    February 2019 weight loss buds

I know I would be able to increase the amount I can eat. I have to be vigilant making sure I keep portions low or I don’t lose. I’m not sure if it’s because I’m a revision or some other stupid reason. Froufrou- I seem to have to keep calories low, between 600-700 to lose well. I may do better if I were even lower, but I can’t seem to get it lower and get 50-60g of protein. I think I’m going to buy the unflavored Genpro powder since I hear it has 30g of protein and only 60 calories for about a tablespoon and is nearly tasteless. As far a what you’re supposed to be eating...protein first, then veggies and they say carbs last, but I don’t do a starch on my plate as a rule. I have however had the tiny corn tortillas in street tacos a couple of times. I think they have 7 carbs in each one. Street tacos come with 2 tortillas and I have tossed one, so only eating one of them but honestly they are a waste of calories/carbs without much nutritional benefit. We are supposed to only be eating things that have good nutritional benefits at this point. I am finding that I have to stay focused or I will push the boundaries far enough to just maintain my weight. I have a hard time with my fat brain at night, urging me to eat something, never bad stuff, just yogurt or cheese and almonds, but still calories I don’t need because I’m not hungry and definitely don’t need to eat before going to sleep. It’s an ongoing struggle for sure.
  2. Getting my surgery tomorrow. Gastric bypass starting at 210 I'm 4'11 So excited any tips for the hospital bag?
  3. I had sleeve to bypass April 4. No dumping but I’ve watched my sugar and fat intake. I’m sure it’ll happen eventually once I move to solids next week. Just try and avoid processed sugar, period. And other sugar intake like fruit. I got a little out of it and almost sweaty when I had a low sugar yogurt too quickly. Passed in a couple minutes with no additional symptoms.
  4. I am super stoked that I am Revising from VSG to RNY this coming Friday. I am not doing it for weight loss alone. I have terrible bleeding reflux and 2 hiatal hernias. I am optimistic this will fix if not eliminate the majority of these issues. After the VSG I experienced esophageal strictures as well as 2 bowel obstructions. Ready for the VSG nightmare to be over!
  5. Is there a specific amount of weight needed? Maybe your BMI is too high for SLEEVE but not for RNY BYPASS?
  6. one of the reasons is that at a hospital where he works, they don't do bypass since they don't have the thoracic surgeon. One has to be around since bypass is a very risky surgery. That's why I would like to hear what people who experienced it think.
  7. Yes! I have exactly the same problem. I am 4 weeks out and no longer able to tolerate purees or liquids. Constantly feel like I am going to throw up. Saw my Surgeon's PA yesterday who ordered an emergency upper GI series and it turns out I have a stricture!! They are going to do an endoscopy on Tuesday to try to stretch the opening between my pouch and intestines. I had RNY gastric bypass btw. Don't wait, call surgeon's office Monday if you're not feeling better. Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app
  8. I decided to go with the sleeve. One because I just kinda didnt like the idea of having my insides rearranged (but removing them is ok [emoji848]). And 2, I have a friend that had bypass and she kind of wishes she had the sleeve. Sent from my SM-G965U using BariatricPal mobile app
  9. Definitely a long road, but it gave me a chance to make a lot of necessary changes. I also had a chance to read info on this site, listen to WLS podcasts, watch many episodes of 600 lb Life, so Ive seem the good and bad sides to surgery. It's a lot to think about. But I feel ready. Which surgery are you having? I originally was hoping to get sleeved, but my bariatric rn is a bypass patient herself, and she convinced me to get rny too. date nights

My surgery was on April 23 and I am feeling great (compared to what I expected). I had lap band done in 2009 and did great with it....until I didn't (it slipped). I decided to have a revision to the sleeve. My husband has been very supportive throughout the whole process. Tonight while I was talking post op diet with him, he kind of "confessed" that he was worried that we were not going to enjoy our nights-out ever again. Our kids are leaving the nest and we were enjoying our date nights and trying different restaurants around town. I think he was enjoying the feeling of DATING AGAIN! lol! So to help ease his mind, can I get someone to weigh in on what it will look like for us to eat out from this point on? (after the liquids are done of course). Will it be similar to lap band? If so, I was able to eat out and enjoy myself. Can I enjoy a glass of wine with my man? Some of the posts we have read are almost like, "FAREWELL FOOD, we are breaking up!" Like food isn't going to be a part of my life anymore. I know logically that isn't true, but I'd love to hear what those of you who are 6+ months post op are eating at restaurants? I'm traveling to the Bahamas when I will be 2 months out... will I be able to eat there?
  11. And I , my little friend, am 8 months a week from Monday, a RNY bypass, and I have not dumped even once. Oh perhaps I have led a charmed life that it hasn't happened. But I used to have an appetite that knew no bounds. I would watch TV with a Family sized bag of Conn's. Honey +bar-b-que chips and eat them all. Conn's is one of our Central Ohio brands, cheaper, thinner chips, no saturated fats in their oil. Head office I believe is Zanesville Ohio. The fact that are so well made does not excuse the fact I ate too many at one sitting. At any rate I do not have a raging appetite any more,in fact I truly have no desire,to eat. Nothing really sounds good, oh I do have my soups, varying from bone broths clear up to my cheesy soup. Usually make it with potatoes, last time I put broccoli in it instead. Made my dietician groan but my pouch and I like that kind of stuff. I add Genepro protein to items I think don't have enough naturally. And depending on next blood draw, we will see if I have any deficencies vitamin -wise. I had an Iron infusion in March, need to see if that's holding or will I require another? PCP said I might have them every 90 days, but it all depends on how. blood levels are.

