    What Do You Tell People

I kept it under wraps at work, but I had to tell my supervisor what I was doing, and when I told her, her reaction confirmed....... keep it quiet until AFTER. I had my surgery was out 3 weeks, I told EVERYONE when I went back. I knew I could not keep it a secret as the weight will fall off........ it has been 10 mos, and I had a male co worker come to me and he said I do not want you to take this the wrong way but you look fabulous....... I then told him... you do know I had weight loss surgery, he said NO........ what kind..we then had a long discussion, as he is thinking about it, after having open heart, and he has diabetis... I told him who my dr was.........and he confiding in me that he was looking into it................ I told him it was the BEST thing I had done for myself............and I was there to support him! cannot wait till he comes to me and says he is going to do it................ I want to be an example for others that need it.......and know they can come to me for support!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  3. Mine is December 19. There is a support group for December surgeries that I joined but it's not very active. We should all join it

    Current Weight July 18, 2016

I was at 42 BMI and was told if I Dont loose 10%of my overall weight as a sign of good faith and intent I would not be approved. My doc didn't care but insurance would not pay so I lost the weigh and more. I am 2 weeks post op. I can tell you I have lost multi pound a gained it back and then some in the past. This is more permanent if you are dedicated and that's what team wanted to see. I have just been losing these days lol
  5. Started my pre op diet today and my surgery is set for 11/10 im so nervous about going under. I guess i watch too much tv but im sooo nervous and have thought about backing out Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G890A using the BariatricPal App
  6. Our numbers are growing, it's so good to talk in Kgs and mls. I have started my pre op diet, to weeks on optifast and it's going ok so far. I can add a cup of salad and a cup of steamed veg a day as well as a few frozen blue berries to my shakes. Pretty good really! I'm from North Qld so I am coming down to the Wesley in Brisbane to have my surgery on the 8/3. Also nice not having to write that back to front....those of you who have been on other forums will know what I mean. Anyway I am just keeping busy with work and next week I will get everything organised as I plan to stay down for at least 10 days. Let's keep the conversation going [emoji4]
  7. I understand that all food is just food, composed of Protein, carbs, fat, Vitamins, minerals, phytonutrients, etc., and that some food is more nutritious than others. In other words, it's all relative. So during the weight losing phases I made the best choices I could most of the time, given the choices available to me at the time. My first fast food choice was on an interstate road trip where I had no other options handy and ate 3 chicken McNuggets at a McDonalds. Mostly, however, I ate lean animal protein, Beans, cheese, skim milk -- and gradually (as restriction permitted) colored, complex veggies, a little fruit and eventually whole grains. At six months out I started drinking wine again -- 4 ounce pours. Rarely (and I mean rarely) I had a bite or two of hubby's or a group dessert or (on road trips) half of a McDs Breakfast burrito or small cheeseburger or slice of thin crust meat pizza. I reached my weight goal at 8.5 months post-op. Since then I've lost another 15 pounds and am maintaining. I've cooked more in the last year and a half than I did the prior 10 years, which has led me to eat more nutritious food than if I were eating takeout or fast food on a daily basis. I have always measured most of my foods and planned my daily menus and track my food using My Fitness Pal. That data continues to be amazingly helpful in helping me learn what's working and not working well for me. I'm certainly still learning. Short version: Choose the most nutritious food you can -- especially while you're in the weight-losing phases. That's when you have a chance to learn how to eat well the rest of your life. You don't have to be perfect. You just have to make good choices most of the time.
  8. Hi BonJosie, My bff's son in law had the same thing a few months ago. He also got a complete unfill for about 3 or 4 weeks and now he's fine. He did gain a few pounds back but made sure he kept up with the gym to keep it at a minimum..Hope you get back to normal very soon!! Hi Lady Blue, I feel your pain with the heartburn coughing etc. I have 6.5 cc's in a 10 cc band. About 3 weeks ago I had such terrible heart burn. I'm 54 years old yet I never in my life before had a moment of heartburn...it's so gross...One night I spit right into my pillow...disgusting. I wound up taking Prilosec for 14 days and it just about cleared up. I especially have to make sure I don't eat anything close to bedtime.
  9. I was sleeved on 10/6. I have bad reflux and I can feel it when I eat or not. It's all the time. I can swallow meds ok though. I love really cold sugar free koolaid. It has to come from the freezer with ice in it. Room temp is gross. Shakes are ok but since I'm in soft foods, I am doing a lot of chicken. The canned kind is great. I sip a lot but I want to guzzle. I think I'm dehydrated and constipated. TMI. Other than that, I'm ok. Was down 25 lbs from my last visit on Sept 18.

