10 weeks and can barely eat

I'd check in with your Dr. At 10 weeks out life should be getting easier for you not more difficult. How much are you eating a day? Protein and calorie wise? I've not had any nausea and can eat my serving size of protein. I shoot for 90g of protein and under 900 cals a day and have no problem hitting those numbers. Hope they figure it out for you.

10 weeks and can barely eat

Call your doc. I have had nausea due to acid. My PPIs are starting to make that better. Some days for me are better than others, but I still eat a very little bit at a time. Annoying since I can barely get in my calories and Protein.... I still supplement with a Protein Drink. I also had another EGD done. Nothin' was found on me. I wish they would have upped the PPIs before they wanted the EGD.... Good luck!
  3. Hi all! I was banded on 8/30 by Dr. Darrin Hansen in Salt Lake City. Since I was able to gleen so much help and support on these forums before and after that time I though it only fair that I post my experiences so far so that I can return the favor to those that follow... My pre-op diet: Dr. Hansen put my on a 2 week pre-op diet. He didn't dictate any special diet, he just wanted me to 'lose some weight' to help with my liver size. I decided to stick to 1100 calories/day eating as much vegetables as possible. It wasn't easy and I was often very hungry, but I stuck it out and lost 35 pounds. :biggrin1: Operation day: I had never had an operation before, so I had the normal fears and anxieties as everyone else on this board. As long as I didn't think about it I was ok. I managed to avoid the 'last meal' syndrome and tried to not eat much the day before just to make things easier post-op. Despite my worries they got an IV in me just fine. They didn't actually say 'we are going to put you under now' so I eventually woke up in recovery. Dr. Hansen said things went perfectly -- my liver wasn't a problem and I was only under for about 60 minutes. Hurray! Post-op: It took my about 2 hours to clear away the haze from being put under. Due to my sleep apnea they had already planned to keep me in the hospital overnight so I was in my own room with my wife by my side. I ended up with 4 teeny incisions and one bigger one (which I still can't tell how big it is since it's covered in a mass of steri-strips). My pain level was ok until about 7pm (surgery was at 11am) -- they gave me some liquid Lortab and it helped. I was able to sleep off and on (with regular interruptions from the nurses for vital checking, etc.). Dr. Hansen called me that night to see how I was doing. He's a great doctor! He said he put in a 'bigger band' but I'm not sure exactly what that means -- I'll check at my follow-up next week. Day 2: Dr. Hansen came by early in the morning to give me a final look-over and then he signed me out. I was ready to go home. I had a Lortab prescription but never used it. I did end up using Children's Liquid Motrin about three times during recovery to take the edge off. Day 3-5: Dr. Hansen had me on Clear liquids for this stage -- I drank as much as I could but only had about 100 calories a day in Special K Protein Water and Gatorade and broth a couple times. I had a little Jell-o for a treat but couldn't eat much (not from restriction, just lack of desire and hunger). I used Gas-X strips to try and head off the gas pains, but they hit bad on days 5 and 6. Seem to be a little better today (day 8). Day 6-7: I moved to full liquids these days. I still didn't drink much though -- about 600 calories. I started my Protein shakes these days and had some yougurt. Still not too hungry, though I think my stomach growled a few times (it hard to tell exactly what it's doing nowadays). My muscles aren't sore anymore, but my port incision is, especially in certain postions. I still can't sleep on my side. Last night I was able to sleep all night for the first time -- that was nice! Before I was only getting 3-4 hours of sleep at a time, which precipitated lots of naps. Day 8 (today): I'm on to mushies! So far I haven't had any yet though -- just my Protein shake. It's 2pm and I think I'm hungry now so I'll go see what I can rustle up. I started taking my Multivitamin today (Horray for Flintstones!). I'm aiming for 800 calories during the next week I'm on mushies. After that I'm on a special soft food/mushy diet for three weeks to promote healing. I have my followup appointment next week. No fills scheduled yet. All-in-all it's been easier than I thought it would be so far, though defintely not easy. Including my pre-op diet I've lost over 50 pounds. For the first time in my life I have hope that I'll lose the remaining 250.:biggrin1: Cascavel
  4. Hey Val! Do you track your food with something like myfitnesspal? That will keep track of the protein and nutrients- you might up the calories a couple days a week, with nuts or something that's full of protein...just a suggestion..

