No I am definitely not miscalculating calories. I am as strict as they come with not only my portion sizes but my calories and Protein intake as well. I was banded 9 weeks ago and have lost 21lbs to date. I called my doctor's office yesterday and she told me that I am right on track with my weight loss. She said that the average weight loss is 1 - 2 lbs per week and right now I am above that. I guess I just get anxious and want it all off immediately and I have to realize it is going to take time, just as it did for me to put the weight on. I just didn't know if there was a correlation between fills and weight loss because so many people on here say they didn't "really start seeing the weight fall off" until after 3 or 4 fills. Thank you all for your comments and posts.

I'm at the plateau stage Now!! I'm so fustrated, like you i work out 5 times a week... I spoke with my personal trainer and she advised me to do interval cardio training now, in addition to weight training...instead of steady state cardioshe suggests...on the treadmill do 1 minute as fast as u can on an incline then a two minutes of recovery at your normal pace..repeat this about 8 times... my trainer has helped me alot i'm down 60 lbs and about 30 inches...

I have done really well with my band, I am the first one to acknowledge that. I credit eating well and exercising 5 days a week at high intensity. I seem to plateau every 30 pounds or so. Does anyone else seem to plateau at regular intervals like this? They last so long and are so frustrating. This time around I have changed two of my days to a new and different kind of cardio work... spin class, and I love it... just started this last week though, so haven't really seen any results. I just am feeling sorta frustrated, and don't really have a great support system at home so thought maybe someone here could identify with me? Thanks for reading...

Hello! I was banded 2 weeks ago. As of today I am down 27 pounds! So far I have felt great. I only took a few days off of work and returned before I had even planned. I just started mushies yesterday and honmestly I dont feel any restricion at all. Last night the right side of stomach right around where my port is started bothering me. Its not a sharp pain but it feels weird when i bend over almost as if its tightening or moving. Anyone else experience this?

You are all so very encouraging. I am enjoying reading the posts. This week I finished my skills group sessions and have scheduled my follow up behavoirist appt for Dec. 17th. Thusfar in my journey I have lost 21lbs so I am not complaining Looking forward to losing more b4 that appt. I would love 10 off because that would put me in another category, but whatever it is, I will relish it. Congrats to you all. I look forward to loving my banding as well!

well, i would say your body is adjusting to everything: the surgery, fast weight loss in the beginning, new diet. how much did you lose pre-op? stalling is normal. be patient and keep doing what you're doing. the weight will come off. you may see inches lost first good luck!

I finally started losing again. I lost 20 pounds pre-op and now 17 pounds since surgery. I went Tuesday 5/29 and had only lost 1 pound since my 2 week post op appt. Good news is that same day I also had my diet progression class!! I'm so excited to CHEW something. Thank you for your support.

Tummy Tuck and BL with augmentation question
waterlady posted a topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
I love to snow ski and was just wondering when you ladies who have had this combo actually felt like skiing again? The first surgeon I consulted with said that I should be good to go in 4-6 weeks. I do bounce back pretty quickly from things. I was back at work after gastric bypass in 9 days ( I don't have to do any heavy lifting). What do you ladies think? I REALLY want to get this done but I also love to ski... Please give me your opinions. THX! -
Tummy Tuck and BL with augmentation question
CowgirlJane replied to waterlady's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
I was told to wait 6-8 weeks post plastics before horseback riding. I am thinking skiing is similar. -
I was banded on march 5th. I had my first fill last week. I meet with a few people at the hospital while waiting for my fill...we compared notes because I have had a little pain on the side where the port is located. Two out of five have pain ( feels like a bee sting) sometimes it feels tight almost like a pulling sinsation? I ask my Doc and she said it was normal and that we are all different...I still feel tender and it has been eight weeks! The good news is I am down almost thrity pounds... Wishing you well!!! M

I am a Therapeutic Apheresis Nurse and that is one of the more common diseases we treat. I've been doing this job for 15 years and have had WLS only 10 weeks, but I have never heard of GB after WLS. If you don't mind me asking, did they treat with plasma exchanges or IVIG?

When Was the First Time Someone Noticed Your Weight Loss?
needtorecover replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I've lost 27 pounds so far and haven't really heard any comments from anyone. It's hard to notice weight loss on me because in addition to being chunky, I'm also tall, so when the weight comes off it's not as noticeable. I won't expect anyone to say anything to me until I've dropped at least 50 pounds and maybe not even then. It is frustrating because the number keeps dropping on my scale but my clothes don't feel *that* much different. My fat pants (that got too tight right when I had my surgery) are finally starting to feel normal again but I still have to strain to button them up right out of the dryer (why do they always shrink?!) I think people who haven't seen me in a long time notice, though. I ran into an old colleague and she gave me the up and down look while we were talking. Didn't ask me though. And to those who are discouraged: I rarely ask someone about their weight loss unless they bring it up to me. I don't want to embarrass them. I did that on accident when I was in college - my boss was a very big guy (around 500 pounds I'm guessing) and every week he got smaller. I was really impressed and I blurted out "Holy cow, you're losing so much weight! Did you have surgery?" Then he got flustered and changed the subject. Lesson learned, don't be nosy. -
I starting losing right away and dropped 17 FAST. But it has creeped up again and now I'm at a total of 14. I haven't been cleared to exercise yet, so I'm hoping that will get me into a more predictable losing pattern. To this point all I have done is walk with my doggies and just be active in daily life. I think getting back to work will help me get into a routine again, which I am looking forward to. Have a good week!

