  1. I had bypass on 8/16. Was drinking freely in hospital. Apparently the nurse I had normally didn't work that floor. Found it from morning nurse I was only supposed to be doing Oz at a time. Oops. I'd rather be over hydrated than to need an iv

    Drinking too fast?

Clear liquids will mostly go straight through the sleeve and into the duodenum. The pyloric valve immediately lets most thin liquids through pretty quickly. I'm 3 weeks post-op and can drink probably 6-8 oz of clear liquids most of the time pretty quickly, then repeat ~10 minutes later. Thicker protein shakes or soups though - only 2-3 oz at most then must wait about 30 minutes. With the bypass liquids should just flow through the anastomosis.

    Drinking too fast?

If I remember correctly, you're a revision@elcee ? We don't tend to get the same level of restriction as virgin surgeries. I've never had a problem with fluids, can chugalug with the best of them. Sent from my SM-G930F using BariatricPal mobile app
  4. Had my RNY gastric bypass 2 days ago. I’m home and other sore I’m doing pretty good. Hang in there everyone your time is coming and it will be worth the wait in the end. Best of luck to everyone!
  5. I just spoke with a friend who has a friend going through the Kaiser Options classes (Pre-op requirement in So. Cal). All classes have been postponed and her friend was informed that her surgeries (elective) have been postponed until further notice. I'm praying for those of you who are on the journey and awaiting your surgery. Don't forget the reason why you are on this journey and remember why you are doing this. When you finally cross the finish line, you are going to appreciate your journey even more. We are going to stay united on our journeys rather it be pre or post-op, this is a real test for each of us. Even those of us who are recently post-op, we have to assure that we stay healthy and keep our immune systems healthy. I had a post-op appt via telephone today, I have to hope that I'm doing the right thing because without direct contact with your medical team it's not clear. Hopefully we all stay complication free, hydrated and mentally healthy. There are also those who need a revision due to complications from their first procedure, the list can keep growing. This is a domino effect that we are in together. Sending positive vibes, prayers and blessings to each of you. Practice patience and keep your peace as your guides as we navigate through this.
  6. I noticed your says mini-bypass. My surgeon mentioned the same thing for me if my EGD shows I can't do a sleeve due to a hernia. Can you tell me how a "mini" differs from "standard bypass? Thanks!

    Band eroded needhelp!!!!

With erosion there is no choice, you have to remove the band. The issue you want to consider here is if you want to revise to something else and if so, what. The only other "restrictive only" procedure is a sleeve and quite frankly, it's a lot safer than bands long term. It is far easier for a weight loss journey as well, I know... I've had them both. ;o) Something you will want to discuss with your doctor is if you do want to revise to something else (sleeve, bypass, DS) can it be done at the same time. The answer is likely to be no. Please do not get another band, if you erode once you are very likely to do so again. The new bands not eroding or having less chance for erosion is a sales pitch only, not proven. Consider this, unless someone is wayyyy too tight for wayyyy too long, they don't even know what causes erosion. If they do not know what causes erosion how can they prevent it? The claims about the new bands are bogus. Slips are increasing just as they were with the old bands and erosion is the same. They used to think that smoking caused erosion but then they figured out non smokers were eroding at the same rates as smokers. Then they thought it was NSAIDs. That turned out to be untrue. Then they blamed caffeine. Considering erosion happens from the outside of the stomach I'm not clear on why they ever considered NSAIDs and caffeine. One line of thinking is the stuff they use to sterilize surgical instruments. Some believe the residue is caustic and when they use that instrument on the next person it burns the tissue on the stomach a bit and that is the start of erosion.
  8. Hello all and blessings to you on your weight loss successes. Just one question about the SIPS. Forgive me for being a dummy, but I was just under the assumption that if they save the pylorus valve, then all the plumbing is normal and there is no malabsorption, basically. Also, if it is a cure for Acid Reflux as well as Diabetes among the other common diseases just like the gastric bypass is. Thank you so much for your kindness. Stephen

Confused but want to lose weight!

