Hi All!! Lol I have not been on this page since my surgery date. Want to see how other DSers are doing they had a revision from sleeve last July. It has been an adventure for sure. I am down 75 pounds so far. Lots of hard work, but loving it.

Former (or current) band folks

Hello, I have had sudden nausea too. I didn't pass out, but no one can tell me it isn't related to the band. I hate it. I'm starting the process for a revision. I'm nervous about it, but the thought of getting rid of the band and reading about others who are happy with their revisions is giving me hope. -
There's a TON of people on the site who are revisions from band to sleeve or RNY. Give it a quick search. I believe Even the site's creator is making the switch. They all appear to be MUCH HAPPIER. safe journey VSG2017 HW 249 SW 238 CW 167

OKC Revision replied to BigDreamer2021's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Had my revision of gastric sleeve to bypass on 4/20 and down 31! GERD is relieved and I have graduated to beans, quinoa and chicken! Still having 2 protein shakes a day and trying to eat at least one meal a day. I've had a harder time with food this time around, so trying to stay patient... -
The peso has also gone way down, that's why the pieces have dropped in dollars. I just went to Dr. Aceves for a fill on Saturday and the cost for the flouro was only $60 instead of $75 because of the exchange rate. As for why I chose the band over the sleeve, I was not interested in cutting off a perfectly good part of my body. I realize it takes longer to lose the weight and you have to work at it, and it requires follow up but I was OK with all of those things. With the band everyone has their individual "sweet spot" yet with the sleeve it's an irreversable one size fits all. That just seems odd to me. The potential for revision from band to sleeve is there but not the other way around. I'm just a chicken, what can I say! LOL. With that being said, Dr. Aceves is the best choice for either (and yes I'm biased ) I believe he is doing more sleeves then bands now because of the demand. The day of my surgery I was the only band and there were 2 others getting sleeved.

Dilemma- Surgeon mask covering nose?
Travelmego replied to Travelmego's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Hi, Thank you for the tips - What is Hibiclens -and just curious but how does applying it the night before help? Won't the body just get recontaminated from the sheets and stuff while you sleep? I have never heard of Hibiclens before. What are nares? (I can google it) By the way, I didn't mean the articles specifically for you because I know you already knew the info lol. I made a thread with a bunch of videos of various surgeons in Mexico doing the sleeve. Check it out and tell me what you think of them if you have time. I would love your feedback. Rodriguez is a bit pricey for me.How much did he charge you extra for being a revision? Usually it is 500, I think. That does bring him down into my second option range of 6,500. However, I still am hoping to find a surgeon in the 4,500 range that 'ticks the boxes' as someone in another thread said. If nothing else, hopefully this thread will make people more aware of the issue and demand excellent sterile techniques from whichever doctor they choose regardless where that doctor is located. In the case of Mexico, if the coordinators realize that people are paying attention to this, they will give that feedback to the doctors who will be forced to improve. Hopefully, they won't just make a video of themselves with better techniques but not practice it in reality. Not to be an a## but I think everyone should ask for a video of the operating procedure both inside the body, and outside in the larger room. Since it is so difficult to sue in Mexico - the only thing keeping doctors from cutting corners etc. is word of mouth and video evidence. They will know people can put the video on youtube where anyone can see what's up. That way surgeons are held accountable. The smart and business minded doctor would immediately start doing this so as to draw business his/her way since there seems to be an issue. I would be fine paying an extra 50 to have video of the entire room. It costs very little to set up a few cameras and hook them to a laptop. -

So, here's the deal. I had RNY gastric bypass 20 years ago. I probably lost about 80lbs, I remember distinctly never weighing less than 200lbs. In the last 20 years, I've gained all of the weight back. About 5 years ago, I found out that WLS could be revised. After some research, I recently decided to pursue a revision. I have a consultation with a surgeon scheduled this Friday. I would like to hear from anyone who had an RNY gastric bypass revised. What was the experience like? What procedure did your surgeon choose for you? Tell me about your outcomes. Thank in advance

Revision of RNY
RNY 2ND RODEO replied to Notthe1sttime's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had rny gastric bypass in 2001. Went from 516 to 175. Then I started gaining again. Old habits are hard to break. Cokes and pizza. Now Im scheduled for revision on 8/23/19. I feel so ashamed. Back to 400 lbs. This time I need to follow the rules instead of finding ways around them. Sent from my LGMP260 using BariatricPal mobile app -

