Not following my surgeons recommendations....
c1973d posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
BECAUSE he keeps thinking I had Gastric Bypass and not the Sleeve! My 6 month check up is this week and I'm not even excited for it. Starting weight 276 in January, Surgery weight April 15th 255 and current weight 199.5 (yay!) I've been told by my surgeon I'm not losing as fast as everyone else and to eat 3 meals a day with no snacks. Well too bad because I continue to eat 5 small healthy meals a day and I think I'm doing great so he can shut it! -
Water w/Crystal Light & Going to School/Work
TN_girl21 replied to TN_girl21's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks yall! Raw veggies...I never thought of that. I love carrots and ranch dressing. lol Let me ask this....I have my one week check up tomorrow. My doctor has a post op diet of 1 week clear, 1 week full liquids, 1 week pureed/mushies and the 4th week solid food and your first fill. He already moved me up to full liquids early, do you think he could move me onto mushies quicker too if I'm healing well? -
Hey all! I was banded on June 25, 2008 and have done very well. I have had two fills. The first one offered very little restriction and the 2nd one made a difference but I was still doing well. Well, about 2 weeks ago I started throwing up more and more. Now my chest constantly hurts (my back too!) and I can only drink some liquids in the late evening. Do you think my band could have slipped? I am seeing the Doc tomorrow. I am afraid of getting fluid out because I have been losing so well, but I don't want to be miserable either. Has this ever happened to anyone else? Thanks for your help!:rolleyes2:

comparison with gastric bypass patients
Angelica replied to kbinaz's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
You know, for a few weeks, I really fell like I made a mistake. I thought, I could be losing SO MUCH more weight, so much more quickly. I thought, how much easier it would have been to just get a bypass and move on with my life. then i went to go get my first fill. It was at a surgery center, because its under floro, and a nurse was getting me ready for the procedure, and she said, 'you know, the lapband is so much better than the bypass, in my opinion. the people who have the bypass are SICK for months after the surgery'. Then I remembered why I did this in the first place, i didnt want to define my life by weight loss surgery. I didnt want to be 'that girl'. Ignore the haters, dont tell the people who arent necessary about the surgery. Its the easiest way to go in my opinion. -
Congrats on your new tummy. My advice would be to stop weighing yourself daily. I only weigh once a week (I'm five weeks out). I'm down 30lbs so far but in the last two weeks only 3 pounds each week. Just starting to be able to tolerate "normal" food and working out a lil bit. It will all come with time. Just do the things you're supposed to and enjoy your new life. :-)

Looking for buddy or mentor - Oct 27 Surgery Date
jobillandjosh replied to heah325's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I started loosely back in January. I got really serious in April when I did my intro meeting. They told me to eat 1700 calories a day and to get moving. I started using MyFitnessPal to track calories and began wearing a Nike FuelBand every day then also committed to working out 4x a week in any way I wanted - swimming, walking, whatever. I had to change a lot, but figured that would be my life post-surgery anyway. Now though still very nervous like everyone else :-) It's easy to lapse so even now takes work to be on top of it. -
Hi All, I had my surgery on Thursday, 10/15 - late in the afternoon (2PM). I stayed in recovery until 8PM when I was moved to my room. I was able to do a walk down the hallway and back at 10PM and began drinking Water as soon as I got into my room. I am thrilled to say I have had absolutely no adverse reactions. Sure I would get a little fluttering in my stomach and tad bit of nausea but never came close to feeling like I needed to throw up and the gas pains were minimal - I never exprienced the gas pains in my back or shoulders that others warned about. I was sipping decafe coffee, chicken broth, and Jello for Breakfast the next day and did two more strolls down the hallway. I was discharged at 4PM the following day and opted to walk out vs. using a wheelchair. I will admit that walking out of the hospital and into my house wore me out and made my legs weak for about 24 hours. I have continued to follow my doc's orders and diet. I began full liquids on day three - again no problem or reactions other than a little fluttering in my stomach which I took as a sign to stop eating. I've been eating cream of wheat (mixed with unflavored Protein poweder), greek yogurt, protien shakes, and homemade blendered tomato Soup (with protein powder). I even took a small trip to the grocery store (didn't drive) yesterday. Again it wore me out and I napped for 2 hours afterwards but then had plenty of energy after the nap. Overall I am extremely pleased with how my body is responding. I am giving a lot of credit to the fact that I am sipping the Isopure bottled clear Protein drinks for my main liquid intake - I even made jello and popsicles out it. I'm taking all my suppliments too. The only odd side effect I've had is taking my cholestrol meds - I take a lot - 3 different prescriptions but 6 pills in total. The first night I took them I spaced each pill out by 10 min but that didn't seem to be enough time as I was burping up a bad chemical/medicine taste about 30 min after taking the last pill. So now I spread them out throughout the day and have not had that problem. What about weight you ask? When I got home that next day I got on the scale and I was 5lbs heavier than when I went in for surgery - realizing it was mostly trapped gas and all the IV fluids in me I didn't freak out. As of today I am 5 lbs lighter than the day of surgery.

