I am a couple days shy of 4 months & around the week of Christmas I noticed that I was starting to feel hungry. Like go drink some more Water & feeling wasn't gone. I am at a little stall this week only down .6 of a pound but I am sure I have gained muscle because clothes are fitting looser then weeks prior. I am sticking well within my calorie allowance & eating acceptable foods for my program. Ie no intentional eating of carbs allowed until the start month 7 obviously some foods like yogurt innately contain carbs but you all get what I mean. I am also getting exercise in daily so just wondering if anyone else is experiencing this? Happy New Year to everyone????????

I'm just wondering if anyone knows why we have to crush our pills or open the capsules for the first 6 weeks. But after that we can take them normally? Was everyone else told the same thing? Do you know why? Sent from my SM-G920V using the BariatricPal App

Are you still on omeprazole? the heartburn can mimic hunger but there is no way you are actually hungry. I had a kidney stone 3 weeks out and was having the worst stomach pains of my life.

My glue seemed to want to stick around forever! I think I still had incision glue clinging tight 6 weeks post. I picked the edges off and waited for the remaining glue to rub off "naturally".

Also will be having a drain that will be kept in for a week. I heard the drain itself is not too bad but getting it taken out is a bit of a doozy. My mom compared it to "getting a band-aid ripped off but it's on the inside". Sent from my SM-G960U using BariatricPal mobile app

Took a couple of weeks for mine to be fully eradicated.. and yes, I had shoulder pain, too. You can take all the 'gas-x' /colic drops you like; walk around - I am of the humble opinion, it dissipates when it wants to... Sorry you're suffering. Hang on in there, try to keep mobile and it will go eventually...

My shoulder pain lasted about a week. Walking was the only thing that helped with the gas - and maybe like Reverie states above it was more relief from the gas pain than getting rid of the gas. It made me feel better.

I'm in the same boat. I think it's because my water intake is low. I've been on a stall for two months and then started logging my calories. I got down to 199 in April then shot back up to 209, got stuck there for two months and then finally lost 5 pounds just recently. I've been stuck here for about 2 weeks. By logging my water intake I noticed I'm barely getting in about 32 ounces or less. Hopefully something changes in the next few weeks.

YIKES!! I had to have an complete unfill today I have been banded for almost 2yrs in June and I have lost almost 120lbs. But over the last week I had a very bad cold and lots of mucus. My band got really tight and I did a lot of throwing up and could not get anything down. So now I have to wait a few weeks to get a fill put back in. I am so scared!! I don't want to gain a lot of weight back. Other than that I LOVE my BAND

You just have to stay focussed, logically if you dont eat more than you were eating, you wont gain weight. We've ALL stuck to diets for a few weeks. I've been unfilled for five months, and I felt your fear, it kept me awake at nights knowing I'd have to unfill (for a surgery). But you know, I found after five years banded, I had changed my habits. The weight hasnt piled back on and I fill in the extra stomach space with loads of salad and fruit and vegies, I actually am eating much better. I eat larger volume but similar calories since with a tight band you do tend to eat mainly calorie dense foods high Protein and fat and not large quantities of fibrous low fat foods that are full of Water - the fruit, vegies etc. And whatever you do, keep exercising! I've played around in the past few months with starting Body Pump, but for my body, it just hasnt been a success - my weight and body remains under control best with an hour's run a day, I like cardio and strength training doesnt do a lot for me, although that goes against all common wisdom of today. I do pushups and squats and I'm strong, but if I reduce cardio for strength trianing, I just gain weight and get bigger (can feel it in my clothes). I'd say that in a situation like yours where keeping fat off is your main goal, focus on the cardio and do LOTS of it.

It doesn't hurt to revisit your goals and to go back to basics. Do you journal? Try writing out a list of what you can accomplish now that you couldn't do before surgery and what you still want to do. How is your life different? What do you want your life to look like? Another thing that helps me is to reward myself. I have chosen to schedule massages when I get to some significant milestones. It gives me something to look forward to. You may also want to consider making an appointment with your NUT to revisit your goals and/or attend some support group meetings. In the meantime. Follow your program. Focus on getting in all of your Protein and Water. Take your Vitamins and supplements as instructed. And, exercise. I had my sleeve on 4/28. 10 days after surgery I hit a stall. Its been 3 weeks now and I have lost 1 pound in that time. I lost 27 pounds in the first 10 days. I know that is a lot for 1 month however when you can't eat much of anything and you exercise and its still not coming off it becomes very stressful. I know that lots of people go thru the same thing but it seems that for most of you it doesn't last this long. I'm having a very hard time staying positive. Any help would be appreciated.

