Marion Thanks for sharing the recipe. I wondered what Anzac Biscuits were. I am having a good weekend, even though it is rainy here this week. I finally cleaned up a mess of paperwork yesterday and managed to get in a nice walk between the rain showers. I got myself an I Pod, and it is helping me to want to walk more, because I love listening to the music. I also joined a waking club that starts in a few weeks. I hope to meet some people in my area that like to walk for exercise. A health club in the area is sponsoring the walking club and we will walk around various parks in the area. I did a 50 min cardio workout DVD this morning. Oh my, two years ago I certainly would not have been able to do that! I am going to pick-up my Mother from the retirement center and have her for lunch today. So I made a big fruit salad, crab cakes and wild rice. I don't eat rice often, but this is whole grain and should be pretty healthy. Have a good week. And keep up the good work! Having only one cookie once in a while is O.K. We can't give up everything - all the time. Karen

That pure will power is a tough thing. Hope this fill works out for you. I get my first fill one week from today, excited and scared. PS. I only see one post.

So, I'm in the first week post-op and my diet is pretty restricted. I actually don't mind, since nothing exactly appeals to me at this point. Cream of potato Soup was absolute heaven to me, especially since I decided to squeeze my Protein in another way, so I was able to eat the soup HOT, not just luke-warm. Oddly, I'm perfectly happy to have my husband eating REAL food - hey, at least it makes the house smell good. I enjoy the smell, even if I can't have any of what he's having. Plus, he's been an absolute angel taking care of me, so it makes me feel good to be able to feed him something yummy to take care of him in return. I can tell some people are having a much harder time watching their loved ones eat real food, but I guess I'm lucky. So, this is pretty weird, but I've discovered my absolute favorite thing post-op is "coffee kisses". I'm not supposed to have coffee yet, even decaf, because the acid in it can be tough on my healing tummy. But my husband can have coffee. The aroma is heavenly. And even better, a nice hearty good-morning kiss, and I get a bit of coffee flavor too. Fourth of July grilled hot dog kisses somehow weren't quite as wonderful, but hey - it was worth a shot. Try it - you may like it!!

Any One Tried To Add Fat To Their High Protein Diet To Break A Stall?
fluffylibra30 replied to tamou37's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Your body gets used to what your eating so it starts going into "storage" mode. You need to up your carbs and calories and add some more good fats. Do that for a week or two and the weight will drop back down. -
I eat it, but it is a slider. I was probably at least three months out before I reintroduced it. I have it for a snack or at the movies, just not all the time. Also, I pop my own at home so I can control how much fat and salt are in it. Lynda

J.Michelle - I know the feeling. I have a stressful job as well. One thing I have been doing since before surgery is walking during my scheduled breaks. And taking a full hour for lunch which of course I don't need anywhere near an hour to eat my 8 bites but I use that time to clear my mind for the afternoon. JerseyGirl68 - I'm sad to say it was not because I didn't want to. I do not allow junk in the house (I have no will power. If its there I will probably try to eat it once at least. Found out the hard way Cookies are a no go and band them from the house.) and once I'm home in the evenings I don't go back out. But my husband and daughter ate out while they were going to tutoring and then the grocery store (to get something needed for dinner which I ended up not cooking) and my son wanted something to eat before my husband got back from the store. So I ended up having lunch meat and sliced cheese with a couple crackers. For some reason crackers help me get the lunch meat down (I'm not a fan of lunch meat). So technically I did have some carbs. Not what I normally would have had. This is a meal I've eaten a few times in the last couple weeks. I hate cooking for just me.

First Post Here... Surgery schefuled for 4/22
annette0117 replied to courtneyjoy's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have surgery tomorrow and was on a one week liquid diet. The first couple of days are the hardest (day 2 & 3 for me were the worst). If you can get through that it will be easy. To make it the rest of the way! Just keep thinking about the light at the end!!! Congrats!!! -
https://www.embracescartherapy.com It's only very recently been available for purchase yourself instead of going through a doctor. I had to go to my surgeons office once every 7-10 days for about six weeks so they could put it on. It's really tricky to get the tension right and occasionally they'd mess up and if they messed up they ate the cost of it which was nice. But I'm sure with some practice and assistance you could put it on at home!