    I'm new here....

Welcome and you are not alone! My surgery is 9/23 and I having to deal with the pre-op diet. I have two to three protein drinks as well as 2 sensible meals(low fat, low carb, low calorie). I too am struggling with issues at night. I do just fine during the day, but nighttime is the worst for me! Good luck on your surgery...keep us posted!!!
  6. Hi everybody! I am new here. I have been lurking for a little while and I have to say you all are a really good group of people. As I have been doing research on the lap band, I have come accross other forums, and I must say this one definately has the nicest, most supportive people. I am scheduled to have surgery on Sep. 22. Today I started on all clear liquids until the day of surgery. I am really wondering how I will handle this. I'm excited but scared at the same time. I guess I will take this hour by hour. The time I worry about most is at night. I have always taken in the bulk of my calories at night. The carbs have helped me go to sleep. I don't know if I can go to sleep hungry. Well, I will look forward to getting to know all of you and I pray that each and everyone of you is getting along ok and will be successful in you weight loss efforts. God Bless! Cindy

    No restriction!

If you don't feel you enough Fluid in your band, then why haven't you gone back in for another fill? Also, keep in mind fills won't make you lose weight. They are meant to dim your hunger and keep you satisfied on much less food. Losing weight happens when you consume you less calories than you burn and that is up to you, not the band. The band just makes it easier because you're not nearly as hungry. Follow up with your surgeon and let him help you.
  8. I had surgery 8/27/14 and lost 10 pounds the first week. I am three weeks out today but the scale has NOT moved in the past two weeks. I am tracking my food intake with My Fitness Pal and I am getting plenty of Protein.....eating ONLY things on the "approved" diet list (only about 700 calories a day!).....even joined a gym and am working out almost daily (walking a mile on the treadmill and 20 minutes on the elliptical machine). Even people who don't know I had surgery say they notice I am losing weight. I can tell a difference in my face, my stomach, my backside.....my watch is looser, my rings are looser, my shoes are looser, my pants are looser. How is it POSSIBLE the scale is not moving?????? Experienced sleevers -- HELP!!!

    Please Help! :(

I was sleeved on 10/1. And am a PCOS girl too... My biggest reason for surgery was to try to have a baby. I completely feel you! I have lost about 10 pounds since surgery but have stalled over the last week totally. I didn't expect to see the stall so soon. I knew it would happen eventually... But if I add back calories at all I gain weight. It's scary for me. I walk 2-3 miles several days a week also, and eat/drink around 400 calories per day. It's amazing to me that with so few calories I'm not dropping the weight faster. The doc is ok with my loss so far though. He says to make sure I am getting enough fluids and I try to get a min if 64 per day. And 80-100g protein. How are you doing on fluids and proteins??

    Question on juices?

Maybe some crystal light or diet v8 splash, if you drink juice its a whole lot of calories, read the labels and you will see what i mean.
  12. Have the beef broth, especially if you like it. It is much harder to get any calories and liquid in if you don't like the taste. The worst thing the sodium will do is help you retain water, which, given that we have a tendency to dehydrate might not be such a bad thing.

    3 wks post op...stall

I too have stalled from week 3-4, I am praying that it starts up again soon. I've heard others say if you don't get in enough calories also, like around 700-900 a day that our bodies will think there starving and just hold onto the weight. So we need to look at protein and calorie intake when we eat and of course our water!

    Not doing good......at all!

