  1. I am only 8 months out so I can’t speak about regain but if you haven’t seen a nutritionist yet you could learn some things that will help you to lose weight. Is the doctor saying they won’t do a revision unless something is wrong?? I was told that they do revision because of heartburn even if you aren’t that overweight. Have you considered seeing a bariatric therapist? Maybe since you experienced addiction transfer and you are sober, you transferred back to food again and need to get to the root of the addiction before you will be able to lose the weight.
  2. I got RNY 04/2017. HW: 226, LW: 150, CW: 195 I did all of the right things until I had transfer addiction in 2019 and started drinking daily. It escalated and I was a full blown alcoholic. I have now been sober a year and I’m depressed. I’m almost back to my pre surgery weight, I’m working my butt off to lose the weight and it’s not coming off. I never feel well and my chest always hurts. I always have heartburn and I’m always hungry. I need help so I went to a new surgeon the other day about a potential revision and she wants me to see a nutritionist and get a endoscopy. I got my results from my upper GI testing today and there’s NOTHING wrong. I feel like everything is wrong and I’m not okay. I’m on antidepressants, I’m now sober, I’m exercising and eating properly but I’m still fat and I hate myself so much for it. I feel like the biggest failure at 30 years old and it makes me so sad. Has anyone else been able to lose regain?

    weight loss

According to my scale which I weigh myself weekly just before my shower I’ve lost 22lbs since my surgery. Yesterday I went for my 6 week post op visit. Keep in mind your fully dressed for weigh in and according to my doctor he doesn’t deduct clothing. With that said I weighed in at 175lbs which I was a bit upset. According to the doctor my weight at surgery was 189lbs and now my weight at 6 week post op now 175lbs is only giving a 14lb weight loss. Then I asked the doctor if weighing myself weekly just before I shower, is this more acute than being weighed at a late afternoon appointment, fully clothed, eating stage 4 diet requirements and drinking water. My doctor said my weight at home is likely acute providing what type of scale I’m using. I’m using a Fit Aria. This is a very good scale.

Only 9 pounds almost 4 weeks post op

I agree with adding a flavor packet to your water... I also like the Walmart brand, as well as the Starburst brand pink and blue flavors. You can get those at a Walgreens and Walmart. But your weight loss sounds fine to me! Don't Panic!

    When does weight loss start?

Some people hold onto the IV fluid from their surgery for slightly longer. You may just be one of those people. I'd say give it another four or five days before stressing about it. Your weight loss should pick back up then.
  6. I just had the gastric sleeve done on December 10th and I lost 1.8 lbs. Is this normal? I don’t want to compare myself to others but I’m concerned. Is there anything I should be doing? I can only consume liquids and I struggle with that. When does the weight loss start? 😏

    weight loss

I think 20 lbs in 3 weeks is fantastic! I was not anywhere close to that and the surgery team thinks I'm doing great at 3 months/35 lbs down. You didn't gain the weight overnight and you won't lose it overnight
  8. So here I am, 6 months in, lost 10% of my weight and going to my final preop appointment. On the edge of my seat because after all this time I finally get to meet and discuss with my surgeon. Hubby asks me on the way in “what happens if you still don’t see her”.? I tell him well then I’m done with this place. Guess what??? Still didn’t see her!!!!I weighed in, met with the NP, signed paperwork and went over some surgery stuff, met with dietician, got vitamin samples the whole thing. After 3 1/2 hours I still hadn’t see her and had to leave to be back for work. Now what? What do I do? Give up on this office? Start somewhere else? Or thrown in the bypass towel altogether and keep forging ahead??? Very upset and frustrated now.

I echo everyone's sentiments! Be Proud of yourself and this journey. You have lived your life at your high weight and decided enough was enough and set on your trek. Your trek is not mine, nor anyone else's. You are doing great for YOU!
  10. Hey, OP here. Congrats to everyone. I lost the majority of my weight while on WW. I rejoined again 1 week before Covid hit( March 2020). I was so stressed and depressed that I put on 10lbs. I've lost it since and even more. I started at 290, I'm now 185. I haven't reached " goal weight" since my sugery, but I'm ok with it. I'd like to lose 20 more, and I hope I do. I'm not obsessed with it. WW makes me too obsessed, counting points, worried about my next meal. Now I try to practice intuitive eating.
  11. It looks like you’re doing great! It is part of my plan for continued weight loss to join WW when I get closer to goal and need more encouragement and accountability. I also plan on following my dietitian’s macros instead of WW if they don’t match up. Bravo to you for finding a sensible solution that works for you!
  12. I just joined it yesterday, the Digital-only version. I was doing fine until COVID, then gained some weight 20+ pounds and I finally just got it off but I think the "extreme" diet I was on didn't set well with my health, so I thought I'd try something more balanced, normal, and healthy. I have my concerns/fears/doubts, but I'll give it a try. I'm still trying to navigate the whole "Personal Points" thing. I wish you great success.

    weight loss

I lost 23 pounds the first month and I was heavier then you. 20 pounds is a fantastic amount of weight and is on the higher side especially with your starting weight. Unrealistic expectations for the surgery are common because of the show 'My 600 Pound Life' but your starting weight was less than half of theirs and thus your weight loss isn't going to seem as significant, but you're on track and doing great. I had the same unrealistic expectations and you'll have to work on lowering your expectations to be more realistic with your weight loss or else you're constantly going to be beating yourself up thinking that you're failing when, in fact, you're not only on track, but ahead of most people at the same point in time. Put this into perspective: You lost almost 8% of your body weight... in less than a month! How is that failing? Be proud of yourself! You've done great thus far!

