I can't tell you to stay off the scale because I am just as bad. Well I was up to a week ago now I have or want nothing to with weight loss, the band, the scale or anything. Just in a rut... Anyway...hang in there...I do think you aren't getting enough calories in. When I was filled too tight..I was having like 300 - 400 a day and oh my goodness I was actually gaining most of the time. You will see when you eat mushies it will get better hang in there girl. Plus look at the exercise you are doing... me I am lucky to walk everyday. Oh and my throat has been hurting me the last 2 days...I think something is going around.

Ankle weights
BitterSweet* replied to mentalistfan's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wear ankle weights to work. I wear MBT shoes and do lots of walking. Between the shoes and the weights, it's a good way to just burn extra calories. The only thing that can help your skin be in the best shape possible is to do a lot of cardio and weight training. Lots of squats and lunges with heavy weights. Keep your Protein intake up, stay hydrated with Water, take your Vitamins, and keep your skin mouisturized. Builiding lots of lean muscle will help saggy skin look better. Also, losing weight slower gives your skin a chance to rebound better. As much as we want massive weight loss and we want it to happen quick, that drastic kind of change usually equates to hanging skin. -
Sounds like you know what the issue is here...and you need to get some professional help right away to deal with the drinking. Doctors and nutritionists say that the number one cause of failure in bariatric surgery is calorie containing beverages. You can stop your addictive behavior, but you're going to need some help outside of yourself. Good luck to you.

How do you track your calories?
MichiganChic replied to need2bthin!'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I use MFP too. I try to stay around 800-1000 calories a day, about 75 gm protein. Don't count carbs, though I avoid bread, rice, pasta. -
OMG this stall is horrible. Please help
dcmusicmom posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeves on August 12th and lost 22 lbs the first two weeks!! Fabulous. But then as soon as I started my mushy food I stalled and haven't lost a pound. Actually scale says I gained! It's been a week and I am so frustrated. I have been charting all my food and Water staying under 800 calories close to 70 Proteins and 48-64 oz of water a day but nothing is happening. Any tips to get this stall broken or motivational stories of similar happenings would be greatly appreciated. I feel like I will be the only sleeve unsuccessful story!! -
4 days post-op...really nervous/worried
longtimecomin replied to Clairabellleee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What about feeling lightheaded? Is that fairly normal for 4-5 days post op? I'm afraid I'm not getting enough calories but I'm eating til I'm full. -
What has worked for me is to weigh and measure everything I eat (I have done this from the moment I was able to eat solids). I normally have 3-4 oz Protein and 1/2 cup veggies for lunch and dinner. Breakfast is either eggbeaters with 2% cheese and turkey sausage, greek yogurt or oatmeal. If you feel like you need a snack keep them protein-based like string cheese, greek yogurt, deli slices, etc. I find it helpful to track my food using an app on my Iphone (myfitnesspal) but at a minimum I would track your protein intake and calories...you want to make sure you are getting enough protein because that will help you feel full longer and will also help keep your energy up (my nutritionist recommends a higher amount that most people are told...80-120 g per day) and you want to make sure you are eating enough calories because too few calories can stall your weight loss. For me, the first several weeks of solids was about figuring out how my band works best for me. I initially stopped losing weight until I bumped my calories up to over 1,000 per day and after some trial and error I have figured out the calorie range that gives me the best weight loss. I also chose to limit carbs to under 40g per day because I have found that works best for me...again, that is my personal decision. Don't be afraid to play around with things for a while...I know the goal is to lose weight but if you can figure out how to best work your band, you will be successful...

4 weeks today and feeling BLOATED and SAD
clc1973 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Today - I was the sexiest shopper in Walgreens - I purchased Gas X strips - because my stomach feels so bloated and almost pregnant - cant even suck it in, and I am constipated, so I bought liquid stool softener - on top of that gorgeousness, I also have a cold - so threw in some cold medicine. I have been up and down the same 3 pounds for 4 days - taking in MAYBE 600 calories a day - and exercising...I think my body is revolting against me...please tell me this will go away soon and the weight will drop again! -
to gain weight, one more take in more calories than they burn off..so as maddy stated, get back to what your dr advised you: your allotted amount of food, drink alot, fresh vs proessed, drink alot and def focus on protein..it keeps you full longer and fuels your body..best of luck on making that new baby (and have fun making it also)

