    No weight loss

Even though I had surgery before you2/4/19... I lost 25 lbs between my March 21st check up and yesterday.. with a few days when the scale showed a gain here and there and a few stalls... do t beat yourself up!!! You got this !!! You are doing well..
  3. So as most of you know I had me sleeve done 3-20-19. This was the best decision I made for myself. Since my surgery I have only lost 25 lbs. I have been doing everything they have asked, just can't lose it. I work out, get my protein and water. I'm not gaining just don't know what else to do. I'm so scary this will not work for me after I went through a year and a half working for it. The one day of the week that I don't go to the gym I feel guilty about it At first I was thinking this is a stall but come on I'm in week 9. I just don't know what to do anymore, hoping this wasn't a waste of time. Sent from my Moto E (4) using BariatricPal mobile app

    Too fat for a bypass

Elcee undoubtedly so, except open surgery has its inherent risks. Wounds heal slower, more risk of infection, incision break down, my own daddy ended up with a ventral hernia post another type of abdominal surgery, strangely my daughter the R.D. did also. RD was able to have hers repaired maybe 10 years later, lost her navel and a lot of broken- down stretched out skin, forbidden to ever gain weight again. Ugly then, not all that gorgeous now, Daddy died with his at 80 unrepaired, ugly, begged him NEVER go shirtless, it upsets your grandsons(and me too) to see IT! Was told in case of any cat accident, roll to floorboards, curl into fetal ball and pray Our GOD allows YOU to live. And although I do have an right paramedian scar from open appendectomy/gall bladder removal nearly 35 years ago (February 1984) , my flabby belly was beautifully laprascopic RNY SEPTEMBER 5th. True recounting, told Dr Needleman at our July 2018 chat I would prefer an Open incision to no surgery. He drew back, said " Do you KNOW how long it takes an Open Incision to heal? Flipped up my T-Shirt, flashed him my belly, and he laughed ruefully " Okay, Point Taken! I'll enter it into My Notes!" And I have the prettiest 7 incisions you ever saw, they're fading into the train wreck of abdominal stretch marks I have, but if YOU look close, HE DID BEAUTIFUL WORK! Sorry about all of you with the rest ' cause I think I got the BEST! And as long as each one of us feels THAT Way about Theirs. The world🌏 will turn smoothly!
  5. Hi! I'm so glad you decided to go with Dr Garcia! He really was wonderful and the whole thing was a good experience! No regrets!! I'm 13 days postop and I went back to work today. I have some weakness and fatigue but so far no other issues! Angel Surgery date 10/21/16
  6. My doctor set the goal for 135 to 145 for me. I just kept working out and eating and I eventually landed at 116. At the time I was trying to conceive baby number 2 and doctor wanted me to gain 10 to 15 pounds. So, I did. Gained 30 pounds during pregnancy and only lost 10 of those before finding out I am pregnant with baby 3. Doctor thinks I need to stay around 140 to 150 for my body to be "happy". I am 145 now and 17 weeks pregnant so I will definitely gain some more but hope to be back down to 130 or 135 by my birthday next year.
  7. Starting out I wanted to at least be the avg loss which put me in the 220s. Anything beyond that was way to hard for my brain to wrap around. Once there then it was can I get into straight sizes and under 200. I’m now in theory 20 lbs to the not overweight per BMI chart. At 185 my team and I are so happy that our goal has changed from a pure weight number to a fat to muscle percentage that will likely put me over a bit in the 170s... I’m consistently in 12/10s and mediums. At this point it’s going to be where can I land that is where I look/ feel healthy and maintain it.
  8. I chose my initial goal as the high end of normal BMI; then I got down to my weight in college when I was an NCAA athlete; and now I’m at the low end of normal BMI but am not worried about it as my labs are great, I feel wonderful, and my docs aren’t concerned. I’m only 19 months post-gastric bypass so there’s room for bounce back and still be within normal BMI range. My horrible joint issues, especially knee pain, is sooooo much better at a lower weight that I don’t want to regain too much as that could lead to less mobility and early total knee replacement (bilaterally).

