Hi everyone, Iโm new to this forum and planning to have revision from lap band to sleeve. Lap band experience was not good a waist of insurance money. Is a month wait for approval the usual weight time?

There are a few minor tweaks that are commonly done to bypasses to try to improve things, like band over bypass or stoma tightening procedures, but they overall don't seem to have a great success record. The best results revisionwise is to revise to the DS (duodenal switch) but that's a complex procedure for which maybe a half dozen or so surgeons around the country are qualified - you are in luck if you are in California or the NY/NJ area as that's where most of them are, otherwise count on travelling for that solution.

I know this is a topic that gets a lot of judgment on this forum. All I am asking is kindness in response. I am looking into getting my sleeve turned into RNY. I successfully lost all of my weight and kept it off for two years. I then got pregnant with twins. It was a high risk pregnancy and I didn't gain any weight during the first two trimesters. Due to pressure from my OB and my own fears about my babies I began to eat as much as I physically could. To be clear, I am not blaming anyone but myself, I am just explaining that it wasn't the typical slipping back into bad habits situation. After I gave birth to my premature daughters (who are now fine, healthy, amazing), I was stuck in the habit of continually overeating. It's a rut I continually fight to get out but I am now looking at revision to RNY because of this. Does anyone have success stories, words of wisdom, or revision after pregnancy experience? Thank you, Jen

Tell him to research band complications. I had the band put in April 2008, I didn't want anything permeate. I have had nothing but pain and complications since. At my highest was 230 only got down to 189 with band. Going through a break up lost 40lbs but was not band related, and gained it all back. Counting calories workin out and taking phentramine was able to lose 30lbs but would put it back on soon as I stopped diet pills. Always had chest pains from the band, had pouch dilation, band slipped, apple lodged in it ect. Was revised from band to sleeve Monday, doctor said the band had become unstitched from my stomach, was in wrong place and I had lower esophagus dilation. My mom is looking to have hers removed too from similar problems. All the doctors and nurses I've talk to at the hospital said most doctors will not even discuss band as an option anymore

Has anyone had surgery with Humana as their insurance? If so, is the approval process through them easy? Original insurance was Cigna with the lapband 5 years. Now, I'm trying to have revision surgery to the sleeve with my company's new insurer. Any helpful information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Marginal/anastomotic ulcer anyone?
eudys3 replied to eudys3's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Just a quick update, possibly to give hope for healing- Had my repeat EGD on 11/16, 5 months after my marginal ulcer was found so that I had to take that yucky compounded immediate-release omeprazole w/ sodium bicarbonate & Pepcid & Carafate. I still have gastritis (stomach pouch irritation) but my ulcer has healed! I was really afraid I would need a revision or worse, a reversal. I am able to eat now without pain-yea! I have stopped losing weight which has been a huge concern for my family & friends; my mother says I look "gaunt." I am so glad I did all the online research I did on marginal ulcer healing; Bariatric Times is a great resource, geared to the medical profession so the terminology might be a bit difficult. Keep the faith, everyone. You could be as fortunate as I have been. Good luck to all. -
I just had my revision from lap band to sleeve on October 29th and I live in Cloquet, or 30 minutes south of Duluth.

Revision from lap- band, already removed
CaliGirl77 posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Hi All, My Dr's office submitted my paperwork to my insurance company Blue Shield last Monday. They came back requesting more info pre and post weight/BMI? We finally understood they were asking for my info pre and post lap band. I had it placed in 2006 and removed in 2009/2010. I removed it since it just didn't work and we wanted to start a family. My question is do any of you have any experience with insurance companies denying based upon past failures? I don't feel this should even be an issue for them and not sure why they ate linking into it,so any insight would be great thanks. Sent from my SM-N920V using the BariatricPal App -
GoddessMoon, this is the first time Ive been on any forum and I've never experienced rudeness like this. If you read my post, I had a lapband years ago and this was suppose to revise that (which was $1000 more) and do the sleeve. In regards to you question, its hard to tell what difference it would feel. What finally happened is the lap got more and more constrictions that I had to have fixed. My gastro dr ordered the upper GI and CT which showed no sleeve before he had to start doing EGDs.

Nausea vomiting one year out
Losingit2018 replied to roselover50's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
This is gerd and is quite common with the sleeve. I too would wake up with acid flowing from my nose and mouth. It was horrible. Best option is to revise to a bypass. you need to see a surgeon. They may put you on a ppi but those are not safe long term. Gerd can lead to much worse things like cancer. Please see a Dr ASAP. -
I had a section in 2006, tummy tuck in 2008, while I made the mistake of getting the surgery prior to getting rid of all of my excess weight, it did help me in the gym bc I worked out better w/o having to look down and see that pouch of skin. However, my main piece of advice is to make sure you have a great doctor! Mine had to revise twice in his office and it still looks terrible, never flat! I went for a second opinion for revision and the doctor agreed if he did that surgery he would have been disappointed and fixed it the right way. So all in all get a good doc! Don't assume a nice doctor is a good doctor! Sent from my iPhone using VST

Dr. Francisco Gonzalez and/or Oasis of Hope - Any Feedback?
NovemberSleever posted a topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I am scheduled for a revision from VSG to RNY with Dr. Francisco Gonzalez at Oasis of Hope hospital in Tijuana in October. Iโd love some feedback and experiences with either the surgeon and/or hospital. Nervous but excited! Thank you! -
Severe Gerd/esophogeal dysmotility. Revision vs nissen or just hernia repair?
CKmommy replied to starladustangel's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had my rny in January. Only a couple months later I started to develop ulcers. Last week I went to the ER with increased pain to find that even with treatment I had one ulcer that had perforated. I had to have an emergency revision. I can totally relate as I dropped 10 lbs in one week and the pain has definitely been more intense. I also had some constipation issues so they gave me magnesium citrate which helped. This has been hard because I was just feeling like a normal human after 6 months and I literally am starting over ๐ I hope you have a speedy recovery! -
I had a really similar situation after my leak repair, I spent 3 days on a ventilator in ICU. Once I was released after 9 days in the hospital I was on TPN for 13 days, and had JP drains for a at least a month. I know how miserable you are feeling, but please know it does get better. I'm praying and thinking of you. And my husband was (is still deployed) during my revision from band to sleeve, and his unit would not allow him to come home to be with me. Even after everything I went through, I have absolutely ZERO regrets.

