I agree with the previous posters. Juicing waste so much of the fruit. It'd be better to make a smoothie with a blender if you're not big on eating fruits and vegetables. I like to use frozen berries, half of a frozen banana, Greek yogurt, kale or spinach, and chocolate protein powder. It taste like a chocolate shake!

Please help me with protein!
SoccerMomma73 replied to chrissy1147's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My current Breakfast of choice is vanilla Greek non-fat yogurt (6 oz) mixed with a scoop of the Syntrax double stuffed cookie. I divide it in to 4 serving so 1.5 ounces was about 9 grams of Protein.....doesn't sound that impressive but it is only 1.5 ounces.... I also like the syntrax fuzzy navel, but it has to be over tons of ice and I sip slowly. I just do not care for the protein taste though, it's a struggle!!!!! Don't think I've lost a ton in my 3 month supervised diet but I have been saying goodbye to my "friends" pizza, pastas, corndogs, fries, soda etc I wish I could say I've followed a strict diet but I know I'm going to do great after surgery... It's nice to "part" with these foods and go on with my life! I have to say I have fallen in love with Greek yogurt especially Fage and will eat that for dessert any day! Yum! I love watermelon and my Nut says its fine since its not junk and a great source of Water so I eat that for Snacks. I love tacos and have omitted the shell and just crumbled three tortilla chips on for crunch...I had jaw surgery last year and was on soft foods for over 6 months...I have to have crunch up until this surgery lol

Veterans what is your daily routine like?
livvsmum replied to jmccape's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am about 14.5 months post op and have been maintaining my goal weight (though of course I would love to lose "just another 5 pounds....lol"). Breakfast: Typically I have a sugar-free latte along with something small....either a fat-free cheese stick or hard boiled egg. Lunch: When I am working I have the same exact lunch every day. I'm a creature of habit. I have a small scoop of chicken salad (1/3-1/2 c.), with a small salad on the side (a little bit of spinach leaves (maybe 1/2 c.) a little shredded cheddar cheese on top, a couple cucumber slices, and a couple piece of broccoli. Topped with about 1/2 t. fat free italian dressing). I have a snack in the late afternoon - usually dannon light and fit greek yogurt Dinner: about 3-4 oz of a Protein (either chicken, fish, or beef), along with a veggie.... maybe a small starch last if I still have room. Snack - I have a snack in the evening but usually limit it to a protein hot chocolate or cheese stick. Protein shakes: I will usually switch out dinner with a Protein shake a couple of times a week, or switch out a weekend lunch with a protein shake. So I would say I'm doing probably 3 Protein shakes a week, and probably 3-4 Protein drinks (ie hot chocolate). Water - I drink tons of water.... between 80-100 oz. daily Exercise - SO important to maintaining the loss. I run 4 times a week and cross train on off days with 1 rest day. -
Today's Day 7. I'm allowed to start full liquids, hot cereal, yogurt & cream soups today. And skim milk. I can have a cup of coffee. I actually sang Lionel Richie's 'Hello' to my coffee pot a few minutes ago. I am way too excited over coffee. I had some cream of wheat (for the first time in my life, actually) earlier and I feel fine. I don't feel nauseous or anything. The port site is a little bit sore. I sneezed this morning and had an "OMGWTF" pain moment. I think that's normal. My main incision left some blood spots on my shirt that I slept in where the first steri strip fell off (I think it came off too early). It's not a ton of blood, so I'm going to hold off on calling. I have an appointment on Wednesday, anyways. Yesterday (Day 6) was pretty good, aside from the aforementioned port pain. I actually went to the grocery store and managed to buy what I needed, yet not make it weigh more than a gallon of milk (the most weight I can lift). I had a friend come and move my TV BACK to my living room from my bedroom -- I moved the rest of the stuff (cable box, dvd player), piece by piece so it wasn't too heavy. The ONE friend (who is more an acquaintance I go to happy hour with than anything) out of the six that I asked. Five people who had told me 'if you need anything after your surgery, call!'. Well I texted and called. Nobody answered. See who comes and hangs out with you after YOUR surgery next time. Or who is there when you need a ride to the store or to the laundromat. I'm doing everything my damn self; figure out a way to do things without me constantly driving you around. I'm sorry, but I'm currently super disgusted with the people who are supposed to be my friends. End angry rant. My laundry basket also currently weighs less than a gallon of milk, so I think I'm going to do that at some point this week, too. Maybe on Wednesday after my appointment. I figure I'll already be out, I can get an oil change and get some laundry done. I'm basically "resting" (sitting around) at each of those places except when the laundry needs moved from the washer to the dryer and folded, so it's not like it's "heavy housework". Also, since when is vacuuming "heavy housework"? You're walking around, pushing something that pretty much moves on its own. And now that I've rambled on for 30 minutes, I'm going to drink my coffee.

