So I am meeting with nutritionist and psych on same day this week. I am nervous since I am 1 yr out of an abusive marriage and I was honest about stress and the feeling of depression on the questionnaire. I have never felt any self pitty and I have always tried to remain strong for my 10 yr old daughter. I firmly believe my faith has driven me and the leaving him was the BEST choice for my little one and I. But now I am afraid the psych might say, the lap band is no good for me...someone please advise what the psych eval may consist of...

So i finally am experiencing restriction on what i eat. Here's my story. I was banded 08/13/10. Lost 20 lbs pre and post op. After the after surgery feelings went away my appetite came right back and i felt absolutley nothing. I couldn't tell that i had a surgery. I was slightly better at dieting but my portions were still pretty large. I never really gained or lost, and stayed right around 20 lbs lost. My doc is rediculously busy, and the closest he could schedule fills were usually 7 weeks apart. he told me that he would like to do fills every three weeks, but he never had enough appointments to do that. He was also conservative on how much saline he put in. That was frustrating because i just wanted it to go faster and it was taking forever. so now 5 months later i am finally feeling restriction!!!! Its a crazy feeling. As soon as i take bites i feel like it is hard to swallow. I feel like i can feel the food going all the way down, and i feel like i need to eat really slow and chew a lot. Sometimes it almost feels like im choking on my food, but when i sit for a minute the feeling goes away and i can eat more. But depending on what i eat i feel like i cant eat any more, and wouldn't enjoy it if i did eat more. For the last 5 days i have only ate like 700 calories a day, and i haven't had the awful torture feelings that i did when i use to diet. Im so excited for the future, and just wanted others in "bandster hell" to see that it will eventually work with time and patience.

My cycle is always 28 days and on time... after surgery it was 2 weeks late.... and then 6 weeks late.... surgery can mess with your cycle and so can weight loss. I would give it a couple of months to level itself out ... if it doesn't then get checked out????

Me Too. I could probably count the times Aunt Flo has come to visit on both hands and feet. I'm 45 so it hasn't been a lot. But guess what she has been here three times in the 3 1/2 months since surgery. I do not like having Aunt Flo visit. I want her to go somewhere and stay forever. M

Hi Flower: My husband is a chef and he taught my weight loss group last week how to put a low calorie twist on some of his favourite hor d'oeurves. If you have to feed all these people there might as well be stuff that you can eat. Cucumber rounds make a great base ...cut an english cucumber in 1/2 in rounds.....using the tip of a teaspoon scoup out the centre making a little bowl (don't go all the way through). Mix canned crab with low fat mayo, finely chopped onion, raddish, celery and place a spoon full in each hole topped with a parsley leaf. Mix low fat cream cheese with tabasco or chipotle puree, place a teaspoon on a rice cracker and top with a baby shrimp (can by a small bag frozen) top with anything that will add colour like a sliver of red pepper, parsley, coriander, etc. dips....mix curry with low fat yogourt and sour cream ........mix hot salsa...half and half....with low fat sour cream ........make your own salsa....chopped tomato, red onion, lime juice, garlic, cilantro, tablespoon of olive oil, salt and pepper....best served the next day. I have an entire Christmas dinner of recipes that my husband put together for my weight loss group, couldn't possible retype them but it you would like to try and scan and email them to you just pm me your email address. I'm VERY restrictive but haven't had a fill
derocas replied to derocas's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
This is just an update. I went to my doctor today and he completely unfilled me. I have relief from the restriction but now I have some slight heartburn. Things aren't looking so good because all of these signs are pointing to a possible band slip. I won't know until Sept. 13th which is the earliest appt. I could get to have upper GI barrium test done. I'm just planning on taking it easy over the next few weeks but I have to admit I'm VERY nervous. I am now at a healthy weight and I don't know if my insurance will cover to have the band replaced if it needs to be:cry. -
Yeah...Me too. My doctor told me it was normal due to being a female with out of control hormones. I did happen to loose 4 extra lbs the week after Xmas. Had my surgery on Sept. 15, 2007 and have lost a total of 65 lbs. Near my target weight of 127. I love hearing everyones personal stories...I now know I am not alone.

Hey guys! I had my first fill a couple weeks ago with no issues, but now I seem to be stuck at the same weight. I'm still eating correctly and exercising (an hour of laps every day in the pool), but I can't seem to break 350. What's up? Anyone else been here? Thanks!

I'm allowed decaf after one week

Well, you know there is a risk with any surgery, whether it's lap-band or a hangnail. But, this "table" has to be safer than being on the table for a heart attack or stroke in an emergency situation, where nobody knows you or your history. And we know that's where we're headed, with just about 100% certainty. I look at my lap-band as insurance against that happening. I can tell you this, you have chosen the best group to oversee this process for you and they will make you feel comfortable and take wonderful care of you. I, too, had to go through the six month ordeal and by the time I had my surgery date, I was so excited. I was never nervous the day of surgery and here I am three weeks later and I feel wonderful and so happy I'm on my way to being healthier. As far as the liver, I didn't have to lose any weight beforehand, but in nutrition class we were asked to follow a low carb, low fat diet for a couple of weeks leading up to surgery to help shrink the liver. I lost some weight in those two weeks, so I would try and follow that diet. Or call and ask, they don't mind at all.

