  1. Omg everything u described is the exact same with me. I lost 10 pounds post op. I don't feel full. I eat a cup of the sugar free pudding and I ask myslef like am I full?? Lol I even hear growling as well. I had surgery July 27th, I had himotoma the day after my surgery I was taken back into surgery and they flushed everything out and gave me a drain. I lost alot of blood. I stayed 5 nights 6 days in the hospital. I was so nauseous I couldn't even smell broth at the time. But yea I'm struggling with knowing if I'm full or not. Or when do I stop not a stop. It's annoying. I keep thinking I stretched my pouch already. Lol ♡sammywammy Precisely why we are given a volume to eat. For example....a meal size equals 1/4 cup or less in volume. Please connect with your nutritionist and surgeon to get a clearcut understanding of the volumes you meals should consist of. Eating until full is a flawed concept.
  2. And I feel absolutely amazing!!! I am down 61.6 pounds since my surgery day! Thanksgiving was not as tough as I thought. I had turkey with no skin, had a bite of a few other things and I was full and satisfied without sabotaging my eating for the day! This was the best decision I have ever made, my only regret is not doing it sooner. This not only saved my life but enhanced it in so many other ways. It is hard to describe how life changing this really is. I have a long way to go still but have had a great start! Just had to share how great I feel
  3. Hey y’all I’m scheduled for 2/4/19 and was wondering what you had wished you asked people who have gone through the process before your procedure

    Effexor and slow weight loss

I lost 10 pounds the first month and 11 pounds the second month. And I'm not on any antidepressants. I dunno how big you were when you started, but if you were anything like me (I was 216 day of surgery -- having already lost 20 pounds pre-op), you're losing at a pretty fast clip already.

    Plateau for last 4+ years

I'm sorry you are struggling. It sounds like you are pretty in touch with where everything is coming from...so I only want to address this: There are GREAT benefits to losing weight beyond the number on the scale. It WILL help physically (if not now, then definitely in the future--cuz realistically MO people do not die "perfectly healthy but MO". They die cuz of complications from MO in most cases) and it DOES help emotionally as well as spiritually. But the part I will address cuz I experienced it is the reduction (dramatic) in pain level from my weight of 287 and 325lbs compared to my pain level at 137lbs, right this minute. At 287 and 325lbs I was basically bed ridden. I had so much pain I could not stand for 10 minutes, could not walk for 5 minutes, had to change positions every 30 minutes to an hour. Couldn't sleep longer than an hour or two cuz of waking from pain. Couldn't clean myself (poopin) or shower without sitting down on a shower chair. I couldn't exercise or travel. I was a mass of degenerative disc and joint disease and so much more I won't bore you with. I got cortisone injections into my back and hips every 6-9 months and lived on daily pain meds (opiods) and drank to control the extra pain. I was a terrible hot mess. Every morning I woke in a 5-7 pain level and by evening every day I was at minimum an 8 1/2-10. I cried from the pain most days. Today at 137lbs I ran this morning for 35minutes strait without stopping at 3.5mph pace (slow but moving). It's a personal best. I wake in a 2-4 pain level and it stays pretty consistent. Some days it goes up to a 5, but that isn't every day. I sleep 3-6 hours at a stretch. I exercise every day (either walking, jogging, or core strengthening exercises). I am active, care for myself, the house, cook, and sleep. I don't sit down to shower. My balance is improving...I feel like I'm getting my life back. I don't drink for pain (and rarely drink now). I don't take any pain meds at all. Oh and I no longer cry daily from pain. I have such a great RD. She is part of my care team. I also have several psychs who are helping me. I just wish anyone who needed help could get the kind of help I've had cuz it's been phenomenal and a blessing.

When will I stop regretting this surgery?

