First GL with the surgery. I had mine done 2 weeks before my hubby came home from being deployed so I can feel ya on deployment. As for a long drive be careful! About 3 weeks after my surgery we had to make a 6 hour drive for my daughters gymnastics meet. The way there, I was golden. On the way home, had my hubby not been with us to drive we would have had to stay a few nights. I suddenly got sick the day of her meet a reaction to a medicine they had put me on. We had to stop often and I was living on zofran. Make sure you have plenty of protein and water. In addition to my protein drinks I also brought dannon light and fit yogurt drink. It "filled" me up more than just a reg protein shake, so I use them as snacks. Someone mentioned maybe postponing surgery till after the deployment, I am going to say, while the trip to Williamsburg could be hard, if you have your mom with you then really I think you will be just fine. My mom was supposed to stay with me for a week after my surgery- after my pain got under control I sent her home within 4 days of me being home. As a milso you probably know that whole "I can take care of myself" thing LOL

This is such a great thread. I just went for my third fill yesterday. My second fill was only one week after the first because I called the nurse and said I have no restriction and I wouldn't make it another six weeks. After the first two fills there was no restriction. I just tried to eat healthy choices and less. I don't eat between meals unless it's yogurt or sandwhich meat or fruit, but rarely. So, I resolved to eat enough to feel satisfied. I have just tried to listen to my body for any feelings of fullness and discmfort. Nothing! Yesterday I went for my third fill. I am at 7cc. I think this fill will finally work. It felt different when I sipped on Water at the dr.'s office. I am still on liquids for the next couple of days, so I won't be able to tell for a while. I've lost 22 pounds so far, but not with the help of the band. I walk 45 minutes at least five days/week, and stay away from the junk I used to eat. I guess the fear of the band has helped. I purposely stop eating before I get full because I don't want to stretch my stomach. I will be glad when the band starts doing its job.

Hi all! I have all my paperwork for what to drink/eat for my clear liquid & full liquid phases. What I don’t have is an idea on how much to drink/eat during full liquids. I know I can have thinned Greek yogurt, thinned applesauce, thinned & strained soups, etc. But, hypothetically, could I sip on soup or eat yogurt all day long as long as I got my protein in? (I wouldn’t actually do that) In the purée phase & beyond I’m told how many ounces of each category to have in a meal. I just need an idea on how much to consume during my full liquid phase. Any advice is much appreciated!

I mix about 1 tbsp of instant espresso powder (dissolved in a little warm water) into my protein shake every morning. I add 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt, 1 cup of skim milk & a scoop of either vanilla or chocolate protein powder & shake it up in my blender bottle. It's yummy!

I weighted 217 when I had my surgery. I'm now 190. I go to the gym for two hours 4 days a week. I do cardio and strength training. I also walk a lot. I don't count calories but I try and sick to three meals a day. If im starving then I have a snack. My Dailey meal plains looks something like this: Greek yogurt plan with maybe a banana or a Protein shake with kale. A salad with grilled chicken or maybe a turkey chili or left overs from dinner. Or a Kale shake. Dinner is 4 oz of protein and a green veggie if I have room. I have an appoint with my dr this Friday! I'm just so disappointed I thought I would have done better!

You are too funny! I love that you have a date with the Dr. As far as the "food funerals" - don't worry about it. It was fun saying..."Well, I probably won't be having Pizza, Chinese, Spaghetti Pie, (you fill in the blank) ...anytime soon so I may as well have one last big blowout!" LOL! OK - so I had a few of those and bought a dozen maple bars at WalMart - ate two and threw the rest away because I knew I would eat the rest over a period of 24 hours - if I didn't call a halt!!! Sometimes it's just the thought that I may not be able to have.... whatever. I am 2.5 weeks post-op and gosh - I'm not eating steak - but I'm having yogurt and soft noodles in beef broth - mostly broth, soft cheese, scrambled eggs very soft - and mashed potatoes with cheese. I drink my 2 protein shakes a day and take my gummi-vites and sub-lingual vitamin B (under the tongue) with enthusiasm. The vitamins really have helped me maintain energy. GeminTheRough posted our photo on her gallery at the airport before they picked us up to take us to Tijuana. We had fun - except her first night was barfy...and then here we are on the sleeved side of business. I have followed your blogs from the first day I heard about this site and telling us where we could get a blow by blow story. Thank you for the big part you played in my moving forward with the sleeve. You too will soon be my sleeve-sister! Love ya! Reb

