    Air Bubbles???

I also get air bubbles whenever I eat or drink anything, mostly ok, just annoying, but sometimes a bit painful. I have learnt never to drink anything before, during or after eating, but that doesn't really seem to help with the bubbles. Worst at the moment is when I first go to bed and have had anything to drink within the previous hour, then I have to keep sitting up to get rid of them and occasionaly heave. My last fill was over 7 weeks ago and the night time bubbles have just become an issue in the last week, not sure why??
  2. you should lose more weight as long as you're sticking to the plan. I had a two-week stall within the first month after surgery. Actually, I know someone who had a 3.5 week stall early out - so maybe you'll be OK. Just remember to keep following your plan...
  3. I was approved for bypass this week and have a tentative date of January 8th. It took a long time to get my approval and during that time did a lot of additional research and now feel the sleeve is the right choice. Has anyone been approved for one type of surgery then after insurance approval decided on the sleeve? I'm not sure what to do. My current surgeon doesn't do the sleeve so I will have to find a new surgeon too.
  4. Call the other doctor's office and explain what your going through..... If they take you and make you an appointment in a heart beat go and see what your options are at this stage of the game. That's what I did when my 1st surgeon's office blew me off after being approved and the office manager treated me like crap. Come to find out they did this to many of their patients after I looked into it...... So I switched surgeons and I coulldn't be happier. It only took me weeks to get my band - They even let me pick the date I wanted since I waited so long.... Due to my mistreatment from the other doctor's office. Do what feels right - you have choices and if something in your head and heart tells you something is not right - run don't walk from this doctor's office. Best to you.
  5. If you stick to the plan you will lose more weight. My longest stall was 28 days and it was pure torture. the best thing to do is stay off the scale and follow your plan and it will work itself out. I promise......
  6. Alright, how long does this "gas" stuff last. I still have very painful pain in my shoulder that comes and goes. Also have a lower left pain way down in the lower part of my stomach. It comes and goes too. They are both very painful when they are present. I have been walking and up and about when I can stand it. Also I can't eat much, which I know is a good thing, but I've only had about 400 calories today and fill totally full. I'm worried I won't get enough food. I start mushie foods next week, hope I can eat some more by then. I just want to feel healthy and I tire easily now. It has just been 10 days since my band. Other than that no problems with the actual incisions or pain in or around them. Just wondering if any of this is normal. Just need some reasurring. Thanks:smile2:
  7. Had a really good run to start 10 kilos in 13 days. But for the last six nothing. Us this normal. Heart breaking considering what I just put my body through. I am suffering pain when I eat and can only manage two to three spoonfuls at any one time then I have to stop what I am doi g for an hour to allow my stomach to settle from the pain. Please has anyone got any ideas. I am off to doc tomorrow as very worried

