Starting my mushies today!!!!!! Some things on my list say to purée and some don't. I kinda thought we had to purée everything right now. For instance, it says I can have yogurt for breakfast. Do I need to throw it in the nutri bullet first?

Transtioning to solids?
Wonder WomanNJ replied to avremy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The baked Beans out of the can aren't too good for you but you can make your own and puree them, that is what I do. You can also make lentils in the same fashion. With the beans though, puree manually using a strainer so that you don't get any of the skin which in my head, can pose a potential problem. It makes a nice paste. You can also have yogurt, bananas (smashed), sweet potatoe, ricotta cheese and cottage cheese. I too experimented with lean chicken and turkey slices and it goes down well. LIke the other users have said, don't experiment with too much at one time. -
How do I know I'm full?
theatrejo replied to theatrejo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This morning I've had 1 oz Protein shake, 2 oz apple juice, 1 oz carnation instant Breakfast, and 1/2 Whipped Yogurt (Yoplait). Now I am starting on Water to get some of this "sweet" out of my mouth. Ug. I'm not focussing on food, just hydrating. Its just hard to hydrate and meet my goals. Im at work already so sometimes I get caught up and forget to drink. I set a timer on my phone. Lets see if that helps. -
Just wondering.

My tastes have not changed but they have came more extreme. Things that I was lukewarm on pre-op like scrambled eggs, I hate post-op. Never liked yogurt, despise yogurt now. Loved fish before, really love fish now. -

I'm 11/14 too and I'm just now trying some purred veggies and pulled chicken. I did well on yogurt and 4 shakes a day but I'm ready to move on. I can't tell if I'm full or there's gas bloating me but I try and stop eating before it's too much. Down 30 lbs so far and I don't see it stopping If I keep this type of diet up. Just say no to from frozen yogurt!!!!!! If you want yogurt in a Protein shake add Greek yogurt a couple ice cubes (you can even make fat free frozen milk cubes) and mix in a blender. Hampton Beach personal blender is fabulous on ice. Add splendra to sweeten. Don't fool yourself that adding frozen yogurt to a Protein Shake makes it healthy.

Best Post-Surgery Habit
cindymg replied to light_lady's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yeah, really, it took some doing. I never really even liked regular yogurt until after my sleeve. But, oddly my tastes have changed. I don't eat sugar, so I buy the 0% Plain and start doctoring. Try making cheesecake yogurt: one 4 or 5 oz container of plain Greek yogurt, Splenda to taste, tsp of Cinnamon, and a tsp or so of good vanilla (the real stuff, not the fake). Or, get some sugar- free fruit preserves. Whole Foods makes a delicious Wild Blueberry. A tsp of that in 4 oz of plain yogurt, then Splenda to taste. It's my late night snack (beats the huge bowl of ice cream I used to have every night). I don't have any smoothie recipes, but a friend makes her smoothies with Greek yogurt for the added Protein. She is using the Davinci syrups and agave, I think. -
Best Post-Surgery Habit
cindymg replied to light_lady's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Tracking my food and exercise using MyFitnessPro. Not drinking while I eat and waiting 30 minutes after eating to drink. I actually eat less! Finding excuses to exercise, i.e. parking farther away than I would have in the past and walking instead of driving. Helps that I'm not dragging around the extra weight. Learning to LOVE Greek Yogurt!! -
Random sneezing
Kimba Maria Wiggins replied to april_MKZ's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This just happened to me recently. I was on the bus and I was randomly sneezing and I didn't know why. Normally I would eat my breakfast (yogurt) on the way to my destination but this time I didn't and was sneezing until I got off the bus and ate my normal breakfast. -
I had been taking them before surgery and will continue again once I heal and can swallow a capsule. I never had that problem before surgery though. I took a heavy pro-biotic supplement with minimum 10 strains. Maybe go back to the miralax and eat yogurt for a while and see what happens. That sounds more like allergies or not enough Fluid intake, maybe?

I dont see why not, thats whats in the yogurt that we eat. I would take them :-)

I was told no seeds till 3 months, too. For me, presweetened/flavored yogurts always tasted way to sweet (even before surgery). I use plain Fage or Chobani yogurt and flavor it to my liking using Torani syrups, honey, Protein powder or pureed fruit. Gives me a much better protein/carb ratio and the flavors are nearly endless....vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, cherry, English toffee, raspberry, tiramisu, lime, mango, coconut, peach, hazelnut, Peanut Butter, almond, pumpkin pie, banana, blueberry, salted caramel, etc.

