    Need Fiber! Help!

Hi. I eat whole grain breads - I prefer those made at Panera or Atlanta Bread. Generally, I ditch the soft bread part and eat the crust. Sometimes toasted works OK. Also, I mix wheat germ into my yogurt and have added ground flax seed to my protein shakes. Steph
  2. I return to work next week going into my 6th week....here's my plan. I plan on taking a Starkist Tuna pouches, small bottle of mayo, homemade chili, boiled eggs, yogurt, protein shakes and/or protein bars, crystal light or something similar for my water, small container of fruit. I can't think of anything else at the moment.

    Hello mushies!

And to think I was excited to step up to creamier Soups, yogurt, and runny oatmeal tomorrow!! Congrats to you!! Have fun.
  4. My pre-op diet was 2 weeks of Protein shakes 3 times a day with 1 Greek yogurt snack, sugar free Jello, and broth. I started early by drinking 1 shake per day for 3 days, then 2 shakes per day for 3 days, then the 3 per day just so I could work up to it. It was still difficult the first 3 days of it, but not as bad if I had not prepared. I'm 1 week post-op now, and still on this diet for 1 more week. I am going to be so glad to see pureed food lol. But I have lost 40 lbs so it pays off. Good luck, and I don't think it's stupid. Sent from my SM-G935V using the BariatricPal App
  5. I was banded on Friday, 12/11. The vicodin made me extremely nauseated and as I'm not supposed to vomit, I didn't take it. The gas pain in my shoulder was bad but it is tolerable. The worst is the pain in my right side. It feels like my guts are being ripped out (sorry if that's too graphic.) I also had trouble breathing but that is getting better. I am coughing all the time though and when I cough it kills me - on the right side. I can't bend over to pick anything up. Also, I couldn't tell if I was hungry or full but now I'm starving! I'm afraid to eat too much as I don't want to get sick. I was on clear liquids but today was supposed to start full liquids. My doctor says no jello (says it will get stuck) and didn't mention anything about pudding but others say they do pudding so I'm confused. When I do eat, it isn't keeping me full long enough, I don't think. I'm supposed to be doing something every hour (water, protein shake, juice, milk, gatorade, yogurt, broth, creamed soup, etc.) I am just overwhelmed by this whole situation......

    Fairy tale

It really does take alot of planning. I am one of those people that eats every 2-3 hours. Something with Protein. Baby bel lights, greek yogurt, chicken, fish.. I have never counted calories but my fitness pal says I average between 700-900 calories a day. I strive to get 75-90 g of protein. I have now gotten mFP set on 1000 cal. Strive to hit that to stop the weight loss and even things out. I tried swimming and weight training. But walking has been the thing for me. I started... or should I say struggled with a mile at first... slow going. Now I do about 4 miles a day and average about a 13 minute mile walking. So pretty fast pace or at least for me it is. Exercise... find what works for you because if you hate it you wont do it and I believe it is a key part to this whole process. Again thanks you guys for all your kind words!!
  7. Gnc makes one. I put it in w fruit and greek yogurt and cant taste it
  8. I'm really liking yogurt right now. I eat the yoplait light and the carbmasters from kroger. The carbmasters have 8g of protein which is really awesome since I don't like greek yogurt. I also made some broccolli and cheese soup, it was super yummy but I could only eat 3 bites lol.
  9. Hello Fellow Banders! I was banded on the 31st of July and I have some questions. My Dr. told me to drink clear liquids for 2 days and then full liquids for one week. How much do you all drink? I was calculating my calories and it is under 500 a day. Does that seem normal for that first week? I am drinking either my Designer Whey protein drink, my optifast shake or yogurt or 1% milk. All of these he listed as approved on my discharge sheet. I also have s/f popsicle on occassion. I usually only have 3 meals/drinks a day since that is what is listed. So why I am REALLY asking? That dang scale is not going down. I lost 17 lbs before surgery during the same type of liquid diet. I have lost 4 since surgery and I am just saying that it seems awfully strange that I haven't seen a larger drop. Is my body in starvation mode? I am not really hungry enough to drink MORE during those 3 meals so what do you all suggest? I am really looking for some ideas on the subject. I appreciate it!
  10. Hi Cami, I was banded July2 and when I was on full liquids, my Dr. says we should have 6 meals a day (of liquids). This includes 3 or 4 of those being a protein shake and then either soup, yogurt, sf/ff pudding. It sounds like you might not be getting enough calories for the day. Try calling your nutritionist. And I know they say we should be drinking 64 oz of water a day but that almost seems impossible to me. I drank as often as I could....maybe it added up to 40 or 45 oz a day and I did fine with that. Good luck to you!

