  1. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-7327101/Weight-loss-jab-dubbed-exciting-obesity-treatment-helps-patients-lose-10lbs-month.html Thoughts? Yes, I know the DailyMail is not exactly prime news source... but just for the basic overview. Maybe would be good for those with some weight regain later on post-op or in lieu of revision. I wonder how long the effects last... and clearly it doesn't have the "training benefits" of surgery. I also don't like how DailyMail put dumping syndrome as a disadvantage... I consider that an advantage and is an excellent negative reinforcement tool for those that get it.
  2. Oh no! please dont hurt me Kale 😭 I would be devastated I'm newly revised as well and I had a few shaky moments over the past week with foods i was fine with prior. I cannot have cream based soups anymore. It makes me too quesy. Luckily i dont need them. I know think any super fatty food that isn't a nut may bother me. Also the smell of foods are heightened as well. Otherwise ive been taking it *somewhat* slowly and eating the foods im used to. I'm curious about vegetables/leafy greens as those are my loves.
  3. Just curious- for those of you who had revision from VSG to RNY, are there any foods you ate all the time with the sleeve that you can no longer tolerate after your revision to RNY (or vice versa)? I’m still on full liquids, but I really had no problems with any foods (except kale) after the sleeve. I go back to work when I’m on puréed and afraid of eating something that will make me sick at work.
  4. I used to put peaches and cream in my Matcha (we're on a break 😭) but not strawberry yet... I'm still in the 150s so no big deal How long is your bypass ?

    Acid Reflux

Sirena2020, I am revising because I have a fistula between my sleeve and residual stomach and the reflux too. I will let you know how it goes Thank-you!

Help ! ! Do I need to worry?

Yeah. I had no issues either. I kept asking if they really did anything to me. I actually do have a bigger pouch and stoma and shorter bypass, but have been able to lose almost all of my weight. It's a tool, but ultimately our food choices along with quantities are what will drive weight loss. And liquids went down like nobody's beeswax. Be sure to follow your doc's rec for drinking. Don't drink faster or more than he wants you to per 15 minutes. I do have some restriction with very dense foods.
  7. Are you measuring? With my bypass it took me a while to know what “full” felt like, so I always pre-measured my food

    Acid Reflux

@catwoman7 No, I was told the sleeve was not for those suffering from it however I never really had it therefore I didn’t think it would be a problem. I’m still healing and I hope it won’t last. @Lynda486 Are you revising because of the acid reflux? Gosh I hope I don’t have to resort to that. Please keep me updated on your progress and let me know if it cures the acid reflux. Good luck with your surgery!
  9. I hope it’s ok to start a new Topic regarding goal weight. Having lost weight in the past and lost that fight not too long ago, Gastric bypass surgery was my last hope of having a tool to fight it. My lowest weight then will be quite different from my goal weight now and it scares me in a way because when I reached my lowest weight I didn’t stay there. I had to settle with a higher weight. Maybe because of that I haven’t really focused on a goal until my Mom asked me when would I celebrate losing weight. I didn’t have an answer. I found a weight chart on my clinic nutrition manual to document the first five months and one thing it asks is weight goal. Basically you write down once a week your weight, weight loss for the week and BMI. I had printed out a calendar and write my weight on it every morning. So I decided to fill this out and see it on one page. When I was calculating BMI, I wondered at what weight would I not be obese anymore and just be overweight. I decided that I will try to see it as three different goals rather than just one. The first goal would be the weight that takes me out of obesity and into just being overweight, the second goal would be the top end of healthy weight that border between overweight and healthy weight, the third goal will be somewhere in the middle to lower end of healthy weight based my height and body frame. Though I think the final goal will be to determine what weight I feel best at and hopefully stay there. The biggest hurdle, past all the metabolic disorders, chronic illness and disability limitations will be to stay in the goal weight range. I started out 208 lbs which I’ve had people ask why I was having surgery. I’m very short. And nothing I did before was helping me now. Surgery I was 103.7. So for me my goals are: Goal 1: 148 lbs BMI 28.4 Goal 2: 123 lbs BMI 24 Goal 3: 106 lbs BMI 20.7 at this point goal 2 seems very far away. That’s where I was when I first lost weight. But my bone density and body frame has changed since then, as has my height. I have a lot of medical issues. Plus degenerative disc disease and scoliosis took height. I didn’t do this for looks, though I wouldn’t mind not cringing at my reflection, I did this because I can’t live with the burden the weight has on my health, both physical and emotional. Will I ever be free of seeing myself as the bullied fat kid that never fit in? Probably not. But for now I want to just have concrete goals. I guess because there is so much in my life I have no control of. I want this to be one thing I can, at least try to.