Why am I craving chocolate every day?!?!
Daisalana replied to mandi78's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
You could be craving chocolate, because your body is craving sugar. If you're use to eating a lot of sugar, then stop eating a lot of sugar, just like your body craving anything it feels it needs.. it thinks it needs sugar! Mine is fruit.. when my body is aching for sugar, I get cravings for fruit.. all kinds.. and I don't really like fruit all that much! I like the 100 calorie packs of Pepperidge farm dark chocolate chip cookies.. num num. -
This may sound strange but I JUST happened on the Low Carb Banders Unite forum on here. Mostly I hang around the general discussion part. I had no idea there were low carb banders. I am happy to see there are other banders who agree that high protein/low carb WILL work. My fill doctor said, it's not about carbs, fat, etc. it's about calories. I agree to a certain point. However, in the past I've always done really well doing low carb, like a mix of the Atkins and South Beach diets BUT would get discouraged when stalling after the Water weight came off. I know deep inside, that high Protein, low carb is the way to go FOR ME. It keeps my blood sugar steady, which helps with cravings, etc. Somehow I always knew I could stick it out if I had help, which I now have with the band! I am soooo happy! so happy, so happy.... really, you don't even know. We know our own bodies and how can thousands of other low carbers be wrong? I am tickled PINK...

Hello Everyone. Well I’m 5 days post op, I was banded on 8/22/11. I must admit, it was a lot more pain than I thought it would be but the hospital was wonderful. The second and third days were by far the worst and everyday I feel better and stronger. I am only able to eat (or drink I should say) 300 calories a day. I should be getting 400 to 800 but my stomach is just still to swollen for any more. I have been making sure I drink all my Water and I walk around as much as I can. The Gas X have really helped with the gas. This journey is an amazing one, I’ve learned the past week that it’s going to take work because although your stomach says one thing our brain says another. I am looking forward to my new lifestyle and I wish you all the best. To all the Pre-Op patients, all I can say is give your body time to heal and remember to drink/eat slowly. SO very important!!!

Has anyone taken a month long break from active weight loss? Was it hard restarting the weight loss phase? I had major surgery the first week of December. The week prior I had to stop going to the Y due to Covid concerns. I admit I lost focus when it came to diet while recovering. I've increased my calories, especially carbs, more than I should have. But I didn't gain! I finally got the ok to start exercising again and I'm ready to focus on diet. Prior to surgery I was close to my goal weight but hadn't officially entered the maintenance phase. I'm curious if I can expect my weight loss to resume as prior to surgery or can I expect it to be more challenging since I have been in a 4 week self induced stall? Any insight will be greatly appreciated.

Break from active weight loss?
It's time. replied to a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, I am doing exactly that. From Thanksgiving to today I have eaten what I wanted but sensibly, keeping track of my calories about 1/3 of the days. I didn't gain, but I also didn't deprive myself of the foods I enjoy. I also overindulged a handful of times. I don't feel guilty and as of today I am following my program, wanting to lose another 15 pounds. Back to basics and plenty of protein! I haven't entered the maintenance phase either. I did this on purpose. I'm not sure if it was a good idea or not. We will see in the coming weeks. -

Calories At Almost 6 Weeks Post Op
Meli01 replied to sexypeaches33's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 3 months post op and I try to keep my calories under 600 and my carbs under 20. -
I am a week out having trouble reaching 1200 calories. I dont have any desire to eat so I try to add things to try to reach my goal but i barly hit 1000 calories a day and i know that is to low. I was hoping today with mushies to get more calories but so far have only done 360 calories and had breakfest and lunch and not desired any snacks.

I would speak to your doctor and ask if he really intends for you to eat only 3/4 c of food in TOTAL for a day for the rest of your life (or until you get to goal). There is no possible way for you to get enough calories to even get out of bed in the morning on that amount of food. Even twice that amount would be too low. Clearly I'm not a doctor, so take my opinion with a grain of salt... but... wow. I'm just worried about it, that's all...