Sleeve vs Bypass, fighting my sweet tooth on preop diet
Kim Benton replied to Knittychic's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I had gastric sleeve in 10/2013 and even with following the diet plan I still felt hungry, cravings don't go away and the sleeve allows slider foods and sweets to go down without complications and I now have GERD. I lost 63 lbs of the 100 lbs I needed to lose and have slowly been creeping back up. I am in the beginning stages of having a sleeve to bypass revision. Only you know what's best for your situation but I just wanted to share my experience. Good luck. -

Severe Gerd/esophogeal dysmotility. Revision vs nissen or just hernia repair?
GreenTealael replied to starladustangel's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had absolutely terrible constipation post revision too! I also had an enema then stayed on laxatives for a long time, under the supervision of my surgeon of course. (I was so afraid of constipation again that I think I stayed on them a lot longer than I should have. In fact I am finally lax free using a stool softener only when necessary. But Iโm happy to report that the plumbing still works on itโs own ๐๐ฝ) Speedy Recovery! -

My biggest fear is regain with all the talk from people about the lack of restriction they feel post vsg to rny revision. I would prefer to keep maintaining close to my current weight as it is a place I am happy with. -
Post surgery pain management tips needed
tnkrbell1984 replied to Lauren23's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I had my lap band done in May 2011 at the time I weighed 281 lbs. I was able to get down to 230 within 6 months but then just stalled out. In 2013 I got pregnant and had my daughter 2/25/15 but after having her I could not get back under 250. (I had extreme port pain the last few months of my pregnancy I think from my growing belly and stuff, some days I wanted to cut it out myself because it hurt so bad) So, I decided to have it converted to gastric bypass. I went into it like it was no big deal and thought I would be fine because I didn't have much pain when I had the band put in. But, on 3/19/15 I woke up in recovery is the worst pain on my left side where the port was. It's now been 6 days and I still hurt so bad. My right side doesn't hurt at all it's just the left. Has anyone else had the same problem if so how long did your pain last. It's making taking care of a 1 yr old who doesn't walk yet suck as I can't move without having sharp pain like I'm being ripped open. Oh they also had to remove my gallbladder as during pre-op testing they saw I had gallstones. On a side note I'm so glad I found this forum because I don't know anyone that has had revision surgery to know what is normal. -
Gastric bypass 2008
OutsideMatchInside replied to prettybutterfly's topic in Gastric Plication Surgery Forum
Some Drs in Mexico will bypass more of your intestine, and some will tighten your pouch. You are better off just eating dense protein than risking another surgery when you probably have scar tissue from the last one. Look at this Lady's YouTube https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC_ZLTY6f9v_YrH7FqVUn7Mw You can't really revise from RNY, not safely anyway. RNY is a one shot thing. This lady has revised and tried to revise with nothing but problems. She always talks about revisions but doesn't focus much on food, well not as much as she should have. -
Gastric bypass 2008
Introversion replied to prettybutterfly's topic in Gastric Plication Surgery Forum
This is a normal phenomenon in gastric bypass patients. It is called intestinal adaptation. Over the years, the small intestine of a person with a gastric bypass adapts to the malabsorption by increasing villi height and absorbing more calories. Enhanced caloric absorption = Weight regain (if you eat crap) It should be noted that those who strictly adhere to the "protein first" dietary mantra do not regain, even after 15 or 20 years out. However, consumption of sliders (crackers, chips, popcorn, etc.) spells trouble. I met someone who had gastric bypass in 2002. In 2011, during prolonged immobilization after fracturing her ankle, she regained 25 pounds in 6 weeks by grazing on potato chips. The weight regain was quizzically rapid. She got back on track and lost the weight, but her diet today consists strictly of lean meats and veggies. My point: once intestinal adaptation has occurred, a revision will not help if you consume snacky slider foods. -
Hello Randi, thanks for starting this conversation! I'm a lurker myself and I finally decided to do something. First thing being taking my lapband this morning!![emoji114][emoji114][emoji114][emoji114]. It was 7 years of a horrible relationship!! This past month was the final end and with the inspiration of those I've read on bariatricpal, I saw my surgeon last week, insurance approved the removal in 2 days after my initial consultation. I'm waiting for the approval for gastric sleeve revision that was submitted 4/30. I'm hoping not to go through the hoops again!๐ค๐ค My surgeon wants to wait 2 to 3 months between removal and revision which I'm fine with although I was initially gutted I couldn't do it simultaneously! I agreed with her reasoning. I've been up and about since removal this morning and will be going to work on Sunday with no problems. I hope to get the sleeve end of summer after a worry and lapband free summer holiday. I'm 5'3" and 199lbs as of this morning. So "low" BMI within a hair's breath of 35 (drank some Water at the surgeon consultation[emoji3]). Totally beyond stalled with the lapband and hated life after the band! Paid out of pocket too[emoji25][emoji25]. Everyone here has been inspirational and I pray to actually get to a weight I've thought was impossible and I hope to share for that person like me.