I was like that too. I didn't lose or gain for months, then I got tighter and started losing. I liked losing the weight. But the constant of the food coming back up caused my band to slip. You don't want that to happen. Tell your Dr. It's better to have an unfill now, and let your stomach heal, than to have to have revision. Call your Doctor.
  11. I am six weeks out of revision surgery (January 29th) and down 55 pounds at this point (way more weight than I ever lost with lap band). I saw my surgeon for a one month follow up last week and am amazed at the amount of damage that was done to my stomach by the band. He told me that the band had adhered to my stomach and was eroding through. He said there were small holes throughout my stomach where the band had attached itself. He was able to fix everything in one surgery (thank god...no way I could have done two surgeries) and I have been on the mend for a month and a half. What is amazing is that I had no symptoms of anything that could be wrong. No fever, reflux, etc. The only time I suspected anything is when I would go for fills and the band would be unfilled and I could actually feel it pulling my stomach (worst feeling ever).
  12. I had my sleeve done in 2011 but had serious complications and had to have a bypass in 2012. I am constantly nauseated. Eating or even thinking about eating makes me nauseated. I've had a pregnancy test negative. I've lost about112 pounds in these last two years almost. If I do eat my stomach starts hurting horrible Any suggestions? Ideas?
  13. Thank you all for the get well wishes. I have had nausea since my sleeve June 10th and I'm dehydrated with low blood pressure. My surgeon said that with the sleeve you still have a biliary duct and he believes that is what's causing the nausea and dehydration. I'm so scared for the gastric by pass but he said when he makes the pouch the nausea will instantly go away. I don't have much of a life right now and he said If I hold off another couple of weeks and maybe the nausea will go away. But it's not a guarantee. From all of my research on the sleeve I had never heard of sleeve revision to gastric by pass. My husband was here with me all day at the hospital I couldn't help but cry when he left . I feel horrible, scared and sadden by all that is happening to me. I have to try to stay positive. I just find it hard to do so. So help me God.

    3 Or 6??

I would like to know if everyone follows the 3 meals or 6 small ones/daily. I've been told no more than 3 but my friend (who had bypass) was told 6....I'm in a majorly frustrating plateau and really dont want to count cals...
  16. I've belonged to both the LapBand and Sleeve websites for a little bit now. I've read here so many people who have had revisions to the sleeve from the LapBand. Yesterday, I completed the last of my requirements to get weight loss surgery. Today I spoke with my surgeon and he agrees that getting the vertical sleeve is probably the best option for me. He also gave me my surgery date: MARCH 28!!! I'm so very excited. I cannot believe this part of my journey is almost over. I had a lot of prerequisites to complete before I was able to get this surgery. I was scared I would be diagnosed with sleep apnea which would have made me push my surgery back for at least 6 months. But I passed the sleep study and all of the other hurdles my insurance company had for me. It's been 3 months since I began this process. I can't wait to be posting my weight loss on this site with the rest of you!!!! Cynthia
  17. Just take it one day at a time sweetie. It's gonna get better. You will be fine if they revise your sleeve to bypass. And you may be ok after some time with your sleeve. You just have to decide what's best for you. I know it's hard to make any kind of decision when your so sick. When hubby comes back make him curl up with you. That always makes me feel better. You will be in my thoughts and prayers!!!!

    5weeks out and discouraged.

four and a half weeks out from revision, I don't want to eat anything, I mean nothing sounds good. But I have made sure from the very beginning to drink drink drink, I have stayed hydrated thank goodness, I get all my protein in, through protein shakes or adding protein to whatever I do manage to eat. Also I have been faithful about my supplements (vitamins) I don't want my already thin hair to fall out, and I don't want to suffer the consequences of not having the vitamins I need. I figure food and eating will come eventually but I am diligent about the other three. liquids, vitamins and protein. It is not easy but it is something I practiced several months before surgery cause I knew it would be hard, but I know that it is so important. Somehow I have been able to drill that through my thick skull and do it. Now exercise, nah haven't done that yet.

    Actual surgical procedure question

I watched a video of a laparoscopic gastric bypass too and you are right, not for the faint of heart! Fortunately, I didn't watch it until after my surgery! My lowest incision is also right above the belly button so no need to tape anything up. I was completely out of it before they did anything to me in the OR, so I wasn't aware of any lifting of my gown, draping or anything that would have embarrassed me.

    Weight Gain After Surgery?

Confused. With the revision, is it basically a surgery to do the RnY all over again a 2nd time?
  22. Hi, I had my surgery 11/27/12 and I was 244 the day of surgery. I am now 213 and have been fluctuating between 216 & 213. I feel as tho I am doing something wrong. I log all I intent in myfitnesspal and barely make 700 cals. My NUT appt is next thus and I have only lost 4lb since the 27th and I am afraid. Is it normal? I am a .band to bypass revision.

  24. I went through band to sleeve revision on Tuesday. Now I have this heavy feeling dead center of my chest. It's not painful, doesn't interfere with breathing...just annoying. Have any of you experienced this?
  25. Yep, I'm the same way. One of the few people I told about this surgery is my hair stylist, because I wanted to prepare her for this and her response? "You don't have any hair to lose!" However, what shampoo you use CAN help, at least a little, because the more expensive shampoos actually have Protein in them. For those curious about why we lose our hair, etc., here is a helpful article on the subject of hair loss after WLS that explains exactly why it happens and what you can do to lessen it (you can't stop it): http://gastricbypasstruth.com/life-after-gastric-bypass/hair-loss-after-gastric-bypass-tips-for-losing-less-and-regrowing-more-faster/ Also, Dr Alvarez has a Q&A video about hair loss:
