Perspectives on Losing Fast & Slow

Thank you for sharing that. That's really helpful. I don't have my surgery date yet but I'm in the last leg of my approval process and i know my process will be a long road too. When i attended the class for the RNY surgery i felt uncomfortable just because i felt others were wondering why are you here. I am a revision patient due to GERD and the damage it's caused internally. I need to lose at least 90lbs and to me that's a significant amount. But to others not so much. So i fully understand that we all have different journeys. I guess the important thing is to know your journey, don't get discourage when others lose weight at a faster pace than us and celebrate each accomplishment. flipped port/twisted port

My port also flipped. I think the first day home after having the band placed. I felt it. I had the port revision and fill of 2cc. I went to doc yesterday and gained 1lb. I am so frustrated. I started exercising as told and I gained. I do not understand.
  3. I don't want to scare you but your symptoms sound very similar to the ones I had and it turned out to be a slip. I wasn't losing weight because I could eat more, yet at night I'd have night coughs and I'd never digest anything...it didn't make sense so I went in and sure enough I had to get a revision surgery. Good luck.

    flipped port/twisted port

Teri, So the twisted port, it is okay now? Will it go back to normal? If they revise it, that means they go back in? I still look like I have a third boob. I swear I thought it would be hidden. Even so where the swelling is turns out the port is lower. If I try I can even feel it. But I do worry, which is why no sit ups. Teri, really, my stomach hangs so low anyway, will it really do any good. I have a Turkey Neck - gobble gobble gobble Hanging Turkey Arms Hanging tummy But my but and thighs are getting firm from walking. Hey I am over 50, I don't need a tight butt, I would like a less saggy neck though. Everyone tries to be helpful and they say, Oh you can take care of that. WHAT ANOTHER SURGERY. No way, I guess I will come to love the extra skin. Don't they have that squishy undies that sucks you in??? Besides, as down as I might get, when I see as I was told by my Band Buddy - two wet tube socks hanging from your chest, I remember my real reason for the band. To get healthy. I just have to keep my eye on the ball - a healthy heart. Sorry for being down, bad day, terrible day, shitty day, you pick the word. Debbie:blush:

Anyone having surgery in Oct ?

@@395Ron don't be too worried about after surgery!! I had surgery 12 hours ago and it was a revision so they had to pull out my lapband on top of doing RNY and I feel pretty great! I was terrified before surgery but valum they gave me helped lol. I came to hospital in Mexico by myself but there's tons of other patients here all walking the halls together and everyone feels pretty good, it's not so bad.

Anyone having surgery in Oct ?

@@CHELLB33 I guess I am a bit nervous too since I am a revision patient. What we do know is that my stomach is twisted. He said it could be longer than normal surgery time because they don't really know until they get in. I have a hernia repair too! I am glad they were able to get you all fixed up and on the road to recovery. How are you feeling this morning? When will you get released?

    Final Choice

I was open for either but my surgeon chose sleeve for me. The reasoning was that if I didn't lose enough or had issues, I would still have the option for a revision to lose more if I needed whereas bypass is a one shot deal. Also I'm an athlete and the malabsorption issues might have caused a problem with a high activity level. I think sleeve was the right choice for me and while my loss has been slower than some I've been able to maintain muscle mass which I don't think I could have done with the bypass.
  9. When I met my husband of 8 years ago I already had RnY surgery...and was at my lowest adult weight at that time and looking and feeling fabulous! But about 4-5 years ago I started gaining weight and I can tell although he does not say anything he does not like the weight gain. I decided finally to seek a revision of my previous procedure and I am currently in the preop surgery process with all the tests and appts., we have talked about it and he is happy either way with my decision to do the revision surgery or to continue trying to lose it without surgery. People's inner self can manifest at any time,so for some the weightloss was their catalyst sadly!!
  10. So I had my follow up, he is sending me to the Cleveland clinic. My case is far to complicated. I should add prior to my sleeve I had a band, which was revised once. So I am a re-re-re- revision. He said his opinion is I need a second opinion. So I will wait. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  11. no problem Mac..... Have you been approved Yet? Reason i'm asking..... most insurance requires 35 BMI with 2 co morbids. When i had my band in 2009 it was the requirement. ORRR 40 BMI which is where i was. 5'2" and 232lbs. This time i didn't have to because i was still considered a revision even though my band was removed 2.5+ years ago. My bmi this time was 31. SW 173.5..... Today, 145.2 Fk yes.... Back to you.... if you have not be approved yet, you may want to lay off the dieting. Some insurance with not approve you if they see a weight loss. My dr. advised me to not lose anything till i got the final approval. Did you go watch the youtube vids...??? I've been in the WLS community for over 10 years and he is 100% right with everything he says..... no sugar coating with him at all.
  12. I got my first band in march of 2006 and i think but am not sure that it started slipping in december of 2006. Final blockage in november 2007. I had an immediate revision. I did not do like many people and have it taken out and reinstalled later. They just put in in higher

    Opinions

Yes.. my insurance would pay for all of it.. but my copay and the 1,100 revision fee the surgeon charges..
  14. I don't know but before I had my surgery I was worried about stories of regain ect and my surgeon said not to worry about that just do what I'm suppose to do BUT if I ever needed it he could always do a revise. I don't see that happening. My husband took the kids and I out for my early birthday breakfast I always get the eggs Benedict and I ate the exact same amount I ate at 3 months post-op. A good 5 bites and done. I've been eating on that same meal ALL day! I finally throw it away. See what your surgeon says. You would be different case than me.