When can I join the gym after my gastric sleeve surgery
moony88 replied to moony88's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Yes. It will depend on how you are healing/recuperating and his protocol. If you are ever unsure or unclear, always ask for clarification. Some doctor's do a blanket 6 weeks post-op, others 3 months. It will vary program to program. My doctor said everything is OK and I'm much better. But he didn't tell me when I can do my exercises ????... -
LOW metabolism - sleeve or bypass
glitter eyes replied to bhopeful's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I too have Hashimoto's. Prior to surgery I ate low calorie, approx. 1200-1400 calories a day and still weighed 271 pounds. I did a two week pre op liquid diet and only lost 4 pounds. So I was very skeptical that the sleeve would work for me. Fast forward about seven months and I was down to 155. Now I am a year and four months post op and weigh 145. So it has worked for me. I still eat low calorie even in my maintenance phase. I usually average around 900-1000/day with about 80-100 grams of Protein. I watch my carbs closely too. Good luck in your decision!! Weight loss surgery is an amazing tool. -

Tips for breaking my 3,4,5 week curse (i mean stall)
christieouchley replied to chinamama's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If it makes you feel any better I'm about in the same boat. We have the same surgery date. I lost 13 the first week, 8 the second week, and now in week 5 I'm only down 3 more for a total of 24. So I've only lost a lb a week for the last three weeks. I keep calories under 800 and exercise 5 times a week. I feel the same way but I know the scale has to start moving if I keep this up and keep up my water and protien intake. My friends are sick of my worrying, but you cant help it. One of my friends who had the sleeve in Dec. says I just have to trust my sleeve. I am going to stop worrying about failing because I am determined I won't. I'm willing to put the work in so it WILL get done! -

I am almost at my one year surgi-versary and needless to say, my life has changed beyond what I ever imagined. Last week I was asked to be the "Living Proof" speaker at tonight's information seminar. Of course I said yes....I would sing the sleeves praises from the roof tops!! Anyway, I was put in a office while he began the seminar and before he introduced me he put up my before picture. Almost like a grand reveal, I was brought in. There were gasps in the room!! I heard an "amazing" comment, a "what an inspiration" comment and a "you are beautiful" comment! It was so nice to share my story knowing that it wasn't that long ago I was right in that seat in the very same bundle of nerves. It hasn't always been easy and there have been bumps in the road but at the end of the day, I am happier and healthier than I've ever been.....that's sayin' something I think

I have to get up at 4 a.m. in the morning to get ready to see Dr. Bauman. My appt. is at 8:15. I have had the physical, pap, 8 vials of blood taken, sleep apnea test and a psych eval all last week. I only think I lack is an upper GI and seeing the nutrtionist. I hope he will look at all this and be able to see how serious I am abut having this surgery. Is there anyone on here that is having surgery in December by Dr. Bauman? Thank you for the support. I hope I have good news soon.

