    5 Weeks Post-Op

Hi! I had my surgery about 5 weeks ago too on April 4th. I still have the restrictions and can’t really eat past 2-3 ounces but I am noticing myself getting more snacky in between meals, so that is a bit concerning to me as well. As silly as it sounds I have been starting to worry that my stomach is growing back lol. In the beginning I wouldn’t feel so snacky but now I am, and not to mention the infamous 3 week stall I have hit for 2 weeks now! But tomorrow is weigh in day and I pray I broke it. i haven’t even eaten fruits yet as my diet says I can’t until like 3months, lucky you because I REALLY want a pineapple. good luck to you and I’m sure everything will be fine. Just try to track what you’re eating it really makes a difference and makes you more conscious, so even if you don’t feel the restriction you are still putting nutrients and protein in your body.

    Weight stall at 9 months

I am 8 months post op and just went through a 3 week stall. Increased exercise and really concentrated on recording my food intake as well as increased walking. I am back to losing. I am not stopping until at my ideal body weight. For years I thought it was impossible to be at ideal weight. After 105 pounds and 14 inches off my waste, 5 inches on my neck and countless other successes, I am going to push through stalls and refuse to settle at a weight my body tries to settle at. I am getting to less than a 25 BMI.

    Weight loss

This is normal. Google the science behind the 3 week stall. It’s the same concept. You had your 2 week diet before surgery (usually) and then you lost a LOT of weight that first week. Your body is balancing out fluids and it will kick back into gear after however many days it takes. Stick to the plan. Don’t cheat. You’re going to see it drop soon. Promise

    Weight gain or standstill

Oh that's because in the hospital they fill you up with tons of water so you don't get dehydrated. Looks like they gave you plenty. It will slowly leave you in the next week or two. Just try and stay off the scales, I know its hard but it does help. You will feel on top of the world when the weight drops but you will get a stall soon too, be prepared. Put ' 3 week stall ' in the search box, it will save you some more worry and disappointment when it happens to you. Keep the faith, this works, it worked for all these others on this forum, you will be fine if you stick fairly close to your recommendations.
  5. Oh my gosh. I just posted AGAIN about another 3 week stall! 🤪 I did a search and found my own post. Anyway, hearing I am again, in another 3 week stall.

    Weight loss stall

[emoji1787][emoji1787] you guys crack me up! That's probably true. Anyway yeah I didn't know about the 3 week stall. Answers me question. I'll try my best to keep off the scales for a bit. Sent from my SM-G975U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Weight loss stall

Yes, stalls are completely normal, even this early. As @summerseeker said above, the "3 week stall" is notorious. It often happens between week 3-6 post-op and can last 3-6 weeks. The reality is, you just had MAJOR surgery. Your body is healing and trying to sort itself out, in addition to massive dietary changes. You need to give yourself lots of grace and just be patient - trust the process. Hit your protein & fluids, eat according to your plan, move your body in ways that feel good and don't cause pain or exhaustion. The scale will move again but it can't be your sole, or even primary, focus. If you have any major concerns, definitely reach out to your surgery team, but for now, your job is to heal and follow your plan!

    Weight loss stall

Just put ' 3 week stall' into the search box. Mine lasted 5 weeks. It does work on your mind but as long as you know you are on the right track, You can not fail. Keep off the scales, Trust the process

