Need a quick answer.
GAWildKat replied to GAWildKat's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well I noticed one major thing, my feet shrank down to a size 9! I've been a size 10 shoe for 11yrs, I was a woman's 9 since I was 10yrs old. I was able to grab a new pair of shoes in my new/old size today. For me this is huge. I haven't needed my lasix since the last week of January. Here's hoping my congestive heart failure is in remission. -
How often do you weigh yourself?
rcruz replied to BillOh's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I guess it's not the top of my list, I have found that if i dont' worry about this life with the band and I think that is why 1.) I am a slow loser, and 2.) I am not stressed out and the weight is coming off steadily. I thought I was jinx'ing myself because just when I thought this was going to be the first month in 10 months I didn't lose, lord and behold get onthe scales and met my 8lbs this month! Try to do it just once a week and see if that helps with the stress and the weight loss you would be surprised.... -
How bad is post-op pain?
drivera replied to missthaaaang's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery was Lapband on 8/31/10. First know that everyone is different on how they feel. For me, the first few hours after surgery were very painful. I HAD TO HAVE DRUGS! By the evening, I still had pain, but it was tolerable. The next day, I felt 70% better. I drove to the store just fine. Within a week I felt pretty good. You cannot lift more than ten pounds!!! You do need to rest and heal. -
I'm in Murfreesboro, TN. I am being banded on November 19--TOMORROW!! My surgery is at Baptist Hospital with Dr. Morton.

joannrmn, I am so sorry you are having such a rough time! I'm only 10 days post op so I can't say it will get better from experience, but I truly believe it will get better for you. Eventually you will definitely be able to eat more normally. I really think you should find a therapist to talk with. I think talking to someone in person will be a huge help for you! Reach out to the place where you had surgery. Ask to meet with the psychologist. Above all, hang in there!

It's Time. Did you "indulge" because you were sort of burnt out and needed a break from the program? The reason why I ask is because we had surgery about the same time and I was finding myself getting sort of burnt out. Plus I felt it would be way too much to expect my dear hubby to not only have to care of me for 10 days but also to weigh/measure my food. I am just so grateful that he was more than willing to do everything on top of taking excellent care of me. I guess I justed needed a break and now I'm ready to get back on the program. I'm sure we will both succeed.

Struggling with my self image.
HopeandAgony replied to HopeandAgony's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am reading thru these comments again this morning as I lay in bed. I'm already feeling down about myself and I just opened my eyes. So, I came back for the reminders. I made the mental connection that my OCD might be amplifying the fact that I can't let this thought go and knowing that will ultimately help me move forward. Today I plan to focus on the fact that my old x-large pj's are way too big and falling off me this morning. When the rain passes I will go for a 3 mile walk/jog and along the way I won't feel like I might literally expire. And then I will come home and put on my new size 10 swimsuit and enjoy my backyard pool. I have come a long way, and I just need to keep telling myself that. Thank you all for taking the time to support me. Sent from my SM-G930P using the BariatricPal App -
Benefits of Sleeve Gastrectomy Wane at 5 Years
feedyoureye replied to feedyoureye's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My doc asked me if I would be happy with a 50 pound loss... I said yes, but wanted to try for more. after 4 1/2 years, I'm at a about 74% loss.... I'm feeling a little bit more like a fat person than a normal one now... but still so happy I did it. I have made many lifestyle changes that have stuck, but a few have slipped a little.... I really don't want to get to that "50 pounds" he talked about... hope I can maintain here at a 70 pound loss..... @@feedyoureye Thanks for the post. I think the numbers are fairly consistent with what I was told to expect, and it makes sense that comorbidities would also return if people gain weight. I was one with a lot of weight to lose, and my surgeon told me the bypass would probably be better, but I was a candidate for either. I often think I could have lost that last 10 pounds if I'd had bypass, but I'm still not sorry I made this choice (sleeve). I think the outcome would be the same in the long term for me. I am currently struggling a lot to not gain. It's getting harder and harder, and I really wasn't prepared for this. Either way, I lost over 90% of my excess weight, and at nearly three years out, I find it's 90% me, and 10% sleeve. When I went into this, I knew long term I might settle at a 60% reduction from where I started. Now that I've lost so much and gotten to a normal size, the idea of that much regain is devastating to me. I'm going to do my best to not become a statistic! -
dog owners-easy walk harness
maharet111 replied to ********'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I started walking her two weeks after surgery. Funny enough she was recovering from TPLO surgery at the same time so we were walking about the same pace lol. We walked every day two to three times a day for 10 minutes each. Once I got cleared for harder exercise I still walk her but I don't count it as my calorie burn. Worst part is she now needs TPLO on the other knee I three months out currently. -
Bungle69- Hakuna Matata- No Worries, you'll do great! I just had my band placed on 10/4. They had to give me double the anasthesia (apparantly, I was pretty fociued on the picture of my wife and kiddos in front of me!). Even with the extra amount, I thought recovery was no problem. I was pretty sore for the first 2 days, but it was very manageable. I took every suggestion that they gave me for quick recovery from anasthesia: Get up and move (even if it's slow!), take lots of deep, slow breaths (this expands you lungs and protects you from pnuemonia), and hold a pillow to your stomach and try to push out little coughs (this also helps get the anasthesia out and the lungs working best). The coughing was tough....but getting out of bed as much as I could without overdoing it felt very good. The Morphine in the hospital and the Percocet out of the hospital made for a big help with pain, too. I really feel great now...and it's only been 5 days! And to make it all worthwhile...I'm already down another 6 pounds. It's going to be just fine. Do you have somebody at the hospital with you...some "cheerleaders" and people who'll pray for you? That helps! Best of luck to you. Grace and peace to you today.