That's considered a stall. Plateau's are generally when you are close to your lower limits and you get stuck there pretty much forever, so let's hope this isn't a plateau. Are you tracking body fat % as well? Are you working out? Bodybuilding/weight lifting? What's your daily intake vs burn look like? Are you tracking intake? Hows your water? Something VERY important to factor is your BMR. Basal Metabolic Rate, the amount of calories you burn in a day just by being alive, think in a coma, alive but not moving, that's your BMR. BMR drops as you get older and it drops as you lose weight. https://www.active.com/fitness/calculators/bmr If I assume you are 6 foot, starting weight of 408, starting age of say 35 would put your BMR at 3285 calories per day. Dropping that 408 to 330, with the same height and age, drops that BMR to 2799 calories per day. That's just shy of 500 calories less burn per day now. So, you can see, as we get older and thinner, it keeps getting harder to maintain the same speed of weight loss. We need to either increase our exercise or decrease our caloric intake, or both. Hope that helps some.

Stuck With The Number On The Scale?!? Help :(
PdxMan replied to latina's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
For starters, I would address this with your doctor ASAP. You should not be throwing up almost everything you eat on a daily basis. I can understand occassionally, which would usually point to not chewing enough, taking too large of bites or eating too quickly. Don't worry about the scale. If you have read threads from other people posting about slow loss or stalls, the #1 advice is to throw away the scale. IMO, for the first 2 months, the scale is meaningless. Your body is going through a major change and trying to make adjustments. It is going to retain fluids and release them, go into starvation mode ... basically, you have thrown it a HUGE curve-ball. It is going to take some time to adjust, so put the scale away and keep believing in yourself and the program. It will happen. Just keep doing what you are doing. Down deep in your head, you have to know that if you consume 800 calories a day yet burn 2,000 calories a day, eventually, you will lose fat. Just know that you will also lose muscle, so you have to keep with your program at the gym and try to get in your Protein. This will work. Don't give up. -
Where/How/When did you get your motivation?
awold0 replied to aNewTanya's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I so understand your thread. I too thought the same prior to getting sleeved. I had read and also spoke to others that said what motivated them was actually the weight that comes off in the beginning quite quick. For me this was really true. I lost about 5 prior to surgery and then bam 25 pounds at 4 weeks and then it was 40 in a small amount of time. This motivated me to get into the gym and keep the momentum. Not everyone looses a lot in the beginning bot I started at 278. Then before you know it you feeling great eating small amounts and working out. Now 7.5 months out and I am 170. The motivation has to come from you but it does help in the beginning to get a jump start. Now at 7.5 I loose about 1 pound a week. I am fine with that. I feel great. -

The mind is a scary, scary thing!
mezanne1401 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've been looking at some old pics of myself lately. I have been looking at my old clothing too. I notice little things like having to move my car seat up because I couldn't reach the steering wheel and not having to sit in the big chairs when we go to play bingo. These are all inspiring, but makes me a little sad at the same time. It makes me sad because before losing this weight, I didn't see myself as being as big as I really was. I knew I wasn't a little obese, but I never thought I looked like I weighed 327 pounds. I thought I carried it well. I wish I wouldn't have been so blind to the problem so I could have fixed it years ago! I can't believe I let myself get to that point. Just thought I would not down my little thought for the day! Have a good week everyone!!! -
I was banded yesterday. My husband (bless him) went to the store to stockpile the assorted juices, waters etc. The post-op sheet from the clinic stated I should have something called Endura as a snack; the store didn't know what is was but the pharmacist suggested Ensure. AS the clinic is closed today. I don't know if they are similar...after spending all this money to have the procedure , I am NOT risking even the hint of failure by not being 100% compliant. So does anyone know - are Endura and Ensure equivalent? PS. I 'lurked' for a few weeks before surgery and you were all wonderfully helpful in asking the questions I was too shy to ask. Thanks!!

Thiamine/B12 deficient??
ParrotheadCathy replied to Lolagirlie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My daily Vitamin is Berocca Performance, which has plenty of all the B Vitamins, magnesium, zinc and I can't remember what else. Vitamin D isn't a problem for me since I'd rather be outside than anywhere else and sunlight is the primary source of Vitamin D. I read somewhere that Vitamin D deficiency is more common as people stay inside more than they did in the past. Computers (yeah, they get blamed for everything, never mind that you have to actually USE the computer, LOL) are blamed for much of this. Berocca Performance is not manufactured for sale in the United States. I get it shipped to me. It's a product from Bayer Australia. It effervesces in Water and comes in three different flavors. I buy the orange and put a package of Crystal Light Citrus Splash in to truly hide the taste of the vitamins since the flavor added by Bayer does NOT cover it. And, what the heck, I add a dose of Benefiber for good measure. -
FINALLY! TT scheduled! Way toooo excited
BroncosGalAndrea replied to BroncosGalAndrea's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
Went to my primary care doc to get treatments for these rashes (which they NEVER worked). My PCM sent in a request for authorization to VISIT with the plastic surgeon. That was approved within a week. Made the appt with the PS....he took photos, asked questions, told them what they were gonna do. Be sure and tell PS about how uncomfortable the rash is. Mine was even painful! PS faxed over report and request for approval to TRICARE. Tricare NEEDS to have records of prior treatments, so have your PCM fax that over with the req for the PS visit. I had an approval within a week of when Tricare had all the paperwork. My surgery is scheduled for the 26th of this month. Good luck. -
