    Im APPROVED

Great news Melanie!! CONGRATULATIONS! Wow, $ 20 per visit is cheap! Ask them to send that to you in writing! You must have really great insurance! Mine sucks, so I decided to self-pay and had my surgery last week 10/10. Slowly but surely I'm feeling better. Where in TX do you live? And who's your Dr? sorry if I missed this info before, I'm a bit behind on reading posts lately. All the best,

    Finally Banded :)

I also had a hard time in the beginning with the Water. The PA suggested adding in some crystal lite. My problem was not only desire, but taste too. I also had popscicles that helped. Each day will get a bit better. After 3 weeks I am now just up to about 20 oz and they are fine with this. She said some people it takes a few months. Feel better soon!

    Am I Slow Loser

I must be the slowest loser anywhere. I had surgery on 11/21 st 293, got down to 282 during the liquid diet and then rebounded back to 285. At that poi t I contacted the nutritionist at my surgeons office. She had me eat a "balanced" meal. I wasn't even able to fnish it and got to 292 within a week. I went back to sleeve diet and am now back to 285. That is 8lbs in 2 months. The only car s I get are from veggies. The nutritionist said it is time to see an endocrinologist. I have an Ppt with my family doc in 2 weeks to get a referral . The only thing that I can understand that is holding me back is the drugs I take for bipolar disorder I take two different antipsychotics, anti seizure, antianxiety and antidepressant . Yes this is a lot of drugs. Before I found this med combination I was on social security disability for 6 years. So, I can't go off of them. Anyone else have a similar problem? It is very frustrating .

Want to get it right the first time.

I had my first fill today (1cc). I can already tell that there is no restriction...and there wasn't any after surgery either. Fortunately my doctor allows fills every week until you get to that "sweet spot." So I've already scheduled mine. Lori

    Fill anxieties

Bobby, I'm right there with you! I haven't been able to eat any solids and really struggle with liquids. I have lost 13.3 pounds in less than a week! I am happy about the loss (finally), but I sure wish this fill would loosen up a bit.

    2 months out

@@pattyoj 60lbs in 2 months is not a slow loss - that's a pretty good rate. Get all your protein, water and vitamins - exercise and you should lose again soon. It's normal to have stalls.
  11. MUFFINGAL...please let me know how you are doing and what they are finding as the cause of this sensation in your throat. Im two weeks from being banded and gosh im soo worried that something like that will happen to me. Let us know if and how it gets better?

    1st fill

Sometimes it takes 2 to 3 weeks for a fill to realize its potential. Be patient it'll come.
  13. Hi Lisa, I have taken Prilosec OTC every morning for years and have since being sleeved. I just started mushies 2 days ago and am learning what my new stomach will handle and what it won't. For me, being on the 2 week liquid post-op diet is much easier than it has been trying to learn the limits of actual food consumption. The sleeve restriction has now kicked in for sure! I do feel bloated, burpy (not a word, I know) and sick to my stomach. One thing I've noticed is that if I go too long between eating times, I feel much worse when I actually do have food. Sometimes I feel like I have something stuck in my throat or chest. My first day back to work was today and I got so busy that I forgot to eat or drink. Tonight, I ate what I thought was a small portion of cottage cheese and tuna salad AND boy have I felt bad ever since. I will try to do better tomorrow and hopefully eating and drinking on schedule will make it better. Please update us so we can learn from you too. Thanks for your post! I actually got on here to see if anyone else was feeling like this.
  14. I responded to you on OH, so I'll just copy and paste One thing to add though. Before buying them, look on eBay and Craigslist. They usually sell pretty cheap! I live by the Beachbody programs! I have never done Insanity, but I do have the DVDs; maybe I'll do them one day, lol. I have done P90X, I'm on week 8 now, and loving it. Unless you're looking to add some muscle tone, I'd stick to Insanity, though before doing either one of them I would do a less-high intensity program. I started off with P90, did P90M, and now P90X. A lot of people say that these programs are for "super fit people" when really, they aren't. There's a girl on YouTube that lost a good 100lbs+ doing P90X (I believe her name is CoutureSlimdown), and she started off by only doing half of the video for each day. It's all about building up your strength and endurance and by the end of the 90 days, you'll see a difference physically and mentally. I say go for it but maybe start a bit lighater. Check out P90M and TurboJam before jumping into X and Insanity.

