    Milk!

Cottage, yogurt and cheese are fermented milk I believe. Reg. milk bothers some, not others.

    Does anyone have Celiac Disease???

I have Celiac Disease. I have been eating gluten free for years and was sleeved in December of last year. You are correct, it is in EVERYTHING! LOL! Well, not everything but when there are things you want, it seems like it is in everything. When you get used to eating gluten free it actually will help you watch your intake after your sleeve. When you can't have bread (and trust me when I say I'd rather do without than eat gluten free bread. Most of it is pretty gross) it's easier to get your daily Protein. I eat a lot of grilled chicken breast which is great dense protein that not only helps reach your protein goals but also helps keep you feeling full longer. When you feel full longer it is easier to keep from eating too many small meals in the day. Here is an example of some of the foods I eat without having to buy special gluten-free foods. Breakfast: turkey bacon, boiled egg, grits, corn chex Cereal (the honey nut chex are also excellent to eat dry as a snack), yogurt lunch: Grilled chicken, shaved turkey and cheese (usually 50% less fat mozzerella string cheese), Healthy Choice tomato basil Soup (so good!) with Protein powder Dinner: Lean ground beef with rice and powder ranch seasoning, lean beef steak with green Beans, grilled chicken fajita strips with rice or tortilla chips with refried beans and lowfat shredded cheese Trust me, once you get used to it, it becomes second nature. My symptoms improved so much that even though I do miss things, it is totally worth it.

    Pouch size?

Such a great question! I have no idea what "the answer" is, but I know that I'm 13 days post-op and I can eat almost 8oz. of yogurt at once with no discomfort whatsoever. Which scares me... I assume (and hope!!!) that when I get to solids, I will be able to tolerate (much) less.

    This sucks

Yes, that is the diet I am on. I do a Protein shake for Breakfast and lunch, with something to go with it (fruit, yogurt, cottage cheese, salad) and then a low carb meal for dinner. I also have a snack since my work hours force me to go about 7-8 hours between meals. I was doing good and that's how I lost the 5 lbs, but then I cheated a little and wham it all came back. I mean I was still eating good more than half the time, including Protein shakes at least once a day, but it didn't matter.

    I want it

Hello and welcome! I really enjoyed your post! Your mom knows you best, of course, but the band REALLY helps you stick to a healthy eating schedule. You don't need to overindulge now because you WILL be able to eat later, most likey. I can still eat pizza, hamburgers, fries, enchiladas, lasagna...you name it. I just dont' eat it often and when I do, don't eat a lot of it. I eat a piece of pizza (no crust) and am full for about 4-6 hours. So...you do what your Mom says (LOL) because you aren't going to starve and be miserable forever. Show her you've got the juice! There are some who are so tight they only eat what we call "sliders" (yogurt,Soups, ice cream) but that tightness is a choice. You'll always be in control. Good luck!

    Yogurt?

I was a premier Protein girl myself. High protein, low calorie and taste was pretty good. I wasn't a fan of any of the muscle milks and if your going to use them use the light there is a big calorie and sugar difference. Love all the Greek yogurts, when looking at them all I chose by higher protein value and lower calorie and sugar content since the hubs is diabetic and we are both banded. As for Starbucks and coffee... I have a cup of regular coffee a day, sometimes 2 then I switch fully to decaf to get all the "water" values in for the day. I enjoy the warmth and flavor of coffee, it can be a bit acidic and if you have gerd or anything like that it can aggravate those symptoms. If you don't then as long as you get the Water in, and stick to decaf you should be great. Starbucks coffee...and flavors...there is a decaf skinny non fat, no sugar macchiato you can get and it's not bad at all. I limit it to a "treat" for myself since I have seen barrister's make mistakes and you end up with the 700 calorie drink and your supposed be eating only 800-1200 per day, makes you think! For my morning coffee, and my night time decaf I like to use the international or coffee mate flavored creamers. I get them in sugar free they are half the calories, I don't like the non fat ones. Those who are sleeved or had a Gastric by-pass, sugar in any of those mocha drinks or even the fat content of the cream and cause dumping syndrome and upset stomach so probably best to avoid it all together. Lapband does not react the same way.
  8. Yes, I sure found that out this morning. Not "one more morsel". I don't think I have room or even the appetite for adding another meal or snack, so I will accept the fact that I will stall and that I might not lost much weight until I get further down the road. It's really pretty important to get yourself to at least 600 calories/day, even if it's tedious. Are you adding Protein to your liquids or drinking shakes still? A 30 gram scoop of protein powder added to a soft food like refried Beans will get you approximately 25g protein and another 110 calories, as well as the protein and calories already in the beans. Using powder to supplement was the only way I could get everything I needed for months, and I still have it every morning in my coffee, even though I'm getting most of my requirements met through foods. Just something to consider...you won't lose weight reliably with the number of calories you're eating. Yes, I am still drinking the Premier Protein Shakes. I have 3 regular meals with either yogurt, cottage cheese or eggs for Breakfast. Then usually chicken for lunch and dinner, although I recently made the ricotta bake and have been eating some of it too. For my morning, afternoon and night-time Snacks, I drink the protein shakes. I am getting well over 70 grams of protein a day. Thank you for the suggestion to add some protein powder to my food. I have 2 containers of unjury protein powder, and I used it quite a bit during the full liquid and pureed stages. It is a great idea to add it to some of the foods and I can add it to some of my drinks too, and I haven't been doing that. That will help me bulk up on the calories a bit.
  9. Yes yogurt makes my tummy come ALIVE! But cheese is okay so far.

