Dr. John Bagnato - Frustrated, upset and confused...
oneder_woman posted a topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
WTF????? I do not understand what is going on with me and my scale. I got my latest fill a few weeks ago. It worked very well, I was so motivated and lost 8 pounds pretty fast. Then last week, TOM, and Water weight gain + cravings. I didn't give in to cravings, etc. Now, understand that I retain SERIOUS water - like 5 to 10 lbs of water. It sucks. Okay, so water gone, scale went back to normal. I fully admit I fell off the wagon on Friday night and gave in to temptation (Marble Slab Creamery is the of the devil). I logged my food at thedailyplate, and yes, I was way over, but not enough to even gain a pound, much less the NINE pounds that my scale reflected Saturday. I thought it was a fluke, but it was still there Sunday and this morning. NINE pounds - as in, heavier than before my fill. Again - WTF?????? -

Hey girl! You are getting scale obessessed...I know I've been there. You are right though - get you a new scale. That may help. Judge by the way your clothes fit and if you are measuring - that measuring tape. As long as you are eating right and getting smaller/healthier - that should be your focus. I've been relying too much on numbers myself. I forget how far I've come. I actually have a waistline now and have lost three spare tires...I'm now only down to one (and it is getting deflated). Think of how far you have come. You and I are reaching a slow down point now. I'm six months out and the pounds are coming off slowly - just stay diligigent and don't give up. If it makes you feel better after buying that new scale, do what we always wanted to do. Take a sledge hammer to the old one...release those frustrations! LOL -

You must be retaining Water - that can only be the problem. Is it around that time of the month? before or just after? Even up to two weeks before can do it. I had a hysterectomy in 2004 and and have one ovary left -but i still have pms symptoms as if it was still there bright as day. I just don't get on the scale when I know I am retaining water... weigh again on Saturday - if it is still there, then you may need to up your water intake to flush the retention out. Makes no sense, I know but that is what I was told works. -

I need to give a little back story here. My husband is 26 (will be 27 on Sunday), he's a great looking, attractive, naturally fit/lean guy. He's 6'0" and 165lbs dripping wet. He is currently deployed to Afghanistan and will be returning late September/early October (4 months after my post op revision). Ever since I told him I was moving forward with the revision surgery, his mentality has changed. He's working out, weightlifting to what I consider an extreme. He's bragged that he's "getting bigger" and I will be able to see a difference. I asked him "why are you working out?" He brushed it off that he was was just "passing the time". Now today, he has ordered a whey Protein supplement online from a bodybuilding website. He overpaid for what he is getting, and the email I sent, once the email confirmation came through, let him know that he overpaid for something I could of gotten here and shipped to him for less. I could care less about the money, or that he had ordered a supplement, just the fact that I asked him about that a couple weeks ago, he said he had no desire to "bulk up". My question is: Have any of ya'll experienced this with your husband/significant other? I almost feel like he is threatened by the fact that I will be losing weight. Kind of like he wants or feels the need to 'one up' me. We've never had jealousy/insecurity issues in our relationship/marriage. We've dealt with long distance relationship for over half of 3 years together. This is our 1st deployment as a married couple, I'm just really perplexed by all of this. He isn't the work out type. He hates working out when he is here. He has always loved me for me regardless of my pant size. He was and still is extremely supportive of my WLS decisions. He has mentioned a few times about me changing, but after the initial surgery back in October all of that was never mentioned again. We did talk about me sending him progress pictures. He decided that he wanted it to be a surprise. . . I just need to know if this is normal. I kind of feel like he is threatened by the thought of me losing weight. He knows that I get hit on now as a "hot fat chick". I feel like he is doubting me, or my fidelity, and he wants to make sure when he comes home that I am going to still want him, or even worse that he is the "better looking half". I may be overthinking all of this, but I can't shake this feeling that something other than "passing the time" is the driving force behind his 5-6 day a week working out/weightlifting. Thanks for any input. I appreciate it. . .

I'm on day 1 of a full liquid diet (plus a cup of veggies twice a day if i need) that I have to do for the two weeks before surgery. I had one shake for lunch and the taste made me gag, I had to very concsciously not throw up. For dinner I had some chicken soup broth which is fine, but I don't know how I'm going to get through eating shakes for the next four weeks (two pre and two post op). What shakes are you guys using? I greatly dislike the taste of milk so I put a whey protein powder in rice milk and it was really disgusting. Help please!

I'm starting my 14-day pre-op liquid diet that consists of 2 cans of slim fast protein, low carb shake, sugar free carnation instant breakfast with 1 cup skim milk, cup cottage cheese, 1 cup dannon light and fit yogurt, 15 oz can vegetarian vegetable soup, quaker oatmeal weight control oatmeal, 3 servings of fruit (1/2 cup each serving), and 48-64 ounces of water or sugar free drinks, no caffeine, no carbonation. I have to have all this every day for 2 weeks. Is anyone doing the same diet or something like this? I know every surgeon and weight loss center is different. Any tips and advice? Thanks!!!