losing too much too fast…
lovemyboys replied to lovemyboys's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well when I went for my 2wk appt the nurse pract said I could have soft foods like yogurt and pudding at this point but the doc told me not to start them til 4 wks out. He said to be on them for 2wks then at 6wks start regular food. -
Tomorrow will be 1 week post surgery. Today I'm not just having protien shakes but have added yogurt, cream of wheat cereal, fat free ricotta cheese and creamed soups. I'm not a hot cereal lover so that didn't go over too well but everything else I had small portions of and liked it. I even had a small fat free pudding which was good too. I've got to remember to fit my protien shakes in there too inbetween but sometimes it is hard. Maybe once I get back to work tomorrow I'll have a better system and I won't be taking 2 naps during the day! That sort of messes things us too but I figured I needed the rest.

Apple sauces, greek yogurts (try 100 calorie Yoplait) even baby foods.

I was banded 9/26, 10 days ago. I have been on protein shakes and broth (and 1/2 cup low carb yogurt once) ever since. I am getting weaker and now feel even shakey. I know I am supposed to go on mushies Monday but I think I really need to eat something. I have to work and my students are not the easiest bunch (teens with emotional issues). Does anyone know if there are rules and guidelines to mushy foods? Anything that I can puree? or ??? Thanks.

My nutritionalist didn't give me any restriction on yogurt like that... I just have to eat certain kinds...Kroger's carb masters ...but this was before this came out

Pureen and strained sounds like it may be full liquid - are they requiring you to strain out any chunks? This is my full liquid menu: Beverages: Skim or 1% milk Low sugar, decaffeinated, non-carbonated Fluid (crystal light, Fruit2o, etc) Low sugar, low fat, high Protein supplements (CIB, Protein shakes) Dairy products Low fat, light yogurt SF, FF pudding & custard Low fat cottage cheese (blended) Soup Low fat cream Soups thinned down with 1 cup low fat milk (strained of chunks or blended) Low fat broth Miscellaneous Plain hot cream of wheat or otameal (must be pourable consistancy) SF popsicle unsweetened applesauce SF Gelatin I am on this diet until 3 weeks post op. Good luck,

I stocked up on (enough for 2 weeks) Cream Soups, broth, SF Popsicles, 0 cal flavored water (this has been a life saver), yogurt, protien powder, carb countdown milk, SF Jello. Make sure you have liquid tylenol (I got adult strength at WalMart), a heating pad can also help with gas, Gas-x chewables. Set up a comfy place to sleep if you have a recliner bring your pillows and blankets down to it because it was really more comfortable during the first few days - especially if you wont have anyone home to help you out of bed when you finally wake up. I brought a book and magazine to the hospital but was to spacy to concentrate on it for long. When you get in your room if they don't provide you with mouth swabs ask for them - they were great to get rid of the dry mouth, lips and throat from the breathing tube. You might not be allowed to drink anything until day 2 (I wasn't). Good luck,

Two weeks post-op, with no problems... Can I now eat mushies?
Lynn B replied to Pianoman's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Pianoman, I am assuming that you are on a modified (or full) liquid diet (stage 3) - this is what we are released from the hospital on. The following items fall into a full liquid diet: Beverages: Skim or 1% milk Low sugar, decaffeinated, non-carbonated Fluid Low sugar, low fat, high Protein supplements Dairy products Low fat, light yogurt SF, FF pudding & custard Low fat cottage cheese (blended) Soup Low fat cream Soups thinned down with 1 cup low fat milk (strained of chunks or blended) Low fat broth Miscellaneous Plain hot cream of wheat or otameal (must be pourable consistancy) SF popsicle unsweetened applesauce SF Gelatin The stiches on your stomach are still trying to heal and eating something as solid as eggs may not be a good idea. Although five weeks does seem a bit long. I will be on this eating plan until my 3 week post op appointment and then the nutritionist will evaluate me to move to stage 4. If you really need a change I would encourage you to try something above that you might not have thought of and then call your doctor on Tuesday and discuss your eating plan. It is better to be safe than sorry. Good luck, -
Hi Ramona - I just had the surgery August 3. I ate sugar-free pudding and Jello, chicken broth, and yogurt, mostly, and drank coffee, tea, and Water. Around day 3, I got really bad heartburn and gas problems that kept me from eating or drinking much of anything from day 4 through 7. Today, though, is day 8, and I'm feeling back to normal (thank goodness.) My energy is almost back, I have no more heartburn at all, and I'm able to eat solid foods again. And, by the way, I've lost 11 pounds already, so I guess that's the best news of all. Good luck to you!