i went into best buy this morning looking for a new television since my wanna be hip father try to play wii for the first time today and u can guess it, broke my TV:scared2: ugh parents. :tt2:He is on a strict PUNISHMENT LOL. well anyways while i was there i found this book KITCHEN SURVIVAL GUIDE COOK THIS NOT THAT I find it to be very informational, the first chapters tells you what type of pots and pans you need, and it also explain what type utensils you need and all the above mentions is all the tools you will need for the book. Some people may not find that to be important but for me it was because i am about to move out on my own and i never cooked anything until now (had to heat up some broth) lol and i don't even know if thats cooking lol This book has sooooo many recipes that you can learn and see the full nutritional values, and there is a couple of pages that compares items. for example: have this in your pantry ....... Smucker's natural Peanut Butter creamy ................................... don't have this in you pantry ....... jiff reduced fat and it explains why by saying your trading hydrogenated oils and corn syrup for more healthy fat (small excerpt) I took a pic as you can see below of one particular recipe.. yogurt parfait ................ made @ home the calories are 330 G fat (3.5 sat) 34G sugar ................... but if getting from Au bon pain its 700 calories (4 sat) 91G sugar Has anyone else brought this book and cooked anything out of it?

I had a morphine drip (which was optional and extra believe it or not) to which I had a button to push for pain post-op. I must say that I was kinda abusing that, as the anesthesia nurses came to check the remaining volume and noticed I had been too button happy .. anyhoot, when they decided to remove my IV when I was clear to drink Water and diluted sports drink, I asked that they keep the morphine in but they refused and took it away. So, my op was at noon on Feb 8th, and I awoke around 4 or 5PM, I had the morphine until the next day around 6PM. After they un-hooked me from the drip stand, I was "weened" from pain medication. the only thing I could feel were my two holes where those rack things went in and the actual larascopic wound around my belly button. But I felt no pain internally by the second day of the op. May be there was some "memory pain" from the gas they pumped in, but for me that was very very minor. But then I'm probably one of your lighter candidates with a pre-op BMI of 36. I figure the heavier you are perhaps the more gas they would have to pump to keep the "ceiling of operation" up and the more pain you would feel post op. The biggest thing I would think for you at this time would be the liquid only diet, which will make you hungry all the time. I know I was for the first week as I average only 500 calories per day and wound up losing nearly 16 lbs in 7 days. Try to drink some un-diluted sports drink which has more calories that might give you a bit more ooomph than I had. I basically did NOT want to move around at all for the first week becuz I knew I had no "go juice" in me from what "they" were giving me (that inluded my mom's strict following of the recommended menu that had zero taste for a whole week before I got strained apple juice and strained clear chicken broth which felt like meals fit for kings at the time compared to the third world prison diet I was getting the first 7 days). Hope that helps!

I was released from te hospital after a two day stay and put on full liquids for two weeks and then two weeks of puréed. I was told I could have alcohol six weeks after surgery. They frown upon it because it's liquid calories. I am 27 years old and would like to have a glass of wine every now and again.

Yes, I would consider it exercise. You burn 200-300 calories per hour

Okay, I'm sure that some of you are probably wondering why I never thought to ask my doctor this before, but I really didn't think about this until now. After you get a few fills under your belt and actually begin to feel restriction, how do you manage to eat a healthy amount of calories. I know my doctor told me to try and finish my meal within 20 minutes. So, how do you finish your meal in that amount of time while taking only tiny bites and chewing everything over and over? I just don't see how it will ever be possible to eat a cup of food within 20 minutes without eating too fast and getting sick. So, is this just my thinking or is this really possible?

Got a date...anyone else having surgery October 7th?
msspiceybaby replied to hharrison43's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Good you started out with samples. I did not. When I was during my 6 months, I bought some different proteins. I got the large containers. I did try Body Fortress triple chocolate,I mixed it with dark chocolate silk milk,Hershey chocolate powder,Hershey syrup and ice and blend. It was really good even my grandchildren liked it. Only thing was I didn't measure because I was making a whole container. I need to scale it down and count calories. I did buy some sugar-free Hershey chocolate. I got that at Wal-mart. I bought the Fuzzy Navel added Crystal light(orange a whole container)and I may have used some diet jello. I don't remember if mixed with water or milk but it was horrible to me and my kids. So once again the samples are the best way to go.I bought some already mixed protein shakes that I read about on the forum. I'll have to try Muscle Milk,Premium, I got some Simple Start Breakfast it has 15g of protein, but it has 14g of sugar. I haven't found out what the sugar and carb count will be. I ordered Genepro from Amamzon its suppose to be tasteless, odorless, and blends well with hot temp.
