What is a pouch test? When do I need to do one? I am 10 months post RNY and am very happy with115 lbs lost, but of course it is starting to slow down a bit, and I find myself starting to feel (or is it "think?") hungry again. I want to loose another 30 lbs and don't want to "fall off the wagon" at this point. I am still so thankful for this surgery and the drs/staff/family that are supporting me!!!! Love my new life! I want these habits to STICK, and I know that means I have to continue to WORK the program. Just needed to hear from someone out there, I haven't been on in a while. Hope all of you are well.

I had surgery April 30, 2013 and just last week began to notice more than normal hair loss. My surgeon has supplements and I'm going to order a vitamin pack called Hair, Skin, and Nails. I wish I had known about it and started taking it right after surgery.

I just found out about the lap band about a month or so ago. I've been reading like a mad woman about the procedure, the doctors, the clinics, etc. I've asked people in real life who have the surgery done and people on forums and Email groups their opinions and advice. We went to a support group meeting and met with a doc there and spoke to a bunch of WLS patients. I feel like I've got a very realistic understanding of how things are going to work Post - surgery. I have narrowed my doctor selection down to 3, well realistically 2. One of them I can get into this coming Friday. I'm thinking about going for it. Everyone I speak with says they have no regrets, that they wished the would have done it sooner, etc. etc. But do they mean this soon? I have my husband is supportive and excited. (He's going to have his done also but he's eligible for our insurance to pay for it). Amy I crazy for going for this so soon? It seems like the most amazing tool to help me with my weight loss struggle. I keep gaining and gaining every year and I'm loosing more and more control (if I ever had any) on my eating. Do any lapbanders have second thoughts or wish they would have waited?

been a while since I've posted.... last I was around, I was preparing to have gall bladder removed...turns out that wasn't the problem... no gastro problems of recent... I am 16 months post op... got to normal BMI at 10 months... am now actually under my goal... wear size 4...21 BMI...25% BF was APPROVED for panniculectomy on first submission to AETNA and was supposed to have that surgery 2 weeks ago however, GYN issue became emergent and I ended up with hysterectomy that day instead... approval good for 6 months so hopefully I will get it in the Spring... Dr says I can get it as soon as 6 weeks post-hysterectomy however I am only 2 weeks out and in a LOT of pain still so that's definitely not happening...besides I need to go back to work for about 2 or 3 months to build up some FMLA time. I have always followed my own eating/exercise path post-VSG...glad to say its still working... I eat plenty of carbs, always start with Protein...plenty of Water.... take my vits & Probiotics.... I haven't really exercised in nearly 2 months and I maintained weight during that time, even managed to get down another 3 or 4 pounds....Plastic Surgeon says for me to expect another 5 pound loss once my extra skin is removed.... I cannot believe at that point I will be struggling NOT to lose weight... MIND BLOWING!!

Post RNY - Dress size question
TakingABreak replied to nycgirl18's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I wish I could offer some better advice, but it's really hard to say. I'd say to go larger and have it altered if needed. I'm down 75lbs and I've barely moved 2 pants sizes. My belly is holding on for dear life! While my breasts, arms, and legs are reaping the rewards of surgery. Where do you carry your weight, because like me most people loose in their extremities first. So if you have a larger stomach or butt it may take awhile for those areas to show huge improvement. Thank God for Spanx! -
You know how sometimes you have a 'good hair day'. Well, today has just felt like a 'good body day' all day. The scale has not budged, but I feel skinnier. My jeans were loose when I put them on this morning and so was my shirt. It was windy and kept blowing in the wind like it is all flowy on me (not sticking to my bulges like normal). LOL After I had my kids off to school, I stopped at Ross to return a shirt I had bought that just didn't work w/the outfit I had imagined it with. I decided to do a little shopping as long as I was there and everything looked so good in the dressing room. My stomach just looks slimmer and not so bloated anymore. I got a great deal on three new tops... all a little snug so room to shrink. OK, now its time to hop on the treadmill and get my 30 minutes in!

Yesterday I packed up a whole bunch of too big clothes to donate. I didn't start out planning to do this, but was getting annoyed that everytime I go in my closet lately, I have to rummage through my closet to try to find something that doesn't look sloppy on me. I've always worn stuff (especially shirts) on the loose side so even though I haven't lost a ton of weight yet, I had a lot of stuff that was looking ridiculously large. Then, I went into my two 'Stage 1' boxes to see what I could get out of there that fits now. Let me explain... last year when I was waiting and waiting and waiting for insurance approval, a friend of mine came over and we went through ALL my old clothes. I had tons of different sizes. And, we got rid of everything that I wouldn't want to wear again. And, sorted the rest into 'Stage 1, Stage 2, and Stage 3' boxes. Stage 1 is sizes 14-18 and 1X, Stage 2 is 12-14 and XL, and Stage 3 is 10-12 and L. OK, so I went through the Stage 1 stuff and got out a few things that work now. Woohoo! Its like free clothes!!! :scared2: But, I found that I have very few t-shirts that are my current size. So, when I was out today I bought three new t-shirts. Nothing fancy, but it feels good to have some new items that fit. I wore a new t-shirt to Jazzercise yesterday and got lots of compliments on my weightloss. I think its hard for people to see it if you don't wear clothes that fit. So for any of you that are feeling like people aren't noticing or you don't feel any different, I highly recommend some t-shirt therapy. Only $10 each and made me feel great!

