I am new to this forum and hope I can find ome of the support that I can't seem to find in my friends at work. I haven't told them I'm even going to have the surgery because we work in health care and I know how they all feel about WLS. I just finally got my approval letter on Saturday. I had been so down in the dumps waiting on the final approval that I have gotten way off track on what weight I had lost in my 6 months of monthly doctor visits. I had lost 33 lbs during that 6 mths. I've been very depressed while waiting (plus crappy cold weather didn't help) that I have gained 16 lbs in about 7 weeks. :pout: This of course, is giving me doubts about the surgery! On a good note though I have joined the health club in our area and started there with my husband. We've had a really good time. Even took 2 hours of aquatic exercise classes today.

I'm two weeks post op (Monday) and I still have meds to take for the h pylori bacteria (I think that's how it's spelled). I haven't been taking them as regularly because I have to crush them and open the capsule and take the powder. I need suggestions. I've contacted the dr just about every day since I've gotten my meds and they say I have to suck it up. Has anyone had this problem? Did you take the pill whole and felt fine after? Prices of Lap Band Surgery
TracyinKS replied to Lindalew's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Another KC area person here.... I did the same calling around as you........ The WLSC (not affiliated with any insurance is the 13.5 price no fills or aftercare) I'm going with Dr. Malley because he does take my insurance but his cash price is 16.5K with a year of after care and fills.... (he says he wants to see you every 4 weeks for the first year... and you may or may not get a fill depending on your personal needs) If you self pay you can get in quick because you can schedule at any one of the 3 hospitals he works at....... (I have to wait for Menorah, and they are already booked Through March 8th) IF money was a real issue... I would go to Dr. K in Denver for under 10K because KC to Denver flights are cheap..... (but the weather this year as you know is crazy) I envy you not having to jump through the insurance hurdles... good luck and keep us posted. ohhhhh ya.. you might go to obesity help dot com and look for surgeons in the area.. they have something like 27 local ones that you could do research on .. first step is to attend a seminar... for instance.. there is one close to me (atchison/leavenworth) I also called about 5 places before opting for Malley... and mostly it was the knowledge and courtesy of the person answer the phone and questions.... (plus I'd heard good things about him on here and other places) Stanely Hoehn is another one I've heard good things about. Opie (Olathe is getting started) and Wanda K (I think is her name) has also gotten rave reviews. -

I'm a counselor at a high school and my surgery is scheduled for the 17th. I will be out for three weeks while the students are on Christmas break. I was reassured that this will be enough time off from work, although I can have up to 6 weeks. -

Different stages of food
sleevie.wonder replied to RJCmommy's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My guidelines: Day 1-3: Clear Liquids Day 4-14 (Week 1 & 2): Full Liquids Day 15-28 (Week 3 & 4): Pureeds Day 29-42 (Week 5 & 6): Soft **where I'm at right now** Day 43-56 (Week 7 & 8): Regular and then regular food from then on. It will only be the meal size that increases. It starts at 1/4 cup and it will eventually be 1-1 1/2 cups at a year out. But every surgeon has their own guidelines. -
Yes. All these pills. In the morning my husband calls it my 2nd breakfast. I'm almost 4 weeks out and they are so hard to remember, but it's getting better. It new habits. I can say, they are helping my water intake.

ARE THERE ANY PRE-SLEEVER'S FROM LOUISIANA PLANNING ON GOING TO MEXICO?
Buckwildest replied to BackToBeautiful's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Sorry, can't help you with the Mexico trip, I was wondering if you had ever heard of Dr. Thomas Borland in New Iberia, La. http://www.thomasborlandmd.com/ While it's not Mexico rates, All in price is under 10 grand, and you don't have the travel and language barrier to deal with.Sleeve is the only procedure that he will perform, and he's done thousands. I'm one week out of surgery, and have been more than satisfied with the level of care and service i have received. Give him a look and see if perhaps this might be an alternative to leaving the country for you. take care. -
I rarely do hard carbs. I had roasted sweet potatoes but had no room after my salmon. So i don't waste my time now. Protein or nothing! Its hard enough to get that in so I can't fool with nothing else. 8 weeks post op.