At the risk of sounding dumb... When mixing the Protein with pudding, I'm still using almond milk? This is how I've done it in the past. Or is it just the protein & pudding, protein & yogurt? Lol if it don't taste or fill right I will add silk. Thanks Jazee -
Any 12/8/15 Sleeves out there
ezbeinggreen replied to mizzvickie72088's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved 12/7 so just one day before you! Hopefully that is OK?! I am in the same boat. I definitely feel hunger and some days feel like I can eat more than I should compared to some other folks who even at 1 - 3 months out are still really restricted to just a few spoonfuls. Especially soft foods like yogurt, soups, etc. I can definitely eat more yogurt than say chicken or fish. For example, I can eat an entire 5.3 oz greek yogurt now but maybe 2-3 oz of flaky fish. But as long as I keep my calories in check I feel like I am OK. My doc had me on purees and soft foods from the day I got home from surgery so maybe that is the difference? The people I know who are super restricted were on clear and full liquids for weeks before moving to purees. I am already eating regularly textured food at this point. The good thing about that is I can drink pretty much anything and tolerate just about any foods so getting my Protein in isn't difficult mechanically - I am just really sick of Protein shakes and don't want to drink them anymore! I started working out again today, took a really long walk this morning (I need to work back up to the gym). Felt good though - I am down 20 pounds since surgery (25 total since pre-op diet) and I felt the difference. -
Soups 2 wks post op
mylighthouse replied to nruetze10's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When I was on full liquids, I could not have lentil soup. In fact, all Soups had to be strained, making sure that I didn't have any pieces of food in it. Lentils would be way to hard on your stomach right now. You have to protect your stomach, so please make sure that you are doing full liquids only. Cream soups, broth, yogurt, sugar free pudding, sugar free Jello were all considered acceptable on my full liquids phase. -
I am almost one week out (3/24). Water hasn't been an issue. It takes me all day to get the 60oz they require. I have now started adding in Propel and V8. Didn't realize I could do V8 but it's on my paperwork. It's been a welcome relief. I have been struggling with getting the Protein. DR wants 70grams a day. I get so full from one shake that it will take 10 hours before I can even consider drinking another. I started exploring other options to get it. chicken broth, cream Soups, yogurt (never been a fan of Greek).

I was eating reduced/low sugar greek yogurt 2 days post-op from my sleeve.

Hi, I advanced to the pureed phase today of the plan. I did 3 weeks of pre op and 1 week post op of clear liquids. I am now on pureed for 3 weeks and so excited!! Im down 27 lbs. But, my issue is today when I ate my pureed, yogurt, soup etc I did not feel full. I am compliant and drinking my water with no issues also. I called my NUT and she said some people do not get that full feeling during the pureed stage. Has anyone else.experienced this? I feel great today, even used a timer to wait 2 min before bites etc. I almost dont feel "sleeved" but I know I was.

Calling all June 11 sleevers
stephanie.ahring0505 replied to bettyb71's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I need to try Greek yogurt. I haven't gotten into it yet. But those definitely sound good. My problem is I'm not a fan of seafood, so lobster bisque and tuna salad don't sound good to me. However, I'm excited to eat tortilla shells next week and American cheese.. I think that'll be my lunch when I go back to work Monday. Ha. Good luck to you!!! -
Am I doing this right?
FocusOnMeNow replied to curlychic32's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Honestly not sure why you are trying to eat so much at one time. My nut told me 1/4 cup of purées and yogurts at 3 weeks and that was all I could take. Even that would take me at least 1/2 hour to get down. So if you're trying to eat a half cup in 15 min three weeks out, perhaps you are just trying to eat like way too much. Protein shakes are what they are and you gotta do a lot of them the first few weeks. -
Low carb ideas
PatientEleventyBillion replied to char3672's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For preop diet I had stuff like this... - Meatballs.. with egg and instead of bread crumbs using almond meal - String cheese, block cheese (cheddar mostly) - Almonds (ate too many of these and gave me hemorrhoids) - Peanuts (unsalted), peanut butter - Scrambled eggs with tbsp of ketchup or block cheese melted into it - Other ideas: - Peanut butter cookies using almond flour and stevia - Pizza using almond flour, block cheese, low carb meat sauce, and ground beef or other non processed meats - Take a cow home and gnaw on it for a bit My first week or so home post op I already have ready: - 1 percent milk (less fat no diff in carbs) - YOP yogurt drink (only until solids.. more carbs than I'd like) - unsweetned apple sauce (might add cinnamon if tolerable) - SF jello - ice cubes.. already like chewing them anyways - Duff Beer -
@Clementine Sky Thank you for the yogurt ideas. I will check Siggi's website out. I haven't seen their brand or the Liberte on my grocery shelves, but that doesn't surprise me.

