    Toilet visits and other niggles

I hardly peed in the beginning too bc I couldn’t get enough in. Just keep taking small sips frequently

Ten month before and after pics

Premier choc protein shake when I wake up, a serving of cheese for a mid morning snack, a yogurt before lunch, lunch is a small salad with chicken breast/corn/black beans/cheese, and then I eat whatever I want the rest of the day. Sometimes a protein bar throughout the day, just depends. Typically, I eat healthy but I don’t deny myself anything I want bc I eat such tiny portions it doesn’t add up to be nearly as much crap as I ate before the surgery!

Thanks! Yeah I need to do that LOL I got the bottoms from amazon $12.99. Top is from Salvation Army $2.50!!! I had a seamstress take it in as it was too big around the waist and I couldn’t be happier bc I can NEVER find a top to fit me!!!

    Gout

So, I've developed gout from the high protein diet. The provider came to my home and diagnosed me. She prescribed me prednisone because my toe is all swollen. Took half a pill at noon and dinner bs was 228. My foot feels way better, but I have neuropathy and now my feet are burning. To take the steroids or stop? I think stop. I can deal with the pain and try and eat a low purine diet. Anyone else deal with these things due to surgery?
  5. Had my sleeve surgery June 26th, 2018. I’ve lost about 120 pounds total. I’m at 165 right now (goal was 180). I’m ready for a tummy tuck and breast lift!!! But after trying on my new BIKINI today I’m thinking maybe I should save the $20k and just enjoy a being skinny with a little bit of extra skin lol. I just wanted to show some before and after pics bc I know that looking at other people’s helped me when I needed some motivation and hope! So here they are! I’m happy, healthy, and proud of where I am!
  6. Hi! I think we're surgery twins... May 16th! I started phase 2 of my liquid diet (5 meal replacement shakes, 200 cal specific veggies) today. For the first part of my liquid diet, I struggled a bit initially with cravings. The worst has been cooking for my family and not being able to join them. Now I've become pretty good at distracting myself. Any time I feel cravings or hunger that can't be fed at the moment, I do a mini workout. Some stretches, a few wall push ups, or some marching in place. It helps a bit. As to the vitamins, definitely check with your surgical team. I am to stop mine 3 days prior to surgery, and then all but one of my prescriptions the day before surgery. The nerves are real, but this is a good step. Good luck on your journey!
  7. Hiya all, I'm so happy to be on the other side, finally sleeved 4.29. Im curious if my experience so far is within normal. My surgeon used staples to ensure patients would come to week follow up. I'm pretty sore, but just on the incision to the right on my abd. I'm wearing a binder but when I stand up it feels like my guts will come out. I still need full help standing up. I cant fully stand upright bc of pain. Every sip of room temp water makes my stomach clench and spasm. I've had a low grade temp today 99.5 with a massive headache. Food smells are toooo much. Tried to sip Gatorade zero and it was to sweet. Sipped a little warm bone broth, that seems to be ok. I also had a moment where I had all these thoughts about being a failure, having to cut out parts of me to stop eating. Got really down on myself. Please someone tell me this is all normal. And thank you for listening. This place has been wonderful for support and info. Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Waiting

My information was submitted to my insurance company today for my revision from sleeve to bypass. I am praying that I get an approval fast, so ready for this surgery to work this time. I graduate in July with my BS and hoping that I am well after the surgery to walk across the stage. Praying I get approved and have the surgery in May. My surgeon stated that my insurance company takes about a month for approval praying it doesn’t take a month for approval.

    February 2019 weight loss buds

Nope. I was a pack a day smoker for almost 15 years. One day decided I was fed up with something so stupid having that kind of control over me. Got angry enough that I stopped mid-pack and never smoked another one. That was almost 13 years ago and while it had its white-knuckle moments at first, I too took myself out of situations where I was tempted to smoke and with time it got a lot easier. Basically my mindset now is to relearn how and what to eat and to incorporate as many healthier swaps and choices as I can. It will be a learning process, but at least I do have this FABULOUS tool of a smaller stomach in my toolbox. Also, I get a good metabolic reboot so most of my previous errors/bad choices don’t follow me around for eternity. I’m seriously reading Dr Fungs books on intermittent fasting and as soon as my body finishes the honeymoon phase, I’m going to use IF as my primary method to control my weight. Right now it’s just too soon post surgery.

    Feel Good

Had my surgery 4/24 & Yea I’m feeling pretty good. No trouble getting in my liquids, going to bathroom regularly. Was getting a lil suspicious actually, bc I thought it was going to be worse. Still sore and tender but I haven’t needed pain meds since they stopped giving them to me in the hospital. I feel blessed.

    First workout at the gym

My theory is that because we are on a low carb diet. Our bodies use up all the carbs which is the first line of fuel for aerobic exercise. So cardio is hard bc we run into a "wall" so much sooner than before when we had carb reserves in our bodies.

    February 2019 weight loss buds

You are doing fabulous. Congrats! I am type 2. However, my blood sugar is normalizing. I'm on nothing during the day and 8-20 units of Lantus at night. My fasting bs and evening one is averaging about 140. The endo said not to take glimeperide if the sugars are under 180. I'm hoping to come off all meds sooner or later.
  16. I've been diabetic for almost 15 years. I had my surgery 2 months ago today. Before surgery I was on metformin 2x day 1000mg. Glimeperide 2x 4g and 72 units Lantus at night. I've lost 45 pounds. After surgery my sugars were over 200 and sometimes 300. I was told not to take medicine, but went back on metformin and had terrible diarrhea, so I had to discontinue it because I wasn't getting enough fluids in. Today I only take glimeperide if my morning or dinnertime bs is over 180. In the last month I have only had to take it once. I was taking between 8-20 units of Lamtus, but now think I can come off that too. My bs has been under 145 each morning without anything. I hope that my numbers will continue to lower as I lose more weight. Good luck!
  17. Hello everybody. I’ve just had my surgery recently (19 April). So I am on week one. I am finding it hard to eat. While I was hospitalized they gave me broth and apple sauce. Once I started walking they gave me sort of liquidy mashed food. Like I had a coucous cream. I was operated in France and after watching YouTube videos, I figured that duets varied from hospitals and countries. However during this week, due to how I was fed in the hospital I was confused on how to eat. So I am going through apple sauces, yoghurt adding protein powder to them. And also having soups. My question is has anyone struggled with week one in the same fashion.