    A word of encouragement!

Good post! I was banded on 1/10/08, and within 2 weeks, I lost 17 #. Once I started introducing soft foods to my diet, I have lost only 1 # in 10 days! And that includes adding in my minimal exercise this week. It is is frustrating, because I feel like I have hardly any restriction, and I don't get a fill until the end of February. I need to be happy just maintaning my weight loss until my first fill.
  16. Here's my "knees and WLS testimony." I had WLS at 68 years of age. My knees were a complete mess -- especially the right one. The most I could bend them was a 45 degree angle. For years, my knee x-rays looked like gravel bars -- full of stuff that had shredded off the cartilage and mineral deposits that had accreted around those bits and pieces making them even larger. And yes, I had very bad knee pain when I was heavier and had suffered for years. Sometimes the pain was so bad I even had to use a cane. I'd discussed knee replacement surgery with my PCP, but hadn't gotten to the point of scheduling it. But I knew it was in my future. Then I had WLS at 235.6 pounds. I set my weight goal at 150 pounds, which I hadn't weighed in 40 years! At 5'5" a normal BMI for me started at 149 pounds. I didn't care -- 150 pounds seemed like a nice round number. BTW, I stopped taking Aleve and all other NSAIDs a few months prior to WLS. Yes, my knees hurt, but a few weeks after stopping the NSAID I realized they didn't hurt anymore than they had on the Aleve. Fascinating, eh? Eventually, 8.5 months after surgery, my scales rolled down to 150 pounds. I was at goal. By that point, needless to say, my knees felt a lot better. I wasn't doing black diamond runs, but I was walking up to 5 miles a day -- and fast. They still didn't bend anymore than they had before, but they were a lot more functional. One of my health goals for that first year post-op was to be able to walk up and down my front steps without holding on to anything, a goal I blew right by! I no longer felt like an old lady. So at 150 pounds I upped my calories to 1700 and started to maintain. But I slowly, slowly kept losing weight -- 1 or 2 pounds a month for the next 8 months. Eventually, my body stopped losing weight at 135 pounds. IT WAS THOSE LAST 15 POUNDS I LOST THAT MADE THE GREATEST DIFFERENCE IN MY KNEES! No, they still don't bend anymore than they once did. But at 70 years of age I am working hard (in yoga) on increasing my flexibility. My PCP told me to take knee surgery off the agenda completely -- I don't need it anymore. I can walk as far as I want and as long as it's still light outside. I can even jog a little. Not saying anyone else would or could have this result. But this was mine. It is one of my greatest NSVs from WLS.
  17. Make sure your house is ready. Meaning you have water, protein powder or already made protein shakes available. Also the first week you can have Popsicles and jello so buy some of those. It helped having everything I need because you don't want to start off unprepared.

    Fat Guacamole Devils

Can't wait to try...I made some guacamole this week with half an avocado, some greek yogurt, avocado seasoning (sprinkle from a packet I had), and some lime juice. Ate with brown rice crackers from Archer Farms (Target brand). Divine.

    Literally crying right now

I did not start getting much restriction until about 6 weeks out. I felt the same way as you like "is this surgery even working?????!!!!!". The only thing that helped me was I had zero hunger (I still do not have it, actually) so I was pushing myself to eat and could easily stop because I wasn't hungry to begin with. Once your nerves heal more, you'll feel that restriction. Be careful not to overdo it now though or you'll end up getting sick or having dumping syndrome. I do think what you're experiencing is normal though.

    3rd day post op

I am three months out. Yes, you should be having liquids first week or so including protein shakes, water, jello, apple sauce, tea, chicken broth. You will lose a lot of muscle mass along with fat in the first couple of weeks. it is important to keep protein up.

    Week one Post op diet

Anyone else on week one? I had my surgery last Tuesday and so tired of broth and jello. I’m so ready to move to the protein shakes, thicker soups, etc. I’m not hungry, but I do get a feeling like I should eat at regular meal times. I get thirsty as well in between. TMI but I have to run to the bathroom every time I have my broth. I’m an instant processor. I’m a little worried about going back to work on Monday and having that problem at lunch.