Banded 11/18/10 and feeling regretful
hokiemama replied to LookatmeNow34's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded 11/15/10 and I am finally feeling "almost" normal. You will get there. I was also surprised at how horrible I felt. I actually thought I would be able to go shopping by the end of the first week. NOT! It was much worse than I thought, but thankfully, each day gets a little better. I hate to exercise, but my surgeon said to take a minimum of 10 minute walks 4 times per day. It sucked to get out and do that while holding my side, but it actually made me feel better each time. It helped with gas and soreness in my back from sitting too long. I sipped broth, Protein shakes, and liquid Jello. Fat Free cream of chicken Soup (strained) seemed yummy after all those thin liquids. As for soft/mushy which is what I am on now, I live off canned tuna and chicken. I put the tuna in the food chopper with pickle juice and f.f. mayo. Chicken add some fat free gravy and blend with food chopper. They are both easy for me to get down and a good source of protein. Hang in there! It will get much better and it will be worth it!! There's so much proof of that on here. -
Volume and calories consumed daily
NCGIRL88 replied to NYCNomad's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am just past 5 months post op. I find if I eat my protein first that I am full and I do feel the sleeve limit. If you choose to eat carbs first you will be able to eat more. I have to remind myself to be mindful eating. I take this commitment with surgery as a tool and I have to utilize the tool. For me, I do not buy the carbs so they are not in my home. I go to protein first and tell myself if I want a bite or two of something after than it's a very small amount. I rarely get to eat the other stuff because I FOCUS on protein and good carbs/vegetables and fruit first. I have zero carbonation and I still crave it. I simply won't allow myself to go there. Drink your water and this helps to keep you full. As my treat every day I have Bai water as a reward (coconut /pineapple) that is 10 calories for the entire bottle. It works for me. -
My cardiologist looked at me and said, "You did not pass the test". Honestly, I thought he was kidding and then it hit me they don't joke about things like that! Now, I had been at my PCP on Monday. These results had been faxed to him last week and he never mentioned it. He spent maybe 10 minutes with me, most of which was composing the letter of clearance on his laptop. WTF are these guys good for anyway????? So, now I will be scheduled for an angiogram early next week. There is a 10% chance he will find nothing. It may be taken care of with a stent. If things are really bad, there will be open heart surgery. So, no WLS for me for the time being. Wonder how long my insurance authorization is for. Major, major bummer.....

My weight has been stable but my size isn't. I guess due to exercise / weight training. My size 4 pants are loose. I hesitate to say I'm a size 2. I read folks in maintenance will level off and regain 10-15 pounds. How true that is?? I don't know but if it is, when will it?? I'm investing heavily in a new wardrobe and really would hate to end up with a closet full of "One day I'll get back to that size" clothes again