I was banded on the 13th. Last week I went out and walked around the stores 3-4 times (TOO HOT OUTSIDE!) and today I went for a walk around the building and up and down the stairs a few times. Walking never bothers me. I am going to get up and do the elliptical in the morning to see if some real bloodflow helps, doctors release be damned! It's constant and pain killers aren't doing the job unfortunately.

My wife just laughed at me...

Sounds like a great dinner! When I was on puréed foods, I made all sorts of concoctions. They didn't look pretty, but after two weeks of sweet protein shakes, I was craving more savory foods. My favorite was sweet corn cake, turkey breast, refried beans and taco seasoning topped with salsa...yummy!!! Can't wait to hear what you cook once you start on solids! Keep us posted. -
I DO have something to mention in the problem department. The all-liquid diet can cause urgent diarrhea which is majorly inconvenient in the classroom...not to mention some pretty unpleasant noises in a bathroom shared with students. :painkiller: (sorry, had to use that smilie!) I had forgotten this little problem until I had a rough adjustment period with my recent fill that kept me on all liquids for 2 weeks.

I shoot for at least one hour of cardio 7 days a week so that if I miss one day I've done 6 days. Are you measuring your protein? My doctor says 3 oz per meal.

I was consistently moving too after my surgery. The gas pain was the worse thing!! At 3 weeks I felt so much better, that was when I felt normal again. Give it time, I know it's a terrible feeling but it will be over very soon

Surgery is scheduled for the 20th and I will need to travel about 4000 miles round trip very soon after. I will not have to drive but I will be in the car. I know it sounds impossible saying it but I do not want to put it off. I normally recover quickly, returning to work a couple days after a hysterectomy and three days after heart attack. If I pack well and focus on intake can this be done? Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

Mini Me!!!!! I just found out last night. I'm the first surgery at 7:30 !!!!! So when your getting there...I'll be getting banded! I have to be there at 5:30!! Which means we are getting up at 4 am!:faint: I'm so nervous too. Send a blessing at that time if you remember, and I'll send one right now to you because I'll be three sheets to the wind by the time you arrive.

I am scheduled for lap band surgery in two weeks. While I have read much on the procedure, I've yet to talk to anyone who has gone through this. Any advice?
-
Do you know how much your fills were? Also, what size band do you have? I have a 4 cc band with a total of 1.9 cc fills, and that puts me in a pretty good spot. My husband has a 10 cc band and has three fills totalling 7 cc, and he can still eat more than he should. Proper fills geared to each individual is what makes this thing work. Don't give up yet!

Thanks to everyone for all of the information. I too have the VG band I guess - my Dr. called it the super band. Anyway I go for my first fill on Wed. 9/28 and my surgery was 9/14. I hope that I come away with the full feeling and it lasts more than a week - like with the initial surgery. I've lost 13 pounds and want to continue. I'm just tired of being tired. Thanks all - this is a G~R~E~A~T Site!!! Kim B:banana

I received such a blessing from this so I wanted to share. I myself would like to see further devotions of encouragement on this thread so please feel free to join me! Part of my First Place weight program for this week spoke on I Corinthians 6:20. "For ye are bought with a price:therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's." The writer for First Place added "God created us so we can bring glory to Him through our lives. Our physical bodies are the tools we use to glorify God. Through everything we do, we try and live in such a way that people think more highly of God because of what they see in us. If we want to bring our eating habits under Christ's control so we can have a positive witness for Christ, we can ask God, with confidence, to help us lose weight. God knows if we intend to use our victory over our weight problem to bring Him glory! He also knows if we only want victory to satisfy selfish motives." I gave God glory thru thanking Him out loud last night when my son hit the baseball at his game scoring 3 for his team. I will do the same as I shed these pounds. And when someone asks me, "How are you doing this?" God's control over my life will be my answer, my acknowledgement, and my praise! "Father in heaven, give us the strength today to do your will, so you will be glorified. In your name, Amen."

Hypothyroidism??
Tiffykins replied to HEARTONMYSLEEVE's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My mother has a band, and hypothryroidism she has been able to lose 75lbs in the first year, but it's because her band gives her hell. She has been stalled out for over a year now. Her thyroid meds have been adjusted as she lost weight. Essentially, with her band, she has lost restriction and can't get a fill because she pukes. So, she's kind of maintaining her 75lb loss with hopes of losing another 30 with diet and exercise. -
Delarla, my first period was scheduled to arrive 4 days after my surgery and it did not happen. The following month it was late by 5 days. But my PMS was strange . I got bloated and my band became very tight I actually lost 3 pounds during that time since all I could do was liquids and yogurt I was so tight . This month is the same thing, the past week I have had this tightness and again I have lost 2 pounds but have not actually started yet but I know it's on it's way. I have the classis symptoms. My Dr. (ortiz) told me this was all normal, rapid weight loss and surgery can delay a womans menstrual cycle, he told me it could take up to 3 months to regulate. Don't worry, I think this is the norm for most of us new bandsters. Hope this helps Michelle 4.6.04 265/238.5/160ish

Oh that is to cool -- I love a guy who shows emotions - I could not forgot the week that the scale did not move and he was just at a loss and broke down. Though it was sad you could see how it really affects not only him but us.