Holy moly! I didn't realize so many have posted! I am now 12 weeks out. I am down 54 pounds. I spent 10 days in the hospital right after I initially posted. Ended up with blood clots in my arm from a bad IV. I was so depressed so I went to a doc and he prescribed antidepressants. I started going to church and zumba too. I absolutely still regret it. I still miss food but I have realized that there is nothing I can do to take it back. Sent from my SM-N920V using the BariatricPal App
  9. Trust me...it really does get better! I had an INCREDIBLE amount of "buyers' remorse" at first, especially because I had the surgery on 9 December 2015, right before Christmas! My family was amazing and tried their best to not indulge in lots of my favourite holiday foods in front of me, but that didn't stop me from having a huge breakdown on Christmas day and crying for a solid hour or so (no exaggeration!). As time has passed, things have become progressively easier. Yes, there are times that I want nothing more than to devour a plate of Pasta...but I know that it would make me sick (I can't really do things like pasta, rice, and white potatoes very well...they tend to make me very ill) and that in the end, the temporary pleasure of eating it would fade. What has worked for me is focusing on the end result and all the things I *can* do now. Walking doesn't make me winded, I am never one of the largest people in the room, and I can walk into any store and purchase clothing because I am now a UK size 10 (which is a US size 6) . Those are only a few things I can think of, but in the end, the benefits have all outweighed the negatives. It's taken a few months for that to really sink in, and I do still have moments when I feel like crying because there is something I REALLY want to eat but I know it's not something that I eat anymore. The other day, I would have gone to the ends of the earth to have a cheeseburger on a bun with some fries! However, taking a deep breath and focusing on the positives that have come out of the surgery really helps me. I can't promise that the journey is easy, because it's not going to be. However, it will get better! Focus on the positives and look towards the future. You can do this! *Gives a big hug*
  10. So, I ordered a few clearance dresses for work because I am swimming in everything I own! I ordered an XL dress, and pulled the 18W/18’s out of the closet. The 18’s all fit!! The dresses fit! Feeling a bit adventurous, I went to JCPenney and purchased some work shirts! XL work shirts with room to spare!! This tool is amazing..... but busting my butt in the gym everyday is doing magic on this body composition!! HW: 301 SW: 279 (Sleeved 1/28/19) CW: 251

    Puzzled by my band!

I feel the same as you i was banded aug 12 and have only lost 26 lbs - most of hich was during the preop diet - eeh i have had 2 fills bt still can eat more than i am supposed to - talked with my dr last monday - he said it is not really a point that you should only be able to consume 2 oz of food but to be able to eat enough that satisfies you and you are still losing weight - that may be 6 or even 8 oz bt need to feel that satiation. hope this helps any support is great you are not alon - the dr did say in prespective losing 26 lbs in 3 months is more than 7 lbs a month - hopeflly 70 lbs in 10 months so keep trying and exercize
  13. I am 10 days post op and just started soft foods. Having similar feelings. Hungry. Stomach growling. I'm eating slow and not much because I just started today. Thought I would feel full. Don't know why I dont. Sent from my SM-G900V using the BariatricPal App
  14. I've made many big changes, but the most unbelievable to me was fried foods. Even after LapBand I was eating fried foods all the time. A typical daily meal was Popeye's fried chicken strips. My weight loss had basically stopped after 10 months post op. I finally gave up my deep fried everything 20 months post op. It has totally changed how I eat now and I am not craving lousy foods anymore. Slowly my weight has started to go down again.

    Any other June sleevers?

Thanks for the good wishes! Today is the big day. Surgery scheduled at 2:10. May need a hiatal hernia repair, too. Hoping I can still do the single incision procedure.

    banded 6/30/09

I was banded on June 30th also. How are you feeling now? I'm doing good, a bit sore around the port wound but I understand this takes longer to heal. How are you coping with the liquid diet? OMG on day 3 I was absolutely starving and put slice of bread in my soup out of desperation. BAD GIRL! I know now, after I had eaten it ( and felt much better) I researched it and was shocked to the core to find out the possible consequences of what I'd done. I genuinely didn't know this, my doctor told me liquids only for 10 day to let the band heal but didn't go into much detail. Now I know why I am a bit worried I may have done some damage so believe me, I won't be pulling that stunt again!! I was lucky in that I didn't suffer the gas pains or any other side effects that other bandsters talk about and am just raring to go after fighting for over 20 years now to lose weight. I reckon in the past 20+ years I have lost ( and put back on most of it:glare:) around 30 stones!!! Hope you are feeling well and good luck on your journey.
  19. This is just an example of why I go by weight and not size. I went shopping yesterday and bought a size 6 capris, Now no way I wear a size 6. The last time I was a size 6 was about 20yrs ago and I weighed 120lbs I know for a fact my 154lb body does not go in a 6 yet they fit so I take them with a smile on my face. Go to the next store and grab a size 6 dress slacks and could not get them anywhere near zipped, ended up with a size 10 and again this happens when I grab a pair of jeans. Ended up with a size 8 so inconclusion I am somewhere between a 6 and a 10 depending on what I'm buying and where I'm buying it. I just can't go by that it's too iffy but at the end of the day I still weigh 154lbs and that just seems a little more exact too me.

