5 days out - Are Eggs ok?
blashlee replied to BoerneTX's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If your surgeon gave you an eating plan, I would say stick to that. I'm in my Week 2 post op and trying foods from a limited list. Eggs and refried beans were on there so that's what I had for my first food. Her advice says yogurt goes down best but I learned today that that's not true for me. If it went down well then it's probably ok but double check with your surgeon. -
To lower the amount of carbs in the foods you mentioned, use Water for the Protein shakes instead of milk and look for the low carb yogurts. I like the Dannon light & fit greek yogurt. a serving has 12 g protein, 8 g carb and no fat (80 cal)

Awww... We are here for each other. I am six weeks post op and I've learned I cannot tolerate meat. None. Except chili, go figure. I'm so frustrated and I've had a few break down moments. I've thrown up a few times these past few weeks and I know right now I need too. I tried some turkey burger tonight (3 small bites) and I can feel it sitting in my throat. Tomorrow I'm going back to soft foods like cottage cheese, yogurt, crackers with cheese. For some reason crackers are considered soft. I've also asked myself what have I done a couple of times today. I know I made the best choice for me and I'm still learning. However I am somewhat sad that I let myself get to the point of needing surgery. I've decided to attend a support group meeting next Wednesday hoping that I'm not the only person feeling frustrated. Keep smiling and I heard this will get better over time. The best part is we will be skinny hot babes by summer!!! ????

I think avocado would be great! Also sour cream or plain yogurt.

Saturday night I had a stomach ache that would not let up, it continued into Sunday. No nausea, no vomiting, diarrhea, just a really annoying ache/crampy feeling. Was able to eat normally, normal BM's. I went about my business and even did my 2.5 mile jog Sunday AM. I tried eating a yogurt Sunday afternoon and shortly thereafter I could barely stand up straight. Called my surgeon and he suggested I go to the ER since it was bugging me for so long. I went, had blood work and a CT scan-- everything was normal. Doc wrote it off to menstrual cramps; but I know my body and know that I never get crippling cramps. (I have an IUD which makes my periods light-non-existent). I'm wondering if I'm suddenly becoming more sensitive to sugars. I haven't dumped on anything to this point. I've eaten that brand/flavor of yogurt before-- but this time I couldn't even get through the cup before my stomach began revolting. But no other symptoms that I've read about for dumping (sweaty, racing heart etc). An overall odd experience. Well I'm glad I got confirmation everything is fine on the inside-- and if nothing else; I've got reason to be more vigilant with my sugar intake!

I started mushies on Friday and this weekend I ate canned venison, pizza, broiled cod, cheese and venison sausage. I don't think of these as mushies. Had no problems eating them though. I drank 5 glasses of wine on Saturday night at party with past co-workers. I know that wasn't smart. Also cals are way up to about 1400 day. Is this acceptable? What are mushies? Could I have damaged anything? I don't think so, and feel good. What should one be consuming 2 weeks after surgery? As far as streghting my pouch shouldn't I have thrown up because of over stuffing? Did I over stuff? Any advice please Bearbelly

Pre-Op Diet for everyone?
Aria3 replied to littlerlou's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor ordered me to be on a 3 week pre-op diet. This Friday, my surgery day, will mark the end of my 3 weeks. My Daily Menu: Breakfast: Protein shake Lunch: Protein Shake Snack: 1/2 cup Chobani Plain Greek Yogurt (I add a packet of Stevia In the Raw to sweeten it up.) Dinner: 1 cup of broth based Soup Water: 64 ounces/day I was miserable the first week of my diet but my body has adjusted to it so I'm a happy camper. I've lost a total of 21 pounds. -
Pre-Op Diet for everyone?
mmm3 replied to littlerlou's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am on my 2nd day of pre-op diet. I had a ready made protein drink yesterday- Myoplex EAS vanilla, it was great and filling. Then some chili for dinner. Today was a homemade protein shake, a ready made shake, condensed soup, light yogurt, and a cup of broth. I haven't snapped and bludgeoned anyone with my blender yet. I do recommend vanilla based protein drinks because they can be mixed with more things. Try adding instant coffee for a iced mocha version, diet chocolate syrup, bananas, a liitle strawberry yogurt, some peanut butter and chocolate syrup or orange yogurt and make an orange cream flavor. Get creative, but try to stay low-cal. I'm thinking about this time as a cleanse. Good luck on all pre-op diets! -
Begging for you help!, Please help
Melissannde replied to Suznty's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The idea of eating till full just doesn't work for me and my band. I could eat alot more than I should if I was to eat till I was full. I measure out 3oz of Protein and 1/2 cup of veggies. I eat that and usually that satisfies me. IF I'm still hungry in 20 minutes, I'm allowed more veggies. My nurses say eating only 1/2 a cup of food is more for a RNY patient, that a band patient is expected to eat up to a cup of food. Of course this will vary from person to person, but I wouldn't stress if you aren't satisfied on 1/4 or 1/2 cup. Try going to 3/4 or 1 cup and see if that will hold you for 3 to 4 hours. Are you waiting at least 30 minutes after eating to start drinking? If you are, try extending it to 1 hour to see if that will help. Another strategy.. if you're getting hungry 2 hours after eating.. start pushing fluids. Drink Water and other very low calorie drinks (I try to keep it to 10 calories/16 oz or less). if pushing fluids isn't doing the trick.. have a high protein/low calorie snack. Wasa crisp & light with light laughing cow, carbmaster (kroger brand) yogurt, 1/2 an apple and a weight watcher's string cheese stick, things of that nature. Sometimes when I'm just a little bit hungry between meals, taking my dogs on a walk will push the hunger back a bit. Keep trying different things until you find what works for you. And you might just need a tiny bit more fill. I've gotten as little as .2 ( point 2) cc's and it has made a difference. I know others who get point 1 (.1cc). Best of luck to you. -