Have your post op appointments been affected by Covid19?
BigSue replied to Jen2020MGB's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My appointments haven't been affected by COVID. I'm 6 months out and I had follow-ups with my surgeon at 1 week, 3 months, and 6 months. I met with the dietician at 1 week and 6 weeks. I had bloodwork for my 6-month appointment (they gave me the choice of getting blood drawn at the appointment or ahead of time, and I chose to do it ahead of time so the surgeon could get the results before I saw him). -
Restriction? or Too Tight?
marlymarz replied to jswright1297's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I seem to be having sort of the same issue. I had my 2nd fill in January and have not needed to go back as of yet. Until the past 2 weeks I was comforable and now I can not seem to keep anything down. I am scared to have some taken out for fear of gaining, but at the same time I know I am not getting what my body needs if I am vomiting all the time. -
Wow that sounded terrible! You lived in excruciating pain for over a week?! Should they not of realised sooner it could be a clot as you'd just had surgery? And I didn't realise they cause so much pain - I don't really know anything about them. I thought if you had one, within a few days untreated you'd die. I'm off to google blood clots! Thank you ????

Anyone Gain Weight?
precious11788 replied to nursemarti's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banned on may 3 and I was losing until last week I gained 1.5 lbs. I've been exercising and eating the right foods, but I think it's normal. I was upset because I knew I was doing everything right, but I decided not to stress over it. As long as you know you're not cheating or eating the wrong foods you should be fine. It will come off soon. -
The carb monster is going to be the death of me...bring on day 3 pre-op
brandynd posted a topic in Pre-op Diets and Questions
So I'm feeling pretty good....finishing up day 2 of my 2 week pre-op diet. I'm allowed up to 50 carbs a day, but yesterday rounded out the night with 28, and right now today I'm sitting at 21 with 1000 calories consumed. Don't get me wrong, physically I feel fine. Been a little bit hungry all day because I've been eating small amounts every 3-4 hours...I never really feel satisfied. I just want some carbs and starches so bad...mashed potatoes, bread, Pasta...you name it and I've got head hunger for it like mad. I know this is so ridiculous. I'm mentally prepared to end my love affair with carbs, but parting with them really sucks, especially since I'm not a big fan of meat. I've never been a volume eater, but geez, right now I feel like I could take out a whole loaf of french bread along with some garlic mashed potatoes. Ugh...alas, I will sit down to my boneless, skinless chicken breast, and my 2/3 of a cup of broccoli for dinner. 12 more days; I can do this...it just may drive me mad in the process. Any advice from the veterans on some good carb substitutes to help shut up the head hunger? -
Hi! I'm 6 weeks post op. my pre surgery weight was 273lbs and today I am 251lbs. Until last week I was 247lbs. How the hell did I put on weight? I'm not doing anything different Is it possible to put on weight so early on? I'm so worried and discouraged Any one gone through the same?

