Does everyone get a boob job after weight loss?
NP_WIP replied to anniedebbie's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm right there with you. One of the things that had me scared was loose skin, but there is a world of things to make you look better out there that I'm not afraid to use. -
You should be proud. I don't understand why you feel like you're a failure. My sleeve was almost a year ago and I've only lost 45 lbs. I'm loosing very slowly but I feel good and healthier.

Many years ago at Slimming World, I learned not to look at the results of others and criticise myself . What I was doing just didn't seem good enough. So I criticised myself and gave up. I have watched people shoot past me on here but the fact that I am still loosing weight, even at a snails pace, brings me joy. Never, ever compare yourself to others. I have also rid my body of Diabetes. It will attain us a longer life, healthier life. It is the biggest present you can give yourself. It seems to me that you have smashed it. Look at what you can do compared to last year. Your body is thanking you

How did you choose your goal weight?
Arabesque replied to kbsleeved's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Not every one reaches their goal weight. The average is a loss of about 65% of the weight you have to lose to be in a healthy range at around the three year mark for sleeve or bypass. This takes in the common 3rd year regain, compliance, lifestyle, etc. of course some exceed this & some don’t reach it. Love it or hate it BMI can be a good guide or starting point. If you’ve a larger frame look to the higher end of your BMI range. A small frame then the lower end of the range. Medications, age, general health, etc. can all influence what a healthy weight is for you as well the weight you feel most comfortable. Then there is your body’s new set point - a gift of the surgery. This is the weight your body is happiest at. It may not be the weight you wanted but it will be a weight that will be easier to maintain. I chose a weight which had been the weight I’d be able to get down to in the past (always bounced between 60-75 kgs) & my surgeon agreed it was an appropriate & realistic goal (interestingly it would have been 75% of what I did lose). My body had a different idea & I lost more. My set point put me at a weight lower than my goal. For years I was told I had a larger frame. But when the weight went the truth was I have a smaller frame & my lower weight is fine for me. I haven’t had any skin removal because I felt I didn’t have that much & it wouldn’t be worth the surgery, recovery & scaring. But that’s me. They’d probably remove less than 1kilogram of lose skin from all over my body. -

My surgeon's office said that most people who reach their goal weight are carrying around 5-10 pounds of excess skin. -

You've already made such incredible progress! re: loose skin, I've always wondered if the people who have surgery to remove excess skin wake up to find themselves 10 lbs lighter post-op. -
How did you choose your goal weight?
kcuster83 replied to kbsleeved's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I choose mine based on how I looked and felt the last time I was close to it. My lowest adult weight was 260lbs so I modified it to 225 for my goal weight based on that. My surgeon and Dietician agreed it was a great goal weight for me (I am 6ft tall with a broad frame) and a good expectation. I will be completely satisfied to be 225 (ish) if I never lost another lb. BUT, I did lower my goal from there to 210 lbs because that would be a pound less than half of what I was when I started and I thought it would be quite an accomplishment to know I lost over have of my body! Would be super cool but I would completely fine never hitting it. Then, I have a 3rd goal of 199 and that is ONLY to be able to know and say I weighed less than 200lbs as an adult. HAHA Personally, I think it would be too thin for my preference but I want to see it and then be ok gaining like 10-20 lbs back to be where I would prefer. I am actually pretty content in the 250s right now other than all skin so if I stopped losing now, I would be "ok" with it but prefer to loose another 25-50 lbs. -
How did you choose your goal weight?

They take it from there own BMI calculator. I am in the UK so the parameters may be different to yours. It uses height, age, ethnicity and how much exercise you do. A healthy range for me would be between 112 pounds [haha] and 150 pounds according to the British Medical Association. So I guess they pick a number in between and anything extra is classed as excess weight. So 100 % of my excess weight would be between 218 pounds and 190 pounds lost. The sleeve surgery itself says you should loose 65 % of excess weight -
i get what you are saying… I want to keep the loosing train going and gain a lot more strength and flexibility … i think i already am strengthening muscles because my weight is being stubborn but my clothes are hanging on me and my facial recognition at my work stopped recognizing me lol lol work the enthusiasm to tone up while i can before lazy kicks in

I didn't/ don't have a goal weight because I have been crushed by not achieving it in the past. Also I don't know how far this surgery will take me. The hospital dietician said I could loose 65% of my excess weight and I have already smashed that, her words. Loosing 100lbs was my first goal and I got there easy. I personally would like to get under the 200lbs barrier even if its only a pound. Not being in the obese category would be nice too...... -
November 2022 Surgery Buddies

Was running low on my protein shake, which the only one I have had post-surgery is premier chocolate and I do not even like chocolate but find it good. I reordered the caramel which I found good before and the chocolate peanut butter which is delicious like a butter finger or resees cup. I will be taking a few for my holiday vacation. Last night I had a slice of ham too fast and just sat on the back of my throat, granted yesterday was a day I was eating everything fast so that did not help. Today is a new day and I'm making sure I take smaller bites and chew chew chew. My weight has fluctuated a bit, but it has moved I think is the hormones (dry skin anyone) and the fact I took some stool softener too. -

Hi All, I am 4 months post GS and I have been falling back into old habits. Like eating out of boredom. I thought I had addressed that behavior earlier prior to surgery. But now it has reared its ugly head again. I feel like I have a little demon in me telling me to eat that muffin, eat that cookie, try that cake. I can't seem to shake it off. I have I have been trying to drink water or tea when I get the need to eat. It works sometimes, but I have had 4 days where my little demon had full on control and I didn't loose any weight for two weeks. I guess the good part is I didn't gain any either. I am trying to figure out where this negative eating is coming from. I am disappointed in myself with my lack of control. I am open to any idea you all have that can help. Thank you, Mel

It may also be that as you are loosing weight your stance may have altered. I walk so much taller these days and it made me ache until my muscles got used to it. Also I needed new bras as my old ones gave me back aches just because of the size change.

