  1. Anyone test high for ALT in their blood test? My surgeon’s office is close to submitting to my insurance for a gastric bypass but they have some concern about my ALT blood test. It is high but it is down from a month ago. They are sending me for an ultrasound of my liver to check. Has this happened to anyone else?

    High heart rate

This article explains dumping syndrome: Dumping syndrome The symptoms of early dumping syndrome are: * Feeling bloated or too full after eating * Nausea * Vomiting * Abdominal cramps * Diarrhea * Flushing * Dizziness, lightheadedness * Rapid heart rate __________________________________________ Since you have a blood glucose meter, when you begin to feel very light headed and have a high heart rate, you might take a blood sugar reading. If it is very low say in the 30's or 40's then you may have a handle on the cause. ___________________________________________ Something you said causes me concern. You said, "🙄 but I’ve puked more this past three months than my whole life" I spun this around last night and perhaps this is the symptom that should be focused on. If you have constant nausea since surgery, there is a problem. It shouldn't be. It is abnormal. According to the Internet: Nausea and vomiting are the most common complaints after bariatric surgery, and they are typically associated with inappropriate diet and noncompliance with a gastroplasty diet (ie, eat undisturbed, chew meticulously, never drink with meals, and wait 2 hours before drinking after solid food is consumed). If these symptoms are associated with epigastric pain, significant dehydration, or not explained by dietary indiscretions, an alternative diagnosis must be explored. One of the most common complications causing nausea and vomiting in gastric bypass patients is anastomotic ulcers, with and without stomal stenosis. Ulceration or stenosis at the gastrojejunostomy of the gastric bypass has a reported incidence of 3% to 20%. Although no unifying explanation for the etiology of anastomotic ulcers exists, most experts agree that the pathogenesis is likely multifactorial. These ulcers are thought to be due to a combination of preserved acid secretion in the pouch, tension from the Roux limb, ischemia from the operation, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) use, and perhaps Helicobacter pylori infection. Evidence suggests that little acid is secreted in the gastric bypass pouch; however, staple line dehiscence may lead to excessive acid bathing of the anastomosis. Treatment for both marginal ulcers and stomal ulcers should include avoidance of NSAIDs, antisecretory therapy with proton-pump inhibitors, and/or sucralfate. In addition, H pylori infection should be identified and treated, if present. So if ulcers are the problem, then: * Make sure you are off all NSAIDs. NSAID's are in many produces like aspirin, Excedrin and a hundred other over the counter meds. * Use a proton pump inhibitor. One common form is Omeprazole (or over the counter Prilosec). My surgeon had me take this for the first year after surgery, just to allow my stomach to heal properly. There are a variety of proton pump inhibitors, some individuals on this website found some types were more effective than others. * Have yourself tested for Helicobacter pylori infection. This is a fairly common infection. Over half the people in the world have it. It is also hard to kill. Sometimes you have to go through several regiments of antibiotics to kill it. Your primary care physician should be able to give you this test. I think I read somewhere that the urea breath test is more accurate than the blood or stool test. Here is a link: What Is H. pylori?

Bariatric surgery was a big mistake

I have had my bypass 1yr & lost 115lbs & at goal weight. I eat everything just small amounts cause small stomach. I ate a hot dog & roll w/ onions last night with fresh cherries. Waiting a 1/2 hr to drink isn’t end of world. I have never been happier! So glad I had it done. July 5th is 1yr...