Hi Hammer, I agree with everything LJM had to say. I live in an area where there is no support group at all---so I understand that part of it! I come here to LBT---I usually get help, understanding and loving support! I have also told everyone in real life, so have people who know--so that too helps. I don't have a set amount of food I eat at one sitting. I try to plan my meals around what I consider to be healthy. Not 100% Protein, but also not much inthe starchy side of things either! I have never been one to seriously count my calories, etc. I had a goal to be healthy. I try to eat that way, and as much as I love food, I have to try to remember it is actually fuel for my body, and to try to get my enjoyment in life from something besides food!! I do enjoy food still, in a different way. Where before I would have a large steak and baked potato loaded, veggies and bread. I will now buy the best small filet steak I can find---and make a salad. I buy the tastiest salad dressings---I cannot eat a lot of it, so do not use the calories as my deciding factor. I eat a lot of spicy foods. It makes my palate happy with less food. I get more enjoyment in less bulk. Maybe that is my mind playing tricks--but it works! As for the PB's---have you seen a pattern in them? Certain foods? Places? Time of day? I found myself getting the golf ball feeling everyday when I would go to lunch with DH---finally decided I was either eating too fast, or not chewing well--or likely both. I have to seriously concentrate in those situations. Try keeping track, and see if a pattern emerges. Til then, like LJM said, be sure to go back to liquids following a PB, or you are setting yourself up for another due to swelling, and an evil cycle begins sometimes. And like she said, exercise! Even several short walks a day do amazing things!!! Good Luck~~ Keep us posted~ Kat

5 years out need advice please

Way to go! You are getting your head back in the game. Success is the sum of small efforts repeated day in and day out. I never use the bariatric store. When you deprive cravings, you want them more. Are there better options that you can buy for sweet and salty cravings? Hope others can jump in here and help with healthy sweet and salty snacks that are more cost effective. make sure food advice fits your food plan.. Sweet: Plain fruit, fruit dipped in sugar free cholate syrup Salad greens, chicken, strawberries, blue cheese and pecans Skinny girl raspberry vinaigrette. Dannon lite n fit Greek yogurt sugar free popsicles Roasted pumpkin and apple drizzled with sugar free maple syrup. sprinkle with cinnamon, (small amount with your protein goes a long way) Salty: Veggies dipped in hummus (cut calories by mixing plain yogurt in hummus) Chicken fajitas or taco salad (no tortilla) Parmesan cheese crisps Cup of chicken broth.

    vitamins, vitamins vitamins!

I use Trader Joe's High Potency multi chewables - for the first year I took a double dose. My labs have always been great. Oh and for the first few weeks after surgery I did a double dose of liquid multi-vitamins, Wellesse brand. You can buy that at Amazon or I think at Vitamin Shoppe/GNC type places. I was also told no gummies as they tend to be incomplete plus higher calorie and carb than other vitamins.

    Stall/Gaining HELP!?!