19 Days Post No Loss Is 6

Actually..... it was my mistake - the 3 week stall does happen at 3 weeks - and lasts for different lengths of time - I misinterpreted (msp?) your question. my goof kathy
  11. June 10th - a GREAT day, my three year anniversary!!! Congrats to you and welcome to the loser's side!! You are fine, I lost 17 lbs my first month, I never lost that much again in one month. I'm not sure if I lost 10 lb in a month after that first time. It's ok, I did EVERYTHING I was suppose to do, and nothing I shouldn't. I knew I'd lose, and I did. I lost 23 lbs prior to surgery and the rest in the six months following. I reached MY goal in Dec 2010 with a total loss of 85 lbs. You will be shocked at what you're going to be experiencing a year from now, I promise you!!! It's a wild, wild ride, hold on and enjoy every single part of it......wait till you can see your collar bone, then your hip bones. YES, we do have hip bones!!!! Yay!!! Wait till your clothes are practically falling off of you. Wait until shopping is FUN!!!! Go walk the mall and window shop, get a feel for your "style" - it will be totally different than it is now!!! Wait until someone says you are tiny, small....even skinny!!! It is interesting to meet people who didn't know the "old" you and they comment on how small you are......the first time I looked behind me to see if this sales lady was speaking to someone else!!! I'm serious!!! The fat girl inside me giggled!!! This is fun.....it's all new. It's going to happen. I weigh every single morning, without fail. If I'm at home, I weigh. No way will I let five pounds sneak up on me, and I KNOW for a fact that I can gain five pounds in a week. It's happened to me all of my adult life!! I pay close attention to what is going on. The scale is part of my "dashboard", I count on it, my food scale and my fitness pal to keep everything in check....just like the dashboard in my truck lets me know what's going on under the hood!! See what I mean??!!! Take this time to make changes, make some of these things your new normal.....as natural to you as breathing, that's what I did!!! Good luck, you're going to do great!
  12. I also try to keep a 40/30/30 ratio for protein/carbs/fat. Don't always succeed though. I was told by my NUT to be eating between 800 and 1200 calories per day. I go to the lower end on non workout days, the higher end on workout days. I try to work out 4 to 5 days a week (again, that 5 days doesn't always happen because life gets in the way sometimes. LOL!). I Swim for 45 minutes or so twice a week, do cardio/ heavy weights twice a week and take one class called body works plus abs (which amounts to a fast and light weights) class once a week.
  13. Oh my god, i've got the exact same problem. I came to this site specifically to see if i could find an answer to this question. A short history for me is this. Me and my husband had surgery 1 yr ago. He's had absolutly no complications and eats anything he wants but at a restricted amount. He's nearly at his goal weight and everything's fine. I on the other hand have had nothing but problems from day one. Without fail 2 weeks after every fill i get a blocked feeling. food just won't go down no matter how soft it is, or how well i chew. Most cases i'd end up vomiting to get rid of the blocked feeling. 3 months ago i became pregnant so i had all of the Fluid removed. Was fine to eat for about a month (although i still had to be very careful with what i ate) and then the blocked feeling came back. Went back to see the Dr. and he did this thing where he sucks the air out of the band as well so that the band is flattened (it's supposed to result in feeling like the band isn't their) well that hasn't worked cause the blocked feeling is back. I've vomiting more then ever. I'm really worried as I've kept losing weight even though the band is unfilled. Normally this would be a good thing, but i'm pregnant and i'm sure it can't be good for the baby. Also throwing up after each and every meal is really getting to me. Please please please any advise help would be much appreciated. Katie if you work out a solution pls let me know, I"m really desperate. Oh and my doc's no help, he herds his patients in one after the other and dosn't really like to answer questions. He's advise on my problem was when u give birth we'll remove it ( great help). Thanks again to any advise and sorry this is so long Angel
  14. It has been too hot to walk like I was walking and it has slowed down my weight loss.I really need to be down another 15 pounds by the last week of July for my Vegas trip, self imposed goal. Anyway I will continue on and I am not discouraged, I know it will continue to come off if I don't cheat and work my band like my company works me (not a complaint, glad to have a job). The 4th of July will be different, instead of me grilling, drinking and eating. I will be chill-in. I did buy a brisket for a friend to cook for me, don't know if I can eat it, but will give it a try. Chopped up in the food processor a quarter cup at a time. I have just now begun to get a little solid food down since my tragic chicken episode last week. I also bought another chicken today, took it off the bone and chopped it to shreds, then shredded it with a fork. Maybe and just maybe I will be able to eat some of it. No worries if I don't eat no big deal. I also think my lack of food has stalled my weight loss. Happy 4th of July to everyone.
  15. Im so happy for u....ive heard it takes about a week for reality to set in that the surgery was the best choice! You are affirming that right now :-)

    need some motivation

you should talk to your band doctor it is probably time for an adjustment. you may not make your goal in two weeks, but like others said think about your junior and senior years.

    Going To Meet With Shrink

I would not pay up front without checking with my insurance myself to see if it's covered with that provider. May I ask if you are going to see a therapist that your surgeon wanted you to see? I called my insurance company and got a Complex Case manager (they manage things like folks who have home nursing care, vents, bariatric suregery requests, etc.) and asked that person who my insurance would pay for me to go see for a psych consult for bariatric surgery. She gave me a list of names, and I called the offices and made an appointment. Then the office called my case manager and got the approval code. I had to pay my co-pay which was $15 a visit, but the therapists' office said that even though I was only there for about 1 1/2hrs, it was considered three visits, so altogether it was $45 out of pocket. I still don't get it, but whatever. I saw the therapist for about 45 mins and then sat and took my MMPI-2 (the personality test-in simplest terms) which took me about another 50 mins. Then I did have to go back and retake my MMPI-2 because I scored too high in the K scale (and that means litle, I know, but suffice it to say, I guess I got my money's worth).