Yes, I stayed ahead of the pain. I had terrible pain that woul come and it would go all down hill from there. I still take few bites and eat every two hours at 4 weeks, lol.

Call your doctor. I got watery green diarrhea at 6 weeks post and it turned out to be a C. Diff infection. Took 6 weeks of antibiotics and finally a fecal transplant to get rid of. And if it's not an infection, your doctor can Rx a treatment plan. Long term diarrhea is never good and you can get dehydrated easily (I needed IV fluids 3 times when I had it)

UALAW08, good luck with your surgeries. My hubby and I were done same day on 11/26/13, and we believe it has been easier as we both are on the same agenda and meal plans. The surgeries and recoveries were smooth, and we support and compare notes daily. Our meals for the two of us are about 1/4 than one meal for one of us before. We still can't get over that for about three weeks we shared and egg. I'll be anxious to hear your progress. We do not have any regrets, and I hope you and hubby feel the same! F

Vsg'ers Can't Gain Weight Back As Fast As Gastric Bypass'ers?
MINI-Me replied to Ssilian's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Welcome to VST! I'm just over 2 years out & experienced my first gain since surgery over the holidays. I've never had a gastric bypass, but I know people who have. Of the three I know, all have gained back a substantial amount of weight. Mine was only 10 pounds, but it could easily have been more if I didn't recognize the issue and refuse to continue to eat junk. My best advice is to use the first year or so to really retrain yourself to eat "right". Allow yourself some small treats, but don't make them a habit. Learn to cook meat and protein in ways that are very healthy and satisfying. I am a HUGE chocolate freak & have virtually no ability to say no. Unfortunately, I feel very little restriction with candy & I can go through a lot before I feel "satisfied". I'm not saying this to discourage you. Just take advantage of your tool and learn how to eat the right way. We've spent so many years doing it wrong, it takes a while to get it right. And yes, I heard a lot of the same commnents. I reminded people that obese was obese and that I had failed on years of dieting. This was the best thing I've ever done for myself. My signature says that it saved my life - I really mean that. Again, welcome! -
At 8 weeks I was pretty much unable to over-indulge. Now at 10 months I can a little. I suggest you do what you have been doing which is protein first, then filling the edges with healthy things. We usually have a couple healthier vegetable dishes and a tiny bit of mashed potato won't hurt anyone. Just eat the turkey and veggies. They're good for you.

Had a really shitty week - stated off well by losing 7 lbs in a week. Then heard my stepmother died after a 4 week battle. Finally finished off by my ex-wife falling off a chair last night putting up decorations & begging me to take her to the hospital. so, I had a few drinks tonight ...... well, it turned into more than a bottle of wine ..... my doc advised me 12 months before having alcohol. I'm 6 months post-op

I had a glass 2 weeks out (Thanksgiving ) it didn't feel good at all!

I found out today that my pain is due to internal stitches placed by my surgeon to strengthen the area in the abdominal wall where the stomach was removed. Some have made reference to these stitches but I didn't realize that not all surgeons even place the internal stitches in order to ease recovery and some do minimal stitching. I think my surgeon did a stitching for an Amish quilt in there so hence the tugging and pain. While I hate the pain, it is temporary and for my benefit, so I feel better about it. Supposed it can be 3-6 weeks before it is relieved so I have a way to go. Thank you for the encouragement everyone. I feel better. Now, on with the never ending horrible fluids!

I also have low vitamin D levels that my neurologist discovered a year and a half ago. My level showed me at a 10! Normal I believe is over 35. This is very common in most Americans to not have the proper vitamin d level. I take 5,000 IUs everyday over the counter. I just have my levels check last week and it's finally up to 55 after a year and half of taking that much. Vitamin d also helps neurological health. Everyone should take a supplement because a one a day doesn't have enough. If you are pre-op I would check with your surgeon about continuing to take a multivitamin vitamin E slows down healing time and should be discontinued at least 10 days prior to surgery. But double check with what your doctor recommends! Good luck everyone!