Nerve damage near incision site
devichan replied to Bree's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Nekobasu! I love Miyazaki. Ahem. Topic. After my C-section, I was numb from my bellybutton down for about five years. After a while, I got feeling back to about halfway between my navel and my hipline, but I still feel mostly pressure in that space. That was 16 years ago. I don't think I'll get much more back. I'm just really careful in that space, because I'm also prone to skin yeast infections there under my pannus already. -
I am also 5 weeks out, and it is so weird that the people I ate my chips, pretzels over, are really getting on my nerves. However, I am aware of it, and choose to not let it get to me. Sometimes,I feel naked without my coping tools, on which I relied on before for so many years, but a renouned sense of worth, and realization came over me, that because of my band (physically speaking) I can never overeat again, to hide the pain. Let it out there, but gently. Remember keep loving yourself, and you will always win the battle. Plus there is always someone, or something that gets under your skin. Mine, thank god is my port(ha) Cheri

Were you self pay? I was wondering if you could get insurance to cover skin issues if you were self pay if they were like similar situations as yours.

Yep!!! I'll take loose pants any day over what the scale reflects! I think it's more frustrating when your scale says you lost weight and the pants tell you a different story! Yeh!!! Your losing!!! Good work!

I also have developed some laugh lines and forehead wrinkles I did not have previously. I thought maybe it was because my 30th birthday is coming up in a few months but it must be weight loss because I've always had incredibly smooth skin. Experimenting and finding makeup that doesn't settle in my new creases was interesting. I think I've finally found one that I'm happy with. I'm not opposed to fillers but I'm not to that point yet either.

I have found my skin very dry and have been slapping on the moisturiser, what feels like all day long. I have used coconut oil on my body for a long time and my skin has always been good but my skin on my body is very dry and itchy since surgery. I hope it gets easier as I'm not this high maintenance usually I am 54 and had Botox twice and wouldn't be adverse to having it again or to try fillers too.

I'm 14 days out and my skin all over is wicked dry. Like I scratch it and get a rash it. Is so dry. This everywhere, legs, arms etc. is this from my nutrients change? Has anyone else experienced this post op? Did you find a solution? Thanks!

So I'm officially 18 lbs down today and thought I'd throw some non-scale victories out there. The numbers are important to me, but never as important as what I can do with my new body. Here are just a few of the cool things I've experienced so far... walking upstairs is easier. I live in a 2nd story apartment and huff and puff just a little less when coming home. Also my knees hurt less when I walk downstairs. arms now lay against my sides. This is a crazy one. I have HUGE upper arms, like a freakin' 49er linebacker. Alright, maybe an exaggeration but you get my drift. With all the fat between my upper arms, breasts and midsection they never layed flat by my side when I stood up straight. This is now not the case. My favorite blouses look better on me. I brought this blouse down to Mexico with me for my surgery. Turned out I didn't have to wear it becuase I had enough clothes and basically hung around the hotel the entire time. But took it out last week to wear and it looked terrific! This is a shirt I bought when I was 190 lbs, but it didn't look good when I'd gotten back to 235 lbs. Now it looks awesome and I can start wearing it out again! hubby is all frisky now. He's really noticed the weight come off. He says I have a waist again and it's really sexy. I catch him staring at me sometimes and it's actually kind of freaky, but very cool. I have to get used to it again. :-) He bought me a fantastic bracelet to Celebrate 21 days of bandsterville. He's so proud of me for having the courage to do it. Once Aunt Flo goes home, I've got something for him as well. ;-D My fave pajama pants are helluv loose. They practically fall off of me now. It's just a cool thing I've noticed. :-) can sit with knee against my chest. I like sitting with my knees against my chest but my stomach has always been too fat. Now that it's going down in size I can do it. I have a long way to go before its completely comfortable though. But happy so far!

I haven't posted in a couple of weeks, things are hectic here at home, wife was hired for her new job and she is starting her career, halfway point to get her Masters, she will have it in September 2016, and I've given a months notice at work, my last day is December 31st, and I become a full time dad, we went on our first Christmas vacation ever to celebrate and ended up splurging on my wife to get all her work clothes, she wanted to treat me to a night out but when I saw her I was very nervous, it was like when we first met, she looked beautiful, and she hadn't seen me in my new clothes yet, I started this journey in January @ 388lbs, my surgery was on June 10th and I weighed 342.2lbs, my Surgerversity was on December 10th, and on the 12th I weighed 267lbs, I used to be a size 60w, my new pants were a size 48w and my shirt was a 3x( now a 2x since it was loose) the pic where I'm holding our baby I was 367lbs and all subsequent pics were between 350-388lbs, so was it worth it ???? Hell yes, my other pic is my wife in her new clothes and me @ my current weight, I can see and feel a tremendous difference and it makes me wanna work even harder.......

