Am I doing this right am I broken?
Brittneykdelacruz replied to It'sAlbright's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I felt exactly like this for weeks, specifically physical symptoms. i could barely stand up without feeling like i would black out. i found out at my followup appointment that i had really low blood pressure. The nurse recommended that I start drinking Gatorade zero every day. one full bottle. I was on to regular soft foods like soups and mashed potatoes at that time, I also started adding salt to my foods within a few days I started feeling much better. im a couple months post op and i still think about food all the time unfortunately. Chips especially 😕 i try and eat little meals and have pretty good restriction so cant eat much but overall i feel good. Ive averaged losing 5lb a week surgery day i was 251 and now im at 208. My surgery was may 3rd you’re going to get through this. I suggest checking your blood pressure, if it’s low increase your sodium intake -
Looking for answers Nerve Damage / 1yr & 3months post op Rue & Y Gastric Bypass
KellyDVess posted a topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Hey Y’all! I am so worried about my husband! He had Rue & Y Gastric Bypass April 6th 2021 so he’s 1 year and 3 months post op and it’s been a NIGHTMARE!!! He has literally lost 200 pounds. He has always been a 220 pound man. He was diagnosed with COPD in 2017 and he was given massive amounts of steroids for all his lung trouble, which caused him to gain weight. At his heaviest he weighed 394lbs. He now weighs about 190lbs. We are both extremely proud of his Weightloss but y’all he literally CANNOT EAT ANYTHING! He THROWS EVERYTHING UP, even liquids. He constantly has abdominal pain. His Surgeon, his GI Doctor, and his GP family doctor are all stumped and none can figure out why. We found out the day of his Gastric Bypass that his stomach had twisted and flopped upwards and they thought that this was the reason for the abdominal pain and vomiting he was having before the surgery, but he’s still having severe pain and problems. Technically he didn’t have the surgery for Weightloss, he had the surgery because he was told by 2 different bariatric doctors that this was the answer to fixing his pain and nausea but they didn’t even know what the problem was and they still don’t. His Surgeon now believes that he could have a nerve problem or nerve damage and believes that is what is causing his pain and nausea. Have any of you had nerve damage that has caused you abdominal Pain, Nausea, and vomiting after your surgeries? If so, What was done for you and has it helped? Also, have any of you tried otc nausea patches from this website or any other and if so, do they work? He takes prescription nausea medicine but they do not work! I am very scared and very worried for him. He is 47 years old, his lung issues are under control but I fear for him nutritionally. He takes his supplements and he is getting IV FLUIDS (Banana Bag) every Friday but all this is really taking a toll on him physically and mentally. He is having another EGD scope to look in his stomach at the end of this month but they have done all this already and they never find anything. He does everything he’s supposed to do from having this surgery but he’s not getting any relief or any answers.. -

Am I doing this right am I broken?

The first 2 or 3 weeks post-op I was so obsessed with food I would watch tiktok videos of people cooking for literally hours every day 😂 Eventually, I stopped caring so much about food and now 7 weeks post-op I hardly think about it at all. -
Made myself feel awful.. old habits die hard
sparkly_keeks replied to Lornapc's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Before sugery I was a massive sugar addict. Then, when I was 3 weeks post-op I ate ice cream. Against the advice of my surgeon. I paid the price for that (cold sweats, racing heart, violent vomiting). Even though all that happened, I still craved ice cream and ate it again the next day. Afterward, I reflected on what I had done and I felt so ashamed and mortified with myself. But the bad feelings only made me want to comfort myself with more sugary foods. On the third day, something changed in me. I decided to just forgive myself for those 2 mistakes and move on like it was no big deal and consider it part of the learning curve. I threw all the remaining ice cream down the kitchen sink. I am now 7 weeks post-op and my sugar cravings have all but gradually faded. I decided that I will allow myself to have a small portion at the 3 months mark. But the way I am feeling now, I doubt I will do that. Forgive yourself for your mistakes. You are still unlearning a lifetime of habits and addiction and it will take some time to get the hang of it. Head addictions are powerful beasts. As long as you make the decision to try and march in the general right direction you will get there eventually. -

