My doc's list of full liquids (they call modified solids) includes all kinds of beans smushed up (refried is one of them), cottage cheese, oatmeal. I get to start these tomorrow, but I'm not going to go crazy right off the bat. I'm thinking mostly yogurt and maybe cottage cheese for the first couple days, then if I tolerate that well I will try the beans.

I love the turkey bites and sticks! I carry yogurt everywhere and I have a fabric lunch bag I use with cold packs. It will keep it cold for over 8 hours. I eat a lot of greek yogurt.

You are so lucky your doc lets you eat soup, pudding and yogurt at 10 days! I could only have liquids until 21 days. I am now on soft foods, but soup and pudding were definitely not recommended. It is just grand being able to at least eat some things, though! Good luck and try to follow your doc's instructions.....

Another Protein Shake Question
thinoneday replied to Teresa 47's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
bless your heart, it is pretty bad when something gets sicking. . .i don't drink them everyday, only every now and then. . .if i find that i want to eat something, i'll try to substitute the meal for one Protein Drink, usually it's thirst and not hunger and the Protein shake does good for me that way. . i have heard along the vine and my doctor, that as long as you get in your 70 grams of protein per day your ok. . it doesn't necessarily have to be with the shakes. . so i count protein grams. . . lots of cheeses, yogurts, soft meats likes chicken and fish. . . good luck! -
so i know you are not supposed to eat while eating and wait 2 hours after your meal but should u also avoid liquids after a snack?? in the morning i have been having half a banana and maybe a yogurt or something before a work out and i usally dont wait 2hrs to drink water (since im working out and "dying" of thirst

2-days post op - Meds?
Lynn Cannon replied to TakingBackChrissy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 3 weeks postop. It’s very difficult! I hope you are crushing your meds - very necessary. Don’t be swallowing whole pills at this point. The med for acid reflux should be a capsule that you can open up. I put the crushed meds on a little yogurt to get it down. You can always call the emergency line for your surgeon or talk to your pharmacist. You are getting rid of the gas from surgery. - will take a while. Take care!!! -
Try chia seeds in the yogurts. It boosts a bit of protein as well as adding a different texture. Suggestion; mixed them in the night before giving it a tapioca feel if that appeals to your tastes.

You can do strained soups and yogurt on full liquids. Not much else. Puréed is the next step. It's hard but hang in here!

Cottage cheese or flavored Greek yogurt (I love Chobani and Liberte brands). Eggface's bites (crustless quiches) which are easy to grab and go. Protein crepes - I make a bunch in advance, fill with almond butter, banana and cinnamon or thin slices of lunchmeat and some cheese, roll them up and wrap them individually in plastic wrap, then put them in a baggie in the freezer. I grab one out in the morning, nuke it for a few seconds and I've got a yummy protein boost breakfast. Protein muffins or Cookies, depending on how far out you are. I make a granola type cookie that's chewy and full of whole grains, dried fruit, nuts and some Protein powder. Same goes for muffins - a great way to get in some Fiber and being homemade they have better ingredients and that protein boost that you won't find in a commercial product. I make several dozen at once and freeze individually the same way I do the crepes. I keep a dozen hard boiled eggs in the fridge at all times. One of those and a cheese stick is an easy way to get 150 calories and 12 grams of protein. And I know you said no shakes but I have one "real" coffee each morning followed by a protein coffee - a scoop or two of my protein powder shaken up with 8 ounces of coffee. I drink it hot or iced, depending on my mood. I'm going to drink the coffee, anyway, so this makes it into breakfast on days I don't feel like eating. Most days I do this, unless I have errands to run and know I'll be busy and need something more substantial. I can also mix with tea and make a chai latte out of it with my some spices and vanilla protein powder. ~Cheri

Suggestions for first day/week of solid foods?
Kami63 replied to ninanew's topic in Food and Nutrition
Today was my forst day as well. I had Greek yogurt for breakfast, no sugar added applesauce for mid morning snack, cheese and thin lunch meat for lunch and beans with cheese with a small amount of avocado for dinner. All measured of course to not go over my surgeon's limit for oz. I had to supplement with a 30g protein shake to hit my protein. Tomorrow I will try a scrambled egg just go with things you like. I spent an hour in the grocery store deciding what to get based on how soft, protein and other nutrition content. I got enough for three weeks I think lol -
Strained cream of chicken soup is still a life saver for me. 6 days post op. Also I'm aloud to put a little non chuck yogurt in my protein shake a blend. That's amazing also! Good luck!