Almost surgery time
1959JimmyJames replied to amandaseiders's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am 9 weeks post-op. Just had my 2 month follow-up exam today. My blood pressure is normal and I am down 38 lbs. I am on a normal diet now and that is anything that I want to eat. I follow the nutrition plan but I don't substitute anything for flavor. I use real butter and I drink whole milk. I do use sugar substitute for ice tea and kool-aid. I haven't exercised at all yet. I have a back problem that I am recovering from. I just walk around the house and help out with the kids. I guess that is a workout, chasing after 4 little kids. On surgery day I was nervous and anxious. I am a band to sleeve revision. The surgery took about 4 hours. I felt miserable when I woke up in recovery. It was the anesthesia. After it wore off I started feeling the pain from surgery. I was hooked up to a morphine pump and I had the control in my hand so I used it alot. Whenever I saw it lit up, I would drug myself. You will be up and walking by dinner time on surgery day. They won't let you lay there. There is a danger of blood clots. I didn't have a urine catheter when I woke up. It was removed right after surgery. It was my option, so the doctor went along with it. Walking around after surgery helped me with going to the bathroom also. I was in the hospital 2 days. You have to pass a swallow test before they release you. Just making sure there are no leaks. You'll have liquid pain killer at home. Keep it handy and after about the 5th day you will be feeling pretty good. Some people feel great right away. My pain lingered for a while. My wife took care of me through this whole thing. She is a great woman. I think the main thing is to have someone around to help you the first week. And if that person loves you then that is all the better because you are going to be an inconvienence for a few days. Good luck to you and let us know how you do. -
8 Lb Weight Gain Two Days After Surgery?
txgirl36 replied to txgirl36's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you everyone! It was good to hear that this is pretty normal. I've put away my scale and vowed not to use it until my 2 week follow up with my surgeon. -
8 Lb Weight Gain Two Days After Surgery?
Need-a-Sleeve replied to txgirl36's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Txgirl36: I was sleeved by the same doctor, same hospital, same day & I gained 10 pounds. No worries, they pumped us full of IV fluids with sodium in it. It will come off for sure. I have removed my scale & will wait for my post-op visit next week. -
I used to weigh myself daily, but now I do it weekly. That way, I don’t feel like I’m stalling.

Congratulations on being banded and welcome to our little forum. I think you'll find by reading posts here that many of still have trouble with evening snacking. Since you have no fill yet it is perfectly normal to feel hungry. With no fill, everything should be passing right through your band. If nothing hurts when you eat, you should be fine. The same advice goes for the treadmill - if it doesn't hurt, you should be OK. Take it easy at first. You're only one week out of surgery. Many of us have that bubbling gurgling sensation. We have lots of different theories on what causes it. For some people it is quite loud. You may be taking too big a bite or not chewing well enough. It's hard to say. Good Luck and please check in often.

August 2011 Sleevers!
dramagirl28 replied to meggspeggs's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm down 53lbs and have started only weighing once a week. I lose on average about 2lbs/week and that is just perfect for me! I'm down from a size 20 to a 14, which is what I wore in high school. I'm tickled pink at the thought of dropping even more. I am disappointed in my exercising efforts, but now I'm planning a trip to Yosemite so I'm using that to motivate me to strengthen my muscles and build stamina so that I can go and enjoy the new me! I am so thankful I made the leap and got this done. I will never regret or be ashamed of having surgery. -
Restriction? or Too Tight?
mirech replied to jswright1297's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow, I am going through the same thing you are. I got my 3rd fill and I was on liquids and mushys for the next 4 days. On my 5th day I went on a business trip to Vegas and I have not been able to eat anything at all. I can only drink Water, shake and eat Soups. But not creamy soups. It's not a good feeling because everything I threw up everything. So, my first two months I lost 19 lbs. for the last three weeks I hadn't lost anything at all. Then after 5 days of not eating anything, just liquids, I lost 7 lbs. How does that happen? I was thinking about going to the doctor but I have lost so much weight that I don't want to go. Oh and another thing, I am not hungry! So, here it is two weeks after my 3rd fill and I've decided to just eat soups until my next doctor's visti (in two weeks) so that I can loose more weight because I was at a plateau! -
That sounds like the same diet I had the first week post-op. My nutritionist specified that Water in the Protein mix counts against water, so maybe that helps. You could put a scoop (~25gm protein) in 16.9 oz bottle of water, that way just by getting your protein in you've also gotten in 40 - 45 oz of water. What makes it hard for you to get your water in? As for the hunger - water. It will satiate you for a while, even when you're hungry. I can't give you any better advice b/c we're having opposite reactions. I was banded March 1 and have yet to feel hungry. I'm maxing out around 3 oz food per day. Then again, I'm constantly sipping water, too.