So I had my surgery on September 30th and I'm happy to say that things went relatively well. I only had three things I struggled with after surgery. 1. Immediately waking up I was miserable. They gave me everything they legally could and I still thought I was going to die for like 4 hours. 2. My heart rate. At "resting" it was at 115. When I wasn't feeling good it would get over 140. So they watched my heart really close. I think a lot of it was hospital anxiety. They finally got it to calm down with Valium at like 3 in the morning but by calm I mean 110. 3. Peeing. I know tmi but honestly it was the hardest part. My sips were fine. Swallowing was easy. But when it came to going to the bathroom I couldn't go. On surgery day I had to have a catheter because my bladder reached 800cc (catheter requirement is 500cc). I had the catheter over night and when they took it out the next morning I couldn't go on my own. Eventually my bladder got over 500cc again so they used a straight catheter. I didn't go on my own until late that night. THEN I got to go home. I still struggle now. I have to have Water running and use a wet cloth to get me to go. It's weird but it works. In the hospital they tried peppermint oils, showers, everything. It was so frustrating. Now I'm home and I weighed myself. I've lost five pounds already which is odd. Not complaining but I was expecting a weight gain from fluids and swelling. I struggle with Protein. Yogurt feels good in my pouch. The hardest part about being home is my family honestly. All I hear is: walk faster, walk more, you don't need your pain pills, how's that baby food taste?, don't you wish you could have a pop tart. They actually went grocery shopping specifically for junk food because they know I can't eat it and then ordered pizza. When I said something about it "I wasn't being compassionate" and "I knew what I was getting into".... Mk so let's send an alcoholic to a 12 step program just for them to come home and be like "look at all the booze we bought". I literally just cried. This whole process they were supportive saying we "are all making changes together" and I come home to this. I feel alone. I feel like it's not fair. I've worked really hard to change my life and I feel like I'm being punished because I chose wls. can anyone else relate?

I Don't Know If I Can Do This
bandster_1007 replied to nessa3678's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
when i was in your situation, i called my doctor. and i was in your situation, exactly 8 days after surgery. i was lucky, my doctor told me to go ahead and move to mushies. there is theory that rushing your diet can lead to slippage. my doctor has done over 1000 bands, with no slippage, so i trust him. anyways, i called my doc and told them that i was starving right after i would eat a whole can of pureed Beans. she said, move to mushies. since then, i get full fast and stay full. don't feel like a failure, you are not. you are human, and your swelling has probably just gone down faster, which is a good thing. this stage is very hard (i'm struggling on mushies with head hunger). you'll get through this..and besides think, before band what all else would you have eaten with that baked potato. i know for me it would have been a whole chicken sandwich, a yogurt, & a large coke. that's A LOT more calories than just the potato. -
I Don't Know If I Can Do This
IndioGirl55 replied to nessa3678's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I hate to tell you this but - you are going to feel hungry at times.. I still think i am hungry after i have eaten and I am truely tummy full - it's because i only ate 1 cup of whatever and not 3 bowls full and i still want to taste the food. They banded your tummy not your brains - the band is only going to do 25% of the work and the other 75% is up to you. Weight loss is about calories in and out - but most of our problems isn't that our tummies are hunger it's cuz our heads are telling us we need that seretonin to calm us so we eat to create more seretonin. What you need to do is make healthy food choices - low calorie food - low in fat and sugar free until you have proper restriction - (which can take a while) when I am hungry and still want to eat I eat extra veggies. Make soupy instant mash potatoes with skim milk only no Water a tad of butter salt and pepper - creamed Soups helped me too - if you are on mushies cook up some zuchinne (over cook) drain, mush it up add some I can't beleive it's not butter spray - salt & pepper and go to town.. When you make your protien shakes add some banana - or frozen fruit and yogurt to them - makes they yummier and more filling. Have a sf pudding or fudgecicle - I am almost 4 months out and still get hungry and bad food go thru the band with no problem even with proper restrictions. You gotta do the head work too and true think am I really hungry or is it just cuz i am so use to eating so much more and a whole different type of foods. Good Luck - Welcome to band land.... -

