchops to yogurt for breakfast and 4 oz meat with small side of veggies and that was from .1 cc.
  11. My top choice was guacamole made with Greek yogurt. Ate it with a spoon. Refried Beans with cheese Very soft scrambled eggs with cheese Hummus (yes, another dip I ate with a spoon) Mashed potatoes with FF gravy (made with skim milk and sour cream, hardly any nutritional value, but oh so good) Tuna salad mashed to almost a puree Crab bisque

    May 6th Surgery Stories

So do we all think the biggest incision is where the port is? I thought that as well. Mine is RIGHT in the middle of my stomach, maybe slightly to the right I guess. It's not on my waistline. I wonder why he did it right there in the middle? I pressed on it a little bit to see if I could feel it but I couldn't. (it doesn't really hurt) I feel tons better today though. I haven't been able to really eat, I haven't been hungry at ALL until this morning. My stomach was actually rumbling! I am slowly eating yogurt with a half a scoop of Protein powder in it, it doesn't taste very good but I hope it helps me get some energy up. I have done great with the walking even though it leaves me completely exhausted, but I haven't been as good about drinking as I wanted to be. I will work on that today though. For those that haven't gone yet, just know that 48 hours post-op I feel soooo much better that I can actually say that I don't regret my decision. Not that I ever did regret it, but I was pretty upset right after I had the surgery. I just think I wasn't fully prepared for the pain and I didn't know what to expect. Had someone told me, "You will feel like CRAP, but it WILL get better and you WILL feel better after a couple of days" then I think I would have been in better spirits for these past couple of days. Live and learn, though. Hopefully someone can learn from my oversight!

1 week post op, need advice/help...

I was just curious because my nutritionist doesn't want me using milk for my Protein Shakes. She has me using unsweetened almond milk. I have my surgery scheduled for the 1st and I was immediately thinking "I hope this doesn't happen to me!" as soon as I read your post and then I realized that a week out from surgery, I probably wouldn't even be eating anything with lactose, so I wouldn't know yet if it had happened to me. I am allowed drinkable yogurt a few days post op though, so maybe that will tip me off.
  14. Wow, I really overdid it today. Went back to work, then had to leave after 3 hours. So faint I couldn't stand, sweaty, weak. I had 2 glasses of water, Greek yogurt, and a few sips of protein drink early in the morning, but it was bad. Went home and slept for a couple of hours and had a nice lunch (bean purée, a bite of cream soup) and I'm feeling better now. Keeping the water up so I don't get dehydrated. Anyone else overdo it?

What is the FAST TRACK PASS ?

I have yogurt, oatmeal, and mashed up chicken noodle soup as my 3 meals, then I drink Water and maybe 1 Protein drink between meals.Start with very smooth purees like yogurt and then go thicker and thicker as you get more accustomed. If you don't like broth, buy Campbell's chicken noodle soup and just strain out the noodles, tastes much better IMO. Also cream of chicken is pretty good.

    Any vegetarian breakfast ideas?

Hi! I am 6 months post sleeve. I have been having protein shakes for breakfast since I was sleeved, but my dr isn't a fan of shakes and wants me to try to eat real food. He also believes in low carb and no white stuff. I get sick of eggs quickly. And while my sleeve and I are getting along fairly well she gets a little testy in the morning so I can't eat anything too heavy. Also my dr doesn't want me to eat anything mushy like oatmeal or yogurt. Anyone have any ideas? I am nut-less because the one I had was useless. Thanks.

    Constipation

I didn't have a BM for a week after getting home from surgery - was advised to increase my milk intake and that seemed to work. Then nothing for 5 days or so, so once on puréed foods I puréed some prunes and had them mixed with natural yogurt for Breakfast and that worked. Now I have them every other day or so, as I prefer natural remedies to laxatives etc.

    Doctor Prescribed Shakes

My shakes (unjury) cost a little over a dollar a serving and they tasted pretty good too. I got the canisters instead of the packets. The thing that I also don't like is the fact its powder form so I have to mix them. That is so inconvenient!!Sent from my SM-G935T using the BariatricPal App Not really. You have lots more control of the texture. You them with raw juice and ice instead of milk and control the sweetness. And best of all you have the option of unflavored powder that you can mix with Soup, yogurt and cottage cottage cheese to boost the Protein without changing the taste.

    Phase 3 foods

plain nonfat green Yogurt, sometimes I mix with sugar free jello, cottage cheese (I put in a little pineapple juice to make it taste better), eggs! including hard boiled, over easy, omelette, and scrambled. snack pack sugar free chocolate pudding, tomato soup, ricotta cheese and jello (make sugar free jello and just when it is starting to set, put in blender with 16 oz of low fat ricotta cheese and blend--put in container(s)--great treat!!!)
  20. Don't worry about any of that stuff at three weeks. I think you're doing fine for now. I certainly was not doing many veggies and fruits or fiber at that point. And 5 ounces of mushies is fine. No problem. But real, hard, dense food would probably be a challenge. Mostly, just do right now what your team is asking you to do. And no, 800 calories a day is not too much right now IMHO. Just trust me when I say that a year out you'll be able to eat as much as I am. A typical day looks like this: Breakfast - Protein shake (I still love GNC Lean 25 shakes) Morning snack - Wasa crackers, cheddar cheese lunch - turkey / cheese sandwich (on whole-grain bread); baby raw carrots Afternoon snack - sliced apple, cheddar cheese dinner - grilled salmon brushed with BBQ sauce, green Beans, brown rice, 4 ounces chardonnay Dessert - blueberries and peach, Greek vanilla yogurt (The above is just a simple, healthy way to eat, without spending all day cooking or meal-planning) For now, just focus on eating as well as you can for the phase you're in. Dream about being slim and healthy. (I still dream about that, and then wake up and find I'm living the dream!)

    Week 3 stall?

It sounds counterintuitive, but increasing your caloric intake with healthy choices can help to break a stall. I saw weight loss again after adding in an afternoon smoothie made with protein powder or high-protein yogurt like Fage. Your body needs to have a sufficient amount of calories to function properly. The stall is sort of like your body's way of taking a break after running a marathon. Try to be patient and keep the faith. Almost everyone has the "dreaded three week stall." For some it's very brief, and for others it lasts a month. Most of us do then resume weight loss.
  22. Just wanted to say hello and that this has been one of the most challenging things for me. At this point I'm sipping on fluids, soups in protein shakes every 15 minutes. It hurts a little sometimes a little bit more going down in my chest area. Trying to incorporate that applesauce and plain yogurt since last night. Hope all is well for everyone on this journey.