I think every doctor has their own set of testing guidelines. I'm self pay, and I've had a one on one with a dietician, psychologist, I've had an upper GI, and I have 4 weeks of mandatory group therapy to prepare for life after lapband. I think it's a good thing. Don't be in a hurry to get through it. Learn all you can in the months leading up to the surgery. That's what I'm doing here on this site. If I need anymore tests, that's fine. Whatever makes the surgery and after go better for me is in my best interest. Lynette

Tracy, I work in Cold Spring at Kohl's. I was not at the health fair, but wish I had gone. I actually went to Dr. Sonnanstines seminar on March 1 and had my consultation March 2. I originally thought that I would get banded April 30, but couldn't get in to the dietician and psychologist until April 24. We have inventory at work on June 24 and 25, so I'm waiting until after that to have the surgery. I'm taking 4 weeks off, and the timing just didn't work out to have it until after inventory. So here I sit, waiting. You can email me at dolphinatic617@yahoo.com. I'd like to stay in touch and it's always nice to have support from someone who knows what it's all about. Tell your mom I said good luck. When is her friends surgery with Dr. S? Lynette:o

Lynette, I live in Alexandria. Dr. Kerlakein did my surgery. He is with Good Samaritan Hospital. He is great. I just went to the health fair that St. Luke put on a week or two ago. Were you there? My mom's friend is getting hers done by Dr. Sonnanstine. He seems very good and knowledgable. That is why we were at the health fair. My mom is going to Dr. Curry. She has her date scheduled for May 4th. Wow..small world.

Unfortunately I'm gaining weight. I'm one of those people who really needs the band. I've gained 4 lbs in 3 weeks. I'm hoping my hunger will settle down soon. -
They took the liquid out of my band - help!
vlp1968 replied to Phx_Jazz's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Are you working out? If not I highly reccomend it. It has been key for me in my weightloss journey. I los 107 pounds in about 10 months. When they scale stalled I increased the intensity and the scale started moving again. -
Age: 19 HW: 296 SW: 280 CW: 257 I’m 7 weeks post-op and I was solid at the gym for about two weeks when I got the approval from my surgeon then my schedule got pretty hectic and stopped but I’m down 39 pounds so far and ready to get back to the gym! What’s your favorite workouts to do at the gym (or at home)? I currently work out at LA Fitness I mainly do cardio but I’m interested in signing up for the classes they offer there such as yoga and kick boxing.

Any large pills such as my multi had to be crushed or chewables until I was 6 weeks. Smaller pills like my omprazole I was allowed to swallow. According to my nutritionist the concern was that so soon after surgery the body might not be able to break down such large pills to properly absorb the nutrients. I would check with your program as to what their guidelines are.

I did have to have my gall bladder out 6 months after surgery but I HAD gall bladder attacks before my sleeve surgery took place. I did put that on my surgery paperwork but they opted not to do anything at the time. I had another major attack and it became necessary to have it removed. The surgery was done as outpatient and I was out a week and back at work. It really wasn't that bad. I agree that you should keep it if it doesn't need to be removed but don't worry if it does. The diet for someone without a gall bladder is low fat and that is something we do already so it doesn't really require any major life changes. Ask your surgeon if you have maternal family history or have had issues yourself and they can check before surgery to see if you need any special attention there...Good luck!!

Couples being banded??
DB1119 replied to ready4nume's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My Hubby & I hope to be banded in January. We should have surgery dates shortly. We have been going through the 6 month nutrition counseling & all the pre-op testing. My BMI is 38 with 2 co-morbidities. Hubby's is 43. We are both 45 and have been married for 21 years. It only makes sense that we do this together. We are not going to be banded on the same day - but hopefully within a few weeks of each other. I look forward to staying in touch with all of you! -
November sleevers! 6 weeks out and feeling discouraged!
Sassy Pants1 replied to Alisa11/18's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Actually, you're doing really well. I had not lost that much at 6 weeks. I am in my 11th week and I've lost 38 pounds. It's a slow go for some of us. I am confident it will work, it's just going to take more than I had hoped. -
My wife and I also paid cash and were originally going to use Dr. Borland. We had a great experience with Dr. Borland and his staff, but in the end, opted to use Dr. Lavin in Mandeville, due to the logistics involved (We live in Slidell and were able to use Southern Surgical Center in Slidell...too convenient w/school age children.). I'm 8 months post op, 101 lbs. down (hit my goal two weeks ago!) and my wife is 6 months out, 70 lbs. down (she hit her goal 3 weeks ago...then decided she wanted to lose more...women! LOL). We were talking last night about getting crawfish next weekend...now we can boil enough for the two of us in a small stock pot on the stove! Good luck!

Hi: I'm actually about 3 weeks from surgery, but I was wondering whether you were told to go to all liquids for the 2 weeks prior to surgery. Thanks Howard