Dont be afraid you can only ask for help I had a sleeve in 2010 on NHS and didnt lose much at all no matter what I did so 6 yrs went by and I went to my doctor and asked could I have a revision surgery I had 2 pr ops then covid hit and in 2021 I had a bypass but the surgeon told me I wouldn't lose more than 3 to 31/2 stone here I am 110 pounds lighter I weigh less now than when I had my son 39 yrs ago so dont be scared to ask for help especially if you have health issues goog luck hope you can get it sorted -
Oh makes sense! I have major acid reflux issues now.. I know bypass is a little more invasive but really.. if their in there they might as well do it all. I really don’t want to go through 2 surgeries myself.. 🙄 You’re making the right choice. I’m going to ask the Dr this week then. Thanks for replying 😊

Big pain in one incision on day 3 post op
Juniper123 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I’m on day three from having a revision surgery to take out my lapband, fix a hiatal hernia, and have a gastric bypass. I’m doing decently except for when I try to stand up from my bed or my sofa, the big incision on the right middle of my torso hurts like crazy. Burns, stings, sharp pain — more than just “sore” like the other incisions. It takes my breath away. I’m guessing this big incision is where my surgeon took out the port from the lapband and did most of the work, since it’s the biggest and most painful one by far. I don’t remember having one incision be this painful after my two other laparoscopic surgeries (appendectomy and lap band). Anyone else have something like this post surgery where one incision is far, far more painful than the others? If so, how long until the intense pain went away for you? -
Yep, the first couple of weeks I was completely exhausted and had to take naps every day. Once I moved to purees and was able to get closer to my protein goal it started to get better. Give yourself lots of grace and hang in there!

I know it takes about 3 months for the stomach to fully heal after surgery, but am pre op so don’t know from first hand experience… follow instructions and don’t be shy at calling your surgeons nurse to find out if it’s normal

So I originally had the sleeve in 2018 with a doctor by the name of Dr Steiner in a town about an hour from home. I did well for about 3 years, went from 305lb to 212lb. Not that Im making excuses, but I work in healthcare and COVID took a huge toll on me and my health. I was working long hours and without breaks so I began snacking on anything and everything whenever I could. Of course Ive gained quite a but of weight back as I am now back at 250lb. A new bariatric office opened about 30 minutes from me and I decided to go see them to see what I needed to do about the weight regain, along with the severe GERD that I have developed. The doctor was nice but he just couldn't get anything approved with my insurance. He also did an EGD on me which showed that I had H pylori and he never treated me for it. After that I decided to go back to my original surgeon an hour away from home because they were always so nice and helpful. So Im back with the original doctor now that did my sleeve. He says I definitely need a conversion from sleeve to bypass to help with the GERD and weight regain. It was a no brainer to them. So my advice would be, dont be afraid of getting a second opinion. BUT 9/10 times the original surgeon will know more and do more for you than a new one. -
I’m good but I still lower right pain…I guess the incisions are still healing? I’m still not able to bend down fully. My surgery was on June 29. I have started pureed foods/soft foods as that is part of my week 2 plan. I had 2 oz of tilapia yesterday for lunch and dinner and experience any issues. Im just worried about the lower right stomach pain….I don’t know if it’s muscles or incisions but it hurts like crazy when I try to bend down. When will the pain go away? Thanks. Yeah, I remember i was pretty stinky (or at least stinkier than normal, lol) for a few weeks in the beginning. If i recall correctly, it came about sometime in the first month, and went away sometime in the third (not 100% sure on that though, its been over 3.5 yrs). The good news though is that it DID go away AND never came back!! Pre-op i wore deodorant every day cuz i was a sweater. After the weight loss my pits are bone dry and no longer stink, yay. I hardly ever use deodorant now. Goof Luck! ❤️

I worked with both my PCP and endocrinologist when looking into bariatrics. They were both onboard and worked together for my referral. I agree not to worry about looking like you are doctor shopping and think it’s important to understand why the other dr said no. If it’s something they don’t do - find one who does, if it’s a specific reason it could help when looking for a different practice who might be able to offer a different approach who has experience with whatever that issue is. I went through a different program at first… had my surgery date scheduled and canceled 2 weeks before my surgery because I wasn’t comfortable with the program. They didn’t seem to be listening to me, addressing my concerns - it seemed more like they were only worried about pushing me through their program and checking off the insurance boxes. I was worried about how my leaving that program to find another would look going into a new program - but i was open and honest with them explaining why I didn’t think the other program was a right fit and my situation … they were very supportive and reassuring at the new program every step of the way. Having my PCP and Endocrinologist work with me through this has been really helpful… they were both a sounding board for my concerns with my first program and helpful in getting the ball rolling when selecting a new program to work with. Good luck with everything and hope you feel better soon. Let us know how things are going. -