    Stall

I was sleeved on 3/31, lost about 13 lbs. within about 8 days and now have not lost a lb. in about 10 days. It does get discouraging, but from what everyone else said it will pass....hopefully sooner rather than later Sent from my SM-N920V using BariatricPal mobile app
  10. As of today, I am down 120 lbs. from my highest weight. My HW was 374 when I had my first appointment with a new endocrinologist in July 2019. My A1C was creeping up again and I was put on Victoza. I made a conscious effort beginning at that point, to maximize the weight loss side effect of the medication. I lost about 60 lbs. by the end of the year. In January 2020, my insurance began to cover WLS. I had my first appointment that month. The process of classes, doctor visits and supervised weight loss was going to take a minimum of 6 months. The insurance and program mandated everything was done through program providers. There was no option to see my local doctor or dietician. Covid slowed down my progression and I also made the choice not to rush to surgery when it first became available again. By the fall, I was ready to proceed. I managed to not gain a tremendous amount back (about 8-10 lbs.) but wanted to stop the trend. I decided to schedule surgery for right before the holidays so I could minimize the time off from work for recovery. I weighed 325 on the day of surgery on 12/14/20. Today, I am 254. Surgery was relatively easy for me. I had post-op discomfort, but no pain. I was able to tolerate and progress through food stages as expected. I’ve not been hungry or overly full since surgery. I do experience old, bad habits trying to creep in at times. I know that is always going to be the case. Surgery did not eliminate my want for food nor the thought of how nice it would be to eat large quantities again. That will also be an on-going battle. The hardest daily thing for me is not to eat and drink at the same time and then to wait until time has passed before I drink again. Eating slowly and thoroughly chewing has been a challenge (with sometimes painful reminders) but I am gradually getting more mindful. I feel better than I have in years. I don’t remember the last time I weighed 250. I would like to get to 180 but don’t know if that is achievable or realistic to maintain. We’ll see. I’m tall so that weight would put me just slightly over normal weight. I recently had 3 month labs run. Everything was normal and my T2 diabetes is currently in remission. I stopped all diabetes meds the day of surgery. The pressure was lowered on my CPAP but there is still a need for it. I’m not done. Even if I never lost another pound, I’m happy with the changes and the regaining of health. One of my primary motivators was the desire to not lose mobility. I’m fortunate that I’ve never had any issues with mobility but I could see the writing on the wall if I stayed the way I was or continued to gain. I did not want to have to participate in any of the pre-surgery preparation. I just wanted to have surgery and be done. I thought I knew all there was to know. And while I did know a lot going in, I really did learn things and have benefitted from listening and following the plan provided. I did not want to weigh, measure or track my food. But I did (and continue to) and it’s paying off. I’m troubled sometimes by questions that I read on this board and it leads me to wonder about the quality (or lack of) preparation that other programs offer. It makes me grateful that for once, I listened and learned. What I take away from this board is the wisdom and experience of others who are going through the WLS process now and those veterans who share strategies that have helped. I try remember that everyone’s experiences are slightly different but I still look for common themes (same process I use when I read vacation/resort reviews).

Please don't let negative people destroy your healthy intentions! I am 64 with 10 Grandkids and wish I would not of waited this long! I am only 2 1/2 weeks post op from my By pass... Not as bad as I feared but I now only take 20 units of insulin instead of 340! ( type 1 ) off BP meds ( had triple by pass in 2010) and GERD so intense that it damaged my left lung( chronic cough) Rheumatoid issues and knee surgeries.. What else did I need to deal with before I found my treatment plan? I am now doing and feeling soooo much better as these health issues disappear and this with only losing 26#.. Can't imagine when I have the last 65 off! Do what you need to do for yourself! I walked away immediately from ANYONE that dared to say things like your hearing!! Don't they know that only lays guilt on you? I just said " thanks for your caring concerns" and under my breathe said " a.. Hole". Keep us updated! Don't read blogs about rare complications until your past the chance.. Not to negate the need to know the risk but this is very rare! It could of scared me into just returning to weight watchers for the millionth time! ;-(. Dyan from Ohio

    1st July Sleevers

I am scheduled for tomorrow, July 1 as well. I am petrified. I am so emotional over the last week. I have done all the prep work including intense therapy and still nervous. I am not even sure what I am most nervous about. Any tips on how to calm down before tomorrow am? I pampered myself all weekend it helped but now it's Monday. On a good note, I am wearing a skirt I haven't worn in months because I lost 10 pounds from my two weeks of the pre-op diet.

    protein bars?

I don't like a lot of the Protein bars because they are so heavy. It gets old chewing on those darn things. One that i have found that I can tolerate is the PowerCrunch bars. They are light and pretty yummy as far as protein bars go. They have wafers in them - kind of like an old school nutty buddy does. The mint one is almost like eating a thin mint cookie. One bar of the chocolate mint has 205 calories, 10 grams of carbs, 13 grams of fat, 5 grams of sugar and 13 grams of protein. They are a great Meal Replacement when you are out and on the go.