    Birth Control Options

I also have PCOS, so I wasn't on BC before surgery. I just recently had my yearly well-woman appointment and decided to get on BC again since I don't want another child any time soon- if at all. I only have one, but I'm happy with that. My original intent was to get the arm implant because I had a bad experience with the IUD a couple years ago, but she said they see more weight gain with the arm implant and the Depo shot than they do with the pill. So I decided to go with the pill.

Six months post-op+ : The Sophomores Thread

Brooks Ghost sneakers all the way!!! Light weight, great arch support (I do put extra added support inside bc I have low arches). Feel like your walking on a cloud.
  20. Hey guys! I’m scheduled for sleeve surgery this Thursday, the 25th. However.....we are STILL waiting on my insurance approval!!! Nothing like cutting it close. Just wondering if anyone has Fed BCBS insurance and if you got denied, what was the reason? Or if you got approved, how long did it take? My insurance coordinator submitted everything last Monday but I have a bad feeling I’m going to be denied....

    Fear!!

And no matter how early or late in the Day it is for your Surgery, He's already up, on the job and watching over YOU!❤ And you will not die of malnutrition, your doctor's will intervene before that happens. I was at risk, had 3 months of TPN being fed through an arm vein 12 hours daily, came out fine, sassy as ever, lost 30 pounds in a month, might not duplicate that but I am still losing but in a healthier way. There is nothing to fear, had multiple operations but this was by far the easiest. And although my recovery has not been classic it still isn't THAT BAD, could never have lost what I have on diet alone. Precious Pouch is a cruel taskmistress at times, but she and I will be a duo until my death, and I don't plan that for anytime soon. You are going to do fine , if I can do it at 72 it should be easy- peasy for you. Stop looking for calamity, just cross your bridges, nobody asked you to build overpasses, side ramps and round-abouts. And if you need to talk I'm almost always here!

    Diabetic Results

I was in metformin, glimperide and Lantus. I've had diabetes for 15 years or so. I'm now down to 10 units 9f lantus at night. I take glimeperide only if my breakfast or dinner bs is over 180. I'm pleased my numbers are in the 140 range and this morning was 121. They were terribly high the first month out.
  23. Thank you all. I was only going to take a week off but i think I’ll have to take more. Did any of you tell your work you were taking leave bc of having a sleeve or did you tell them something else?
  24. So I get a phone call this morning from my Surgeon himself asking a question on my history. Apparently my insurance company contacted them today asking for more information on a subject. I never smoked a cigarette in my life, but occasionally in the summer will smoke a cigar here and there with my husband. Somehow it got put in my medical history that I’m a smoker!? So he asked about this again because my insurance specifically says patient can not smoke in the past 6 months or it’s an automatic denial. Well I said the last time I had a cigar was last July and I never had a cigarette in my life. He said he will adend that in my history and submit it so that problem was cleared. Then he said the second thing they are requesting is all of my weights from the weight loss program I did for the last 2 years to see my BMI’s. I started in 2016 with a BMI of 42 but then dropped to a BMI of 34 briefly up until November of 2018 before I have steadily gained back up to BMI of 37 now. Only thing is insurance might likely deny me because I haven’t been over BMI of 35 for the recent “full” year. Which is a requirement for Fed BCBS. Praying they take into consideration my overall weight loss attempt the past 2 years. My surgery is scheduled for next Thursday and I’m freaking out! I just don’t have a good feeling now at all about getting approved. soooo... It’s Easter today and I’m on my second day of my pre-op liquid diet. It’s not AS hard as I thought it would be. Thank GOD for those non starchy vegetables I get to have though. Makes a big difference being able to “chew” some foods. Plus, they have def filled me up and taken the edge off. I actually went to bed last night feeling stuffed and couldn’t even get my last Protein Drink in. I’m allowed 1-2 cups of steamed or raw veggies a day but I think I definitely exceeded that yesterday. I have my sugar free Jello which helps and I’m drinking a ton of caffeine free tea and crystal light in my Water. The chicken Bone Broth is very filling as well so that’s a bonus too! Plus the Protein Shake3 times a day. I just wish I knew if I was definitely going to have the surgery on Thursday before the weekend came. It’s going to stink if I did this and I find our insurance denied me. I think If I knew the surgery was definite on the 25th, mentally I would be better with the liquid diet. Hoping I hear something either way tomorrow! Oh..and if anyone has any recommendations on veggies and what/how they cooked them during this, that would be great!
  25. Hey Fluffy! So I basically break my fast everyday with a premier protein. A couple hours later I have 2.5oz of chicken and then deli meat and a cheese stick around 8:30. In between those meals I TRY to squeeze in some raw veggies or a couple bites of fresh fruit but it doesn’t always happen. As you can see my restriction is still pretty amazing. Eating times are 1pm-9pm. In the last month or so My weight loss had slowed down drastically I think partly bc I’m 9mo out now and partly bc I had been grazing. Nothing crazy but maybe an extra 150-200calories. Can I update ticker from the app?
