I'm home until Thanksgiving weekend. Then I'm back in NYC for 4 weeks, then back down here for the THIRD AND FINAL PS phase on December 20th!! So exciting. Dad says the last surgery will be a breeze compared to this one. It'll be inner thighs, breast implants, and a very minor TT revision (mons lift and port replacement). Then that's IT, I'm DONE! WOOHOO!!! I'm pretty sure Dawn's talking about Disneyworld, not Disneyland because Disnewworld's 1/2 is in January. It's also supposed to be a very flat course, which is why I want to run it sometime -- easier to break personal records on a flat course. Plus, having Disney characters cheer you on at each mile marker must be a trip. I'm planning to do it in 2009. Betty, what are you thinking about your weight? Are you able to say that it's just a matter of getting a fill and you'll get it later this month, or is there more to it than that? I guess I'm just a little nervous for you. There was a time last month when I was training hard and I went from 148 to 161 from all the carbs/high point in my cycle. It only lasted a couple of days (and came back down to 152 with no effort, which is kind of a set point for me), but I was completely freaked out. I guess you're getting your fill this week, actually, so there's nothing to worry about, right? Boo, if running hurts, don't do it. No pain, no gain when pushing through a running plateau, but not when pushing through a disc injury. Do you see a sports med doc? I'm thinking we might actually be athletes who deserve specialized docs at this point. Ha!

We understand very well what a DS is, what you said is you wanted to know if someone had a VSG and a DS at the same time. Since you know so much about it you should know that the DS itself includes the VSG component, therefore someone either has a DS, or they have a VSG, they do not have "both", it's implied that the VSG is included in the DS as that is what the procedure is. You never hear someone say "I had a VSG and a DS on March 15". No, if they previously had a VSG then they had a revision to a DS. Not, as you stated "I'm asking if anyone had both at the same time, in Mexico." You're very condescending and it's really not warranted.

She says the brain and body can't function on that amount. I want to be successful and lose my regain and keep it off. Thanks for helping.

Starting to worry
RJC5197 replied to Autumn Riley Arnold's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I too had same issue and grateful for it. I just means we are not as sensitive, and need to measure and eat the right amounts to satisfy, and not eat to the full feeling. Eating to the full feeling can be very painful and not good for the pouch long term if done too often. I had a revision and to this day have never felt "Full" and can eat anything, unlike many others. The WLS is a tool only and we cannot depend on the pouch to control us, just use it the best we can. Good luck in your journey of seeing what works best for you. -
Changing My Name To ... Plateau Patty, Grrrr
4ALongerLife posted a blog entry in 4ALongerLife's Blog
So I'm playing the game that I hate. It's "up a lb, down a lb" which is followed by "up a half lb., down a half lb" in my life. Does anyone else experience this? I think I'm cursed. I swear all I see is people losing more weight and I compare myself. Then I think "hello stop your whining you durn cry baby." lol... just being honest. Here's the deal tho... I'm 10 weeks out and after receiving one of two hospital bills for my complications (I had aspriation pneumonia and a leak/abscess after my surgery, then revised surgery)... I'm just really wondering if this was worth it. Don't get me wrong, I know it was but.... if I knew then, what I knew now of my experience... would I still do it? In all undue honesty, yes, probably so. I've been fat since I was about 6 months old. Seriously, I have pix, I should scan them and post them. Not that anyone reads my posts Ok rambling, I just feel lonely in this journey and I'm a bit lost. I don't have a NUT, right now I can't afford one, my new insurance plan doesn't go into affect until June 1.... maybe I'm stuck in pity party central mode tonight, my apologies. Writing is supposed to help, heck how I used to cope isn't an option anymore (hello carbs and sweets, remember those days?). I just wish I could let the worry over all of this go. It's made me feel more anxious than ever and I was craving a big ol' cookie today, so I indulged... too much but it's logged into myfitnesspal dag nab it! But how do I cope with this? IDK... I went to the gym and that's helped some. Otherwise, I type in a journal here (which reads like a bunch of mess that no one reads, damn pity party again grrr). Who else can I talk to about this? Honestly there are very few here that I've spoken to and surely my biatching rambling session is running the rest off. Sigh.... Well SHOULD anyone read this, and IF you do pray, even if you don't know me... please say a prayer for me. I'm being super hard on myself, worrying too much and looking at a few things that are stressing me out seriously (money being the top worry). I'm attempting to fight the demons that got me in this mess with weight as it is, I don't really need more items to push me into failure - I'm struggling enough playing the up/down game enough as is, aren't I? I don't want to be "undone" after having gone through all of this..... Signed, Not the super sleever poster child of positivity ... my apologies.... Pity party is officially over on 5/19, I swear!- 7 comments