    Week one Post op diet

They gave me broth, popsicles, & a protein shake while I was still in the hospital. The first week I was running to the restroom also, but it has slowed down now. I'm 2 weeks Post-Op.

    Newbi

I'm scheduled for 8/12 with Dr. Illan and paid the $500 down through my Wells Fargo account. I'll do the same with the remainder the week before surgery. My wife was initially worried about going to Mexico for surgery, but knows now these are highly skilled people and this is what they do day in and day out. Good luck!
  24. hi there, Need some advice/guidance/suggestions from fellow bandsters. I will be 7 weeks post op tomorrow. I lost about 8 pounds during the liquid post op phase and have only lost 2 more pounds since. I've had two fills so far and both of them don't seem to provide me much restriction. The most recent one was 8 days ago. I think I have about 4cc's total. I called again this morning to make another appointment as yesterday as I ate a hamburger - bread and all - with no problem I realized this just can't be adequate restriction (can it?). And I want to start losing weight! Soon after making my appt for this Saturday, my husband and I went out to lunch at Sharky's. I was good and got a power (protein) plate..thinking it was a healthier choice. I had only had an nonfat iced blended coffee this morning so this was my first "meal" of the day. I took small bites...but suddenly, I got pain in my chest. It was my second stuck episode and I was in public. Worse, there was only a single bathroom so I could not wait it out without drawing serious attention to myself. I quickly left the restaurant and spent nearly the next 45 minutes PB'ing in a cup next to poor DH in his car, during my work lunch hour. I must of PB'd 8-10 times before I felt better. My first stuck episode was in the AM, 3 weeks post op...I had bread. I think I deserved it, or at least is was explainable. But the small bites of steak (which I have regularly)? So what I am wondering is how can I feel no restriction, eat a burger, and then get stuck on a little bite of meat the very next day. After being stuck, I wanted to drive straight to the ER and remove my band. And now I feel fine, apprehensive to eat, but I keep burping the taste of the whole stuck episode. I never want to experience it again but sadly, I think that it's eminent. ..right? Please please share with me your tricks, if you have any, to: 1. Avoid getting stuck 2. Recognizing when you are stuck 3. Making the pain more bearable 4. Tricks/tips to make an episode pass faster? 5. Do you pros still get stuck? 6. Do you taste the PB for the rest of the day? 7. How many fills did you have before you felt good restriction? 8. Does getting stuck mean I do have adequate restriction?? I sure hope not cuz my scale isn't moving much... 9. Should I now not get a fill? I felt restriction during the 2 days liquids and then once I introduced food again, it was like GONE. Sorry for my rant/raving/ and multiple questions. Any advice and tips would be appreciated.
  25. Ok.. A little background During my first unplanned, later in life pregnancy (I was about to turn 40, back in 2013) this particular nurse practitioner suggested that I terminate the pregnancy. I was floored. I'm am a married woman in a stable relationship and this suggestion was way out of line. Unfortunately this pregnancy did not turn out good and we lost the baby. I should've run then but I didn't. In 2014 I found myself expecting again.. Shocker because I have PCOS and in the 20 years of marriage at the time I had only ovulated a couple of times. We never used protection. Which wasn't our best plan, I know.. I was getting excited, we made it past the first few weeks. But Sadly this also did not turn out well and we lost another baby. At my follow up appointment this same nurse practitioner was rude yet again..in her manner of suggesting permanent birth control do to my weight and age. I love my doctor..she is wonderful, her beside manner was the best during my difficult trials. Id hate to leave the practice but today was just another dig. It's been a few years since I've been to the Drs. Since my last miscarriage. So I didn't think much about who I saw. That is until she walked into the room and all these emotions came flooding back. Of course you have to update your medical records. This included my surgery. She saw the scars during my exam so there wasn't any hiding it. It was her comments about my weight loss that really ticked me off today. "So you're BMI is coming down. That's good but you have more to go". I'm not looking for a pat on the back from medical professionals but I've lost almost 60 freaking pounds since I last saw her and my more to go is 25 lbs. If I stay I'm definitely requesting to see my Dr and not this Nurse practitioner. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