Growing up, the closest thing to a "sugar cereal" on our breakfast table the sugar on the raisins in the box of Kellog's Raisin Bran. I was a full grown adult before I realized that people actually eat Frosted Flakes in a bowl with milk.. For us Frosted Flakes was a "treat" that we could sometimes have sprinkled on ice cream or in our unsweetened yogurt but putting milk in sugared cereal was a sin next to murder. I might have been the only fat kid in America who got fat from OD'ing on Grapenuts.

Hungry Every 2-3 Hours
Tricia39 replied to Tricia39's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, I get 69 grams of protein with my shakes and another 18 from yogurt. My doc said 2 days clears, 2 days liquids and then soft, the nutritionist said the same thing. And when I look at how much I'm eating the size of a small jar of baby food maybe it's not enough ****DIVALICIOUS**** -
A better choice would be Healthy Choice frozen Greek yogurt. Low sugar, low fat, and 4gr protein. After surgery it's even more important to avoid empty calories - we can eat so little we really need to make every bite count. I go for anything w/protein - the more the better. And I like that it comes in little hoodsie-cup sized cups. I eat one and done. No chance of eating more than the single serving.

Surgery Scheduled For April 12Th!
NWgirl replied to Passionatehrt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Jay Robb is usually said to be the best tasting whey Protein. I stocked up on a lot of broths before my surgery, and drank a minimal amount of them. I also stocked up on yogurt, which I was not able to eat fast enough. Definitely try the sugar free Jello pudding cups, they have some nice flavors. Make sure you have a heating pad and adult liquid tylenol. -
You lucky girl.....when I was on Clear Liquids, it had to be clear......muscle milk, Protein powders, even the chicken unjury were not allowed..........had to wait until I was on full liquids for those. You can add torani syrup to your drinks for a different flavor (look for the sugar free versions.......grocery stores may have them, and amazon has a good selection). I think I read that some people put a little yogurt in their shakes to get the whey flavor out....not sure if it's too soon for yogurt on the stage you're at. Good luck.......you're doing great!

I had surgery on 10/3 as well. I had the clear liquids for a week, and then after my 1 week post op visit I was approved to move to strained cream soups and yogurt. Once I started that I started to have stomach problems. I am now back to clear liquids and my protein shake. I struggle to get 250 calories a day. I am very sad that I won't be moving to the pureed stage for a bit longer. I've even had to go back to taking the medication for nausia and fullness to stop my stomach spasms. After 2 weeks I started to vomit. I've lost 17 lbs since surgery, but right now I can barely stomach water.

Hello, I'm excited to have found this forum! I have lots of questions all the time and I can't attend the support groups offered in my area because they conflict with my work schedule! I have been dying to talk to someone that has experienced the same things I have! My sweet husband is trying so hard to help but can't give the advise I need! I had my surgery (RY) on September 2nd! It has been a mixture of sad, mad and happy emotions. I could of used this forum along time ago. One month later and I am still unable to eat anything solid! Protein drinks, broths, yogurts and soup with very soft veggies! I am so sad I can't eat normally, food was such a comfort thing for me. I am mad at everyone that can eat whatever they want. But I am so happy with the results, one week after surgery I was off of all diabetic medication and my BG has been normal since, I have lost over 40lbs thus far and I feel so great physically! The sad and the mad are feelings that are psychological and they are far more overwhelming than the happy feeling. Am I alone in this war of emotions?

Looking for a tasteless protein powder
hopetolose replied to e in ny's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Gnc makes one. I put it in w fruit and greek yogurt and cant taste it -
i love fage and chobani greek yogurt. chobani makes more of an assortmant of non/low-fat flavors. trader joe's also sells it and has 20g of protein per serving. personally, i was never a fan of yogurt but i've come to really love greek yogurt for it's creaminess
-
You can usually get it in the natural foods section of larger grocery stores. I like the unflavored Fage yogurt the best. I add a little vanilla extract, a packet of Stevia, and add a little homemade trail mix. Usually a 1/2 container with trail mix is enough for me. I agree with the poster who said get the unflavored. You can do so many more variations with it. Also the texture of greek yogurt is like sour cream. Some use it in place of sour cream in recipes. ps. A year ago I wouldn't have even come close to buying greek yogurt. Now - I LOVE it!