I'm having a terrible week. I get my fill this Thursday and I am hoping it will restrict me. Right now I am eating complete junk and way 2 much of it. I'm very depressed. Then I get on this website and everyone says they lost 15-30 lbs. really quick. I'm 7 weeks post-op and down 14 lbs. What am I doing wrong? Will a fill restrict me from overeating?

I am going for my surgery tomorrow!! So nervous! Just been to the supermarket to buy a few things for when I get home. What did you drink (I know it's liquids only) for the first week? I got some miso Soups, coconut Water, yoghurt drink and soups to strain. I read somewhere that if you add Protein power to coconut water it's a good way to stay hydrated and get your protein in? Anyone recommend anything else? Also Vitamins I bought Biotin, Calcium and a Multivitamin. Would love to hear any tips! ????

Great to see you guys. Well done on your progress. I finally went to buy new clothes last week and I am down from a 26 to an 18 in pants and from a 24 to 14 in tops. Feels good to wear clothes that fit! It has been a stuggle at times and I hate when a PB shows it's ugly head but I would do this whole thing again. It's the best decision I ever made and I shout about it to the whole world. I am half way to my goal and I can't wait to get there. Any other November 2005 kids out there? Don't be shy. We still need to stick together!

How much weight did you lose the first month?
La_madam replied to ginger's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I was told by my Dr. to not worry about weight loss during the first month, his main concern was for me to focus on healing. He told me any weight loss during the pre fill stage is a bonus, since the band was designed to work it's best when it was filled. Did your Dr. tell you any of this ? But for therecord I lost 19 lbs in the first 9 weeks -
Hi There. I was banded in Oct by Dr Meyers at Day One. I have not had any negative experiences there. I went to the info seccion in June and met with Dr Meyeres a few weeks after. I didn't think my insurance was going to approve me and kinda write the idea off around mid-summer. I was kinda shocked when the woman who works with the insurances called me in August to say she was expecting a decision soon. I honestly figured it was not going to happen. They have info sessions on Saturdays - check it out. Surgery was fine - no issues and my fills were relatively quick (except for the first but thats cuz I'm a wuss who almost fainted.) I keep thinking I shoudl go in for another fill. Their website gives some info but the info sessions are wonderful becuz you meet the doc, see and play with the band and meet some folks/staff who have been thru the procedure.

Hi Monica - Your initial restriction from your fill was undoubtedly due to your stomach swelling after the adjustment. I would give it a few weeks to settle in before you decide this current fill is too little - you will probably find (like most of us) that your restriction can vary from day to day, and you may feel wide open one day and slammed shut the next. My fills didn't really kick in until 4-6 weeks afterwards (no idea why). I am not a lower BMI patient, but fills seem to be fills. Your fill level may tend to be a little higher than higher BMI patients (at first, anyway), but that would most likely be due to less fat around your stomach. So the real answer is - this is not happening to you because you are a low BMI patient. This is a typical response to fills.

Hi! I was banded on March 2nd 2005. I have done pretty well so far, I started out at 185 and am now at 169. I had my first fill last Wed. (6 days ago) without flouro. In the few weeks before the fill I could eat anything I wanted. I did fine and felt restriction for the 1st 3 or 4 days after my fill, but sure enough yesterday and today I'm back to being able to eat like pre-band times!! He put 1.6cc's in my 4cc band, and said that should give me good restriction for a few months!! Needless to say I'm bummed about it being only a few days and I feel like its gone. I'm wondering since Im a lower BMI patient if I should expect to not feel the restriction as much as others?? I know my weight loss has been good up to this point and I shouldnt complain, but I've had to use as much willpower as before the band..... Any feedback would be greatly appreciated! Monica