Most flavored yogurt probably is too high in sugar and carbs. At least I sure couldn't find any that were acceptable for me. So I went with the plain Greek, and I really had to dig around to find a low carb one of those too.
-
Is flavored greek yogurt a no no? I thought that as long as the protein was higher than the sugar content it was ok. I hope my nut teaches me these things, she hasn't been very helpful yet. I am planning on finding a dietician after surgery(someone on here recommended that instead of a nut)

I was banded on December 18th. I had 2 days of clears then 5 days of full liquids. I never really felt hungry that first week. But I also think compared to what other people have posted, that I have had more postop discomfort than most. Now, in my second week, I am on "blenderized" foods. I do find this week that I am having more feelings of hunger, however it only takes a small amount of food to get rid of the feeling. As far as things to eat on the full liquid stage, it's rough! I really got tired of soups. I was allowed to have things like cream of chicken as long as the chunks of chicken were removed. I pretty much existed on protein shakes, yogurt (no chunks), and juice. I did go to a big deli here in town and order soup and take out all the chunky stuff, just ate the liquid part. Also, I'm over a week out and I am still having occasional shoulder pain from the gas, so it's possible you could be too. Good luck darlin!

Thanks, Maggie, the only food that I was allowed this week that will have to wait for a while was the refried beans. They didn't make me sick but my stomach felt so heavy afterwards. The egg was good and so was the shredded cheese and yogurt. But best of all has been the cottage cheese! I drizzled a tiny bit of fruit flavor Torani sugar free syrup on it and it has sat wonderfully! I must admit that on one hand I am really looking forward to having meat again and on the other hand, it makes me nervous. I am going to pressure cook some chicken breast and chop them up into tiny pieces and see how it goes!

The Soft Solids Effect
Bufflehead replied to almosthome's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
honestly I would not waste stomach space on things like potatoes at this point. Maybe try a tiny bite of something high protein and soft, like refried beans, tofu, Greek yogurt, or cottage cheese. -
The Soft Solids Effect
moonlitestarbrite replied to almosthome's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
veggies, even cooked veggies, can be tough to digest. try things that are easier... cottage cheese, yogurt, soft cooked eggs. even just drink milk. fyi, at 13 months post op i cant eat 5 ounces protein! 2-3 at most. -
I also tried it today. I made a smoothie with PB2, Dannon Banana Cream Greek Yogurt and Soy Milk. It was yummy and worth 25 Protien

well, its hard to say. What I really wanted to say something about was the going back to the fish. You do not wan't to do that. When you are comfortable and have had enough you should stop and put it away, don't go back to it ten or twenty minutes later to have more - because you could honestly do that all day. It probably doesnt seem like grazing but thats what that is. You should be comfortably unhungry when you stop eating, not full, not stuffed. I would encourage you to examine if what you are feeling is really hunger or if it is thirst, or if you just have a pattern of snacking and psychologically, that 4 ounces of fish just wasn't doing it for you. If you are truly hungry you should probably switch to something more substantial to snack on then pudding, and Jello. a harder cheese, a 2 oz piece of chicken, a small salad even. I try to have at least three premade salads in my fridge at all times. They have 3oz lettuce, 1 oz of tuna and 28 grams of cheese. I usually have half at a time with greek yogurt ranch dressing. One is a meal, half is usually a snack.

Sleeved aug. 26th...
Peggy 53 replied to 140icandoit's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow. I was sleeved on the 28th. I was able to go to soft foods on week 4post op. Now that said, my new stomach really prefers shakes, yogurt type foods so that is what I plan for breakfast and lunch, but at dinner I will have protein that is okay in the soft phase. I've had Fish, shrimp, tuna, eggs, chicken thighs. I'm only able to eat 3 oz very slowly. I can also manage melons, and grapes, a bite or two of banana. You will definitely feel full once you start getting into more solid foods. I'm not hungry at all. If anything I have to tell myself to eat to be sure to get my 60gms of protein in. Now that said, I have had moments of head hunger (cravings) even though I'm not hungry. Hang in there. It's an adventure. I was 221 pre-op and I'm 204 today. So were about at the same place.