Any February Surgery Dates Out There?

Hi all! I had revision (VBG to rny) February 10th so I am 4 days out. Going back to work tomorrow. We'll see how that goes. Have not used any pain meds since I've been home but I have slept so much that I'm finding it hard to get all of my fluids in. I'm only allowed water, crystal light, Powerade zero and broths. I can add protein drinks next week. My dr said three weeks liquid then four weeks soups then start soft diet. I'm going on a cruise in April and hope to try soft foods before we go so I know what I can handle. These forums have been very informative and encouraging! Thanks!

Any February Surgery Dates Out There?

Hang in there it does get better! My surgery was two day before yours and Monday at work for me was a killer and I sit all day. It is better now. Taking short walk breaks of 4-5 min few times a day. I am worried about getting all the fluid in but we can do it! I understand your exhaustion completely just hang in there and try to move as much as possible. I only lost 6 lbs first week which was disappointing considering taking in zero calories and my dr told me yesterday that revisions loose slower sometimes. We can do this! Don't be discouraged!

    Unsupportive Sister and Mother

I can so relate to the fears and issues over family / friends not being supportive. When I had my VBG 13 years ago, I only told about 2 or 3 friends, no family members- none, nadda, zip and to this day they do not know I had the surgery. They just figured I lost a bunch of weight the "old fashioned way". I'm SOOOOO glad I didn't because it would make it even harder going into having a revision knowing they would be even more judgmental this time. I favor more of my father's side of the family, although both my parents have weight issues as well as one of my brothers. I won't be telling anyone at work and it goes without saying, no family will be told either. I have only told 3 of my closest friends, people I felt pretty certain they would be supportive or at least willing to listen to me without being judgmental. Even when I go for short term disability from work, my boss will likely try to get me to tell him- but all he will get is that I am having surgery to fix a past surgery that has been causing some complications". That's all he needs to know, if that even. But, to avoid being completely rude and cause an uncomfortable conversation by just flat out saying I won't say, this will be my approach. You have made a sincere attempt to include your family. You have done what you can do and now the rest is up to them to meet you in the middle on this. Like the others have said, this is about YOU- not about THEM. Just keep focused on the goal and you will be fine. The others will have to figure out how to deal with their own insecurities on their own time.

    Anyone for August 2020

I am doing a revision from the sleeve to the bypass. Sort of nervous but everyone tells me I'll be just fine. Best of luck on yours. And whatever you do....stay away from sugary and starchy foods. That was my wrongdoing. Sent from my SM-N975U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Numbing medication with fills

Just a word of advice for you about letting them poke you so many times. I too, had a tilted port and they would poke me several times each fill. Finally it poked a hole in my port and some of the tubing. I had to have a port revision. Not fun, took longer to bounce back from that surgery than the original one. Please don't be afraid to speak up so you don't end up like I did.

    Panicking

I had a revision from Gastric Sleeve to RNY on 1/30/18 so I’m roughly a month out. I’m having trouble tolerating solid food some days I’m fine other days I’m not. I’m terrified I may have stretched my pouch already because of some poor choices. I let stress and depression get to me and I’ve been drinking juice and have had some potato chips. I know bad decision so close out. Have I already screwed my self? Can I still make this work for me? Any tips and advice for getting my life and diet back on track would be appreciated.

    Any October 2021 Surgeries?

When I had mine done a few years back I had the same issue with water. Adding crystal lights minimized the aches going down. It was weird because prior to I didn’t like crystal light and I preferred water solo lol. But it’s true what my Dr. said your taste buds will change. And another thing he strongly suggested was to NOT buy in bulk yet since it’ll all be trial and error until one can discover what one can tolerate, because again what one might tolerate and like prior to surgery can change post. My revision from sleeve to duodenal switch is 10/27!!
  24. I read it and appreciate it. You might save someone's life, too. I am doing so well, as you, so how easy could it happen to anyone of us, this year or five years from now. The lesson=Growing pain in stomach=see surgeon immediately! Gratz on being your own advocate and getting them to fix you! I hope the revision works.

    Leaky Port :(

I am getting a port revision on the 17th. It sucks. i have gained almost 20 lbs being 2 months without restriction. I am exercising and trying to hold back on the calories. it is really hard without help. Good to find a thread where others have had the same issue though. I really appreciate the insight you have given me!