Yup, poor little tummy has been sliced, diced and definitely not in the mood! I focused on Protein drinks, greek yogurt and Water. Didn't meet targets for awhile but just kept at it. Hang in there, it does get better ☺️ -

Suggestions for new Pre-ops?
Kimbero replied to JessieGrace319's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hi Jessie welcome to the group I am almost 6 weeks post-op had the gastric bypass and I absolutely love it I was also told by all of my doctors my surgeon my nut my primary care physician that I was a perfect candidate and that I would be very successful at it. So far I'm over 50 lbs down and thankfully has no issues with sickness, dumping, was in the hospital one night had surgery about 1 in the afternoon was home the next morning by 10 I have an office job so I took less than a week off my doctor said as long as I did not lift anything heavier than a gallon of milk I would be okay all of my wounds have completely healed and I have little bitty scars that you can barely see I have one scar that is a little larger than the other four. My suggestion is listen to what you're told read up on everything that you can and take it real slow I ask my surgeon why there were so many people that had issues whether it's be being able to keep food down keep water down not feeling nauseous and he just said that if you listen and don't overdo it you should be fine I am now able to eat soft stuff so mashed potatoes yogurt tuna ice cream anything that can pretty much dissolve oatmeal and about 2 to 3 bites and I'm full good luck to you on your journey and sorry this was so long Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G930A using BariatricPal mobile app -
The programs are all so different that it really depends on the preferences of your surgeon/team. I received a whole bound book covering what is and is not allowed. My program requires protein shakes, clear liquids and greek yogurt for the first two weeks, advancing to pureed foods after that for the next 4 weeks.. On purees, I can have chicken, fish, beans, tofu, cottage cheese, greek yogurt, some cooked veggies and fruits well as the clear liquids stuff. They want 4-5 meals per day consisting of no more than 1/4 cup of the above. I also have 1-2 protein shakes to meet protein goals. Unlike many on here eggs, oatmeal and avocados are not allowed. I go back in 2 weeks and then start solid foods. I am a little worried about the proteins because the pureed ones are a bit hard to get down without adding liquid (broth, yogurt, mayo) to the food processer. I did some pureed baked salmon yesterday that was great!! Good luck!!

I'm 9 days post op. I'm sorry you are feeling hungry. On your full liquid diet can you have yogurt, pudding and cottage cheese? I can. I wouldn't say I feel full, but I'm not hungry either. Sometimes when my family is eating I feel a little pang, but it's emotional. I'm at McDonald's right now and my nephew is in the playland. My sister and he are eating and I sort of want it, but I'm managing with my unsweet tea. Today at Publix I found a Wolfgang Puck Organic butternut squash soup. It was really good and felt satisfied after I had a small amount. Keep trying different things and good luck. This part won't last forever.

Genepro protein powder is the best! It is odorless and tasteless. I order mine from Amazon and I make smoothies with it and I mix it in my yogurt and hot chocolate. Doesn't change the taste or texture at all.

It's time to buy my proteins! Huzzah! This was discussed in my class, but I clearly didn't retain this information. I have two questions on the pre/post op liquid diets. As I recall, liquid was define as anything in a liquid state at room temperature. This included popsicles, broth, shakes, etc. So question one: Does yogurt count? I'm not sure how I'd define that consistency! I've found a bunch of Greek yogurt flavors (without that I enjoy and would love to put them into rotation during this time if I'm allowed. Secondly: How many of these per day am I supposed to have? Obviously there's the breakfast/lunch/dinner ones. Do I have a full shake for 2 Snacks a day as well? For those of you in the pre/post op liquid diet or who remember theirs, I'd love to hear when and what you ate!

I know how you feel! I am 6 days postop. This last week has been really hard. I had a little of a rougher time than most other people seem to have with the surgery. I've had a lot of pain from the gas and generally have felt very uncomfortable. I did clears for two days then full liquid up till now. I am soooo bored with the things I am able to eat. I was allowed during this time to have no chunks yogurt and sugar free pudding. Also, the last couple of days I went to Jasons deli and got a couple of Soups and just didn't eat anything chunky out of them. And, I have been super hungry at times. Tomorrow I start the blenderized (puree) part of my diet. I can have some more things. I'm excited. Just keep focused on why the doctors want you to slowly progress your diet. A big cup of warmth beef broth helped me feel full many times. You can do it!
