NSV: I can RUN! Who'da thunkit?

Amazing what one can do when you start to loose weight.....congratulations...you are also learning the secret to successful exercising ...not that it's easy, but that it brings great rewards and accomplishments, and you only want more and more...wait till the endorphins kick in and you experience a "Runner's High"...trust me, it's coming! I always stuck with a day until I completed it correctly also...sometimes I would go back and start the week over to work back into that difficult day... -
I'm 13 days post op and have been stalled for about 6 days, it's really getting to me and I am now feeling depressed about it. Even had an anxiety attack last night..

Reasons for diet stages?
ttdish replied to helladoll's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon's plan allows for soft Proteins starting on day three (cottage cheese, ground meat, Beans, etc- very small portions, of course). He said he stays up to date with all of the latest recommendations in the bariatric community, and has been doing it this way for years with no problems. I never had a miserable week of clears or liquids, and no eating mush for weeks on end. I've tolerated everything I've eaten, and am now 7 weeks out, and basically eating like a normal person (only real restriction is that I'm eating low carb), just smaller portions. It has made this processes so much easier than I ever expected, and I'm down 45 pounds in 9 weeks (that includes 2 week pre-op diet). I am a big proponent for following YOUR surgeons recommendations, but just wanted to throw this out there to show how much the post-op diets can vary between surgeons. ~*~ Find me on YouTube: Trisha's Sleeve Story ~*~ -

3-6 month out eating questiom?
FLORIDAYS replied to SWChitown's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
All drs seem to have different criteria they follow but it's basically the same for the most part...I will answer your question based on my experience. You will want to check with your dr before deviating from his rules. I had to give up carbonation..the is my drs #1 rule. No food is off limits once On solids but my band isn't fond of rice or thick pasta. First month Week one clear liquids Week two creamy liquids Week three mushies....like yogurt, hummus, mashed veggies, mashed potatoes, oatmeal...anything blended to the consistency of baby food Once on solids at week 4 I started eating the way I did throughout my journey. 1000 calories each day with portion controls being paramount. I ate three meals a day of 3 oz protien, 1/2 c veggies and 1/4 starch. I was allowed 2 snacks of fruit or a sugar free treet or something salty like 10 small pretzel sticks -
Reeneea, I agree with Heathergurl. Take the warm sips and call your Dr. if you can't get a good amount of fluid in... I was really swollen after banding, if fact after surgery for a few days, all of my liquids would go "gurgle, gurgle" when they came down. The gas (shoulder pain and all) is the worse part, I had it for around a week. Each day, it should get better. Also, try a heating pad. Congrat!! Let us know, how you're doing. Shawn

So, I'm 6 days Post Op as of 12 o'clock this evening and, I'm feeling about 85% normal. My abdomen is still sore and some of the incision sites. I can actually see one incison (the bandage came off) and the incision looks healed for the most part. I'm hoping I won't have horrible scars on my tummy, but then again, I have stretch marks so I doubt it makes any difference. I'm also feeling hunger pangs. Or should I say hunger pains? I looked into the forums and read that though our small pouch may be filled to capacity the larger stomach is still there growling underneath. My question is... is hunger supposed to hurt?! I've felt hungry pre-surgery and it didn't "hurt" just a lort of growling... Now post op, I get the growling and it hurts! I'm not sure if it's because of the band and it's still sore/swollen on the inside, which is my best guess... but sheesh! When it growls, I can not waist anytime! That's one pain I don't want to deal with... Now to the TMI... I'm pretty sure during surgery they gave me antibiotics, and these almost ALWAYS cause me to get yeast infections. Ugh! So three days post op after anesthesia and all the meds are completely wearing off, I realize that I have a yeast infection. This sucks because I HATE using the nasty creams and inserts you can buy from the store, and I think the prescription pills work best, but now that pills are a no go for bandsters, I had to break down and buy the insert... Why am I sharing this info? I don't know just mad that I have a yeast infection and can't take a Diflucan to get rid of it ASAP...just needd to vent! Well anyway, I haven't weighed myself since surgery... I think I'll wait, but I won't lie, I'm very tempted. I'm at work so if I find time I'll probably go check it out, but I won't update my ticker until I have my first post op appt on May 2. I guess that's all for now. Hope all is well with everyone in LapBand land and my Surgery Date Twins! TTYLaters!

I was told that it was muscle tissue healing. had the same kind of pain last week and a few days later it just eased up. Now it's just about gone and I'm able to bend and turn on either side when I'm laying down. I walk a lot and I feel that helped a lot. Hope you feel better soon Had my surgery on June 17.