    Sample menus

"meals" scrambled egg egg salad cottage cheese chicken thigh slow cooked tilapia mashed Beans ricotta cheese string cheese snacks: sweet potato greek yogurt oatmeal cooked with milk and coconut oil (one thing i actually cooked from a recipe: blend in a blender, 2 eggs, cup oatmeal, 1/2 cup cottage cheese, vanilla extract. if too thick to pour, add a little milk or Water. cook like regular pancakes. i eat plain, because i cook in coconut oil, but good with apple sauce, greek yogurt, a little cinnamon butter, etc)
  11. My dr said absolutely no Greek yogurt with fruit (because the protein/carb ratio isn't favorable), but to put vanilla Splenda in it. If you're like me, the thought of vanilla is blah. Lol. So it hit me.. Crystal light!! It's sooooo good. Searched on google and apparently a lot of others have thought of it too. Just wanted to share for you guys that hadn't heard of it.
  12. Today in really frustrated over the last few days my sugar levels were below 200 well today I had 2oz of plain Greek yogurt mixed with 1 spoon of sugar free pudding and 2 hrs later my keels are back to 212-223 I am due back on metformin but I can't tolerate it so I am not taking it because of really bad side effects . So upset is there a chance Incan reverse this disease I mean I am newly type 2 diabetic . Thanks all I don't regret any decision in my life because at the end I will make it work

    Way too full

I decided to start using up my unflavored Protein powder. I mixed a banana yoplait yogurt, soy slender and a scoop of unflavored Protein Powder together in my magic bullet. I have never had a Protein shake fill me up as much as this one did. I can't even drink my Water cause I am so full and I drank that hours ago. I thought the yogurt by itself would need some liquid. Next time I will use less soy slender.
  14. I am 4 days post op and doing really great. Sometimes I find myself drinking too fast which results in a gas pain under my breast bone but it quickly passes. My doctor said it is okay to add two teaspoons of low fat creamy strained soups between protein shakes and today I tried the creamy organice butternut squash version and let me just say it was amazing. It made feel normal again. I had 4 oz and another 4 oz about 2 hours later. Is that normal?? It went down easy and I had no problems. Doesn't 4 oz. sound like a lot to fit in 4 days post op? Anyway, other than being sore and having pain if I drink water too fast, I am doing really well. I am craving a scrambled egg but I can't have that until 2 weeks out-I did make an egg custard but I am afraid to eat it because the consistancy is a bit tougher than a yogurt-I will wait on trying that one.

    Not feeling full

In the realm of bariatric surgery, Cream of Wheat is considered a slider, a.k.a. slurry food. Slurry foods 'slide' into our sleeves before rapidly entering our intestines. They do not stay in our stomachs long enough to challenge the sleeve or provide a sense of fullness or satiety. Hence, you will never feel full eating Cream of Wheat. You will not feel full until you start eating solids such as meats, eggs, Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, non-starchy veggies, and other foods that will challenge your sleeve. Good luck to you.

    Banded and very very sore...

Congrats, Welcome to band land. I was banded on Sept 23. Tomorrow will be 7 days. I came back to work today and am doing well. The soarness has gone and now I just feel a little discomfort at my port site when I turn or sit in an odd position. Starting to get my appetite back which is weird because I don't really have much restriction. My doctor is requiring me to have liquids and yogurt for 21 days. Then I can go to soft food. I am coutning the days. Good Luck

    Snack Yes/No What?

nuts, peanut butter, yogurt, cheese stick, cottage cheese, high protein milk,
  18. I don't usually have a problem figuring out what to eat for Breakfast or lunch, but I'm continually stuck (heh heh) on what to have/make for dinner. Sometimes I'll have eggs, sometimes the insides of a burrito, grilled fish, or just a yogurt and some Peanut Butter on a tortilla. I bet others have the same problem, so I thought I'd start a "what's for dinner" thread. Post what you're having for dinner tonight - maybe we'll all get some good ideas! I went to Trader Joes this afternoon and got some salmon burgers, so I'm going to grill one of those tonight, together with a green salad and some tomatoes from the garden. What about you?

    Day One Pre Op Diet

Lady Sith, I'm glad to hear that this gets easier, even if it is minutely. I had another protein shake this morning. My menu for the day will be two greek yogurts and a salad from Wendy's with a grilled chicken breast - no dressing. I know this isn't the best, most clean lunch but a girls gotta eat and I didn't have time to prep anything last night. Shame on me. I need to become better at dedicating time to planning and making my meals.

    Salad

A food that's usually doesn't have any nutritional value that "slides" easily through your sleeve allowing you to consume larger portions. Sometimes it's not an issue and helpful to get your Protein (yogurt, creamed soups) but other times when it's popcorn, chips, ice cream, etc - it's not a good thing.

    Yogurt?

According to my nutrition guidelines i can have sugar-free, low-fat yogurt. Well i am having trouble finding the sugar-free part. Does any know where I buy it or some brands i can look for? Currently on the soft food phase as my booklet calls it.

What can i eat at 2 weeks?

Follow your doctor's orders, in my 'Bariatric Bible' (that's what I call it) from Forest Park Medical Center in Dallas, below is a cut and paste on week 2 & 3. Dr. Davidson said NOTHING that won't go through a straw. I added sugar free Jello with sugar free cool whip. Just something most won't think about. I hope this helps. Gastric Sleeve – Weeks 2 and 3 Add cream/blended soups and drinkable yogurts NO lumps, bumps, or chunks! Continue Multivitamin and mineral supplements Use Protein supplements 1-2x per day (goal 40-60 grams/day)

    Dilemma/confusion would love your help

OMG, I'm scared to even look sideways at a bagel... In the morning if I want something sweet, I'll usually have yogurt. If I'd rather have something savory, I'll have string cheese, cottage cheese, or if I am craving salt, I'll have a slice of sharp cheddar cheese for breakfast. That way I'm getting in some Protein first thing, and I don't get as hungry as fast as if I'd had something starchy. Hope this helps!