    Calling all October Sleevers

I was sleeved 10/13 and only had a one night stay. Very little nausea and minimal gas pain. I also had a hiatal hernia repair done at the same time. Just been able to tolerate protein drink last couple days and so close to getting all my water in. I have only lost 5 lbs since surgery, but learning how to change my lifestyle

    Calling all October Sleevers

Sleeved October 6, the only issue so far is hunger. Hasn't been that bad but I am really looking forward to solid (albeit soft) food at the end of the week. The gas pains have gone away but it took longer than expected--probably 10 days or so. No issues drinking. I can put away about 4 ounces in 15 minutes without issue. Down 29 pounds from surgery date and 63 total. I think about 50 of those pounds were in my neck, because I looked ridiculous when I put on my shirt and tie for work this morning. I can fit a whole fist in the collar. Another thing too: I cannot believe how well I'm sleeping. I haven't slept through the night in years until about a week ago. It may have been that my cpap needed to be readjusted and I just didn't realize it. I took a nap without it a few days ago and my wife commented that I didn't snore at all. It makes me think that I'll be waiving goodbye to my sleep apnea shortly on down the road, which I am very excited about.
  12. You are not alone. I burp like a frat boy. Still, at 10 days postop it's significantly improved. I hope it'll get better and better as time goes on. Good luck! And it can be worse, right? Can you imagine if we were farting this much instead of burping?

    Five months out

I am impressed. Such a big difference in those two pictures. You look light you are 10 years younger. Congratulations.
  14. Hi all, well it has gone by super fast, but I'm one month out today. Was sleeved 9/10. My main exit incision pain is pretty much healed. That was my nagging pain, which was worst part for me. My weight loss one month post op surgery is 27lbs. Total weight loss pre op & post op together is 74lbs. Blood pressure has dropped significantly about 25 points. It's very exciting! My main problem right now is that honestly a lot of foods, almost all, just don't sound appealing to me. Many of the Proteins and meats just kinda don't really sound good and I was definitely a meat eater before surgery. Hoping it changes some moving forward still some point. My goal for month 2 is 20 lbs. CHEERS!

    Frustrated with stall

@Hungryman I know it can be frustrating but you are really doing good so congratulations...one of the posters posted his weight loss journey for 10-12 months and he lost slow but the big picture was he lost about 90 or so lbs in that time frame...his point was “Look at the big picture” when I think about it, really makes a lot of sense...I try and keep that thought in the back of my mind. You’re doing awesome. Keep up the good work.
  16. Can't believe 24 hours from now I'll be checking in at admissions!!! I'm excited and nervous!! The anticipation is the worst, lol! I'm just ready to get this over with and get back home to start my recovery! I started packing my hospital bag last night and reality seriously set in! This is really happening! I've only had surgery once, and I remember being incredibly nervous. I think I'll do better this time, but I have apologized to my husband in advance for being a nut tomorrow morning!! The plan is to drop my daughter off at school (which I pre warned my husband I will cry) then head to the hospital. Check in is 8am and surgery is scheduled for 10. I'm hoping if all goes well, I'll be out of the pacu and in a room by 2pm. My husband plans to be there the whole time, then pick my daughter up after school and bring her to visit. She's only 4, and knows only a little about what's going on. She knows mommy is having surgery and will stay the night at the hospital. Luckily, I worked nights as a nurse for a long time, so hopefully mommy staying the night in the hospital won't be to weird for her! Anyway, the plan is to stay busy today, and try to sleep tonight! I'm sure sleep won't come easily, lol! I'll try to post again tomorrow with an update. My surgery is at Parker Adventist Hospital in Parker, Colorado. It's a beautiful hospital, and all rooms are private, which I love!!!!!! Wish me luck!