I did it!!! I lost 100 pounds!!!!
SleeveToBypass2023 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can't believe it. As of today, 7 months and 1 week since my surgery, I have officially lost 100 pounds!!!! I was 388 the day of my surgery. I cried this morning when I weighed myself. My next goal is to hit 270, which is what I weighed when I met my husband. After that, my last goal is to get to 200. Once I do that, I'll have to maintain it for a while and then SKIN SURGERY!!!!! There's no magic cure, no pill or food or drink that just magically makes the weight melt off. This is the result of the sleeve surgery, keto, working out 5-6 days per week (and alternating between cardio and weight training), and staying on track with what, and how much, I eat. No one thing works for me, it all has to be combined into a partnership for my mind and body. Surgery alone isn't enough. Keto alone won't work (at least it didn't for me). Working out by itself helps a little, but not enough. It ALL has to work together, and the key is to stay motivated and dedicated. Stalls suck, and they get frustrating. But as long as I keep my eyes on the prize, I'm actually gonna get there!!!! I never thought this was possible, but here I am -

Does everyone get a boob job after weight loss?
ms.sss replied to anniedebbie's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
so i had 3 procedures...breast lift, tummy tuck and arm lift. and i gotta say, of the three, the breast lift was the surprise fave. while the TT addressed my vanity needs (to rock a bikini at my age, which doesn't happen often anyway), and the arm lift adressed my self-consciousness of my flappy upper arms when wearing sleeveless tops (which i wear ALL. THE. TIME.), the breast lift addressed a quality of life issue i didn't know i had. i go braless most of the time, and its nice to not have to deal with the post bra-wearing itch or the binding feeling of wearing one. i sleep more comfortably cuz i don't need a bra at night, nor do i have moist "underboobs" anymore. running (or any type of exercise) is much more comfortable cuz i dont have the extra skin or bulk bouncing around when i move vigorously. button front shirts fit nicely over my boobs without the tell-tale gap between buttons, so i no longer keep checking if im busting out or flashing a bit of boob or bra unintentionally. -

I've literally worn a bra (usually a soft, comfy sports bra) 24-7 unless I'm in the shower since my surgery, and I feel like it has helped quite a bit...I started doing it because one of my incisions after the surgery was right under my right breast and it was uncomfortable but I'm 15 mos out and still only go "all natural" if I'm in the bath or shower. My bra size has gone from a 42DD to a 32D so I havent had a lot of actual loss but they're "deflated" looking. If I suddenly came into a lot of money I might want to get a breast lift but it's low on my list of priorities (now...skin removal and a neck lift...those are a priority). -
It happens, don't stress. You couldn't eat enough to gain that weight in fat so very likely water weight. Take 1 cup of lukewarm water and 1/8 of a fresh lemon. Squeeze the juice in the water and drink it. It is a natural diuretic and works amazingly! PS: I can gain and loose 10 lbs in water. I have seen it. Especially when I was bigger, now i don't see that much fluctuation but still fluctuate none the less.

infection round two surgery 11/3 went to er 11/11 for infection that burst thought that it healed up- skin was skin colored, no heat, no hard knot under skin, white scar formed, area was concave.. until sunday….. became red, tender etc… got antibiotics on monday and took two doses; woke up this morning and saw my incision was breaking open subq with thin skin holding it back from bursting … went to my surgeons office and he was i. surgery but i tried to wait on him but it burst while waiting… (i luckily brought a tea towel and most of the infection was caught by it… soaked through and now in the trash). his nurse spent 30 mins cleaning and getting some of the yuck out then sent me to er where i got another ct with contrast, two rounds of antibiotics, potassium and fluids… sent home again and follow up later this week…. oh the joys that come with surgery -
Want to get weight loss surgery but am not getting approved
liveaboard15 replied to shonna1989's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
5'7 and 210lb. You are great honestly right there. Yes a little overweight. But i am 5'4 and 205lb and i am so happy at this point tho i would love to loose a little more. Eat healthy and exercise. As for the surgery... you could always pay for it yourself. as many of us have who insurance wont cover it. Yes its expensive. Many on a budget end up going to mexico to have their surgery. Its about half the cost if not cheaper there. My surgery i paid around 20 grand for it. But in Mexico it would have been less than 10. I didnt do it because i just wanted to be near my home after surgery. Also maybe getting a sleep study done. You may have sleep apnea??? That is one qualifying way to get approved for surgery once you get your BMI just a little higher. -
You and i are both the same height and almost the same starting weight. I was so happy when i hit 100lb lost. Now i am trying to get under that 200 mark but struggling to loose these last 5 lb lol. Congrats on your achievement!

What am I doing wrong?
KimA-GA replied to heatherdbby's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
your calories could be too low too… sometimes one day with some reasonable treats and higher calories will kick your metabolism into gear … also are you measuring ??? often people who exercise will loose inches (fat) but not pounds due to muscles 💪