    Out of work

I had surgery on Thursday and returned to work on Tuesday. I had little pain, but was exhausted. I would recommend at least 7-10 days off, but everyone is different just listen to your body!
  22. its normal to go through times where you dont lose. i went 2 1/2 weeks after i lost 20pounds in one month without any loss,i think the body needs to catch up. we go through so many stages at first. i am now almost 3 months out and i can pretty much eat anything i want without any problems so i need to be careful. i know that when you get the right fill things will be different. as far as eating 250 calories you probably need more. when i was eating 800-1000 calories i didnt lose for 10 days but when i went up to 1200 calories i started to lose again. it helps to change things up once in awhile. if you eat the same thing everyday your body gets used to it. andrea

    Starting Over Again

Yeah mine requires 6 consecutive months with a nutritionist with the last 2 years which I have a year straight so that's no biggy. I am worried my insurance will deny it and how much I'll need to pay out of pocket. I know some of what they want. Will the Bariatric program tell me? I know they usually check with insurances about that stuff. Yes, they will verify what is needed and let you know and my 10/26/2016.

    Sugar Blues Part 2

To find out how to compare products to better understand added sugars, click on Natural vs. Added Sugars. Use the chart on the second page as a guide to compare products. The chart compares applesauce and Greek style yogurt. You will see the products with only naturally occurring sugars, products with added sugars and “light” versions of the product. You will also see that the product with the most amount of sugar has the most calories. The front part of the food label usually doesn’t have any clues that the product can have a lot of added sugars. You must be a detective and investigate the Nutrition Facts Label and the ingredients list. Start your sugar hunt by using foods and beverages in your pantry or fridge to discover where added sugars are lurking in your food choices. Like any hunting expedition, it will take some time and practice to find the healthiest products to use on your journey towards health. Sugar Comparison Chart We are born with a preference for sweet tastes. However, sugar carries calories without any fiber, vitamins or minerals. Sugar is basically empty calories. For bariatric patients, too much sugar can lead to dumping. Natural Sugars vs Added Sugars Naturally occurring sugars are in fruits (fructose) and milk and dairy (lactose). The current Nutrition Facts label doesn’t tell us the difference. A teaspoon of sugar = 4 grams of sugar. If you drink a 12 oz. can of regular pop or 12 ounces regular fruit juice, that means you’ve consumed 40 grams of sugar. This translates to 10 teaspoons of sugar. That’s almost 1/4 cup of sugar! Other names for sugar When you read the ingredient list, look for words like syrup (corn, high fructose, maple, pancake, maltose), corn syrup solids, agave, molasses, beet sugar, brown sugar, turbinado sugar, invert sugar, cane juice, fruit juice, fruit juice concentrate, nectar (peach, apricot, pear), powdered or confectioner’s sugar, raw sugar, maple sugar, date sugar, malted barley, honey and anything ending in “–ose” (maltose, dextrose, glucose, fructose). These are all types of sugar. When you see these words in the ingredient list, look for foods that have sugar listed after the 3rd or 4th ingredient. When you see several sugar ingredients, look at the total amount sugar. Decide if it’s worth it to eat that food. Sugar alcohols These have less impact on your blood sugars. They are more slowly digested than sugar. Sugar alcohols have anywhere from 2 to 4 calories per gram. If your weight loss stalls, check to see if your “sugar free” foods have high amounts of sugar alcohols. You may be getting more calories than you think. Caution…eating too many sugar alcohols can laxative effect! Alternative Sweeteners Artificial sweeteners include Splenda (sucralose), Sweet ‘N Low (saccharin), NutraSweet (aspartame), Sweet One (acesulfame potassium) and Neotame. Stevia is extracted from the stevia plant and is considered a natural sweetener. Monkfruit is extracted from the monkfruit and is considered a natural sweetener. Natural vs. Added Sugars: Comparison Chart How do I find the amount of added sugars in a food? One way to find out what the added sugars are is to compare similar products. Comparisons of applesauce and Greek yogurt are detailed below. The order of appearance is the unsweetened, sweetened and light or low sugar version. Use this chart to compare other products you might choose. Remember that natural sugars are in milk/dairy and fruit. Is all that sugar worth it?
  25. @@tia92 like you - @Kate_UK @Soodoo also live in the UK I "think" living in the UK, it takes a longer time to have to wait for surgery 2-3 years, "maybe" up to 10 years egads I "think" Canada has a long waiting list too other countries maybe if a person in America is waiting for surgery due to approval from insurance - it could take as long as one year, maybe 2 years i was approved in 6 months others are approved quicker, or later good luck kathy
