I was wondering if any who has the lap band has pain at the port site? I'm the process of having a revision with the gastric bypass because I plateaued about 7years ago and there a lot of issues with it like acid reflux, getting food stuck and then vomiting and having port pain too. I had the band since 2009 . Sent from my SM-G930P using BariatricPal mobile app

6lbs away from knowing I made it...
Brotherorc replied to TooBIG.net's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I know where you are at. Just keep doing what you are doing. Try not to focus on the numbers. I am having a revision from sleev to RNY. I got down when I got to 245 last time and gave up. This time I am going to focus on my eating not the scale (I hope I can do that). Good luck. Keep going HW 225 SW 221 CW 305 GW 200 RNY 3/7/18 -
very slow digestive system...has anyone else experienced complications from this
WASaBubbleButt replied to Rteest's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
When I was banded I knew that being banded was hard but I thought that meant hard to lose weight, more effort required. Not so, banding is hard because of what folks are writing here. The fills, unfills, restriction problems, gas, constipation, pain, esophageal spasms, reflux, pain, all of it. THAT is what is hard about the band. I realized that I learned to accept this as a way of life, it is what it is. Then things got worse in a hurry and with an unfilled band I was on liquids for 4 months. That's when I had enough and revised to a sleeve. I guess my point here is that if you can't get these problems resolved you really need to consider removing the band or getting a revision. I have a sleeve now and a sleeve is like a band that actually works without all the risks and complications. NO STOMA! Just a tiny little stomach. I waited too long and now I have esophageal damage. Don't make the same mistake I did. Don't sit on this, get something done. -
I go in next Friday for a revision. AND mine, they say, is just slightly tilted! But just that slight tilt has given them problems with every fill I have had except the first one. I can't even imagine what one that was totally sideways would be like. Good luck to you! They say it's an easy fix but dang...surgery is surgery to me! ~A

Hey! I got my date too! June 17. It's a Wednesday, so barring complications, I should be out by Friday or Saturday. I'm a revision from band to RNY, doc says he does his in one shot most of the time. I hope I'm one of those times. Then I got hubby for the weekend, yeah! I CANT WAIT!!!!!!

Has anyone dealt with Health Alliance for a revision. Some yrs ago I had BCBSIL and they didn’t even want to cover my hernia repair let alone the revision. So here I am three yrs later trying it again. The only difference is this i Sudan remains requires you to meet all requirements plus have a complication. I’m just nervous of trying it again to be let down and still be in pain.

I got approved today from Cigna :-)

Congrats! I had Cigna too but it was a little harder for me to get approved since I had a revision. You will love the sleeve! I am so happy for you! -
Did your surgeon take out the band first and then wait?
PaPaBob replied to Glendaaus's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am having my LAPBAND removed and my revision to a sleeve done next Wednesday Aug. 17th. Band installed July 2009 but never achieved any restriction for two years. Have lost 83 lbs but just thru dieting and behavioral modification. So, the sleeve will have to continue my WL in the future. PreAdmission testing all done and I am good to go for the surgery. -

