My surgery is scheduled for Tues 01-08 with Dr Leduc in Las Vegas at SWCC. Getting a little anxious but so ready to go!

    December 2018 Sleevers!

I am sitting down when I spin mostly and not to strenuous , they have said a stationary bike is ok so I fee like it’s the same . Doc said I am cleared for everything after 4 weeks .. 10 days to go .. but I worked out a fair bit before surgery ..
  3. Same for me. Was sleeved 12/14 and I don’t feel much difference. I can drink no problem, and I mean big gulps! I’m hungry all the time. Not the old hungry, but a not real satisfied hungry. I eat something every two hours. About 1/2 cup to a cup. I’m never overly full. It’s hard to explain. I tolerate everything I’ve tried so far. Haven’t lost that much either. I had lost 10 pounds at my one week appt but have only lost 2-4 since then. I try not to weigh often as to not get discouraged. Waiting for this restriction to kick into high gear! 4. My hubby is also the Nervous Nelly of our house. Remind yours that you've both been through this type of surgery before. Try to get him to focus on the future, not the present. What the two of you will be doing in a year, in 5 years, in 10 years. How does that future look without the surgery? Best of luck with your surgery!

  6. If you have a Dillard's near you, they sell them up to 37/38 lengths with still a size 19 or 20 neck (look in the big and tall section). So does does Destination XL (DXL). You can also find LT, 1XT, 2XT, and 3XT sizes at Dillard's in their big and tall section.

    December 2018 Sleevers!

I had my surgery 12/10/2018. I'm new to the forum thing. I had to visit the doctor 6 consecutive months for weigh-ins and to turn my food diary. Does anyone know of a good protein powder? Also is anyone else having pain in your lower abdomen around the belly button and also under your ribs in upper abdomen?
  8. I have to wear a suit soon. My shirt fits in neck and arms. It is a little small but manageable around waist but the length is too short. I have a 19 34/35 and 20 34/35 that fit but the length is too short. Does anyone know if you can buy shirts that are longer without going to large in other parts of the shirt? I was going to try big and tall xl store. Thanks in advance Sent from my SM-G960U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Tips for Stopping Caffiene

I also have a six Diet Cokes a day habit, and I think that might be harder for me to quit than some of my favorite foods! I have gastric bypass in February 2019 and am hoping to taper off slowly until then.
  10. MikeII, I understand what you are saying--I had certainly not heard about many of the issues that can arise after surgery. (My gastric bypass is scheduled for February 2019.) However, it hasn't caused me to have any doubts. I'm grateful I've found this forum because it will make me better informed about the process and I can hopefully avoid some problems as a result. It's also incredibly reassuring to know that so many people have been through this and are doing well, in spite of a few bumps in the road. I no longer feel so alone!
  11. I have bypass surgery in February 2019 and have been wondering the exact same thing! My family and close friends know what I'm doing, but my issue is work colleagues. I have told my supervisor that I will need two weeks off for surgery. She didn't ask for details, but I have no doubt colleagues will once I get back--and I do not want to share it with them.
  12. I'm a newbie here with bypass surgery scheduled for February 2019. Like many of you, I've never been big on exercise, and I know that will become a big part of my life post-surgery. I can definitely commit to walking every day, but I can't see myself going to the gym. Would a brisk walk every day be enough, or is it going to slow my weight loss? I'd appreciate insight from those on the other side!

@johnson My kids eat junk food all of the time. Cake, cookies, you name it. They can do that and burn it off and get away with it. So I’m not Scrooge. They deserve to enjoy the gift of a youthful metabolism. :) I exercise pretty hard. Five days of weight lifting alternating two ways: upper body then legs. Then I alternate by lifting heavy then light. I do seven days of walking between 15-20k steps. I hit stalls along the way too and how I shortened them was to actually eat more. Anytime I stalled more than a week I’d up my calories 200 and protein by 10. At this point I am eating 2200 calories and 190 protein a day. But my resting BMR at my goal weight will be 2400. So 2200 calories is about where I should be since I am 31 lbs from my goal weight. I want to be at 2400 calories by then and just stick there.

    Second thoughts

I have been thinking about surgery for years and keep second-guessing myself. Everyone around me says that I just need to "try harder," but I'm the one who has been yo-yo dieting for decades and always gaining the weight back. Unless you have struggled with weight issues yourself, you can't understand what it's like. I finally pulled the trigger and am having gastric bypass in February 2019, and I'm going through with it this time. This is for me, my health and my future, and I don't care what anyone else thinks.