Oof, I’m a bit over 6 months and I’ve also been stalled for about 1.5 weeks. Very annoying, since I’m getting plenty of exercise and 1000 calories per day. At my height that’s definitely a calorie deficit. I’ve just decided to step away from the scale for a few weeks and not worry about it. If I was snacking a ton or eating things that were off-plan that would be one thing but I just don’t think that’s the case. If I’m still this weight in in two weeks then I’ll be back here with a bit more panic and plans to shake things up. Otherwise, just the lovely scale driving us nuts as it loves to do.
  19. I'm 11 months out of sleeve surgery. I came to build a routine in what I eat, and I absolutely enjoy every meal. Even if it's exactly the same as yesterday. I love it. Here's what I eat in a day (and the day after, and the one after.... 🙂 Breakfast: 2 eggs, 4 oz of diced lean ham (pork or turkey, or a turkey patty), 1 oz leek, 1 oz sweet peppers, all scrambled together. Add 6-8 cherry tomatoes and an espresso with 1 oz of 2% milk. Lunch: 5 oz of lean meat (chicken breast, pork loin, beef sirloin) grilled or pan seared, 2 cups of shredded fresh cabbage, one tablespoon of light mayonnaise Dinner: 5 oz of fish (cod, mahi, salmon, tuna, shrimp) and 1 cup of sliced zucchini or snap peas, all pan seared together, plus one Danon Light&Fit yogurt. That's about 1100 calories a day. Throw in the occasional apple or cup of berries, and it's 1200 calories, all in. And that's ALL I've been eating for the last 10 months. The only variation is the type of meat or fish I have. Or what flavor yogurt I choose. I'm not bored, and I look forward to every meal. It makes it easy to shop for and cook. Do yourself a huge favour and throw away ALL the crisps, cakes and any other greasy or sugary snacks you may have in the house. Then don't buy them again. If you really must snack, bite into an apple, or chew on a carrot. It keeps the mouth busy, without adding much caloric content. Oh, and I drink a gallon of water a day, to stave off constipation. Hang in there, believe in yourself, and maybe talk to a therapist or a friend about it.
  20. I think it's totally normal to want the scale to move! It's a natural way to measure success. I'm a scale jumper myself. I need to NOT get on every day or two.. *sigh* You look incredible, BTW! And 75 pounds?! Wow!!! I graze as well... I seem to keep myself in check at work, as there's not as much time to graze.. but being home is the worst! I do treat myself to a 100 calorie bag of popcorn every day or two. And I fall off the proverbial wagon on the regular. But, I get back up again... I keep going! I'm down 80 - 82 pounds. I've gone from a size 28 to an 18 (almost 16). I feel great!!!! But, the slowed weightloss hurts my ego and therefore my progress :'( I need to watch the grazing... make better choices when I'm out... and NOT run to the gas station during work for snacks! Old habits die hard...

    information please !

Anything is possible if you work for it. With the band you have the tool and you will and do need to do the work. There are some on here who have lost large amounts of weight very quickly with the band. It's going to come off the way you and your body allow it to. Though 30 pounds by July is not unrealistic if you are watching portions/calories and getting in some exercise.

    Bad Day

Sounds pretty normal. Week 3 is pretty fresh in my mind (week 6 for me) I had days just like you describe. For me, I think those days where a result of my body just not having enough calories in the previous days and wanted a rest. Usually I was up and able the next day to start on getting my liquid and protein in. Hope you feel better tomorrow.
  23. I really despise the taste of Protein powders. I've tried several brands and they all smell and taste like formula. We can't get Isopure in Canada and I've really been struggling with protein intake so I've started to make my own. It's around 370 calories but it makes a lot and has 23g+ of protein and lots of fibre. 1/3 cup oatmeal (I grind it to powder in food processor and soak overnight in the milk) 1 1/2 cups skim milk 50g Greek yoghurt 1/2 cup frozen fruit 2tbsp ground flaxseed Blast it in the blender and drink it all day. I only use a little yogurt because I don't like it. That and my allergy to cheese are the main reasons I'm struggling with protein. I find that it's sweet enough as is but you could add some stevia, honey or agave if needed.
  24. I gained 10 lbs. from the day I was admitted to the next day when I left the hospital. Took awhile for all those fluids they pumped into me to exit my body. As long as your calories are low, and you're following your surgeon's plan, it'll come off soon.
  25. Help! I'm not sure what is going on, but I am always hungry now. It started a little over a week ago. i went from not wanting to eat anything and having no cravings AT ALL - to this. And I can eat a lot (i think) before feeling full! i have been so good for over 6 months (4 months post op and 2 months prior). I was worried because I had to force myself to eat and I hated it. I mean I was NEVER hungry before. even the 2 months prior to surgery, i had trained myself to eat better and know the difference between head hunger and real hunger. Now, I crave carbs - not sweets. Always. I tried some baked pita chips with Hummus and that was the wrong thing because now I am wanting it all the time. y calorie intake went from 700-800 to almost 1200! (I am still burning more than that - but still.) I still do Protein shakes and make sure to get 60g or more of protein in a day. Anyone else? Suggestions for better snack ideas?