    Examples of Meals/portion size

A quarter cup or half cup is too small for a meal. As Heather said, expect to eat between 1-2 cups of food per meal depending what you're eating. Pasta may only be 1 cup; fish, veggies, and rice may be 1.5 cups; and Soup may be 2 cups. Expecting to only eat 1/4-1/2 cup of food per meal is ridiculous. Here's something to think about - I have an overweight cat and she only gets 1/2 c food per day (~150 calories) and she's 14 lbs. If you're 250 lbs, 1/2 c food, three times a day is around 450 calories (if you're eating healthy foods). That's starvation. Whereas 3-6 cups of food a day is approximately 900-1,800 calories a day (depending what you eat). You'll notice that some days you can eat more, some days less. It should all even out to between 1,200-1,500 / day over the week or month and 0.75-1.5 c of food a day will not get you there. There are days when I can't eat Breakfast or lunch, but can drink some Protein. I don't "make up" for it at dinner, instead I eat a small meal at dinner because the band just won't accommodate more. Then there are days I feel like I am eating like I did before the band, when in reality I'm eating around 1,500 calories those days. Ultimately it evens out.
  19. That's great for 1 week out. I always lose weight in my face first. Hopefully the double chin!!!!
  20. I’m about 5 weeks out and have been getting weird burning pains in my throat. I’m on meds for GERD already and they don’t seem to make a difference. The burning is getting super annoying and I can’t fell if it’s gas, indigestion, gerd or what. If I eat when it’s bad it just makes me want to throw up. suggestions?
  21. Hi, Tomorrow I begin the "creamy" stage of my diet. I will be 1 day shy of 1 week post op. Its the craziest thing, but I am a bit nervous. How do you go form liquid to creamy and how do you know how much you can take? I have my Soups all lined up, ready to go and I am really dying to have them. I am just really afraid of overdoing it and getting into trouble. Am i just crazy? I have been starving for almost 3 weeks and now I have the chance to begin eating and I am terrified! WEIRD HUH??? I am even afraid to have my SF hot chocoate today, which I havent had in 3 weeks. Any advice would be so helpful! Thanks!

    Dinner?

I'm 5 weeks out. A big pleasure in my adult life has been spending time in the kitchen creating meals that are unique, visually pleasing. Like chicken piccata with wine garlic sauce, etc. I would take pleasure creating it then enjoying a long dinner with my husband and a glass of wine. These days, I am back to creating these meals (but substituting healthier ingredients). The thing that bothers me is to have this lovely meal with all the aromas, sit down and only be able to eat literally two bites. I am happy to read that it gets better with time. Eventually I hope to be able to eat at least 4 oz or a cup.
  23. So last night ate some ricotta bake got sleeved 6 weeks ago this sixth of July down 50lbs. Following diet on point.. even with a somewhat conservative plan compared to many. Anyways last I woke up feeling like I was choking I messed up ate a little later than I would have like I went to bathroom didn't throw up but spit up brownish sour coffee grind type stuff. Should I be worried stools have not been abnormal and feeling great otherwise. Thanks
  24. Ask your surgeon if he installs any fluid in the band during surgery. I came out with 3cc's already in mine and bandster hell was practically nonexistent for me. I only had trouble the last week before my first fill.
  25. Thanks. It's surreal sometimes to realize that I have lost over 200 pounds. Two hundred pounds! And yet I still feel like the same old Big Sue a lot of the time. TBH, I've been struggling a lot in many aspects of my life, so I'm not in a great place to be offering encouraging words to other WLS patients right now. I do still look at new posts, though, and I have to admire you for sticking around after all these years to educate newbies on things like the three week stall.