I’m scheduled for revision May 3rd. Mint makes my Gerd ten times worse. I love my sleeve and did so well with the weight loss but the GERD is brutal. Very nervous about the Bypass.

    Bypass v’s Sleeve..... help!

I got my RNY surgery on April 1st. Im very heavy and I'm short so thats what I needed for optimum weight loss. My bariatric surgeon told me that they do tons of sleeve to bypass surgeries because the sleeves fail for multiple reasons. My sister in law got the sleeve 2 years ago and had major complications with strictures. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G890A using BariatricPal mobile app
  18. Hello everyone, My group health insurance did not purchase the writer for the surgery. I can not do self pay.. or take out another loan. Has anyone purchased their own plan to cover it. I read there are advocates out there but have no idea how to find one. The weightloss center I looked at won't even see me for a consult/write a letter on my behalf without either $500 out of pocket or with insurance. This is frustrating as I have battled weight for most of my life. My dad and his sister have both had gastric bypass and medical conditions associated with obesity. I just want to find a way to make this surgery possible. Any info you guys could give me to assist with the insurance end of it will be appriciated. Thanks, Musicsings14
  19. Should still be some active on here, perhaps they will see your post and answer back. I'm only a bariatric cousin myself, a 73 year old RNY bypass last September 5th.

    June 2019!!! Surgery Siblings!!!

It will, it will, I am 73 , a gastric bypass of less than a year, have lost 130 pounds from my highest weight, 97 pounds since surgery last September 5th. And I would have sworn it would never happen, I just couldn't diet and keep it off, Lord a Mercy, I did try, should have been awarded an Effort Trophy. But I am sure doing it now, don't even look like me anymore since I lost my round moon face. But I will be something special when I am through, no big thing if I start resembling my dead relatives, they are in no state to complain. So June will be the Wonder month for you all, and we will all cheer you on!
  21. Just got back from the OA meeting. It isn't for me. It was completely nonreligious and I gleaned that at least half the group were atheists. BUT, none had had gastric bypass and I did feel judgment. They said that they do not like the surgery because through OA if I had done that first and worked the steps, I wouldn't have needed the surgery and could have conquered the food addiction without medical intervention. They shared stories and talked about their struggles with eating now, but I don't share the same issues because this surgery has forced me into a healthy eating lifestyle. So our issues don't quite mesh. They are working on getting to where I already am by virtue of "cheating" and having surgery. I am looking for one on one advice with maintenance for when I have any weak moments. They do not give advice. They just read from the book (and I can't focus when someone reads) and share what they struggled with recently. But no one responds with advice. It seems kind of useless imo. Anyways, I gave it a shot. Not for me. Sent from my SM-G930R4 using BariatricPal mobile app

Slimband - Cuts off TLBC Patients

I too....banded in 2008.....band started to fail me about 5-6 years later....no support from clinic....same was what many of you are stating. I want justice and revision surgery. Sickens me that Dr Yau is rolling in his millions laughing with a slight slap to his hand while we all suffer.
  23. Hi-- All too familiar to me... I was a TLBC patient in Jan 2008.....MIDBAND band put in...major pain in left shoulder immediately following surgery.....no support from clinic....was successful loosing weight initially....but at the 5-6 year mark started to gain back. Have now gained 60% of weight back. Clinic now under new branding..etc will not support. I found Dr Yau a couple of years ago....got a referral...I have issues with heartburn/indigestion/pain in left lower abdomen...etc. He did agree to see me....literally yelled at me in his office saying the band is the not failure...that I am the failure and that I need to learn how to eat....bla bla bla...and that I needed to get serious and take a look at my life and stop blaming the band for what I am doing wrong. I was devastated and in tears. He agreed to do a scope - which was a waste of my time...all I heard was that I was fine and needed to learn how to eat healthy. That was the end. So now I have a failed band....I am unhappy....don't feel great most of the time....and can not get fills/defills and have this device now that I can't do anything with. I am interested in revision surgery but really can't put any more money into this. Do any of you fell Ontarians have any advice? This has cost so much.....the cost to myself both financially and emotionally....and the stress on my marriage...etc. This man should be ashamed of himself. I hope he has trouble sleeping at night while he rolls on his millions of dollars which is likely stashed in his mattress.

    Another surgery?

So are you going to have the bypass now?? I think you should do whatever is best for you no matter what they think.

    Need Sleeve revision but..,

I think that it All depends if it is deemed medically necessary or not. Are you having any issues like GERD? Or just feel like you would lose more with bypass?