Glendaaus replied to Glendaaus's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Thanks guys. I have not had any Fluid in my band for about 2.5 years. Mine is also just sitting there - although I still have pretty good restriction and can still vomit somedays - when other days I could eat a horse!!! I do have very low grade pain in my port area. A surgeon that I spoke to on the phone said it could be the beginning of corrosion, but could not tell. I had a barium swallow a week and from what the doctor could see - all looked well. I am booked for an endoscopy as well. I have an appointment on 7 September here in Canada, but if it is going to take too long I may well go to Mexico to have the revision done. I was asking because I have a feeling that here they will send me home to heal before have the sleeve - but I won't know until my first appointment. I have just ready so many different stories. Again thanks Glenda -
Lap Band To Sleeve Questions
lady lisa replied to teshadb's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can tell you that it normally has to be found medically necessary or a serious problem with the band. Not just the fact that you may not have lost enough weight. Just know that it is very hard to find anyone to accept Humana for weight loss surgery and especially for a revision, if they cover revisions at all. And yes, any good program is also going to make you go through their requirements the same as any new patient, unless you are considering using the same surgeon. -
Lap Band To Sleeve Questions
CamarilloCA replied to teshadb's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The cost of revision surgery here in the states can vary, but I would say that the typical cost is around $18,000, which includes surgeon's fee, anesthesia, and a one-night hospital stay, but all that is negotiated really with the doctor that you end up going with. Many people go to Mexico, where there are reputable doctors and decent hospitals and the cost is much lower. Do a search for "cost" at the main forum, and I'm sure you'll find lots of discussions about price. There is even a forum for people who had their surgery in Mexico. Here is my thread on my cost: http://www.verticals...__fromsearch__1 Here is another thread I found: http://www.verticals...__1#entry358683 I'm sure you can find others as well by doing a search for "bill" or "price" or "cost." -
Lap Band To Sleeve Questions
CamarilloCA replied to teshadb's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was in the same boat as you not long ago as many others are here. Be sure to check out the lap band to sleeve revision forum and insurance forum as both are helpful. I too had the lap band put in in 2008 (see "My Story" on my Profile Page). I just had revision surgery eight weeks ago to the sleeve. I have Kaiser, and I didn't have to go through classes for the revision, and they covered everything. I had self-paid for the lap band, but I would have qualified through Kaiser back in 2008 if I had wanted to wait for six months while I took the classes. (Classes were once a week for six months in Los Angeles back then.) I was impatient and ended up self paying for the band. I would make an appointment with your Primary Care Provider and ask him/her to refer you to the barriatric program. I think just having the lap band in makes you qualify for having it out at the least and having revision surgery if you want it. I wouldn't think you have to qualify again. At the very minimum, you'll probably have to have an Upper G.I. so that they can see where the band is and what it is doing. You'll also have some blood tests, etc., prior to surgery and possibly an endoscopy. -
Lap Band To Sleeve Questions
trish151 replied to teshadb's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree that it probably has a lot to do with your insurance. For my band, I had to be on a 3 month medically supervised weight loss program (that was a joke), I had to have a psych eval (which was a joke) and EKG. For my revision, I actually went in for an appointment to get a fill because I was not getting full off of my cup size portion. When I went in they found that my esophogus had dilated. They took 1 cc out of my band and sent me home with not much information. I called the surgeon's office and set up an appointment with him. He sent me for an upper GI and found that my band had slipped. After that, it took them a week to submit the paperwork to the insurance company. It was approved in two days and my surgery date was set for May 30. The day of surgery, they made me take a pregnancy test, drew blood, and did an EKG and took me straight to surgery. I am so thankful I did not have to go through all of the hoops again. I'm 3 days out and am feeling much better. -
Almost surgery time
1959JimmyJames replied to amandaseiders's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am 9 weeks post-op. Just had my 2 month follow-up exam today. My blood pressure is normal and I am down 38 lbs. I am on a normal diet now and that is anything that I want to eat. I follow the nutrition plan but I don't substitute anything for flavor. I use real butter and I drink whole milk. I do use sugar substitute for ice tea and kool-aid. I haven't exercised at all yet. I have a back problem that I am recovering from. I just walk around the house and help out with the kids. I guess that is a workout, chasing after 4 little kids. On surgery day I was nervous and anxious. I am a band to sleeve revision. The surgery took about 4 hours. I felt miserable when I woke up in recovery. It was the anesthesia. After it wore off I started feeling the pain from surgery. I was hooked up to a morphine pump and I had the control in my hand so I used it alot. Whenever I saw it lit up, I would drug myself. You will be up and walking by dinner time on surgery day. They won't let you lay there. There is a danger of blood clots. I didn't have a urine catheter when I woke up. It was removed right after surgery. It was my option, so the doctor went along with it. Walking around after surgery helped me with going to the bathroom also. I was in the hospital 2 days. You have to pass a swallow test before they release you. Just making sure there are no leaks. You'll have liquid pain killer at home. Keep it handy and after about the 5th day you will be feeling pretty good. Some people feel great right away. My pain lingered for a while. My wife took care of me through this whole thing. She is a great woman. I think the main thing is to have someone around to help you the first week. And if that person loves you then that is all the better because you are going to be an inconvienence for a few days. Good luck to you and let us know how you do. -
VSG - 5-year result study
StacyS replied to Can'tweight's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Very interesting. Thank you for sharing. I'm not too thrilled about the number of patients that had to revise to the RNY or the amount of reflux... but again, we're only talking about 26 patients. -
Has anyone had Plastic Surgery on their Arms?
codamom replied to "with the band"'s topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
I had my arms done last November and just had the revision done in June. I love the difference! I hated the way they were always swinging back and forth when I was riding in the car. It drove me nuts!!! Now they stay where they are supposed to be. -
My insurance company has "revision" guidelines for WLS as a completely separate benefit so that may be something to look in to.

