    Aleve...

Ok, I have read a few times that some of you take Aleve, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE STOP!! Aleve nearly cost my Brother in Law his life, I don't want to see anyone else go though what he went though. You see, he was taking aleve now and then (not a daily thing AT ALL) for minor aches and pains that kinda lasted longer then tylonal would, so Aleve it was. About two months after he started taking it (now remember he took it maybe once a week) he started bleeding profusely from his rectum. Tuns out the Aleve had worn away some of the lining in his bowels. 5 or 6 blood transfusions later the bleeding had stopped and he was stable. Sadly he has no case against aleve cause that is a listed LONG TERM side affect, not short term like his was, but LONG TERM. So no attorney would take it because it is listed as a possible long term side affect (one of the rare ones) So PLEASE switch to Tylonal, Motrin, or something else take that second dose couple hours later if your still in pain, just PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE stop taking Aleve.

    Why am I so hungry!

The plan from my surgeon was 1 week of clear liquids, 2 weeks of full liquids, 3 weeks of mushies, then on to regular food. Mine is a little extreme compared to most I've read about here. I started on full liquids 2 days early and started on mushies 3 days early. Still on mushies and won't have a fill until April 16th. My surgeon's rule for fills is 2/2/2. 2 days of clear, 2 days of full, 2 days of mushies after every fill.

    I've had a Great Day !

You know, it's been a wonderful day. Last week I found out from one of the "higher ups" that they were dropping all allegations against me at work! Thank God for witnesses!! While I am truly grateful for my job, I am still a bit pissed off that it went this far. One more meeting on Thursday and it should officially be over. Seventeen years, with 13 of it being at the same position and they treated me like dog doo. The best news is I also had my surgeon consultation today and it went great! After having to cancel my appt last month, I was happy to find out that as of yesterday, my surgeon of choice, Dr. Faulkenbery of Southwest Bariatrics, now uses the Realize Band which is what I wanted! He seemed to like their support site very much. Tomorrow I make appts for the blood work/EKG, the psych appt., the exercise appt and then the nutritional counseling. I am hoping to have it all done by the end of the month so I can have the surgery by the middle of June. And if my day couldn't get better...I didn't even get charged in the parking garage !
  5. Had my sleeve surgery one week ago and have found it all easy except the first night with nausea. Never used pain meds and the nurses didn't believe me with I said I had no pain. They still kept me two nights instead of one. Completely off Diabeties medicines which completely blows my mind. The past three weeks of liquids has been ok, I guess. I'm getting ready to start the pureed food portion and really looking forward to it. I want to have the taste of some real food in my mouth and not just broth or Protein shakes. I went back to work on this past Wednesday (half days) and my husband had taken the week off so he drove me back and forth. I found I made it through the few hours, then came home and was exhausted. My office is very supportive and there were no issues there. Next week I'm going to try driving myself and do full days. 25 lbs down (17 pre-op, 8 in one week). I've decided to only weigh myself on Fridays. Some in my office have said they can see it already. Not sure I believe it, but nice of them to say none the less. Not going to see my family until Thanksgiving. Really hoping to be at least 60+ more lbs down by then. I think that is more than attainable. I hope others who are thinking about this investigate all your options, understand the risks and all possible side effects. I had and was prepared for the worst. My story so far has been smooth, but I won't forget all the things that can still happen. I already wish I had done this years ago.

    Ready Set Go!

Keep reminding yourself of why you are doing this. This week is only a shhort part of the bg picture...but on the other hand this should be your last diet EVER! After that its just a lifestyle other than a couple of days of modified eating after a fill. NO MORE DIETS! For inspiration, if you havent already, I recommmend reading the whole blog of band_groupie from the very beginning...its very inspiring. A lot of us have done that and even gone back to it when we need to...she really keeps it real! Good luck and hang in there!

    obstructed

Did wonderfully Amanda! No complications whatsoever, went smooth as silk. Right now just going through the poor me clear liquid diet phase. Will be glad to start getting some actual nutrition tomorrow. My tummy is still tender mostly on the left (port) side and I can feel the swelling when I run my hand over it but every day it gets better and better. All in all I can't really complain being just three days post op. How are you doing????????

Do I need a defill before an op?

When I had my pannus removal, my surgeon (the band surgeon, not the PS) insisted I have my band emptied - don't ask the PS - he probably won't have an opinion on the topic unless he's acquainted with lots of band patients. My band surgeon's reasoning was that any time you have a band you are subject to PB's and vomiting and you can rip those new stitches, esp. if it's an abdominal surgery. Mine was emptied and he began refilling in just a couple of weeks. I never did lose my restriction and never did feel hungry.
  9. Did anyone go in for there first fill and not get a fill?? My nurse told me that I have 3cc residual fluids in my band from surgery already and I was 4 weeks post OP down 25lbs not hungry at all with good when I do eat. still a little nervous eating solid foods so I do protein shakes , fish, Greek yogurt and egg whites with salsa most days .. I'm sure this is completely normal just wanting to see if anyone else had this experience...