    weight loss

The more you have to lose the faster you lose to begin. 20lbs is great. If anyone tells you differently punch them in the nose (not really of course). As @catwoman7 said the people on My 600lb Life have a lot more weight to lose than you - like more than double. So you should expect their initial weight loss rate to be more than double yours. But if you watch that show you’ll notice that as they lose weight, the loss Dr Now expects them to lose each month decreases. Glad you’ve done well & haven’t had any issues. And enjoy every pound you lose.
  16. I know everyone has their 2 cents, so here go mine; 1- water first! If you are at work that can be difficult. I downloaded an app to remind me to sip water every 5 minutes. 2- I love the great value black cherry water enhancer that walmart carries. Find a flavor you like if you are like me and can't stand water straight. 3- The chocolate body fortress whey isolate protein powder was my gift from God! I tolerated it well and drank 3 scoops a day. That's 90 grams of carbs a day just with them. I hope that helps. Congratulations on your successful surgery and stay motivated. The weight will come off.

    Considering revision

Hi - I’m also in the same boat. I had a sleeve done in Jan 2014 and it worked well. I then got pregnant 8 months out and had to actively work to get in enough calories for pregnancy and nursing. My weight has gradual lag crept back up. I’m now looking into revision options. My surgeon in NY suggested a band two years ago but I never went ahead with it. Now I’m looking at either a DS or bypass, not sure which one. I feel that I’m one of those people where the sleeve was always going to be part one of a two step phase.
  18. I’m having the same worry! Monday will be 4 weeks for me (RNY on 11/22), and right now I’ve only lost 11 pounds since surgery. I have no problem getting enough protein — 60-90g, right from the start — but I do struggle to drink more than 40-50oz of water each day, and I’m definitely not walking as much as I should. I know my weight loss will be less dramatic than someone who had a higher starting BMI, but I wonder if I’m on track. I just transitioned from liquids to soft foods at the start of the week, and I find myself worrying (a tiny bit) about the “extra” calories…crazy, right?!

    Disgust to food

I wasn't repulsed by food, but for the first five months or so, I was never hungry and didn't give a flip about food. I kinda wish that would have never ended because it was so easy to lose weight when I had no hunger and zero interest in food. Sigh. if you're worried, call your clinic. I'm guessing it's probably normal, though.

    weight loss

"Only" 20 pounds in three weeks?! I think that's a fantastic amount, especially considering that your body has gone through a big trauma and is still healing. I know it's hard not to compare yourself to others, but progress varies so much, since it's affected by your initial weight, how much you lost before surgery, how damaged your metabolism is from previous dieting, your genetics, and like a million other factors. Keep sticking to your plan and be proud of the success you've had so far!

    weight loss

Hello everyone! I had my surgery on the 24th of November. Post Op no issues! No pain I can take all medications! However, I have only lost 20 pounds since surgery.... I don't know what I am doing wrong or if I am I have my dietitian on the 29th of this month! Any suggestions? I am walking not every day but most days I do walk
  22. I'd start with your insurance and see if you even need a referral. Do you typically need a referral to see a specialist? Find out your insurance requirements for surgery. It shouldn't be your primary that has requirements for you, it's typically insurance and the surgeon themselves that will have criteria you may need to meet. You may be able to just investigate local practices on your own and schedule something. But I would also just say I'm interested in getting more information on weight loss surgery, can you help me with that? And then go from there. If you do need a referral and they say no, ask them to document their refusal in your chart and then seek another doctor.

    Breakfast

*raises hand* I do my running (usually 5k, sometimes more) in the mornings on an empty stomach and prefer it that way. I feel like a filled or partially filled stomach slows me down. Though this is probably just in my head, lol Pte-Covid I used to go to the gym in the mornings before eating as well. Was able to do weights or zumba or hot yoga just fine. YMMV. Good Luck! ❤️

Thank you for that information. It all make sense. I have never been pregnant so I didn’t know hair loss was an issue in pregnancy. I tell myself the same thing about weight loss over hair loss, but realistically super attached to my hair. Lol!!!! I almost opted out of the surgery because of the possible hair loss. Yep. It was that serious. Lol!!!! My dietician told me what yo do minimize it and talked me back into the surgery. If it happens, it happens. I’ll adjust and it will grow back. Just trying to stay positive and do what I can on my end. Thanks, Love💛💛💛💛

    My new body

Congratulations to you!! That's awesome!! Can't wait to be in your position one day!! Hopefully the issues with your gall bladder will resolve so that you can avoid surgery. I've already been having the loose skin under my arms, stomach and between my legs (the upper inner thighs) and I'm not very fond of it. Already dreading Summer and thinking about wearing swimsuit again. Before I used to wear the skirted kind of suit that comes in two separate pieces. Now who knows what I'll wear cause there's really nothing to help hide the flabby arms. I could always try those shorts to hide the upper, inner thighs and maybe even the skirts will still work but those arms, ugh! My legs, even at bigger size, used to look good. Now, eh. I haven't been fully naked in front of my husband, at least not standing up and walking around, in decades. Yes, I will get naked in bed and strategically drape the blanket over my stomach and stuff like that but yeah, I was hoping to one day be able to walk around naked or in some lingerie and not sure that will happen cause I have the same fear of his reaction that your partner had. Even though he's very supportive, loving, loves my body (big or small), etc. it's like, once you see that you can't unsee it and you don't really know how you'll react to it unless and until you do and I say that to him and he gets upset with me and tells me that would never happen. LOL Who knows, maybe I need to give him more credit. But yeah, I hope one day I can eventually get this extra skin removed (and I still have a ways to go with losing more weight too). Not sure I will be totally happy with my body unless that happens. But I am happy with so many more positive things that has happened with/to me since! So, I am grateful!
