I am no doctor, nor am I a nurse, but it could have very well been that u had some sort of obstruction. I have had 16 abdominal surgeries in the last 7 yrs like, and most were hernia repairs and bowel obstructions, and i'll tell ya, there is noooo pain in this worldddddd like an obstruction. I have had partial and full blown obstructions, and its like someone is stabbing u in cold blood, with a knife constantly....major pain and very uncomfortable feeling, and u cant go to the bathroom, so it sounds to me like thats probably what u experienced. that is what they give u for the pain....morphein In any event, im glad ur feeling better now, and hope ur'll never have to experience anything like that again!!! I have every ailment under the sun. In addition, recently diagnosed with lupus, and after all the bypass surgeons told me im nooo candidate for the bypass, now,....cause my intestines r hanging way below my pelic area, and its like an emergency sort of, they wanna do the sleeve on me and repair the intestines/hernia at the same time. Good luck to u keep up the good work!!!

June Sleever's Compilation - Good Luck & Well Wishes
MinaT posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have retaken over the Compilation thread as of June 15th and just got it up to date. Please realize I had surgery June 4th and I'm still struggling a bit. If anyone sees someone post in the section that is outside of June mainly a thread called "Any June Sleevers" which is located in the preop section and not June section, please post their name at the end of this thread or direct them here. It will help me keep up. Unfortunately, I can't be online as long as I used to presurgery. Thank you so much. My prayers continue to go out to those that had surgery and to those that are coming up on their surgery. Best wishes for speedy recovery to all. I, too, am 5 days out. I, too, wanted the sleeve, but the Dr. told me that I would have much better results with the bypass. I went to him because I trusted him and the fact that he had performed over 6,000 procedures. Well, I hired him for his expertise, so why not follow his advice? I did and had the bypass last Wednesday. I feel great. Soreness, but no pain. I feel as if there is an area of liquid or something on my left side. Dr. says its Fluid and will go away. Hope so. He also recommended the bypass because I had diabetes. My sugar reading for the first couple days were 168, 136, 121, 111, 100, 89 and lastly 68. He says I'm on the way to no diabetes. Having difficulty taking in all the Water, but am trying. So far, I am happy and we'll see how it goes. Haven't gotten a a scale yet. Maybe Wednesday --> 1 week.

Before the surgery
James Marusek replied to ojosbrillantez's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I had severe acid reflux prior to surgery, so I had gastric bypass because sleeve will only make the condition worse. Many on this site had sleeve only to have it revised to gastric bypass because of problems with GERD after they were sleeved. -

I have not have it yet .. end of next month, I chose Bypass more rate of weight loss, my dislocated knee needs a break ASAP lol . And plus I get lots of heartburn from time to time and sleeve won’t be the best one for that. Like someone else said Sleeve is pretty new , even in the seminar the doctor mention they don’t have as much information. But if I were you .. ask your Surgeon .. he can give you more accurate info .. than us. I see people debating on malabsorption. “There will be obstacles. There will be doubters. There will be mistakes. But with hard work, there are no limits.” —Michael Phelps -
My doctor wants to perform a sleeve. I would prefer a bypass due to my eating history and desire to succeed and make it last. I dont want to go back later and have to have the bypass if I have already done a sleeve. Please advice me, not really sure what to say or do at this point. I want surgery even if it's just the sleeve. Will it work? Is it a ploy to get revision money later? [emoji15] Sent from my SM-G930P using BariatricPal mobile app

Thinking if I'm making the right decision.
Dub replied to CHELLB33's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Doubts are normal. There is a lot to consider. Every single one of the doctors I've been seeing over the past year for various maladies have all said the same thing...WLS is what you should consider. I listened to them and got things in motion. This time next month should find me healing up from my bypass and losing at a great pace. Positive outlook will be needed to get through the no fun liquid diet I'm starting tomorrow. You'll do great. Lots of great advisors on here -

Hey there!!! I am 30 & have just started the journey as well, but for the Gastric Sleeve. I am so excited/anxious with this decision. My mother had Gastric Bypass & has gone from 350 to 145 in a little over a year. I am currently at 230 & hoping to be back to my old 150 self with the help of this surgery. I would LOVE a journey buddy too. I am a cash pay patient so I'm currently working on saving the funds. -

Chose sleeve, because I did not want malabsorbtion. You may want to think about how you would have adequate nutrition if you want children, as the bypass would make that a lot more difficult. Also the nurse practicioner at my PCP had bypass and she developed ulcers in the unused stomach that is left in after bypass, she also has B12 deficiency. The pouch created in bypass still has the fundus part of the stomach and it can stretch, whereas this is not an issuebw the sleeve. I was sleeved 5 days ago and doing very well. -

