Surgery date postponed due to my PCP . Heartbroken
lindajlue replied to lindajlue's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I saw him for my physical last week and he said when I get the o.k. from the neurosurgeon and now a hemotologist because I don't have a spleen and it causes my white count to be high that he will write my letter. The hemotologist said he didn't need to see me for that he will just send my surgeon for clearance. My neurosurgeon appt is on 9/29 so I hope I can get my surgery next month. My PCP tried to talk me out of it when I was there .I know what you mean about big breasts I passed a DD a long time ago. I may have to roll them up after surgery. loll I am glad your revision went well and you are on the road to recovery. -
Stall/concerns post sleeve to bypass revision
SeattleLady replied to lex2287's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I need revision too. While reviewing the research it appears the average weight loss after revision is around "30 to 60" pounds in a recent study. However, I think there is hope. Beyond the numbers really is our food choices. You get to decide how much weight you will lose. For me, it's choices or excuses. Sent from my SM-G996U1 using BariatricPal mobile app -
Surgery date postponed due to my PCP . Heartbroken
I-am-Amy replied to lindajlue's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Admittedly, I haven’t read through the whole post but got angry and hit reply. I also had a fusion. A 4 level cervical fusion plus cervical dystonia that has now advanced to the front of my neck and chin. Both my PCP and movement disorder neurologists were more than happily to sign off. They both said weight loss (specifically breasts not being so heavy & drawing my shoulders downward) could possibly help within symptom control. These puppies weigh me woman down! LOL ugh. I just had my revision sleeve to bypass literally just 5 DAYS ago and it couldn’t have went better. They do use the surgical robot though for these procedures. That’s the coolest thing ever. Also, to me, it sounds like your current PCP is a little lazy on top of it all. Is he an older doc? Like old school I mean? Seems Ike he’s asking you to do HIS homework work just so he can copy and paste what parts he would like to send to the insurance company. Tell him you will if he pays YOU for that letter. -

Revision weight-loss RNY
Tufflaw replied to Chelll's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I got the sleeve in Dec 2016 and lost a lot of weight very quickly, about 120 lbs in maybe 6 or 7 months. Then I had some personal and professional setbacks and ended up screwing up the program and over the next few years put almost everything back on. Then last November I had revision to bypass and again the weight loss was pretty quick - not as fast as before but still very acceptable. I am now lower than the lowest weight I was with the sleeve, and have kept it off longer as well. And I continue to lose, so we'll see where the endpoint is. -
Can anyone tell me how your experience was in weight loss went after RNY revision. Like how fast did you lose and how much. I know everyone varies but just wondering if it is somewhat quick or slow? Thanks Sent from my SM-S906U using BariatricPal mobile app

Stall/concerns post sleeve to bypass revision
catwoman7 replied to lex2287's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
14 lbs in two weeks is excellent. I lost 16 lbs the whole first month! (not a revision - I have a virgin bypass). people tend to lose slower after revisions than they do a virgin surgery - but again, 14 lbs is quite a lot. I wouldn't throw in the towel yet... -

I have no experience with revision, but a lot of people on here do. All I can say is be kind to yourself and let yourself heal! You aren’t even a month out yet. Look for NSV’s, stick to your plan and what has worked for you so far. I’m sure others with more experience will be able to offer you some practical advice. Hang in there… you can do this. -
Stall/concerns post sleeve to bypass revision

You're welcome! 🤗 I got my band in 2013, and within a year or so I hit my lowest weight and I got stuck about ten pounds above that number. For years I was stuck. I gained about another ten back after GERD, and I thought that I wouldn't be able to lose anymore weight either. But it's coming off. And as far as not feeling restriction... I feel/felt the same way, but this week I started eating grilled chicken again for the first time since before the revision, and now I feel soooo much restriction. My surgeon told me that I have some nerve damage from the band and that's why I wasn't feeling restriction. But I can definitely feel it now as I'm able to eat denser proteins. Previously I was still eating a lot of chicken that I made in the crockpot, so it was a softer consistency. I think you will notice more restriction once you're fully healed. You're early out still. Give it some time and just follow your surgeons eating plan and track your protein and water. You got this! Best wishes! -
Stall/concerns post sleeve to bypass revision