    July 2019

Beginning day 6 of my pre op Liquid meals, no longer suffering from hunger pains. Never really paid attention to how many food commercials there are! Have to keep switching channels to avoid them! Lol Surgery is July 12th for gastric bypass, so it’s getting close. Reading all the post and encouragement and information is really helpful. Thank you all! Any Delaware folks here? Well enjoy your 4th festivities!!
  6. Wow!! So impressed by your ability to staying so strong about what others would consider incredible odds!!! More power to you!! I bet you will be so much more successful this time around given your experience and positivity! I don't have GERD, I get heartburns occasionally depending on the type of food I eat. I'm borderline diabetic and my surgeon recommends the Sleeve so I'm going with it for now but making sure I do all my research for what's best for me. I endured 7 yrs of the lapband until I couldn't anymore. I'm hoping like you to use that experience to propel me to success with this surgery🤞🤞. I'm desperately doing as much head work I can do prior to surgery as this is most likely my worst issue. I've just seen so many revision stories (Sleeve to RNY) that it makes one pause and have second thoughts. But I've also seen such phenomenal sleeve success stories, I'm hoping to be one. I'll be watching out and cheering your journey and pray we August Peeps join the successes soon🤲🤲🤲[emoji120] Cheers[emoji7] Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app
  7. Thank you so much for the well wishes!!! Why are you getting a revision if you don't mind me asking?? What did you think of the sleeve!! Such a hard choice truly! I go back and forth[emoji25] Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app
    • So... I have a haital hernia and they're suspecting some stomach ulcers (explains the anemia/getting endoscopy soon to confirm)
      • According to my doctor, hernia can re-develop after 2-3 years if it is repaired but nothing is done to my sleeve.
    • I have been going to Support Group and the CBT sessions and both have been very helpful.
      • Had the chance to share my story and that has been relieving and empowering...
      • According to the program leader (for more than 20 years), only 5% of WLS patients stay at goal 10 years after surgery.
        • One study showed the most contributing factor is a patient's support network.
        • Met a lady who is 12 years out and 7 lbs. away from her goal — She only missed 4 support group meetings in the 12 years!
    • I really want to prove to myself before revision that I can change.
      • The surgery is just the building blocks, I have to do the hard work to build the beautiful house/temple...
        • On prenatal vitamins, protein shakes instead of meals and clean eating
          • No grazing, set meal schedule, no distractions (eating mindfully)
        • Trying to get into the Bio Oil regimen (thank you for the recommendation) so I can stay consistent after revision
    • Iron infusions scheduled weekly for 8 weeks (7/11/19 - 8/29/19) so will probably be attending half those sessions after surgery?
      • Depends on where my iron is when I get labs and surgery date that will be set on August 1st

Any August 2019 people out there?

HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY! 🎂 20K steps? That's incredible! 😯 8/16 will be here before you know it... My [revision] surgery date is to be determined August 1st, so I am anxious and excited too. Our stats are very similar, by the way. I was 193 lbs. the day I got sleeved. I wish you all the best! Please continue to keep us posted on your progress.

    Adhesions and RnY?

I had an adhesion from an OLD c section and an old hysterectomy. I got my bypass and the next day ended up in emergency surgery from a bowel blockage due to said adhesions! I had 3 blood transfusions and was in ICU for an entire week. With ANY abdominal surgery there is always a risk if adhesions. The blockage was not due to my bypass unfortunately it happened a day later.
  10. Hi!! I had my surgery last Wednesday (26th)!! It actually wasn’t bad being outpatient ! The gas pains are the only pain I have. I hope the weight comes off. I’ve heard it’s harder with revisions.

    High heart rate

There are two types of dumping, early and late. I had plenty of experience with early dumping. Anytime I ate a little bit too much, it would lead to early dumping. Because of this I learned to detect the signals my body gave me to tell me that I was at the edge, such as hiccups, sneezes etc. and then I would just abruptly stop eating not one more bite. But I never experienced high blood pressure or fainting symptoms. There is another type of dumping syndrome called late dumping or reactive hypoglycemia. The following link explains the two types. I met someone with this late dumping condition at a bariatric surgery support group meeting. He was not diabetic prior to surgery but after surgery, he experienced severe reactive hypoglycemia. He even fainted a couple times before he figured out this was a problem. Once he knew the problem, he knew what he had to do whenever he felt dizzy afterwards and found he could easily manage and live with that condition. Dumping Syndrome After Gastric Bypass Surgery But when I looked at your meal, I did not see anything to trigger this reaction. If you had a blood sugar monitor, it might be interesting to know what your blood sugar levels were during your dizzy episodes.