My port spot hurts really bad also. I have not felt any pain on the other incisions. The nurse told me that it was normal and it would be that way for a couple of days. I was just reading some info that they sent home with me and one paragraph in there said that during the surgery, they just insert the band and not really fill it. Has anyone heard of this? I would have assumed that the doc would have put some saline in it. I have read that some of you can "feel" when the adjustment has been made, but I don't really have that feeling. So maybe the info was correct. I have been on "liquids" since the banding, but the liquids include drinkable yogurt, applesause, pudding, popsicles and the like. I have not had a problem yet of hunger.

Is there a mushy thread
luluc replied to illinoishusker's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
try here: http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f9/lapband-food-stages-lists-suggestions-3995/ i relied on: hummus cottage cheese tuna/egg/chicken salad egg drop Soup greek yogurt ricotta bake scrambled eggs ff refried beans/lf sour cream/salsa -
As you know, I'm not banded yet. BUT when my Grandfather had to crush pills, we put it in pudding, yogurt or milk shakes. He loved the milk shake because it went down quickly and we could make it any flavor he loved. Hope this helps. I know you're worried about the extra caloires, but you'd only have to have a small amount to swallow. Try the yogurt and Protein mix.

Week 5 Update - November Sleeves.
Toolman82 replied to rayb70's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Thanks Lina I have recommitted to protein today. Greek yogurt and protein shake. They’re horrible but I’m getting them down slowly. I hope after a few days I’ll see some change. They don’t satisfy the hunger, but as long as I get them in, I think I’ll be ok. -
Didn't know where to put this but I need some help!
claraluz replied to Emmy27's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I would stay away from eggs until you're much farther along - if then. I've been banded for over a year and cannot eat eggs. Just because you cannot eat an egg does not mean that you will have a hard time when you move to solids. I would start with foods softer than a soft boiled egg: yogurt, cottage cheese, etc. Don't worry! You'll be fine. Nancy -
Is this right? Seems strange.......
QWINNER replied to Feel2Young2B40's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Laura It is normal to be very hungry just a week or 2 out of surgery. Keep feeding your hunger with Protein shakes, fat free pudding/jell0, fat free yogurt. The mushy stage is hard. I didn't like the consistency of the mushy food so I kept eating yogurt and egg salad. If you want to lose a good chunk of weight, hold off on solids as long as you can. I think most dr's say atleast 4 weeks until solid. Plus that will help you heal faster. Drink lots of Water too. Good luck and try to fight off the hunger. Take a walk or something. -
liquid stage - how long does it go on for man??!!
princess_n_thep replied to a_bit_pink's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
You have solid liquids for 4 weeks? geesh. I am almost one week post band. I have Clear Liquids for one week (hard as heck to do and I am soooo wanting something of substance) , creamy/yogurts/protein shakes for week 2, mushies week 3/4 and solids by week 5. And of course, lots of water/gatorade during it all. But alas, I must stick with the old lap band addage of "follow your doctors orders!". Don't worry girl, my first week is flying by.... I hope yours gets quicker too! -
Isa, It is not uncommon for people to lose 20 or more lbs in under 2 weeks. You've drastically decreased your caloric intake from presurgery so it is normal to have lost that much weight. If you remain on liquids, then mushies you could probably lose more than you would ever imagine. Many doctors say no solids for the first 6 weeks and that is so your stomach can heal. Maybe you should stick to yogurt, Soups and the like to avoid any complications. You'd be amazed how much weight you might lose. I would say that nothing is wrong - you just got yourself a band. Good luck

I guess I qualify as a lower BMI patient. My BMI was 37.7--something like that. (I paid for the surgery myself. My insurance company requires a 40 BMI). I think everyone is just different, and also surgeons are different, and the brands and sizes of lap bands are different. I had my Inamed lapband put on in Mexico and they give you no restriction at first. It's one month later and I'm still not ready for one. There is no way on earth I could eat a large meal now. The largest meal I've had to date--want to hear this? Went to Jack in the Box. Got their Southwest chicken pita--yum, has moist chicken, black beans, corn, spices. I ate about half of it. I also had a craving for a shake. Got a SMALL chocolate shake--only had maybe 1/5 of it, and saved the rest in the freezer to try again 5 hours later or so. That's it--my biggest meal so far. I really am eating more "by the book" most days. High protein, some yogurt, some soy protein powder blended shakes with frozen fruit, sipping water all day (that's hard--I'd love to just gulp water), taking chewable Centrum vitamins and Viactiv carmels for my calcium, small portions of moist meats and chew, chew, chew. I'm a little puzzled by your story since just the band itself, with no fill, should give some restriction. But hey--some of us have more fat right in the area where banded, and when we lose fat in that particular area we'll feel less restriction. What brand is your band?

I did that with full fat yogurt not too long ago. That is most definitely an NSV . Congrats!