I had band to bypass revision on July 19, for GERD. There's plenty of people on here who have revised to bypass that lost additional weight and are now at a normal or near normal BMI. So I don't understand why your doctor said that. But I do understand everyones medical situation is unique. But don't give up yet, because you're still early in the game. The first month or so I felt similar to you. Wasn't losing much at all and wondering if I would lose. This was a fear of mine since I made the decision to revise. I'm eight weeks out now and I've lost thirty-five pounds. Not as fast of weight loss as those with a virgin bypass or those with a higher BMI, but I am still losing. So just follow your program and wait until you're fully healed and then you will probably see more pounds coming off. One thing I will add, when the scale wasn't moving in the first month, I was definitely losing inches. Have you noticed your clothes getting bigger? Because that's still a loss. The scale will catch up. -
Sleeve to bypass hopefully

This is why I've said to people who opt for the sleeve and say they never would get a bypass to think twice about it. If you end up with GERD you sort of have no choice except to revise to bypass (if you want a decent quality of life free of GERD) it's just something to think about. If you absolutely are deadset against ever getting a bypass, then think hard about getting a sleeve as well. There's no guarantee that you won't end up with GERD... and revision to bypass. -
Stall/concerns post sleeve to bypass revision
lex2287 posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had sleeve to bypass revision on Aug 29. I have only lost 14 lbs. I had the revision due to severe reflux.. my dr told me he doubted I would lose anymore than I already have at my follow up Monday. It was really discouraging. I have about 80 lbs to lose and hearing I probably wouldn’t lose more with this surgery was a blow. I have been getting my fluids and proteins in with no issues. I don’t feel like I have restriction either. The scale hasn’t budged since I was 1 week post op. My concerns were shrugged off at my drs office and I didn’t know where else to turn. Can someone give me some insight or point me in another direction? I need this additional weight off too :( help. -
Great to read everyone’s updates! I’m doing wonderfully. I am the happiest I have been for years and I feel great in my skin. I don’t know my weight but a few weeks ago I was at 199 (215 pre op) which I am delighted with. I know from my clothes it is still coming off but I am working through a bunch of issues with the scale so I’m not weighing myself. I’m also super lazy and I am sure it would be coming off quicker if I actually worked out once in a while. Note that I eat three times as many carbs as my dietician recommends and I eat significantly more calories than I need to survive. I am content to gauge and eat when I am hungry and as an ED survivor that is a huge win in itself. I’m not in a hurry. I’m cooking almost everything from scratch and it’s delicious. I can eat about 3/4 cup to a cup depending on consistency. No heartburn or any other adverse issues, and I stopped omeprazole two weeks after surgery. I consider myself very fortunate. My main reason for the revision was so I could eat dense foods that would just come right back up with the band. I am so grateful to take a big bite of anything and I feel a wonderful freedom with that. cay

Hi, I just found your post. How have you done since surgery? In response to your concerns I want to say that you will, at least I found that I have forgotten about my before size. I feel much more comfortable with others and not self conscience at all. I haven't had time to work outside or exercise this year because I've been so busy. My anemia has slowed me too. I do think that some are getting the surgery too young. I would be concerned that the new revision to our organs would be a set back and it is much better to lose the lbs by sensible nutrition. I'm interested in how you are doing.

This this this. It has been over a year since my revision and my quality of life has improved so much. I sometimes wonder how many years I have stripped off my life expectancy from the pain and lack of sleep I experienced for years because I tried to rely on PPIs, H2 blockers and more instead of just getting a revision right away. -
Hi @Toesinthewater was this your first surgery or did you get a revision?