I LOVE MY SURGEON. I am scheduled with him for tomorrow noonish for gallbladder removal. He came by to see me personally in the ER after he got out of a 10 hr surgery. He also explained that he made my stomach slightly larger because some surgeon's make them too small which causes issues swallowing and that if later on in life a patient develops an ulcer that doesn't heal, they have to remove the pouch entirely.. so he leaves a tiny bit more so if that ever were to happen, I would still have a stomach. Which makes so much more sense now that I'm not on drugs from my endoscopy. Anyways, they are admitting me tonight. Surgery tomorrow. Thank God! Sent from my SM-G930R4 using BariatricPal mobile app

When can we eat salad again?

It's best to check with your team for their timeline but just for a frame of reference, I had my bypass in Aug. Started trying raw veggies in Oct-major fail! Tried again in Nov, some luck with iceberg lettuce salads. Carrots still very bad!! December I have had better luck with raw celery and salad greens although salad tends to be a slider food for me, just a vehicle for dressing, yikes! Carrots, still not great. Now in 2019, I'm turning over a new leaf-screw carrots! Eating protein with shredded lettuce garnishes is working for now.

    ❤ JANUARY 2019 CHALLENGE ❤

Proudest moment in 2018 - hmmm more than one I'm afraid When the physician's assistant said I had 'little legs' when she gave me a shot in my knee - I didn't register a word she said after that! When I had 'thigh gap'..... When I fit into size 10 jeans, I came busting out of the fitting room and shouted it out right there in Macy's!

    Rant about a friend

I'm really frustrated with my best friend and I'm not sure what I'm gonna do about it so I came here to rant into the abyss. She said some hurtful things that I'm having a hard time letting go of. Every time we speak she comments about needing to get on track with her diet so that I don't pass her up. It sucks! I didn't realize that my role in our friendship was being the fat one and I guess it's important to her that it stay that way. She is also overweight but has never been morbidly obese. My current weight is probably about where her highest weight has been but she is less right now. Every time we speak she asks me how I'm doing with my weight loss and asks a lot of detailed questions most of which I'm happy to answer as we've been friends for 10 years. Then 2 weeks ago, she sent me a text saying that she doesn't want to talk to me right now because watching me lose weight and looking better is upsetting to her. She said it is triggering her eating disorder of which I was unaware. I responded compassionately even though I was upset and told her it was ok for her to be honest with me about her feelings. I expected to give her some time and space and see how things go but she texts me almost every day with something sad and horrible about missing her mom or depression or anxiety or her wife or her son's behavior problems and it feels like she's leaning really heavily on me. This might just be a season in our friendship were she needs more support than I do right now. But it's hard for me to hang in there when she says unsupportive things to me and then expects me to just keep responding to 2am texts. Luckily for both of us she lives in another state so she never has to see the look on my face when she makes those comments. I only told 5 people about my surgery: my mom, my 2 sisters, my husband and my best friend. She lives in another state and we probably only talk about once a month these days. I was counting on her as part of my support system. She is going through a lot, like all of us. She suffers from depression, struggles with money, has some family issues and lost her mom a year ago. I love her and I worry about her. It makes me sad that I feel like our friendship is not healthy for me.
  20. And NYJenn, I hope 2019 has so good answers for you. Has a pattern showed up any in your food journal? When do you see your doctor again?
  21. And now I cycled back to 12 on,12 off January 1st, my labs are all coming back wonderful so that is something to be happy about this New Years 2019. What happens next? IDK but like the Late Paul Harvey, I do want to" know the rest of the story!"

Dec 2018 - May 2019 Dietician Consult Buddies?!

I hope you guys can get scheduled ahead! Mine was a 12 month program and they wouldn't send it for approval til after the 12 months and the required 10% loss (which ended up taking me 23 months, not 12) and then they still wouldn't schedule until after the insurance approval (which was first denied, then appealed, then overturned). I hope for everyone to get what they need as soon as possible!! Sent from my Pixel 3 using BariatricPal mobile app

Dec 2018 - May 2019 Dietician Consult Buddies?!

You rang? I started my consult in Dec as well, my last nutrition group visit is 05/10! I wonder when my surgery will be scheduled. If anyone pops in here that has completed the 6 month pre-op process, did your surgeon schedule surgery after the 6 months or during?
  24. Hey Everyone, I'm new to the forum and my sleeve surgery is scheduled for the first week in April. I was hoping to get some advice on what your post op hospital stay was like? The hospital I am going to is about an hour away from home so we wont be able to come back and forth. My husband is going to stay with me the whole time. What advice do you have on what to pack for me and him? How long did you stay at the hospital? Did you have visitors? Anybody have a longer ride home? Just trying to get some ideas since we will be farther away. Thank you! This forum has already given me such great ideas and advice to help calm some of my nerves. 25. I am pre-op, but my instructions say no lifting more than 10 pounds, no reaching (details in the attachment), so I vote with the others, definitely get the surgery after your move!