Need a Revision Expert in / surrounding the KC Area
former_vbg posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Ok, just trying to get recommendations for WLS surgeons who have extensive experience with revisions. I can't seem to get any response from the office of one well known surgeon in the KC area. Another surgeon has little experience with Sleeves or Revisions. The other surgeon I know of in the KC area I'm not sure I trust due to his NON-STOP t.v. advertisements and infomercials that run every night in the middle of the night with the same people praising high glory to this surgeon's practice. That is a huge turn off for me because since I can't seem to find a way to verify the number of procedures they have done from an objective party, I don't know that I would trust what they did tell me even if it was what I wanted to hear. This could be Lawrence, KS, Sedalia, MO, Columbia, MO or KC of course. Suggestions/ Referrals appreciated. -

Hi everyone, I’m new to this forum and planning to have revision from lap band to sleeve. Lap band experience was not good a waist of insurance money. Is a month wait for approval the usual weight time?
-
There are a few minor tweaks that are commonly done to bypasses to try to improve things, like band over bypass or stoma tightening procedures, but they overall don't seem to have a great success record. The best results revisionwise is to revise to the DS (duodenal switch) but that's a complex procedure for which maybe a half dozen or so surgeons around the country are qualified - you are in luck if you are in California or the NY/NJ area as that's where most of them are, otherwise count on travelling for that solution.

I know this is a topic that gets a lot of judgment on this forum. All I am asking is kindness in response. I am looking into getting my sleeve turned into RNY. I successfully lost all of my weight and kept it off for two years. I then got pregnant with twins. It was a high risk pregnancy and I didn't gain any weight during the first two trimesters. Due to pressure from my OB and my own fears about my babies I began to eat as much as I physically could. To be clear, I am not blaming anyone but myself, I am just explaining that it wasn't the typical slipping back into bad habits situation. After I gave birth to my premature daughters (who are now fine, healthy, amazing), I was stuck in the habit of continually overeating. It's a rut I continually fight to get out but I am now looking at revision to RNY because of this. Does anyone have success stories, words of wisdom, or revision after pregnancy experience? Thank you, Jen

Tell him to research band complications. I had the band put in April 2008, I didn't want anything permeate. I have had nothing but pain and complications since. At my highest was 230 only got down to 189 with band. Going through a break up lost 40lbs but was not band related, and gained it all back. Counting calories workin out and taking phentramine was able to lose 30lbs but would put it back on soon as I stopped diet pills. Always had chest pains from the band, had pouch dilation, band slipped, apple lodged in it ect. Was revised from band to sleeve Monday, doctor said the band had become unstitched from my stomach, was in wrong place and I had lower esophagus dilation. My mom is looking to have hers removed too from similar problems. All the doctors and nurses I've talk to at the hospital said most doctors will not even discuss band as an option anymore

Has anyone had surgery with Humana as their insurance? If so, is the approval process through them easy? Original insurance was Cigna with the lapband 5 years. Now, I'm trying to have revision surgery to the sleeve with my company's new insurer. Any helpful information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Marginal/anastomotic ulcer anyone?
eudys3 replied to eudys3's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Just a quick update, possibly to give hope for healing- Had my repeat EGD on 11/16, 5 months after my marginal ulcer was found so that I had to take that yucky compounded immediate-release omeprazole w/ sodium bicarbonate & Pepcid & Carafate. I still have gastritis (stomach pouch irritation) but my ulcer has healed! I was really afraid I would need a revision or worse, a reversal. I am able to eat now without pain-yea! I have stopped losing weight which has been a huge concern for my family & friends; my mother says I look "gaunt." I am so glad I did all the online research I did on marginal ulcer healing; Bariatric Times is a great resource, geared to the medical profession so the terminology might be a bit difficult. Keep the faith, everyone. You could be as fortunate as I have been. Good luck to all. -
I just had my revision from lap band to sleeve on October 29th and I live in Cloquet, or 30 minutes south of Duluth.

Revision from lap- band, already removed
CaliGirl77 posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Hi All, My Dr's office submitted my paperwork to my insurance company Blue Shield last Monday. They came back requesting more info pre and post weight/BMI? We finally understood they were asking for my info pre and post lap band. I had it placed in 2006 and removed in 2009/2010. I removed it since it just didn't work and we wanted to start a family. My question is do any of you have any experience with insurance companies denying based upon past failures? I don't feel this should even be an issue for them and not sure why they ate linking into it,so any insight would be great thanks. Sent from my SM-N920V using the BariatricPal App -
GoddessMoon, this is the first time Ive been on any forum and I've never experienced rudeness like this. If you read my post, I had a lapband years ago and this was suppose to revise that (which was $1000 more) and do the sleeve. In regards to you question, its hard to tell what difference it would feel. What finally happened is the lap got more and more constrictions that I had to have fixed. My gastro dr ordered the upper GI and CT which showed no sleeve before he had to start doing EGDs.