**Weight REGAIN**
LookingForward22 replied to Irebrok1992's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Kelsey. Congrats on the weight loss! The regain is worrisome and I’m glad you’re working to address it before it continues to creep up. I’m sorry you had a frustrating experience with your surgeon. It’s my understanding many programs try to get patients back on track with basics before doing revisions to make sure that we are using the tools we will need to be successful after the rescission. I hope that is what he was doing but wish he would have communicated that in a way that was more … helpful. You did well on the shakes, which is encouraging. I’m wondering if you were weighing, measuring and tracking when you went back to food? Following up with a PCP about your malabsorption and other health issues is a good idea. I’m glad you had an appt, but sorry it’s so far out. Have you ever seen an endocrinologist for the metabolic issues? If not I highly recommend it if possible. While I love my pcp - my endocrinologist has a very different approach to those things and it’s been a big help at dialing in the right treatment. This forum is a great place for support and I think you’ll find a lot of it! I’d also suggest looking into to finding a therapist if you are able. Please check back in and let us know how you are doing. -
**Weight REGAIN**

I agree with @Tomo. I think your surgeon may have been thinking the liquid diet would be a good way to do a pouch reset. There's a lot of sites that recommend doing it at least a week, followed by a week for each stage of the "just had surgery" food diet to get your pouch and mind back on track. Given the vitamin deficiencies and possible thyroid issues, I'm not surprised at all that he isn't considering a revision right now. I would follow through with a full reset, definitely see your pcp for more tests, and then once you have the full picture, go from there. I would also track what I'm eating (I use MyFitnessPal) and be mindful of snacking, grazing, portion size, slider foods, etc. -
🙌🏻 awesome! I’m going for my psych eval Wednesday and then I’ll have everything for my revision. Hopefully it don’t take long to get approved because with some weight off and hopefully sleep apnea getting taken care of I will have some sort of life. Right now I am just too tired to do anything.

Sounds like your doctor has faith in you since you originally went from 400 to 170 lbs. That is a huge accomplishment. Despite the weight gain, you are still way ahead in the weightloss game being 135 lbs down. Maybe he suggested the 10 day liquid diet to try to get you back on track. Similar to the post-op diets, kind of like a reset. I know resets can't shrink your stomach but it does reset some people mentally and they can go back to the dedication they had early post-op and continue doing whatever they did to be so successful before. Also, since you have vitamin deficiencies, maybe he feels you having a revision would not be a safe thing right now. I think you seeing your pcp is a good thing to address or exclude any other health problem that may be causing you to gain weight. If you really want a revision and he is unwilling, perhaps get a second opinion.

Hello my name is Kelsey and I’m new to this website/forum. I came on here to seek advice/friends to help me out. I have been struggling so so bad lately. I had weight loss surgery 11.28.2015 and I was 400 pounds when I did. After about a year and a half I had lost a lot of weight, I got down to 170 pounds. I was happy at this weight, healthy, had less back/foot/ankle/knee pain, etc, you knew the drill. Until Covid i kept most of it off. In the past 3 years I have noticed a steady incline in weight again, so much so that I got back up to 270 at one point. i went back to my surgeon, dr Scott in search of maybe a revision. What I got instead was a speech on how sncking is bad etc, things I already knew and he told me to do nothing but shakes for ten days. I did pretty well on my shakes, drinking 4-5 a day and got down to 253. Of course, when I started eating again, I’ve gained weight back and I’m back to 265. I am so unhappy, and stressed out about this and I’m not sure what to do. i did have lbs done, my thyroid is acting up and my b12 is not absorbing correctly, vit D low, etc, im thinking hypothyroidism is the main cause of my weight gain and low energy but my surgeon wants me to see a pcp about starting meds. I don’t have a pcp, so I made an appt (I made this appt one month ago) but I’m having to wait until OCTOBER 25 to see the pcp. I just don’t know what else to do. i do have history of bipolar and depression, which causes me to stress eat. I’m fighting this very hard, but I feel like I would do better if I had friends or online even pals to help me through this. Anyway. That’s me. I need help, obv, so if anyone feels inclined, reach out to me. We can exchange whatever info we need to stay in touch.

September surgery buddies!!
Dogmom68 replied to Slwhurst's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good luck to everyone who has surgery tomorrow!! You all are going to do great! Remember to sip, sip, sip your water! My surgery was two weeks ago and I’m only down 10 lbs so far but it’s a marathon; not a race. I had a revision from VSG to RNY. No acid reflux! Hurray!!!😁🎉 -
Can he convert to rny in same surgery? I know it is a very common to do so. I think you will find the rny is a much more comfortable, more natural feeling of restriction compared to the band. Good luck and really hope you get your revision.