Scared To Gain Before First Fill!
kmt1973 replied to kmt1973's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Cib w skim milk has about the same as a protein drink. My doc wants me to drink about 2 a day w yogurts, cream soups w skim milk, sf puddings. I guess I just have so many people knowing and watching to see how I do w this that I'm afraid to not lose. Plus in all honesty, I am not hungry. Thanks B52 that was encouraging. -
2nd fill..most things get stuck!
Padanelle replied to Agnes's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Agnes, Missed seeing your posts. Sorry to hear you are getting stuck with certain foods. I have much more restriction after having my 2nd fill, and have to be careful that the food is moist, and remember to chew more carefully, small bites, etc (something I am still working on learning). Prior to my 2nd fill I had no problems eating anything. Now, I even get stuck with tilapia. And chicken is a problem unless it has a sauce. I'm a big fan of Greek yogurt and add different seasonings to it, which I then use to dip the meat/fish in before eating. If adding more moisture (mayo, sauce, etc) to your food doesn't help, you probably should have a little taken out. Good luck, Joan -
Okay had a Greek yogurt this morning and went down well except tries to et last bite in too early and it hurt. As for my lunch which I am working on still it's protein shake it somewhat hurts going down like I feel a little pain in my tummy and burping a little is that normal?

I ate a lot of cottage cheese, mashed potatoes (some surgeons disallow potatoes), yogurt, pudding, somewhat liquidy Cream of Wheat, etc. You can also eat a variety of mushed tubers and squash, creamy soups, and the like

I'd be sick of the taste too. What kind of Protein shakes are you doing - the prepackaged ones? Have you yet tried the kind you make in your blender with diet milk, fruit, yogurt, and Protein powder? Those are super and taste more like real smoothies.

Healthy traveling snacks
BetsyB replied to samomom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Labrada Rock 'n Roll nutty peanut bars are good--and pack a good Protein punch (20 g/bar, I think; I can only eat half a bar at a time) Nuts are a good choice--low carb, though more of a fat than a protein I think you'll probably find it pretty easy to find "safe" Snacks on the go---I'd pack a pouch of PURE unflavored protein to stir into things like yogurt, which you can pick up in any concession place or corner store. -

I can't think of anything else at the moment. -
Questions...liquids to mushies....help!
Wheetsin replied to Julie88's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The only way I could see fish eing a mushy would be a really wet tuna salad. That had been worked up one side and down the other with a fork. Unless you're partial to pureed fish. Ack! Since the food caused you some discomfort, maybe try thick liquids nd soft mushies for a few days. Cream of X Soups, yogurt, tofu (esp. silken tofu), hummus, pudding, etc. This gives you more to work on than liquids, without having to go straight to mushies. I think I did 4 days of thick liquids before moving to things like mashed potatoes, cottage cheese, etc. You could have eaten too much, and you could have eaten too fast, and you could have eaten the food without chewing adequately, and... (on and on). Just remember to take it easy. When I hit mushies it was one small baby spoon bite every 5 minutes or so. I wanted to wait that long to make sure everything felt ok. Did your surgeon provide you with a graduated meal plan - what to eat for how long, and sample foods that fall into the classification? -
What Do You Mix Unjury Into?
smbonier replied to indacrucible's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As I type, I am having tomato Soup with unjury powder in it. I have also mixed it into yogurt too. One thing I like in the morning is a cup of milk, a container of yogurt, and a scoop of Unjury blended together. It's a nice smoothie! I am only a week post-op so I am still only on liquids (nothing thicker than yogurt). -
That? That's the sound of my full signal. Except it isn't. I'm 6 days post op and although I do feel pressure sometimes, it's usually just because I'm gulping and not sipping on my Water. I've been staying hydrated; lots of fluids and I'm feeling good. However, tonight, I'm trying to add some yogurt into my diet (I'm allowed 2-4 Tbls. of it). I ate the whole container. Now, who could blame me? I've loved key lime all my life, and Greek yougurt was a new one for me, and it was so delicious, and....yeah. Gone. The package says it contains 6oz. of yogurt. By my calculations, that's about 3 times what I should have had. But the sleeve was ok with this. No foaming, no bubbling, not even a tiny little burp to let me know that capacity had been reached. And I ate it slowly, about 30-40 minutes. Right now, between my confusion and guilt of my transgression, I'm just going to concentrate on sticking to my diet. Meeting with the dietician tomorrow, probably will have to confess. But does this have ominous implications? Did my stomach really get smaller, or did they just harvest one of my kidneys? I guess I'll just have to see. I suppose I could have made a worse choice.

I had the gastric sleeve on 10/16. My doctor wants his patients to do 3 weeks liquids, 3 weeks soft food, then starting week 7 is normal food. I am 5 days from soft food stage. I however have been struggling to get my protein in because I can't do the protein shakes or powder. I have seriously tried every kind every which way and still have issues. I know some people get to start the soft foods at 2 weeks. If I started early with lunch meat, tuna, retried beans, would that be OK or would it be a big no no. My doc wants me to get 65 grams of protein and its hard to do when I can't do the protein shakes and powder. Right now I'm eating yogurt too try to get some in. The doc approved yogurt, pudding, cream soups on the full liquid diet. Any advice would be appreciated. Sent from my SM-G960U using BariatricPal mobile app

Scooby_Who replied to Missy05.29.12's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
PS - I also have had some drinkable Organic Valley LF vanilla yogurt. My instructions say "any thin liquid you could drink with a straw, but don't use a straw - sit up to drink"