    January 2022 Surgery Buddies

Stalls are normal I had one at 3 weeks post op for about a week. Another lady I know at 4 or 5 weeks had a 3 week stall despite getting in her water, protein and exercising. Don’t get discouraged it is part of the journey. When I would have stalls before the surgery when trying to diet I would change my eating for one day. Example if I was doing no carbs and after 2 weeks stalled then I would increase my carbs just for the day and it seemed to help. Now since I had the surgery when I had the stall I just kept the course and weight started coming back off. I had sleeve feb 7th and I am 37lbs down 10 from pre-op liquid and the rest after surgery a little slow to me but I have had some issues and have been unable to tske in protein up until recently. I am now able to drink protein water so hopefully my energy and activity will begin to increase for increased weight loss.
  10. Absolutely. If you ate, say, 600 Calories on a Wednesday. And if, on that Wednesday, you burned, for example, 1800 calories, then you lost body fat. On that day, you lost body fat. And a little of other things, some protein. Not from muscle primarily like people say but from skin and intestinal lining which are high turnover proteins. The scale doesn't always reflect that linearly. You may retain water, or have inflammation. The people who say "I lost 21lb in the first two weeks and in week three I've stalled" - well, it's simple nonsense! They didn't lose anywhere close to 21lb in two weeks. It's takes a caloric deficit of 3500 Calories to lose 1lb which means that they'd have needed a deficit of 5250 Calories per day. Which even if they ran a marathon and ate absolutely nothing, is impossible. So...they almost certainly lost inflammation weight after their operation trauma, glycogen/water if their carbohydrate levels are much lower than pre-operatively and there will be other aspects too like serious dehydration. And this infamous 3 week stall? Well, all those things are largely finished and most people won't be doing the KFC buckets with extra fries in week three, so why is it? Normally increased fibre, giving roughage weight in the intestine and rehydration due to the ability to drink more water.
  11. 3 week stall is what we call it out here, you can search for it on the forum. Majority of us have gone through it. So have I. I lost weight a week after surgery when I was clear fluids, but 3 weeks nada. I stalled for 3 weeks with no weight changes and thereafter it started coming down. Even after the first month, your weight comes down in steps than a constant decline. So you’ll have those phases when you won’t see much movement on the scale.
  12. There are a lot of sources that talk about a "3 week stall" that describes a temporary (maybe 1-4 weeks) halt in weight loss right around this time-- don't worry, it's normal! I've read that it's the body reacting and adjusting to the change (and making sure it's not starving). Some people say they have a big drop right after the stall ends and that they have other signs of 'progress' during this time. It might be a good decision to weigh yourself less frequently, like once a week or so, so that you don't agonize too much over the micro-ups/downs. I personally hit this stall for about a week, quickly lost another 7 lbs and then hovered there for another couple of weeks. Keep doing what you are doing, you are totally on the right track!
  13. Hi guys had my surgery 02/02, start weight was 21.9. I got down to 20.9 before my op on the LRD. first week weigh in after surgery was a loss of 8 pounds and this morning week 2 I’ve lost 3.5 pounds. However I got on the scale Sunday and it showed a 3.5 pound loss then, so in 3 days the scale hasn’t moved and I’m still on liquids? what do we reckon, I’m going to be a slow loser? Or I’ve hit the dreaded 3 week stall early? thankyou.
  14. Don’t fret! It’s normal . I had my surgery on 12/17 and lost 13.5 lbs the first week. I stalled at week 2,3,&4. In week 5 now and the scale is finally moving again.. thank the lord. the 3 week stall can be 3 weeks or less. It doesn’t necessarily start in the 3rd week after surgery, but it’s normal. Just stop weighing yourself b/c if your like me it will make you think you are the problem. It’s common and you will be on your way soon again.
  15. Hello! I started pre-op Nov 17, surgery Dec 1st. I started at 429 and am now 377. I have been stuck for almost 3 weeks at this weight. No changes in measurements or clothing. Nothing has changed. I am getting beyond frustrated. I try and meet protein and water goals every day, but that doesn't always happen. I have tried upping different things( carbs, fat, protein, etc) with no change. Please tell me this is normal? I have heard of the 3 week stall, but this is ridiculous [emoji24] Sent from my SM-N986U1 using BariatricPal mobile app
  16. If you just had the surgery a few weeks ago, you are likely in the 3 week stall. It happens to almost everyone. You will start losing weight again. As others have said, it's completely possible to lose weight and gain it all back. You have to follow the rules of the program, but the restriction is there to guide you... for a time. Hang in there! It's a head game as much as anything.

