    HELP!

I'd wait. Every surgery and person is different. I know it's a week out after surgery but no one can tell the future and say you'll be 100% by then. I wouldn't strain yourself or push your limits. I personally think you'd enjoy your time with them so much better if you wait till the new year (and it'll be a great way to start off 2016!) ☺

    Hypothyroidism

It is a little soon to tell (yep we are now two meggies with (soon) sleeves, husbands named Michael, AND hypothyroidism!) but I lost 18 pounds on my two week liquid diet, and have lost 16 in the four weeks since surgery. I am thrilled with it as I too have always lost weight very slowly in the past- but I think I never really got how important the carb factor was and have stuck to that firmly since day one of my pre-op. I think that as long as we keep our levels good we will be ok- jmo. (ps you aren't by any chance left handed? now that might almost be eerie...)
  4. My fiancée and I have been together for 7 years.(He is very thin always have been) When I told him I was thinking about getting banded, he said no “I love you the way you are”, "You are already beautiful" at that point I realized he thought I was doing this for vain reasons. I explained to him that I was doing this not to be beautiful but to be healthy and that I have struggled with my weight all my life. I explained to him that my grandmother died from diabetes before she got to know the woman I became. I explained to him that I wanted to be here for my 7 year old son, 11 month old daughter, and my grandchildren. A week later when I was getting my packet together, he presented me with a letter of support to give to my surgeon. I cried after I read it. I'm glad I have him I’m more glad I told him. Ps: If you getting married I would defiantly tell for medical reasons.

    Help

What a horrible comment to say. . . that was totally unprofessional! I was sleeved by the most sweetest physician ever here in San Antonio. . the office staff is very professional and they will call you back regarding your questions. . . but to answer your question myself, after i had the surgery i DID NOT have any headaches regarding hunger again. . .you won't really experience hunger the way you do now, it's more like pressure, but that comes after the swelling and stuff is over. . . in the first 1 1/2 weeks i lost 32 lbs and then at 7 weeks i had lost 53 lbs. . .i'll weigh in only at the doctor appts and have another appt on the 16th. I know that the weight loss has slowed down drastically but my attitude toward it is whatever! I look really good at the weight i'm at right now so whatever happens happens. . .good luck in your journey and if your interested in more information on my doctor just let me know, he does have his own website. . .

    Just a few random thoughts...

Good times! We're glad to have good people here to share their stories with others, so Thank YOU. Every single week will progress to newer and greater discoveries. It's like that funny story everyone tells you that you just don't quite get. You have to have just "been there" to get it. I love my sleeve!!!
  9. I am trying to buy tickets for my husband and I to fly into San Diago did not think it was going to be so hard!! We usually fly Southwest and buy three seat for the two of us so was are comfortable. Well Southwest does not fly to San Diago so we have to fly United. I am asking if we can just buy the tree tickets and explaned to the guy that we are having surgery so we want to be comfortable on the flight home we need three seats together we get almost finished and he says oh we dont have seats together! I was like why would I need to seat not together!! I can understand if it was not three together but two???? Why would one person buy two seats under the same name on two different rows!! uggggggg

    Help!

[i am at a stall. I have been stuck here for months! I don't know what to do! I cut my carbs, increased my protein, I am hungry all the time. Do I starve? I don't know what to do! Any advice, please?????
  11. I had my consultation a couple weeks ago. My surgeons office sent in for approval and have not heard back yet. I know they will deny the first attempt, as this is the only way for the surgeon to find out what specific criteria I need to meet. We have tried and tried to find out what criteria I need to meet, but the only thing they will tell me is that we need to submit and they will enter it into InterQual smart sheets (So much for transparency). I'm wondering if it is a good idea to just have my attorney write a letter right away? I realize I am getting ahead of myself, but already they have been a pain to work with. Has anyone here had any luck hiring an attorney to help them advocate their appeal?