    Adhesions and RnY?

I had 3 c- sections 18, 20, and 25 years ago. I also had a tubal ligation back then too. Are these the types of abdominal surgeries that you're referring to? My bypass is scheduled for tomorrow July 3. Should I be concerned about him not being able to do my bypass? Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app
  13. Hey Girl!! I had my revision on wednesday of last week (June 26)! It went great!!! I actually enjoyed being able to recover at home and not have nurses poking me every hour through the night. I went back in to his office the following morning so they could change dressings AND get an IV for hydration!! The gas has been painful but very manageable. My biggest piece of advice is GASX every few hours and WALK WALK WALK! You will do great! Good luck!!! Just remember: these are highly skilled surgeons who do this surgery everyday -both inpatient and out!
  14. Hi [emoji112] I was wondering the same thing as I am scheduled for revision to bypass on 7/11 due to gerd and a hiatal hernia resulting ftom the sleeve. I am also outpatient with Dr. Michael Williams Sent from my SM-G965U using BariatricPal mobile app

    High heart rate

Yeah on mine, James M. it said " vomiting of a prolonged period" well I called my Bariatric Clinic in such a case, was told by one of their Nurse Practioners I was delusional, I knew dang well there was NOTHING WRONG with me and to stop bothering them. Oh I have not called them again, I will be 10 months on Friday next and I don't believe I should still have frequent episodes of emesis My local community hospital, knicknamed "the BandAid station" is even worse, sad to say. They are not sure WTF to do with me, maybe they hope for constipation, fever, headaches and other "easy peasy "things, something within their competences. But a bypass patient, like a purple- spotted giraffe, interesting to look at, but what DO YOU. REALLY DO WITH one?👈👩👉

    High heart rate

You may want to run this by your surgeon's office. Generally when we leave the hospital we are given discharge directions. One of the items on the sheets is called "When to Call Your Physician". On mine item number 6 reads: "Chest pain, rapid heartbeat and/or dizziness." ------------------------------------------------------------------ Since your physician discussed leak, I did an internet search and found the following: Anastomotic Leak After Gastric Bypass Surgery Symptoms can occur a bit differently in each person. They can include: * Fast heart rate * Fever * Chills * Stomach pain * Chest pain * Shortness of breath (rapid breathing or difficulty breathing) * Fluid leaking from an incision site * Nausea and vomiting * Pain in the left shoulder area * Low blood pressure * Less urine * General feeling of discomfort (malaise) The symptoms of anastomotic leaking after gastric bypass surgery may look like other health conditions. See your healthcare provider for a diagnosis.
  19. BS? as in B*llSh*t? ...so you are getting your revision. This will address your GERD, so that's a good thing ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️ Other than the green-tea-ban-heartbreak, you ok?

I hear you on the back pain! I've already got arthritis in my spine and a pinched nerve in the neck. My knees were starting to hurt too so that was when I decided I had to get serious and scheduled the gastric bypass. Knees are all better, my the pain in my back and neck are ever present. I have wanted a breast reduction for a long time but am now waiting to get to my goal weight before I go to a surgeon for an opinion. I must say I do not like the way the girls feel---gravity is getting meaner and meaner.... I now this is TMI, but I literally feel them pulling my shoulders down more than ever, leaving me with horrific posture and more neck pain. What is the epidural all about? I have not heard of that for back pain before.

    Post-OP Walking

I'm having my gastric bypass on Wednesday July 3. I have been working really hard to lose almost 40 lbs in the past 6 months, so I don't want to lose my exercise momentum. Currently, I bike and walk about 5 miles a day. I know biking is out of the question for a few weeks, but walking will be my main source of exercise. How much were you able to walk in the days and weeks after surgery? Thanks! Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app