    1st Annual Bandstock Update

Great news, We have a nice hall secured to hold the first Bandstock. The date is June 25th in the City of Sterling Heights, Michigan. I called hotels in the area they wanted us out by 4:00 pm. (I think not!!) Bandsters what to party. I work in Skilled Trades for Ford Motor Co., the Local UAW hall is a beautiful facility, it will hold 180 people with a band and a dance floor. Nice kitchen and bar. (it ours from 8am to midnight) I have had contact with Gregg (nice guy) and here's what we have come up with so far..Gregg and I will split the cost of the hall rental. We were thinking seminar from 1pm or 2pm. I have gotten committments from a couple of speakers and Gregg is working on some interesting guest speakers. It should be good.. Then at 5 or 6..a catered dinner, after which the party will begin 7? A live band to entertain us, after all it is called Bandstock. We were thinking of charging a nominal fee, say 10 or 20 dollars (per person) to cover the cost of the food and the band. The drinks would be "BYOB", or it would have to be MUCH more expensive. There are many nice hotels in the surrounding area and we will work something out so no one drinks and drives. So, let's have a great day and Celebrate..Let's enjoy meeting and make this something special.... Lyle

  19. So I just wanted some of your options. I have been told at month 9, 10 ish post op rny by my new city's nut that I was eating to much for where I'm at. I was eating about 1 c , a lil more maybe at each meal. It was divided between meat and veg , mostly meat of course. So anyways my breakfast this morning was the following: measured 3.20 Oz of chicken, about 1/4 of a medium apple and about 3 tbls of peanut butter. I was full and normally I don't eat this kind of meal. Normally I don't measure but i wanted to start new because I have fell off the wagon with the holidays and I'm trying to start fresh. Typically I eat 1 egg and 3 pieces of turkey bacon and I'm good. But I'm feeling super guilty about this peanut butter. I seriously love peanut butter and I think I had at least 2 servings maybe 3 this morning which is 200 each. Is this excessive or am I being obsessive? Should I just stick to my typical breakky?

    SASI bypass

Hey friend… yes, I saw she was last logged on in 2019. So I’m keeping my fingers crossed! Stranger things have happened you know…. It’s a newer procedure from what I gather, only 3 places can do it in the US of A. It’s out patient so less recovery time. Have you had any of the procedures done?
  21. So what are the symptoms of a leak? Last night I was eating about 3 ozs of roast beef and started on a small serving of squash when I started having pretty bad pain and the urge to throw up. It passed in about 10 minutes and I felt queasy for a while. Today my stomach hurts a bit, like a mild stomach ache. I managed to down a Boost! for Breakfast and 1/2 can Soup for lunch. I suspect I DON'T have a leak but it started me wondering, what would I feel if I DID have one?
  22. I too will be on a liquid starting Monday for 2 weeks. I look forward to the challenge! I have friends who have lost 30 lbs in 1 month and they all did the 2 weeks liquid diet. They are so focused and the motivation they give is AWESOME! They have pep in there step and there are no sad faces due to the strenous diets that are now on. Imagine...every week you drop 4 - 5 lbs! Yes..give me liquids. One of my friends has lost 120 lbs..no sagging skin, and oh my goodness she looks GREAT! The only down size is ...SHE SHOPS LIKE CRAZY AND HAD TO GET A 2ND JOB TO SUPPORT HER HABIT ! Hey...I even bought her a suite..size 10..wonderful. Best of luck! bfyne...

    Plateau!

Are you measuring and logging your food? If not, you might find it helpful to start. There's no way to know for sure where (or if) you're off track unless you can look back at a week and analyze it. If you are already a logger, how many calories and carb grams are you eating per day typically? And are you certain you are continuing to drink the recommended 64 oz. of Water per day? I'm 10 months out as well and I find myself getting lax in that department. But it is really important.

    Complications

Not to take away from the original post, but my program considers bariatric surgery elective as do those from everyone I've spoken to about it at both of the support groups I attend. Regardless of the classification, my insurance covered part of the cost, though I had to pay a great deal out of pocket. All of that said, I'd do it again in a heartbeat, regardless of cost. After getting to the point I am so far (still 19 pounds from my goal) I've been given a new lease on life and even if I were forced to pay hundreds of thousands (instead of just tens) I'd do it again without question. It took me a little longer than SugarFreeMe to get from Obese to Overweight, but then again I started my journey at almost double her weight. I'll never get into the "healthy" category according to the BMI calculators, but without a doubt I definitely feel and act healthy. I'm now able to do many physical things I would never have been able to dream of the last 15 years.
  25. I'm looking for some feedback on extreme bloating. I had my band inserted July 10/13 and I think my first few days of recovery were pretty normal but the last week or so I have had extreme pain from bloating. So much so that it has actually woken me up from deep sleep. I experience deep burning pain in the pit of my stomach and so much bloating that my stomach is actually distended. I look pregnant at times! It seems to clear up after about an hour with Tums but its so painful and my stomach gets so big. Has anyone else experienced this? When can I expect it to go away?