    Let's talk food

My first food in that stage was a scrambled egg. Low fat Greek yogurt went well too and still does (I'm early in the "soft diet" phase-- my RNY was 1/16). Puréed cauliflower it just a tiny bit after Protein. Really super duper mashed canned salmon with a bit of low fat mayo. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I just started my soft food so a lot of yogurt, fish, an sometimes backed chicken. An I found some shakes that I could make to make protein easier to get in

    Mushy Ideas....

HI there I understand what you mean about getting bored with mushies. I was the same way. Something that I tried was the blenderized tuna or chicken. I was really apprehensive about it but it wasnt bad and still kept the same flavor. Also try cream of wheat or mashed potatoes. If you like yogurt that can also go down well too. hope that helps and congrats on your recent banding =) Lach
  14. My band was placed on Dec. 29 2010. I wasn't told how much to eat, only to eat full liqiuds. Now I'm seeing other sites( and this one) talk about only 1/2 cup at each meal. Is this right? I've been able to take down more than 1/2 cup with no problems. If I have 1/3 of my protein shake, a cup of soup or a cuo of yogurt and maybe some jello at one meal, I'm fine. I'm full at that point. Then I eat the same at the other 2 meals. But maybe I'm full and eating more than I should. I can't tell. The first four days, I was full and not experiencing any hunger,. Now I'm beginning to be hungry in between meals. I think.. I'm finding it hard to know if I'm really humgry or not. Should I be eating less? Is the 1/2 cup a meal I'm reading about just for when I get to solid foods? I've been losing 2 lbs a day since surgery, but today I had gained 1 lb. I don't have my follow-up appt. until Jan. 7th. I'm afraid of being hungry in between meals. Leigh

I don't know if I'm full or not!

1/2 cup is for when you are on food, not for liquids. You can have full protein shakes. You should have 3-4 full protein shakes a day. Drink the shakes first because they have protein then supplement with jello or yogurt. There is no restriction in your band right now, till you get a fill, so that's why you can put more in it. Call your surgeon, or nutritionist you should have book or something that lays out everything you can eat/drink for each stage. I'm a little discouraged, but apparently it's normal to not be losing much until your fill. Just gotta police yourself on portions!! Also 1-2lbs a week is normal. Don't expect to lose more than that!

    Pre-Op Diet Suggestions

I used the EAS from Costco mixed with water and it was fine. Also mixed it into smoothies. Yogurt based smoothies are good too. I make my own. Soups are a good alternative. Some have around 50 calories in a cup. Then you can mix some protein in there. I have miso a couple of times on my preop. The sodium count is high though, so it may make you retain water.
  17. At that point I ate mainly shakes, refried Beans (Taco Bell pintos and cheese) plain kefir, low sugar yogurt, hard boiled eggs, hummus, cheese, Avocado, and puréed or cream based Soups or broth. I was still getting the hang of meats, veggies and scrambled eggs. I was able to eat a few crackers at this point, but I try to limit them. Anything harder than the very soft stuff could make me sick or cause pain. It was a time of transition. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    August '07 -- Compare pre-op diets