It may sound weird, I've read Crisco shortening works amazingly! It's hypoallergenic, and absorbs very well. This is just a thought. I have actually used it for my dry skin, and it work great!

Hi, I'm sorry but I have to respectfully disagree that one must eat only "healthy" foods with the band. I myself do eat smaller portions of what I was eating before, which was a varied diet of healthy and some "unhealthy" foods and I have lost nearly two pounds a week for the last six months for a total of 45 pounds down. Of course bandsters can't gorge on ice cream and milkshakes and chocolate all day long and still lose weight, but I enjoy all foods and do not eliminate any food at all. I eat pizza, hot dogs, chips, fries, everything. I also eat fish, whole grains, vegetables, Beans, and fruits. Everything I eat is in a very small portion and I don't second guess what I eat, only how much. Everyone is different but for me, I don't eliminate anything. The only thing I would say is if you eat huge amounts of ice cream or chocolate or other soft sweets (mousse, cheesecake, etc) and you don't think you can ever stop, then the band is not for you. It's really easy to drink milkshakes or eat a 1,200-calorie piece of cheesecake (yes, Cheesecake Factory cheesecake contains an average of 1,000-1,200 calories per slice!!!) with the band. That being said, I have still enjoyed ice cream and dessert in limited amounts since I got my band but I'm able to limit it because my sugar craving post-surgery is greatly reduced. As for band vs. bypass, I agree with all the other reasons listed such as adjustability, less hanging skin, greatly reduced death rate during surgery (1 in 2,500 as opposed to 1 in 100 for GB), no malabsorbtion, no need for supplements the rest of your life, etc.

Hey!!! I had my surgery on 7/15 date of surgery I was 253, and as of today I am 198, total loss 55 pounds. I just hit my 3 month mark about 2 weeks ago and like clockwork I am loosing hair. I have ALOT of hair and it's very thick so it's not noticeable to anyone but me but I'm noticing more hair in the front is coming out than in the back and I am definently seeing some bald spots. Also I've noticed my hair texture has changed? When I use to wash it, it would feel silky and soft and now it's coarse and tangley. What do u do when there is hair loss is it a good idea to cut your hair? My hair is long almost to my lower back. Would appreciate the input

Mine is squishy - its my version of excess skin. I am so wonderfully lucky to have undertaken this journey in my late 30's after having had 3 babies and not be left with hanging skin. but I dont. When I stand up, my belly looks completely flat, so clothed and in anything but a bikini (which I'm not planning on wearing), its jsut fine, fitted tshirts, everything. But its very doughy, that's exactly the right word. The skin just does not have the tone it had 25 years ago, but boy, that's aging, life, etc. There's nothing hard about my belly and it flops unattractively when I lie on my side. I am 32kg lighter than I once was, there's bound to be some effect of that. I think I'd be a candidate for a mini tummy tuck, but to be honest, I'm 40 in 7 months time, I look a darn site better than a lot of my peers, I'm not looking to be the world's next supermodel, I'm not coverered in stretch marks and a belly that flaps in the breeze, so I consider myself pretty lucky. I dont care about it enough to undergo surgery.

Started adding more protein in now via whey protein shakes but having a bit of diarrhea. Should I stick to clear proteins? Nutritionist recommended maybe lactaid milk instead of skin plus. Could be just stomach adjusting? Ugh. Very frustrating. I hate GI issues too.

Hello Everyone, I have just started the process to get banded. I just met with my Primary Doctor yesturday to get the "yes" from him as my insurance told me that is my first step! I just faxed over his referral to our insurance and hopefully soon will find out if I can get it done. I am really ready to have it done because my husband and I have been trying to get pregnant for 3 years with no luck. I have Polycystic Ovary Syndrome and do not ovulate. My RE told me once I loose weight I should be able to ovulate and become pregnant! I do want to be healthy and loose weight but right now all I can think of is possibly having a baby soon. Well just wanted to share my introduction. Can't wait to meet and learn about lap band through all of you. - Jessica Does anyone have any information with United Health Care? How was your experince with them been for you?

Why did you opt lapband instead of RNY
sweethot143 replied to AMB's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
i chose the lapband because of the lower risk of complications, the fact the people don't die from it, that was a plus. The recovery time is amazing. It's cheaper, reversable if there happens to be a complication. If there is a complication I can always be rebanded. The success rates are about the same long term. the weight is slower to come off, but that just means less skin to pay to have removed later.