Prep recommends... I'm six weeks out

Hi fellow Diet Coke addict! I’m 2 months out and haven’t had a sip! Which is crazy because I used to think longingly about my beloved Diet Coke. I had a craving for a Diet Coke last week, but I didn’t have it. Plenty of people do drink it post op, but I sorta said “hi craving, I see you and boy do I miss your crispy zing in my mouth, but I’m good”. Will it also be that easy for me to say no? Probably not. But right now it is. The same can’t be said for food. I’ve pretty much had it all at this point, and I’ve enjoyed it, regretted it sometimes, and moved on. I eat something yummy everyday, just not a lot of it. I’m still figuring this out. Sometimes I eat too fast and just have to ride that wave and tell myself “ok remember this for next time and remember how little your stomach is now”. i focused on drinking water those first 10 days. The first 2 days were tough because of nausea. I did a play by play of the first 2 weeks on here called “post op day 2” if you’re curious about how it felt day by day. currently I mostly eat canned chicken with Mayo (like I truly love it, hahahaha), an egg in the morning, tiny sandwiches (see post, comically small sandwich), honey roasted peanuts, and dinner is just a small portion of whatever my husband is eating… sometimes it healthy, sometimes it’s not. I’m not as strict as most people on here, and that’s ok. I’m learning and living. I’m losing about 2 pounds a week now (with stalls here and there, including the 3 week stall). i have incorporated the premier protein latte flavor daily now (3 weeks post op until I was suppose to wait for caffeine). I sorta have just choke it down bit by bit, but I’m ok with it. i took omeprazole the first month as prescribed and haven’t needed it since. I brought a pair of crocs to the hospital to walk about my room, wet wipes, a medicine cup to sip water, 2 bottles of water, pads (because you’ll likely get your period out of nowhere), night time toiletries ( I didn’t shower there, was only there 2 nights), iPad, phone charger (long), ear buds, and pj pants, tank top with built in bra, and sweater (I was ridiculously cold for a month after surgery). good luck!

    November Surgery Buddies!!!

I guess I am still on the 3 week stall that everyone talks about lol I haven't lost much on my full fluid phase and I have 5 more days on it. Have lost about 2 pounds only last 16 days.
  19. So, me and my partner are surviving off food stamps, as we have to right now, and we are out for the month. That doesn't allow me much in the way of what to eat. The foods I can eat I have to ration. Im 3 weeks po and in the dreaded 3 week stall. I ate ramen noodles and meat last night, because I had to get something in. Don't come at me for choices, how unhealthy, etc etc, because I know. They sat ok, no pain, kinda feels like they may still be sitting this morning? Not sure. Guess I am just looking for reassurance that I will be ok. Sent from my SM-N986U1 using BariatricPal mobile app

    November Surgery Buddies!!!

Just checking in... I am currrently also in my 3 week stall since Monday. Surgery was 11-8. I have lost around 25 pounds to this point since surgery. Just trying to keep my head up and focus on protein first and liquids!
  21. No, you're not doing anything wrong. https://www.bariatricpal.com/search/?q=3 week stall

    Type of diet?

My clinic's nutritionist was on board the low-cal train—and I actually stopped losing weight for a while because of it (not just the 3-week stall). It all came to a head (there's a post elsewhere on here about this) and I fired her. My new nutritionist has me on a balanced diet of proteins, carbs, and fats, based on my activity level (active). I intake 1000-1400 cals a day depending on actual activity level; most programs are far less. And I feel like all I do is eat and drink 🤣 I will say this: fats are essential for hormone regulation, ESPECIALLY for people for whom estrogen is the primary hormone.

3 weeks post op - static weight

My 3 week stall happens to coincide with my menstrual cycle - oh joy 😕
  24. Catwoman is right. You are in the dreaded 3 week stall. It is incredibly frustrating because you went through all of the work for surgery and then ... nothing. I lost 24 pounds in the first 2 weeks. I lost 6 pounds over the next 18 days. Lost 36 pounds in the last 44 days. For the next 2 weeks, either don't step on the scale or step on it expecting no weight loss. Go only by what you feel (energy levels, etc.) and if your clothes start to fit better.

    Any October 2021 Surgeries?

You are spot on with what you say, I’m 3 weeks post op and it’s been the toughest journey I’ve ever walked and I’ve been up and down throughout these 3 weeks. it’s not easy. I know it will get easier but I’ve been down every other day as apparently with fat loss your estrogen levels rise and that causes feeling down so that sucks. Im still finding it hard to get my fluid intake in and in turn now today have a migraine probably due to dehydration. im eating soft food and cracker crisp bread with a little cheese or chicken with avocado or yeast extract. Ive gone off eggs, that’s a shame. my sense of smell and taste seems so different, I don’t know if anyone else’s has changed? I’ve lost a total of 17lbs since my op and lost 16 with pre op diet. I feel like it’s slow this week like a quarter of a pound but I’ve been told there is a 3 week stall. I’m really fed up with the down days. Ive not gone back to work yet. Took another week off. Im really struggling today. I’m sorry to be so negative but when I read your insert and though you are so right, people need to know complications can arise as issues and to know you will need support.