    Sleeve Stretched?

Oh, I hope someone reads this and can help me-if in fact I have a problem. I am 10 days post sleeve and started working in soft Proteins yesterday. Today I was stuck away from home and made 1/2 a bologna sandwich at my friends. I had NO trouble eating, did not feel full and almost ate the other half. Is my sleeve too big? Did I somehow stretch it? I felt very restricted the last 10 days but I never threw up any food or felt sick from too much. I realize this is a very specific problem, but did any one else feel just fine eating soft proteins, and BREAD right away? I thought I would never be able to eat bread again. ST

    "nesting"

I did this! Too bad its already getting back to its non-spotless state now, LOL!!! Luckily 10 days out and I feel well enough to piddle around the house again
  21. The amount of saline in your band has little correlation with how effective it will be. Some need no saline and some may need all 10 CCs. The band works by dimming your appetite but needs to be adjusted for this to happen. Eating fewer calories than you consume is how this works but you won't eat less until your band is adjusted so that you're in the green zone. If you can feel satisfied with a small meal for 4+ hours you're probably in the green zone and the band can work it's magic. Good luck.

    Last night...

I too am so glad I got the band. I reached my goal in 10 months. I spend a little more time hungry or too tight but it's all been worth it.

Time to quit my BAD habit!

I used the patch for about a month maybe, then it was cold turkey. I also lived on this website, it literally saved me on more than one occasion. There is alot of information, forums, chat and the best thing is there is a gadget that tracks your quit for you and you can sit and watch it go up. The gadget kept me going, I would look at it and think to myself it's just not worth losing my progress so far. Now if I could only find a gadget like that for Cookies and crackers not eaten!!! Another thing I did was I actually quit on Christmas day and I made that a gift to my kids...that way I couldn't start again, I would be taking away a gift! It will be 5 years this Christmas. Here are the stats from my gadget: 1648 days, 20 hours, 17 minutes and 51 seconds smoke free. 65954 cigarettes not smoked. $13,184.00 and 16 months, 23 days, 19 hours of your life saved. Your quit date: 12/25/2005 2:00:00 AM

    I Have A Date! :)

Yay! I got my surgery date today! I have to go in for my pre-op appointment next Monday and my surgery is scheduled for Thursday, July 19. I am so happy that they were able to schedule a date so soon. I want to be off of my modified liquids diet before I go back to school (work). I will be 4 weeks post-op by then, and 12 weeks post-op by my brother-in-law's wedding. I can't wait for my body on the outside to match my personality on the inside. I am so excited! I am motivated to get as much weight as I can off before the wedding. Wahoo!
  25. It's totally normal to be scared! I was freaked after my pre-op appt with my surgeon, then I was calm again. Then the morning of my surgery, my husband drove me to the hospital, he pulled in the parking ramp and I looked at him and said "lets go home, I can't do this" But, I knew if I didn't do it, I would regret it! I'm only 2 weeks post op now, so I'm not experiencing all the differences there will be (other then only being allowed liquids still for another week), but I know that since starting the 10 day pre-op liquid diet until now, I've lost 30 lbs already. So it WILL be worth it! Only you can really decide what's right for you, but as a person who has fear and anxiety myself, don't let fear of the unknown rule your decision. My husband was worried (and so was I), about the risk factors and death is always a risk, but I always told him, and reminded myself, I could die driving to work each day, I could die walking to the mailbox, and I could die early because of my obesity. Sometimes the risks are worth it! Good luck!