Thank you for your insight on this [emoji4] have you had many issues with dumping syndrome? It sounds pretty scary, that's the main scare factor for me in regards to the bypass Sent from my SM-G920T using BariatricPal mobile app -
Hello all, I have been out of surgery for about 6 hours, and I am just trying to navigate everything. Most of what they told me at the hospital was when I was too drugged up to comprehend it all. Firstly, I have been sleeping all day, but getting up to walk every 2 hours. How long do these mini walks to avoid blood clots need to last? Is it okay for me to continue sleeping while doing this until I am not tired anymore? I hardly got any sleep last night, because my brain was all over the place. I have also been almost vomiting, which just ends up being a burp. I can't really control it. Is that okay at this point? I am terrified of damaging anything. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Nsaids , Clomid and testosterone replacement therapy post op after gastric bypass surgery
LarrySm88 replied to LarrySm88's topic in The Guys’ Room
wow that's great i don't even think mini bypass was an option for me . i initially wanted the sleeve , but my insurance only covered gastric bypass 100% was the mini out of pocket? sometimes i get depressed thinking mine can not be reversed, not that i want to reverse it, its a mind game i play with myself i guess. plus going through the surgery and diet and everything on top of trying to recover my natural testosterone is tough mentally i start thinking i cant eat, i cant drink alcohol, I have no sex drive , but I'm down 50 lbs looking good. its a crazy mind game, I'm mentally tough ill be fine. -
As of now I'm scheduled for a revision from a lap band to RNY on Nov 20. Fingers crossed!

I had a sleeve done in August 2010. Had typical post surgery issues, but lost and kept off 100+. Had hernia surgery 2x but reflux and gerd required revision. 3 weeks bypass post op. Now back to beginning but with less weight loss, excess terrible gas, insomnia, and depression. Need someone to talk through ledge sitting and weepiness.

Sleeve revised to RNY
Ready2Live! replied to Suzanne31965's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I too will be having a revision from sleeve to bypass on 3/29 due to complications. I am sorry you have had a rough go. If it helps, your post is reminding me that it is going to be another major surgery with more recovery. You are helping me to be better mentally prepared. How are you feeling now? -
I’d be ringing my surgeon & requesting/demanding an appointment @timetoshine. Five months without any checks seems crazy to me. I’d had several appointments by then. Make a list of questions to ask them like your exhaustion, sickness, small portions. Out of curiosity how big are your portions? Are you eating slowly, taking small bites? Eating too much, too quickly & foods that are too coarse are renown for upsetting your tummy e.g. the foamies & then brining up what you ate. Keeping foods moist with sauces & gravies can help. Is there a reason you haven’t had your B12 shot yet or just life being too busy? I’d get that soon too as it will help with your exhaustion. Establish a routine with your daily med taking. It is essential not to miss your vitamins with bypass because of the malabsorption issues. Dense foods can cause issues for people. Chicken breast & steak tend to be the more difficult ones. How do you go with other cuts of meat like minced beef or minced chicken? Chicken thighs are more tender than breast too. Do you have a dietician? I’d ask them for some suggestions as to what you can eat to get more protein in. I relied a lot on high protein yoghurt & yoghurt drinks/ smoothies to push my protein up. It can take some people longer than others for everything to settle & to work out all your new tummy/digestive system’s quirks.

3 days until revision!
band2bypass15 replied to hunkin702's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had revision from band to RNY on January 23, 2015. I stayed 2 days in the hospital. I was off heavy pain medicine the next morning. I walked right way and kept walking. I sipped water every 15 minutes. I know I am very lucky and thank god for a relatively easy recovery. I had very little pain, quick recovery and I'm down 26 lbs. already. I have been following my doctors orders to a "T". I wish I had done the RNY the first time, but I was too scared. This has been one of the best decisions I've made! I wish you the best of luck! -
Biggest mistake you've made SINCE banding?
flower replied to mypov's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My biggest mistake was being too tight for months and vomiting everyday for 4-5 months finally had to get a complete unfill had nothing for a month gained 4 pounds my lesson learned respect your band hopefully after a barium swallow the band is intact by the grace of god after all that vomiting I thought it had slipped these were my options if it did go for another operation and readjust it to the correct position. revise to gastric bypass. or just leave it out all bad options meaning more operations luckily it was okay and I am on my way after months of no weight loss just vomiting eating and vomiting more what we do to ourselves its sickening. -