Anyone have more menopause symptoms after weight loss??
nyllrap replied to wickedme's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
A very interesting topic! I turned 54 3 weeks ago, and also had lap band surgery just 2 weeks ago. I have definitely been through menopause, but except for no longer having periods, I have had no symptoms whatsoever or menopause. I have no idea what a hot flash feels like. I hope as I lose weight (have lost 32 pounds so far) I don't start, but if I do, I do. -

Anyone else dying on your post op diet?
GlenSand replied to BellaBean's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am almost done with mushies. I have been adding new foods over the past few days and have been doing very well. I haven't had any bad experiences. For the mushy faze I've been eating cottage cheese, lentil Soup, yogurt and oatmeal. I love all these things and so I haven't ever had a craving for other things. Last week I went out to dinner and ordered soup and broccoli. The broccoli was overcooked and I chewed it to death. Each time I eat I keep all parts of it together below 1 cup of food. I eat slow and am always satisfied for the next 3-4 hours. Tonight I went to a mexican restaurant and had pollo chipotle. It was great and I have a whole bunch left in my fridge! I cut the chicken into teeny pieces and had it with my Beans and a little rice joined in too. 1 cup altogether so I won't expand my pouch! I'm making chili for Super Bowl. I LOVE chili, but at 1 cup at a time means I can have it 3 times tomorrow!!! Happy Superbowl to all! (Go Cards) -
Anyone else dying on your post op diet?
BellaBean replied to BellaBean's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Lena I will have to read your blog! I am starting soft solids in a week. I am nervous of things getting stuck or finding out the things I love (good for me foods, dont worry) wont agree with me. The only solid I slipped up on was chex. I have nibbled on a few dry chex and LOVED IT! I chewed the hell out of them to mush but still a slip up. I personally think I am ok and I have done so well with my diet that chex wont kill me. But I am still plugging along on this diet! Super Bowl Sunday is one day before I can technically start my solids diet. I am going to call my nutritionist and ask her if I can start on Sunday. -
Hi All, Just 4 days to go until my op! I am getting rarther nervous about it but there is always the over-riding feeling that I am doing the right thing. It is a bit scary signing all the consent and hospital admission forms, But my pre-admission meeitng at the hospital went very well and ECG was A-OK. It is funny though checking in to a hospital for an operation when you feel that at present (apart from the weight you are carrying) you actually feel quite healthy! Anyway I am determined to follow through as last time I lost weight like this it went back on - with interest added. The pre-op diet has been going pretty well, though it was always going to be difficult to maintain the momentum of the first week. I haven't been perfect but when i have fallen off the wagon it has been soup not McDonalds! Pretty close to 10kg now and I joined the gym last week as well.

I'm a mother of two children, and my husband is out of the state for a few more months, so I'm doing this kinda alone. I decided to do the same as you did pay everything up and i scrubbed down the house. I also made up a kid friendly menu, of foods my children can pretty much make by themself, I premade sloppy joe mix, and taco meat, hot pockets, premade pancakes and bacon ect....You get the idea. And froze them with my food saver. This will make my first week so much easier. Not so healthy, but my children are not overweight, so one week wont kill them. But now I have nothing to do. ive tried twiddleing my thumbs. tapping my nails, crying, laughing. Now i just wish I could just sleep till my surgery date.

I had the same feelings. I think it is perfectly normal. Dr. Sanchez is a wonderful surgeon, and the anethesiologist I had was banded by Dr. Sanchez just 2 weeks before my surgery! A pretty reassuring thing there. It is a big step. Exciting and scary at the same time. We are all so full of hope when we go into this surgery, hope that finally SOMETHING will work...and a little fear that maybe somehow we will fail at this too. Some nervousness is to be expected, and it will work if you work with it. You will be fine. I will be sending you some prayers and positive thoughts on the 10th.

I know it's a simple thing to do. But I am addicted to milk like a baby on a bottle and to the sugar in juice like a crack head. I literally cry when I cant get juice when I really crave it. (sometimes we cant get to a store or I dont have the moey or I am on a low carb diet) And when I go without milk for a week, I start to crave it like mad.... The low sugar and low carb juices taste ok but they just dont saticefy the cravings at all. There is a slurpee of crystal light.. its real sweet cuz its frozen and all and it taste very very good.. BUT it does NOT get rid of the craving. weird. Its extremely difficult for me. Doesnt seem like it should be.. FACT is I just have to DIET! How can I wasnt this only chance I have at life?

Patience. Its in your head. Your ghrelin hormone is gone/reduced and you should be able to control those urges easily. Thats what I tell myself. sugar free popsicles and Jello are life savers. I found that I could eat a little more solid by lightly blending Soups like Campbells Chunky. That way it has a more body but no real chunks. Still tasted great and it hung around for a while. Soups were my saviour, but just broth was nasty. Couldn't do it. Can't stand Protein drinks either. Now that I'm "eating" I find that one small bite over my max will make me nauseated. Awful feeling till it passes but it teaches you to go easy. The whole eating experience is different feeling. You have to re-learn. Just take it easy and experiment a little bit. Remember you have the rest of your life! Counting my 2 week prediet I am 43 pounds down. Pleased as punch. Wil