    Starving post op!

The biggest shock for me post-surgery was realizing just how powerful head hunger is. At less than a week out I considered it a victory yesterday when I was able to eat two full popsicles over the course of a whole day in addition to my sips of water. My stomach has been very adamant about telling me when I'm not ready for things or when I've had even one sip too many, so physical hunger hasn't been an issue at all. Head hunger has been an entirely different story, though. I live with a roommate but have been staying with my mother and siblings for the first week post-op, and mentally I've been staring at homemade brownies, mac and cheese, Taco Bell, etc that they eat and craving them terribly. My mind says those things look delicious and tries to remind me how much I loved them before surgery, even when my body knows it would absolutely reject even a crumb of those things immediately at this stage. But I suppose that's a big part of making this surgery successful. Those mental cravings probably aren't going to go away easily. It's a matter of separating mental hunger from physical hunger, listening to your body rather than your cravings, and making the choices that are going to lead to health rather than giving in to old habits; and those things are all easier said than done.
  11. WARNING... :rant4: Let’s see I am 8 weeks out today. I was 272 the day of the surgery and today I am 244. I know I should be happy that I'm losing weight not matter how minimal. But it finally got to me today that in 8 weeks I've only lost 28lbs! (Oh and I gained 1.2lbs this week!) I say ONLY because I've been going to the gym and eating what I'm supposed to, being good! I am so freakin sore from the gym! I knew I was going to be a slow loser because of my PCOS but I'm so afraid I won't ever hit my goal weight at this rate. I know that weight loss starts to slow down as time goes on. But what does that mean for someone like me that started off losing an average of 2lbs a week? I also know that weight alone isn't the best way to gage weight loss. Sometimes clothes fit better and weight stays the same. Well... that's not my case! (At least not enough to go down a pants size) I guess the upside would be that I'm not getting depressed and stuffing my face. Instead I'm getting pissed and need to work it off at the gym. :boxing: Sorry about the rant, just needed to vent.
  12. Actually, real-time eligibility, benefits, and deductible status will tell them that. A few weeks before surgery, my hospital called me and said, as of now, it looks like the remainder of your out-of-pocket will be around $3,300. I said, that's correct, all the other bills have been processed (I looked it up myself). And I said, I don't think there will be much, if anything else, before surgery. I offered to pay $3,000 up front, and they ended up billing me for a hundred dollars or so (can't remember the exact amount). They would much rather try to collect $100 instead of $3100.

    Why Dont I Feel Full?

Many people experience acid reflux as a "hunger" feeling. You may want to reach out to your surgeon and discuss that as a possibility. I came home from the hospital on liquid Zantac, but had to have a second medicine added (a Prevacid "solutab") a week after being advanced to soft/mushy foods, because of breakthrough acid reflux. (I also got bumped back to full liquids for an additional 3 weeks, because my surgeon felt the increased acid was an indication my baby sleeve just wasn't quite ready for more "solid" (even mushy) foods yet.) Best of luck!
  14. I had surgery on Thursday evening and I went back to work on Tuesday. I work an office job so it's not hard. One week later I was in the ER with dehydration and pneumonia In both lungs. I left the ER and went back to work the next day. I had a hard recovery due to the pneumonia and complete exhaustion. I made it to work but then went straight home to the couch. Had I not had the pneumonia I would have been fine but even with it and feeling completely miserable for 3 weeks post op, I still went back to work.
  15. Focus on letting your body heal. It may be laparoscopic but it is major surgery. You could do yourself a huge favor by just putting that scale away for a few weeks.
  16. Don’t fret, it’ll come! They fill you with loads of saline - if you feel bloated, that is why. Some people don’t really lose for a couple of weeks - others just a few days. Stick to your plan, sip sip sip, and you’ll be a loser in no time!!
  17. Had lapband on 2/19 and have been feeling great. Went in on last Friday for two week followup and doctor said everything looked great and to come back in a few weeks for first fill....yippee:thumbup:. THEN, two days later I came down with the worst stomach virus known to man. I dry heaved off and on for over 15 hours:drool:. After I recovered I thought I was ok and didn't think anymore about it. However, last night after eating dinner I got this extremely full feeling (just thinking maybe I ate too much), but when I woke up this morning I still had it. I am not in any pain just some discomfort. I am not sure if I am just sore from the extensive session of hurling or if I have done something to mess up the band. I am having no problem eating or holding any thing down so I am just not sure if I need to call the doctor. I just don't want to come across as the type of person that calls the doc everytime I sneeze wondering if I damaged my band or it slipped. Any advise would be great or knowledge that this has happened to someone else.