Unrealistic Weight Goal ??
Kate rules replied to pink dahlia's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Your goal weight should be whatever you and your physician agree upon as healthy. My screen name is wannabe21bmi. I've since revised this goal to wanting to be 140 pounds. That's a BMI of 24.8. I will see how I look at 140 pounds (I'm 5'3" as well) and I may go lower. When I tell people that I want to lose at least another 20 pounds they tell me I'm going to be too skinny. I tell them that's only because they are not used to seeing me skinny. My experience in life has been that people who feel good about themselves spend time building others up instead of tearing others down. Be proud of your loss and aim "low" if that is what would make you happy and healthy. -

How did you decide what WLS to have?
makemyownluck replied to GirlOnFire's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Who on here is considering lapband? lol - not true from what I've seen!! I chose sleeve over band because I didn't want to bother with fills, I didn't want a foreign object in my body, it has higher long-term complication rates and from what I've seen on this forum, many people are dissatisfied with their weight loss from the band and get a revision to the sleeve. I chose sleeve over RNY because RNY makes you sick. It makes you sick if you want to enjoy something you 'shouldn't'. It makes you sick because your body can't absorb Vitamins and minerals the same way and you suffer nutritional deficits that can be life long. And I didn't want my intestines cut up. With RNY, your stomach is still there, meaning it might NOT take your hunger away and it has a chance of stretching your pouch so that you gain weight - but still have to deal with the nutritional deficits because you can eat as much as before, but your body isn't getting the nutrients it needs from your food. It's harder to find a balance with that surgery. I chose sleeve for ME because it offers what I need: portion control! I'm 3 wks post op and I feel like I eat like I did before, as far as the size of bites. I drink the same as well, I haven't had any nausea, vomiting, food intolerance... in short, my recovery has been great. The sleeve, IMO, offers a more 'normal' post op life. Once I'm done with my stages, i can eat pretty much whatever I want, just a LOT less of it. Of course, I've made changes to what I'll eat. I'll make healthy choices more often than not, but if I want to have cake on my birthday, it won't make me violently ill (like with RNY). Plus, I wanted a permanent tool. I don't see the point (for me) in getting a band because I think the big selling point with the band is that it's "reversible", meaning you can have another uncomfortable surgery to remove the band, when I need something that will help me for the rest of my life. So between the band or the permanent surgeries, I chose something permanent. And, for me, the pros/cons of VSG vs. RNY are clearly in favor of VSG. Everyone is different and has different opinions, obviously. It's smart to check out all your options before committing to anything. Good luck! -
I agree 100%. I under went VSG in 2015 at the recommendation of my surgeon. I was initially looking into getting RNY but he stated since I was young and without children, it would be best to undergo the sleeve procedure. However, I'm 7 years post op, experience severe GERD, regained a good portion of my weight loss (my fault completely) and am now in the self pay bucket for revision as my current insurance under my employer outright refused any type of bariatric surgery. I'm not saying all this to scare anyone, I'm just saying DO WHAT IS RIGHT FOR YOU. I wish I would have put my foot down on the decision between VSG vs RNY but all and all, I did it and it is what it is. It works for some, but not for all. Unfortunately I fell into the "not for all" and it was definitely USER error. I can't speak on it, but I feel I would have had a better success rate with RNY vs VSG which is why I'm looking into the self pay option for the revision surgery. I would say to anyone looking into bariatric surgery to RESEARCH and ask a lot of questions at appointments/support groups. In the end like I said, do what is best for you. 😁

Sleeping on incisions
shriner37 replied to shriner37's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks. Yes, every day gets better. This is revision surgery for me so I've been through this with the sleeve, but it was 2015 and some of the details are a bit fuzzy in my memory. I'm a side sleeper and I think after the first surgery I was able to sleep on my side after 3-4 nights. It seems like the incision pain went away quicker this time than last, although this time the gas pains lasted longer. -
Hey all.. new to this app. Love it and all the support I see! I am on the fence and looking to see if anyone has had a revision from sleeve to bypass? Since my sleeve I have developed the worst heartburn. I had it before but not to this extent. My doctor didn’t tell me that the sleeve will make your gerd worse. It’s to the point that I eat only what doesn’t hurt. In addition to that I can’t eat anything with flour. Horrible stomach ache. I’ve been allergy tested for gluten bcus I was SURE that’s what is was but turns out I’m not. So I know enough to stay away from carbs.. bread, rice and anything with flour. Thank goodness for gluten free crackers. They are my staple. Doctor says the revision make the heartburn and pain and will repair the hernia that developed from the first surgery. I guess I just don’t know anyone who has done the bypass and if they have any complications. I’ve heard dumping could be really bad. What are the big differences in foods with the sleeve vs bypass. I heard you can’t have anything with sugar.... I’m thinking of my coffee creamer ( which i allow myself) which is not sugar free.... fruits, honey, oatmeal .... would appreciate any feedback or insight.