    Irritated with Family Dinner

You're doctor can give you a card that says you just had surgery. This will allow you to order off the kids meal. Later on you'll be able to eat a bit more but not now. This is your new life. It took me a while to get used to it too. I'm 9 months post open & have lost 130 lbs. 90 more to go. Your friends should be supportive.of you. If not find new friends. Grilled lean meats & veggies is the norm now. Start an exercise program if you haven't yet. Walk a couple of miles at a park 4 times a week. Join a gym. Your body will thank you. It takes time to retrain your old habits. You can do it. Good Luck

    I'm new here

First of all, thank you to anyone who listens to my story I found this wonderful site will researching questions about having the sleeve surgery. I found the most wonderful information and people here. I have read so many stories and have had questions answered about many things. I was reluctent to post anything until I found out my insurance was approved and yesterday I got the approval letter!.. It was very exciting until I called my doctor's office and they said they haven't recieved their copy. I was kind of bummed so I faxed it over still nothing heard from them. I guess I am a little anxious. My goal was going to try to have the surgury while I was on summer break from school. There have been lots of complications it took about a month for them to get back my bloodwork and needless to say I have been bugging the doctor's office, but I finally called the lab and found it it was them who didn't fax over the paperwork! My hopes for having this surgury before school started were diminishing and when they called to schedule the pre op apointment it was scheduled for July 14 th! Three days after I go back to school! I am already registered for classes and I don't want to give up on my dreams of becoming a pastry chef. I have 6 more classes to take and I graduate in March. There have been alot of ups and downs in this process in the beginning of my journey my insurance had a lapse and I had to wait a month until it started again. I am going to try and mabye do the surgery and miss a couple classes. Some things that are unique to my situation is that I take care of seven children. This is because I had a husband pass away and I remmarried. My current husband had three kids and I had three kids so we decided to have one together. I know crazy huh? He is now almost four years old. My current husband is very supportive and he watches the kids so I can go to school. He is an amazing man and i am lucky to have him. Having the one husband die I am naturely terrified of dying in this surgery, but I know probably healthwise I need this surgury. I have gout which is a condition that is very painful if I do not manage my diet very carefully to avoid all red meat. I am hoping the weight loss will help cure the gout, but most of all I just want to be healither. Also does anyone know usually when the surgury gets scheduled after the pre-op apointment? Well this is my story thanks for taking the time to read it I can't wait to join all of you on the loser's bench lol

    Keloid scarring?

Don't worry Aphrodite, you are only a couple of weeks out. Once the incisions are closed up, start using vitamin E cream or oil. Massage is the most important thing to stop keloid scars forming. All surgery incisions feel very "hard" in the first 2-4 weeks. The same thing happened to me, i freaked out because i thought i was getting keloid scars, but 3 months out and my scars are just fine - getting better every day. Hope this helps - just do what you can, with Vitamin E or Cica-Care strips (if you can afford them), and all will be good.
  15. Hoping someone can might know the answer. I was about as far along as possible last wed. in hospital and literally ready for surgery. My surgeon and the anestig. where speaking with me and my wife when I mentioned that I was having muscle cramps. Due to me being on a statin and the muscle cramps the surgeon felt that this elecvated my risk of complications for surgery so surgery was canceled until this wed. and I was taken off the statin(crestor). Here I am two days away again and I thought I would sail thru past week as I had already had dry run(lol) but has not happened. I can't get out of my mind maybe last week was a sign I should not do this now. I was wondering if I postpone will my insurance cover me for this in future.
  16. I have started stage 4 pureed foods. I have been constipated for 1 week. Did anyone else have this problem?
  17. Hi All: I'm waking up in my own bed this morning -- had the surgery in Mexico on Monday, and spent yesterday traveling home to New York. Just a weird, but probably normal, concern....if I bend over, I can feel the port kind of "click" against me. No pain -- well, I have all-over tenderness, I mean, I WAS cut open! -- but just a little click-click that lets me know it's there. Sound familiar, anyone? Blue