    Aetna Approval needed

I'm a newbie too.. just joined yesterday.. but I've been preparing for this for over 6 month now.. (although it feels like I'm been waiting all my life). I have Aetna and I followed all their requirements now I sit and wait for my coordinator to tell me she's ready to submit the request for approval. Like JDUB414 my dr. also put down all the monthly report that I did a 15 -20 minutes treadmill workout 3-4 times a week. He also but down that I was on diet pills and a low cal diet. (1500-2000) a day. What bothers me so much about Aetna is that they require you see a dietitian but they wouldn't cover the charge unless I paid my medical deductible first. ... Oh well right now I'm just preparing myself mentally for the surgery (being optimistic that they WILL approve) & reading all I can on this site to help me out!!.. good luck to you and i hope for the best !!
  19. Oh my gosh, Gibson!! You are so sweet! I think you are one of the funniest posters ever - so that is such a compliment! The blog has been a lot of fun. We only planned on doing one - for my surgeon's website. But my husband and I started having such a good time creating content and finding fun pictures - that we've actually decided to make it an actual blog - and document my journey. We taped my adjustment last week, so we'll have episode 3 up early this upcoming week. Thanks for watching it and extra special thanks for your kind words!! (Have you seen Sweeny Todd yet? I'm addicted - have even bought the soundtrack. It's a little gross - but I'm a sucker for cheesy musicals!!)

talk some sense into me please

There is no way that anyone can predict whether your band is going to slip or not because of your eating. I assume that you are eating solids earlier than your Dr instructed? Each Dr gives the eating guidelines for their patients for a reason - to help you heal, the first few weeks shouldn't be about weight loss. Your post op diet might be different to some one elses, but that doesn't mean that you should discard your because another Doc lets their patient eat solids earlier. Just because someone else is ok eating solids earlier, does not mean that you will be too. My advice is to cut out eating the solids and go back to exactly what your Doc told you should be eating at this stage. That, or give the Doc a call and see if they mind if you go onto solids early. Don't risk it, its really not worth losing your band for a few weeks of boring food consumption.

    2 weeks out

I had 3 days I did not lose weight when I changed to phase 2 of diet. I did not worry about it to much. I am now down 18 pound and am feeling great. My husband had his surgery today and is doing well. He says his stomach is growling and he is hungry. I have been getting my 60 grams of protien barely and my 64 oz of fluid. It is hard because I am not hungry and the soup is getting old. I got tired of tasting the protein powder in every thing I eat and drink so I am now having a flavored greek yogurt for breakfast with 11 g of protien an Isopure drink with 40 g of protien maybe a shake or an egg. I eat soup for lunch just for the taste. The longer I stay on the phase 2 the less I want to eat ever. I seem to be sensitive to smells as well. I am excited about the weight loss and pray my husband recovers as quickly as I have.

    Leaving Tomorrow For Mexico

Good luck with your surgery tomorrow! You'll be just fine. I had mine 2.5 weeks ago in Tijuana, with no problems! Didn't bring much with me either - just the essentials.. one thing to remember is ... don't drink the water! They had bottled water in the hotel and I was assured that the broth in the hotel restaurant was made with bottled water as well. Let us know your progress - will be sending positive thoughts your way tomorrow.

    This is weird!

I am for sure slowing down when I eat; It also takes me 10 or so minutes after I eat to feel full. I did not think I would still be so restricted after just getting the band and no fill. I can eat the hamburger patty off of a burger and I am satisfied. I have ate the bottom piece of the bun before; but that causes the ear pain; won't do that anymore. Another thing; I thought you were not supposed to be able to eat bread with the band; and I have read where people eat toast or a bagel...I can eat the bread but I think eventually it swells causing the ear pain; I did go to the Chiropractor and to get "adjusted" and my back feels alot better. Wednesday will be my 4 week anniv and I go to the Dr on Thursday for a weigh in; I have stayed away from the scale lately. Is a hamburger patty alot to eat for someone 4 weeks post op? Thanks everyone!

    This is weird!

I am eating anything I want now. I am supposed to be getting a fill this week; but I have postponed it due to our vacation at the end of this month. Good Luck on your journey!
  25. That is the recommended amount for any other weight loss program in the world. Remember dieting and wishing for 2 pounds a week...sorry it isnt more but it is going down and that is the goal....I am proud of you for all the changes you are making in your life.