I asked my PA why every doctor seems to have such a different pre-op diet. She said that they don't feel a small amount of dieting (1-2 weeks) really shrinks the liver or internal organs that much but it does help. They only do a 1 week pre op diet because it's easier for people to stick to and the difference between 1 and 2 weeks on the liver isn't significant. They'd rather have someone strictly follow a 1 week diet, than do a 2 week diet with some of cheating. (which I guess is what seems to happen frequently with such a long stretch of time.) I guess we all got heavy some how 8/27/07 is my date I have to do a liquid diet for 6 days. Then clear liquids on the 7th day. I can have a small amount of steamed veggies or fresh fruit in the first 3 days, if I'm feeling too run down or weak. No more than 1 cup per day and they recommend you try not to indulge at all. They push Medifast for a protein shake but I found I like the Unjury better and it's not as expense. That's what I'm going with. 6 meals per day - 2 protein shakes (16ozs) and 4 of something else. (low fat soup, pudding, yogurt, Carnation Instant Breakfast or skim milk blended with small amounts of fruit) I can have unlimited snacks of broth, jello, and ice pops. (all sugar free) Goal per day = <1200 calories, >85 grams protein, <175 carbs, <12 fat
  19. My before pictures were in a t-shirt and workout leggings. I did not keep any of the size 22 pants but I have some 2XL shirts still- I sleep in them. But I'm almost 1 year out and I drink wine and every once and a while I have a slice of pizza. I stocked up on what I needed for post op according to my plan - which in my first 2 weeks was full liquids - greek yogurt, creamed soups, protein drinks, Vitamin Water Zero, Crystal Light, Fairlife Milks, protein powder, sugar free jello and pudding, sugar free popsicles and fudgesicles. I made sure I had enough stuff to make dinners for my family on hand so I didn't have to go to the grocery store.
  20. Hi There! oh you are so lucky!! Wish I was eating soft food. Im still on the liquid as i have only been banded since weds. But I have a really good booklet the Dr gave me on some food ideas. This is considered "transitional foods(soft solid diet)"..soft scrambled eggs, finely chopped meat, chopped cooked vegs, baked or mashed potatoes, Hot cereal. .cream of wheat, grits, oatmeal, soups including chili, cottage cheese, yogurt, pudding (sugar free). Hope this helps, if you have any ideas, let me know!! Good luck!
  21. I'm only 3 1/2 weeks out I was fine up until about 2-3 days ago. Watching others eat fast food or even just normal food was ok with me. All of a sudden anytime someone cooks or brings food home, I literally dry heave. It only makes my appetite problem worse. Since I'm already having a very hard time eating anything. Today I've only had one 80 calorie yogurt. Food disgusts me right now, and I'm not liking this feeling.
  22. Some shakes don't agree with me -- for instance a lot of dairy or soy can be binding. Not sure what your pre-op consists of......good to check in with your doctor. Post-surgery constipation can be an issue, too, so good to sort this out. Even though I didn't use pain medication (notoriously constipating, those narcotics) I still had difficulties just from the anasthesia and ended up having to take Milk of Magnesia day four or so. Love the prune juice idea. I chew up a prune here and there to help keep regular, plus chia seeds in my yogurt, etc.
  23. Soups, watery cream of wheat, jello. I like to add extra protein to my protein drinks after a fill. One way I do this is to blend in some low fat peanut butter or PB2. After a fill I also eat regular yogurt (not greek - too thick) without any fruit in it.

    Weak?!

Thanks. I'm taking my vitamin and drinking my water. I'm eating soft foods like eggs, protein shakes, and cheese grits. Yogurt, cottage cheese....sometimes overcooked pasta. I can't wait to eat "real" foods, but moving to soft foods was really awesome, too. I wish I could shake this. I want some energy. sara

    Soup recommendations?

Bone broth is really good for you! As far as a little but if something warm, Trader Joe's has low sodium choices that are yummy. You could add some Greek yogurt to it Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