Hi, I got my approval for revision to the sleeve today from my doctor's office. I am going from RNY to sleeve. I had my bypass 10 yrs ago. The pouch stretched about 80% and of course my weight came back. I have health restrictions due to severe allergies to alot of drugs that are common pills for high blood pressure. When I got my bypass, they took my gall bladder and repaired a huge hiatal hernia at the same time. I did not have discomfort whatsoever. Mine was open incision, but I suppose if you get laproscopic surgery the healing won't be too bad. I remember my drain tube for the gall bladder surgery part took longer to heal. Post op, I felt soooo much better--I had severe anemia 3 mos prior to surgery that the bypass saved me. Keep us posted--you will be in good care--try not to worry! rsr53 I got my approval letter in the mail yesterday for my revision. I will have the band to VSG and gall bladder surgery at the same time. I know several here have also had that surgery and would appreciate any advice you have. I am a little nervous about surgery but know that is normal. When I get really nervous I say to myself," you are going to have surgery no matter what because the gall bladder has to come out. this is just a little more." Seems to work a little. Is there a great deal more pain associated with gall bladder removal? Cathy

I also had my gall bladder removed and a hiatal hernia repaired at the same time I had my revision done. It was a piece of cake - sorry - I mean it went as smooth as a cup of low-fat yogurt - ha! It was really no worse at all than when I had my band done. I'm sure you'll do great. Congrats on your surgery date!

I was a revision from band. We didn't do an endoscopy pre-op, but found that I also had a hernia while the doc was doing the VSG. He fixed it during the surgery with no problem. This is pretty common and not normally an issue. Best of luck!

DR> ACEVES: SERIOUSLY, NOW
LilMissDiva Irene replied to crosswind's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi Crosswind! I personally have not once seen a negative feedback on Dr. Aceves. I didn't see the post on the mystery man who claimed he nearly died. I won't say if it is true or not. I'm no one to judge, but I would like you to keep in mind that there is a lot of responsibility on the patient just as much as the surgeon. You have to wonder why he is such an anomaly that he nearly died. Did he follow the post op plan as directed? Did he maybe eat something he shouldn't have and too early out? Was he getting all of his fluids and supplements? Who knows... We have to remember that no one is perfect. It stands to reason that even Dr. Aceves could have a few complications here and there, I just personally have never seen any. Doesn't mean they aren't there. I certainly didn't have any complications out of norm. I did have nausea in the hospital and I also needed a catheter at one point. I also had a hard time swallowing from the pain, which as it was explained to me was, since I was a revision from the Lap Band it was pretty common. I absolutely and highly recommend Dr. A. His compassion, bedside manner and his technique saved my life. I'm going for a post op next weekend and I will be very happy to see him and his team!!! -
Hi I'm Kim. Had a lap band back in 05 without much success. Had a revision to a gastric bypass this past Tuesday and right now I'm experiencing some pain and discomfort. Kinda in a what in the heck did I do to myself place right now. Any suggestions, tips, words of encouragement would be greatly appreciated. Looking forward to meeting new people who are in the same boat.

Hi everyone. My name is Margaret. I am a mother, wife, friend, employee advocate, and a lover of dogs. I live with my husband and Chug (Chihuahua/pug) in Colorado. I just had my revision surgery on June 30th from lap band to sleeve. I am at Bariatric Stage IV - eating pureed foods and drinking Protein drinks. I am limited to five foods: egg whites, plain yogurt, refried Beans, cottage cheese and pudding. I am also taking liquid Vitamins and getting B-12 monthly injections. My daily goals are to continue to drink 64 oz of Fluid each day; eat/drink 65 grams of protein, walk 30 minutes (if not more), and continue to protect my surgery incisions and stomach by not lifting, pulling, pushing anything over 15 lbs.I am glad that the doctor limits his patients to five foods because I think it's really easy at this point to overdue it on other soft foods that may not be so healthy for you. The weight is coming off slowly which I think is good. I feel pretty good except last night, I had a side ache next to the incision where my port use to be. Other than that, I feel really good. I think this surgery was much easier than the lap band. I still get hungry and the food that my husband is eating looks tempting. However, I try to remind myself that this is just head hunger. I don't think I am really hungry. I am no longer a coffee drinker since we were told to stop drinking it. I was totally addicted to coffee mostly because of the liquid creamers. I feel so much better and I no longer have to have coffee first thing in the morning I am just beginning this journey and I am still learning to listen to my body. I am not in a support group at this time but I would love to connect with others who are on a similar journey.