Thinking I might losing weight to fast
Sherbe replied to Catina B's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was 313lbs the day I had my FIRST Roux en y gastric bypass... I lost 37lbs in a little less than a month. I got down to 115lbs. Almost 3 years to the date of having my bypass, I became VERY ILL & saw my doctor who determined I had a staple line failure!!! He had to do emergency surgery and do a revision which involved cutting off my pouch and reforming a new one. This worked for a while-almost 2 years... Then one day I became VERY sick and couldn't keep any food down. I just thought maybe I had a bug. Two weeks went by and I was getting worse! Unfortunately, my original doctor retired so I had to find a new doctor that would take me as a patient & help me. Found a new doctor and sure enough I had another staple line failure!!! Had another surgery and basically he took all of my stomach out except for a tiny pouch about the size of a VERY small lime. I was in the hospital this time for 9 1/2 MONTHS!!!!!!! I had started vomiting up black bile while I was recovering in the hospital. I BECAME SEPTIC also!!!! My story has more twists & turns but I need to sleep so maybe I will come back tomorrow and post more!! Good night -
I had port revision...it was a lot easier than actual first lapband surgery. I'm glad you insurance covers it! Good luck!

One month in, feel fantastic, bees flourishing!
jaxmom posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I think my subject line says it all!!! Today marks my one month band to sleeve revision. I could not feel better. I was 177.4 on surgery day and today I'm 162.2. Yippee!!!!!!! I have about 20 more pounds to go. I know the hard part is ahead but boy, do I feel awesome. For some reason the surgery has given me an extreme burst of energy- I haven't felt this good in years. I've been working my bees and just found out they are doing so well I had to add a top box today. Yey!!! So my lovely girls are growing, I'm getting smaller, it's spring in the South and life could not be better. Just wanted to share and wish everyone a great day and best of luck with their journey. Oh!!! I should add that this weekend I'm going on a overnight kayaking trip down the Peace River to look for fossils with my 12 year old daughter. I haven't slept in a tent in over 15 years... I must be crazy. So if you don't hear from me after Monday... I have fallen prey to a gator or exhaustion. I'm telling you, this surgery has made me (crazy) superwoman. I hope it lasts!!! If I may ask - what repair to your esophagus did you have? I was diagnosed with achalasia and am revising my sleeve to a bypass as well as having a myotomy. Just curious what it was that you were treating. As far as recovery for my sleeve, I work a desk job and took 2 weeks. I was fine, physically, at about a week, but was still very tired all the time due to nutritional intake (or lack thereof) and being tired as my body healed.

Hi there! I am 2.5 months out from band to bypass and I am 62lbs down total! 270-208lbs right now. Still have long ways to go! the revision was the best decision of my life! -
6/28: I'm in control of what I can control... So very very true. I need to be revised to RNY for GERD. At first I was was shocked, then all for it, then felt like it was totally my fault but testing confirmed it was nothing i could have done to prevent it. So far im totally just rolling with it until its a reality. It feels surreal for sure. Especially doing a 2 week preop diet while being at goal 😭 but ... C'est la vie 6/29: My past doesn't define me, but helps me remember the future I'm fighting for 6/30: June has been a whirlwind for me, not necessarily bad but definitely filled with some... moments I'll never forget I truly appreciate you @Cheeseburgh for throwing an amazing party in here... the Skalender tried to kill us in the end 😭😂 🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌

Wow a week and a day and I'm approved for my revision! I had the sleeve done on 12/16/12 and I'm going for bypass on 8/18/14, due to gerd and a stretched sleeve. My weight lose was around 40 lbs with the sleeve and I've actually gained 15 of it. I started off at 239 post op, current weight 206, lowest weight since sleeve 189 (for about a day).

Able to eat almost anything
Kathy Rozas replied to carmenlw3's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had the bypass in 2003. I did not follow directions , lost only half the weight I needed to. Gained every lb back. Got disgusted and did not do anything about it until this year. They scoped me and then told me that my pouch was relatively normal but my anastomoses was dilated greater that 10 cm. That's bigger than a new born baby's head. I was able to eat everything and anything. Not large portions because of the pouch , but I became a bottomless pit. I had a revision done 3 months ago. I've lost 50 lbs and am now in a plateau. But I can shake it off. I am very careful to pay attention to how I feel when eating. I try very hard not to eat things that aren't going to injure my pouch, soft food. I know it's never too late to make fresh starts and no giving up this time. Take care of yourself as if you were your own child. Follow instructions to the best of your ability. Your body underwent great trauma to make yourself healthy. Don't damage your operation results , talk to your doctor and tell him/her what's been going on and seek instructions to help undo any damage you may have done. You have gone through a lot, way too much to get nothing for your efforts. Good luck to you and remember that You Can Not eat anything and everything. Good luck to you and also to me.