Surgery Tuesday 12/2 (help please)
kiz replied to falcon66's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good luck with your upcoming surgery. 1. I had laproscoptic gall bladder surgery a few years ago, and the scars on only faint white lines now. I had staples and stitches with that surgery, but this time the surgeon used glue. I'm using an aloe vera and Vitamin D lotion. It's been just under three months since my surgery, and the lines are still red. I wish I remembered how long it took those other scars to go pale, but it was so gradual, I guess I really didn't notice. 2. I left the hospital with a bag of pain medication going directly into my stomach area, sort of like an IV, but it wasn't a needle, to my great relief. I carried the bag in little fanny pack that came with it. I've read that some people took theirs out right away, but I left mine in until the meds ran out after a couple of days. It really kept the surgical sites numb. I also had a narcotic med to take orally. I weaned off those after a couple of days and stuck with liquid Tylenol. 3. I'm a SAHM, but I think I would have felt fine going back to work in about a week, if I had a desk job. I think the half days auntlucy mentioned would be helpful, if your company would allow that. I was still achy in the port area, so sitting up for eight hours straight would have been pretty uncomfortable. -
Lapband In 2005 - Gaining Weight
cpatt1124 replied to Maggie63's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I have had my band going on three years now. I haven't had an adjustment in over a year, and this started with me about six months ago. Coughing all night, maybe about two or the times per month. Got so bad finally that I wound up in the hospital last week with pneumonia. I came up with a theory. I'm no doctor but I'm still testing it. Everyone that is having this happen, do you sleep on your stomach? I did constantly and I think the pressure on the band pushes food/liquid back up while you sleep. Been trying to sleep on my side and back the last few nights. So far so good. -
Surgery Tuesday 12/2 (help please)

1. I am one week postop (8 days). My dermabond is drying and flaking off my incision sites, which are still obvious but are also healed shut. They itch like mad. 2. I came home with liquid Lortab. I used it a little less every day and by the fourth day postop I was not using it at all. Get adult liquid Tylenol to transition to. The pain for me honestly was not at all bad. 3. I went back to work on the fourth day after surgery. Hope this helps. Good luck! -
DH wants me to cancel surgery 2/3/09 HELP
heather1434 replied to heather1434's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would just like to say Thank you to everyone who replied to my plea for help. I greatly appreciate it. I am going forward with my surgery. I offered the 3 month wait in hopes that I could convince him in time, but I think him seeing how committed I am to this has made all the difference. We had a VERY long talk and I showed him alot of what you all had to say. I reminded him of the visit to the surgeon and the support group meetings that he attended with me and how alot of his concerns were addressed at those meetings. It is not a matter of jealously for him, he is just genuinely fearful that something will go wrong again. I actually said to him what tdteach99 said a "couple of hours of worry or a couple of decades without me because of what would happen to me later in life if I stay this way" and for him it clicked. A light bulb went off. SO he is still WORRIED, but he is on board. SO again Thank You All SO Much. Two weeks from Today! -
Yea, just healing because your body is kinda in shock, it all evens out after about 6 weeks. Also remember 1-2lbs a WEEK is normal. I know all the liquid diet weight is exciting, but it doesn't continue like that. Sounds like you are doing everything right though!

Get back to your doctor and see what he/she says. When I was ready to get back on track my doctor wouldn't let me have a fill, he made me get back on track and come back in 4 weeks. I go back this Thurs. I am ready for my appointment. I got out my food journal and write down everything I put in my mouth, including the 1 M&M I had. I also keep track of my exercise daily. I have only lost 3lbs in the last 3 weeks but I have lost inches as my clothes are alot looser than they were. I am hoping to get that fill on Thursday as I feel I need more restriction. If you want we can be accountable together as we are both getting back on track!!
-
I can relate to what you are going through. I had a pretty terrible last year too. My Dad passed away along with two uncles and an aunt. I have gone back to support meetings, and started a regular exercise program. I had to have an unfill this past week because my band was way too tight. I had vomiting and acid reflux. Plan on returning again for a fill when things calm down. Having the proper restriction really helps me the most to put things in perspective as to the volume of food I eat. And, as always, being mindful of having all the necessary Protein in the day, plenty of Water, making good choices of food, etc., all help. Good luck to you! I feel I have done this before (getting back on track and being successful with weight loss) so I know what to do.

Hi all, I am an old timer (banded since 1997) who has just had a radical re-adjustment and has been thrown back into the fresh hell that is being newly banded. I have all these new problems I didn't have before and it's driving me nuts. When I was first banded I lost 70kg in between mid Feb and November the same year. I worked out like a demon. I nearly went nuts. I was constantly hungry. It was the worst experience of my life. I got pregnant and couldn't work out for 4hrs a day. I regain 30kg in 3 months. That was still working out for an hour everyday. My surgeon retired and there was no one for me to consult as this was still a very uncommon surgery in Australia at the time. Since then I have regained every kilo I lost. My current GP decided my band was too loose and sent me to a local surgeon (a new addition) who has adjusted my band very tightly (3mm stoma). I have lost 5kg in two weeks. I am miserable and back where I started. Does anyone out there have a good way of relieving gas? I feel like there's a rock in my stomach. There are days I wish I had never been banded... Do you no what really annoys me? No one ever speaks ill of the band and some days it is very difficult living with it. I spent my wedding reception with my head over a toilet because I'd eaten the wrong thing. There have been weeks where I have thrown up every meal. No one mentions that...

I have pcos, but have Fairly regular cycles. I was due the day of surgery and the preop nurse said I'd probably wake up from surgery with it. As it turned out, it didn't start until 2 weeks after surgery.

Day 4 of liquid pre op diet
LisaMarieVSG replied to Bella1017's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm so thankful my surgeon only requires a two week pre-op diet of sugar free, low carb/high Protein foods. This diet will also shrink your liver. However he is strict with his post-op diet, as we are required to stay on clear liquid for 10 days then advance to full liquids for 10 days & after that its 10 days of puréed food. I know others sleeved patient who are cleared to start eating soft foods just one week post-op. The diets really seems to very with each surgeon. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
This apparently happens all the time because the nurse even asked me if I had started my TOM that day (the day of surgery) and I had not but once I got out of surgery it was there. It was actually 8 days early. Then I got it again 2 weeks later. It took a few months to get back on a regular schedule. The surgery is a shock to the system and lots of hormones going all wacky so dont be alarmed if your schedule is off for a while.