Hey there. I am new here and not sure about posting but I feel like I am all alone. I had surgery 10 years ago, I didn’t ever lose that much weight with it and ended up getting sick and not being able to keep up with my running which I miss more than anything. Anyway, I am 20 lbs over the weight I was before my surgery. I am always so tired and I could sleep anywhere at anytime, although the test said I didn’t have sleep apnea. My BMI is a shameful 45. I wasn’t sure who to contact so I contacted my Bariatric Doctor’s office. I am unable to go to the one that originally did my surgery. I’ve been dealing with a NP (which I really adore) that told me no to a revision, but she’s put me on phentramine and they don’t even give me energy and I never had a problem with over eating I have a problem with forgetting to eat 🙄 All of my pills I have to take now makes me sick, I feel nauseous all of the time, zero energy. I have been checked for depression (of course vitamin levels) I take those even though they make me nauseous. This dr is 3 hours a way we’ve only been able to do telemed visits. I would like another opinion but I don’t want to step on anyone’s toes and get in trouble with dr shopping or have anyone mad. I wasn’t sure if people start out with their PCP or surgeon. sorry I rambled I’m nervous and so confused! Idk where in the world to go from here. Lol thanks for listening to me.

Thanks! Just weighed in today - 6 week check up - down to 450.9!

Same! Surgery on June 6th. Lost 32lbs first two weeks. Stalled every since. I'm just still plugging away following the plan. I admit I felt a little depressed about it this morning, but I know it has to start moving again at some point when I'm only eating 600 calories Sent from my SM-G986U using BariatricPal mobile app

Update On Me (Surgery: 5/19/21)
SummerTimeGirl replied to SummerTimeGirl's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
UPDATE: It's been a while since I've been on and posted so I figured I'd so so quick. ABSOLUTELY NOTHING has changed for me!!! Still stuck at 235-ish (and have been since the end of last Oct) and can't seem to lose anymore no matter what the hell I do!! I did start Rybelsus a few months ago and made it through a month of the 3mg dose and a month through the 7mg does. Then, when my doc put me on the final dose of 14mg a few weeks ago, my insurance suddenly decided it was no longer gonna cover it!! Not sure why the allowed the other doses/months and not the new one. Doc and I are trying to appeal it (cause it costs about $1300 out of pocket a month without insurance and has no generic). Their one reason was that I was NOT a uncontrolled Type 2 Diabetic. They also said I needed to be in a weigh loss program or seeing a weight loss doctor in order to have it approved for weight loss reasons. I asked my family doc if my surgeon qualifies as that and so he sent him a messaged asking the same thing. Just wondering if it is a matter of the surgeon prescribing it vs. my family doc. Who knows. Anyway, just waiting on hearing back about that. Not even sure that will help me either. Don't know what else to do and just trying to accept the fact that I most likely will be at this weight forever. Which SUCKS!!! I wanted to get down to at least 180. I'm swimming damn near 4 hours every day or walking for at least an hour and of course depending on who, doc wise, I speak to they each have something different to say. Walk less, walk more, walk slow, walk fast, do weights, don't do weights......UUUUUgggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhh! I've tried it all. Upped water, lowered water, ate more protein, ate less protein, ate more food, ate less food, just don't know what else to do so pretty much just been living my life doing whatever. Haven't been logging my food for months but not doing anything really different food wise than I was when I was logging. Just wondered if being so strict and regimented was maybe causing the stall so I stopped but I guess that wasn't the case either. Anyway, that's that. -
Meal preppers - looking for some advice/suggestions
Starwarsandcupcakes replied to Tufflaw's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I do love me some meal prep! Things I’ve learned- individual Greek yogurts while more expensive are easier for “no spoon” days. I usually add homemade granola or a 100 calorie pack of nuts and fruit for a quick protein packed meal. cooking a protein bland for the first cook makes customized meals easier later. A beef roast in beef broth can later be made into shredded beef for tacos, BBQ beef, or korean beef bowls. I love soup! I’ll usually make a batch on my meal prep days and either put it in the fridge or freeze it. Scrambled eggs (so they’re still glossy and not rubbery- most people overcook scrambled eggs) are great to put into meal prep containers with a couple sausage links or patties and microwaved later in the week. Hard boiled eggs are another great option. Just peel and store in the fridge for up to a week. They’re good as egg salad or on salads. Use a lettuce knife- it’s a special knife made of nylon with serrated edges that cuts lettuce so it doesn’t oxidize. This keeps lettuce longer over the week after you prep it so it doesn’t get brown and yucky.