Menu today - Doing Master Cleanse before I start the BFL diet/exercise challenge next week. Exercise - 5 am - 34 min on treadmill, 3% incline, 3.3 mph, 238 calories, 1.76 distance. Notes - i have my 2nd fill tomorrow, a little nervous about it. I have no problems right now, no PBing, no sliming, I can eat pretty much anything and everything, but don't eat more than 1 cup of food. Wt this morning read 196.6:phanvan TOM is here, so I'm sure that is why. Not really too worried about it. Wednesday is my 3 mos banding anniversary, I will take my measurements, take a progression photo. I will also take a photo for my "before" pic for the 12 week BFL challenge that I am going to begin on Monday 4/23/07.
  19. I personally don't think malabsorption procedures are appropriate for people who are not going to be compliant with supplements - even if they might "need" the dumping to keep them straight. Someone who won't take their supplements, despite the obvious signs of malnutrition, probably won't be deterred by dumping. They'll find a way to work around it - like only eating ice cream in a comfortable setting so they can run straight to the bathroom. I think your mother-in-law and others like her would be better candidates for the VSG, plication, or (yikes!) even the band. Better for her to stall out with weight loss from overeating than to be totally malnurished.
  20. just went to find some new pants and a top so that I have something that is "business casual" in my closet.. and pre op I was a 22/24 pant and GUESS WHAT?! size 18 pants fit me!!!!!! I'm SO excited! I'm still wearing a 1X top though (blame on my tatas hahaha) but I started at size 2- 3X tops pre op so I'm pretty happy about that! I know I have a long way to go but I'm on my way folks! SO happy I got sleeved! the first pic is of me at Venice Beach just before surgery.. weighed 262 lbs there. the next 2 pics I took today while trying on the size 18 pants!!!!!! YAY! today I am 3 weeks post op and weigh 235.. that's 27 lbs lost so far I just realized the pics are little but if you click on them you can see the bigger version!
  21. You're not doing anything wrong and making poor nutritional decisions to speed weight loss is a bad idea. We're already losing a LOT of weight compared to a traditional diet, even though it might not seem that way. You can't judge your weight loss by what others do. Personally, I only lose about 4-5 pounds a week. Sure, I want to be done already, I'm as impatient as the next person However, it adds up. I've lost almost 100 pounds total now, and you will too You and I had similar start weights.
  22. And I'm finally on puréed foods for 4 weeks! I don't know if I can do this... Today I pureed chicken with some chicken broth, it was awful! I also did some carrots they weren't bad. How in the world do you make it on pureed foods? Looks to me like I'll be drinking my shakes for the next 4 weeks. The Drs office told me to purée chili, chicken, turkey get my Protein in, how do you do it? Also I've lost 14 pounds in 2 weeks and now down 29 # since doing the 6 months diet and 2 weeks. Which is good but I'm at a stall haven't moved in 3 days, I thought it came at 3 weeks. Guess I'm just frustrated over the pureed foods.
  23. Allik07 - yep, that stuff tastes like dirt. Ensure and Boost has too many carbs and my doctor says to stay away from them. I use unjury Classic chocolate. I put 1 scoop powder in my blender, 1 cup of unsweetened Almond Breeze vanilla Flavored milk, a few ice chips and then I add 1/4 tsp of vanilla extract or 1/4 tsp of coconut extract and whip it up. Tastes like a milk shake - cold and creamy. The one with coconut takes like an Almond Joy. A couple of times I have added 1 tsp of Peanut Butter (tastes like a Reeses cup). I have not tried the vanilla Unjury yet but it should be OK. I cannot stand that stuff mixed with Water so the Almond Breeze was a big help. (40 cal and almost no carbs). I use these about once a week and just after a fill for a couple of days. Find a good powder (like Unjury) and then play with extracts and if your doctor allows it - fruit (mine does not). I was banded 10 months ago - down 95 pounds. Good luck and hope this helps you out. I know how hard it is to find one you can handle. I spent a fortune trying to find one that I didn't gag on. 24. Well I'm feeling better everyday I stopped all pain mess 3 days out.... I do feel I over did food yesterday it was uncomfortable made me worry I would mess up my new tummy.... 25. I'm scheduled for my psych eval (including the mmpi2) in a couple of weeks and I'm super nervous about it. I've read in the forums that you can be denied clearance if you show signs of depression and/or anxiety. But who gets to the stage in their life when they're seeking surgery for weight loss without having some depression/anxiety issues?