  16. Good luck to all of you having your surgery in August. I had mine gastric bypass Roux-en-Y on the 2nd july 2019 so I'm 4 and half weeks post op. Its early days but I'm doing well. The clear liquid stage was hard for me, my surgeon likes his patients to do 3 weeks liquid, 2 weeks pureed, 2 weeks soft foods. I think as long as you prepare in advanced you will be fine. I found alot of protein powders and shakes to be sickly or too sweet after, so I've stocked up on unflavoured protein powder. I can't wait to start the soft foods diet. I'm surprised how quickly I was up and about after surgery. It helped to relieve the gas pain. I was very constipated for the first week, but then I was fine. The only thing which I'm struggling with is dairy, I have to go to the bathroom straight away if I've had any. I was told it was normal for the stomach to be sensitive to dairy after, that some cant tolerate it at all and others are ok after a few months. Also I was shocked to all the noises my stomach makes, it's like a rumbling growling noise, as if your hungry. Wishing you all the best on your weight loss journeys! I look forward to hearing from you and your experiences. xxx Sent from my SM-G955F using Tapatalk
  17. This is my experience with the sleeve and gerd: I was 227 at the time of surgery BMI 39. I had reflux before surgery and on the max dose of protonix. I was sleeved and my symptoms subsided for a couple of months. About 6-9 months in they started coming back, I seen my pcp and was added zantac 300mg. Months 10-15 I was taking 2 bottles a month of alka zelter chews on top of the protonix and Zantac. I finally consulted my surgeon, after finding it that my sleeve could be the reason. After an EDG I found out that I had a severe case of inflammation to my esophagus and a restriction. Only way to correct this was bypass. Within a week ( because I was producing acid while I was sleeping, and due to heavy sleep medication and not wakeing up, and already aspirating while sleeping) ins approved bypass and I was in the OR 3 days later. This is something you have to decided for your self. The sleeve can either make it worse or better. Everyone's experiences are different. But for me I would still do again, knowing this would be my outcome.
  18. I had gastric bypass a few months ago - and my GERD is gone. I also wanted the nissen fundoplication but my doctor told me that gastric bypass was initially a procedure for GERD. I decided right then and then to have the surgery. I hope you feel better soon. I know how much having reflux can impact your day to day life.

    Revision success

I have my revision in September and cant wait for the acid reflux/gerd to go away! Happy for you!
  20. I had a revision surgery from Lapband to Sleeve on August 2nd. So I am three days out. The pain is bearable for the most part. I am having a really intense sharp pain that runs across my lower chest under my rib cage. It last for a few seconds and then goes away. This happens maybe every 5 minutes or so. Is this normal?
  21. No, not just bypass. I was that way with the sleeve, too. I have found that my coldness now is inconsistent. I'll be cold for a while (maybe even hours), then warm up and take off the sweater. An hour later I'm cold again. So maybe I'm transitioning out of perpetual refrigeration? (Definitely not menopause and too far into the process for it to be estrogen releases from all the excess fat.)
  22. I never had that, so maybe it's just a bypass thing. (I was sleeved)

    Bypass or Sleeve

I'm having the sleeve done, but started noticing a bit more heart burn and reflux recently so was getting worried when reading about the preference for bypass ... so firstly @GradyCat that's so encouraging, and wonderful, for you to hear the sleeve has actually improved yours. @MissLadyK what do they say when you ask them why the sleeve is better given the issues you mentioned and getting another surgeons opinion as others have suggested might be a good idea given your concerns

    Bypass or Sleeve

I think the above says it all. This is YOUR body and you get to make the choice. Don't be afraid to speak up, ask the questions and, if needed, move on to a surgeon willing to do what you feel you need. I would not try too hard to convince a doctor, honestly. I would present it as "this is what I am interested in doing" and he/she is either on board, or not. Ask how many bypass surgeries he/she has performed- it is a good clue into his/her skill set. I had GERD before surgery. So far, 8 weeks out of bypass surgery, I have not. It was a major factor in choosing bypass for myself. Good luck to you!

    Bypass or Sleeve

I agree- see someone else. I had GERD and Barrett's esophagitis with a Barrett's polyp. My surgeon did not even give a 2nd thought to doing gastric bypass because of the history. He told me that anyone with bad GERD before surgery could have it worse after a sleeve, and in those cases, bypass is the better option. My GERD is gone now. If you have GERD now, you may end up with a revision to bypass down the road, and IMHO, why not just get the bypass now and be done with it.