Feel like a failure already...
surfergirl4011 replied to abercchic's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Fellow Bandsters, Finding this threat today has been a life-saver. Thanks to everyone for their candid, honest thoughts and struggles. I concur with everyone here, and am having the same experience. I was banded on 9/2/9. I'd lost 10 pounds pre-op (on liquids) and thought I had found the Holy Grail. But in the five weeks since surgery, and since moving to regular foods, I have actually gained a couple pounds! I've been working out a lot and trying to journal, but like many have said here, I still struggle with caving to crap food and old (bad) habits like emotional eating. It's hard because I feel like this is just another "diet" that hasn't work .... a "diet" that cost me $16,500 (I paid cash for mine since I didn't qualify through insurance). All of this was leading me to feel like a failure until I came across this thread. Everyone's thoughts have made me realize two things: (1) it is early in the game, and my band isn't really fully functional until it is filled (I've only had one fill so far, 4cc); and (2) the band isn't going to magically do this "for" me, it is going to do this "with" me, which means I need to cut out junk that isn't healthy for me - with our without the band - and keep up the exercise, planning meals, etc. A great big THANK YOU to abercchick for starting this thread. It set me back on course today when I felt like giving up. Keep up the good work everyone! surfergirl 4011 carlsbad, ca starting weight: 229 pre-op weight: 219 current weight: 221 NOT GIVING UP ..... ever!!! -

My big day is tomorrow! Whoo hoo!! I want to say a huge THANK YOU to all of you for the vast amounts of information, encouragement, and support! If I did not have all of you in my world, I think I would be very, very nervous tonight. I actually feel ok - just a little nervous, but mostly excited to get this phase started. Thank you for sharing your experiences, knowledge, and vulnerabilities. It is amazing to have this vast group of support! It's been a 10-month journey through the classes, medical tests, six-month supervised diet, and long awaited approval. I can hardly believe that the big day is here! Lots of love to all of you! My gratitude is immense! Prayers, good thoughts, and support are welcome! Surgery is at 10am tomorrow!

Alcohol and Weightloss
ProudGrammy replied to Cape Crooner's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
@@Cape Crooner hey bud when i read you first sentence - i thought to myself, cool you are tracking, eating ,drinking (water LOL) protein - exercising you are doing great many people don't weigh everyday (I do) if you don't weigh weigh during the week, you don't know if you have stalled (an OFFICIAL stall refers to not loosing weight for at least three weeks) NOT if you haven't lost in 3 days or so LOL after NOT weighing yourself all week you step on the scale it might show a weight loss it's time to show that loss! happened to coincide with after you had drank a "little" alcohol personally i don't think the loss had anything to do with a few drinks as far as burning 3,000 calories a day for fear of death (or worse!!) i wouldn't touch that statement with a 10 ft pole LOL truth is, i don't know the right answer I don't think any OP were cruel about the tracker situation they gave their opinion an "opinion" is just that, an opinion no one can be right or wrong about an opinion like others, i think this thread has gotten out of hand The Horse Died!!!! enough said? that's great that you have lost 82 lbs sooooo close to GOAL keep up the good work congrats on weight loss kathy -
I've had so many fills at this point I have lost count. Seriously. I do know that at this point I have 8cc in a 10 cc band! I still do not have great restriction. It does make it harder to eat some things but I still don't get that "full" feeling. Ever. I've been feeling queasy the last few days and unable to eat much of anything. Now I'm worried my band has slipped. I don't know if I'm just sick or what.
-
After getting as much as I did this last time I decided to calculate how many more of the regular fills I would have needed and I probably would have gotten to 10 before I felt this "right". As long as I wait until lunchtime or so, I can take my meds whole. I just can't take the entire handful at once like I used to, but that's because I can't chug whatever I'm washing them down with! I hope your fill works great for you! You are definitely right that you don't want to overdo and then be on the road. Just ask Claudine
-
My doctor must be conservative because I only had a 3 cc fill today (first one) and my band holds up to 10 ccs. I can't imagine that many doctors would think over-filling is a good thing. The down side to lap band is that it involves a fair amount of tinkering over time.

Well I think you will be in a size 12. Personally, I have 2 closets. One for clothes I can wear now and clothes I have not worn in years....I have like 12 pairs of jeans from 24 to 16. Yes when I met my husband 10 years ago, I wore a size 16. Now I am a size 26/28. I have this one dress it is a size 20. It still has tags on it. Looking forward to wearing it. Since it has never been worn. I want to wear my jeans again. So apple get in them dresses I am rooting for you. Sugery date: 5/4/2011 P.S. It really home about the surgery today when I got the letter from the insurance company regarding the approval. I realize my dream for the last few years is actually going to come true. -
When did your bandages/tape come off?
JonMon posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am on day 10 post-op. My incisions are still covered. They are starting to peel a bit and look funky and I am worried about infection. When did you remove your tape from your incision? Thanks for your help.
